The video I'm perhaps the most proud of finally passed 10 000 views on Youtube. It feels so bloody great when the work you appreciate the most also gets the recognition you yourself believe it to deserve, so I just want to thank everyone for your continued support.

Coincidentally, I'm currently working on a video that follows the same retrospective type structure. Since the Frictional Games video was some of the most fun I had working on this channel, I figured I would finally just try to make more videos in the same style. So next up is a video on Alan Wake 1 and 2. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as this one!

I started watching X-Files a couple of months ago and finally finished the whole show, plus the movies and revival. Jesus. I started looking at fanfic but am totally intimidated by HOW MUCH OF IT there is. Like. 30 years worth of it? Where do I even start? Do I read old stuff or new stuff? Are there any authors that have been writing since the 90’s? Who’s stuff should I be reading? What should I be reading? There are so many different kinds! (Okay, but not fluff, because The Ick.) (and only the shippy stuff because I am not a monster.) Where does one even start in this fandom?

Thanks for coming here, Anon-- I'll do my best~. ;)))

TLDR: If you want to read the classics-- the multi-chapter beasts hailed across The X-Files fandom-- I'd go to @lilydalexf's page and sort through her pinned Masterpost of recs; if you want my personal favorites, I've got my own complied Masterlist pinned, as well. If you want author suggestions, I listed a few below (but not all-- even of my personal favorites.) Older fics have a more "walled-off" approach to Scully and an edgier, distant approach to Mulder; newer fics have a more open approach to their exchange and dynamic. I prefer the latter, but that's likely because I was able to watch the show as a whole rather than episode by episode with a lot of guesswork in-between.

It's hard to pinpoint where to recommend you since I don't know your preferences; but here's a very loose attempt to do so:

I'm more of a short fic reader, but I'd recommend @melforbes, @slippinmickeys, @cecilysass, and @wexleresque for long chapters; @teethnbone, @leiascully, @aloysiavirgata, @enigmaticdrblockhead, @dreamingofscully, and @sarie-fairy for "atmospheric" writing; @baronessblixen, @welsharcher, @agent-troi, @television-overload, @invidiosa, @swinging-stars-from-satellites, @thescullyphile, @msrafterdark, and @edierone for well-balanced fluff/angst/humor/comfort fic/etc.; @o6666666, @ghostbustermelanieking, @mappingthexfiles/Apostrophic, and Lapsed_Scholar for their wonderful shorts (but especially Lapsed's Requiem AU compilations); @settle-down-frohike, @suitablyaggrieved, @amplifyme, @wtfmulder, @freckleslikestars, @lyndsaybones, @numinousmysteries, and Jenna Tooms/misslucyjane for their focus on Mulder and Scully as a "mature"-- for lack of a better word-- couple (no matter when their fics are set); @xxsksxxx and @writingwell write long-chaptered casefiles (my writingwell fic recs here might help?-- sorry for the codes, I was rushing out those notes); and if you want the authors everyone recommends, then @mashnotesofthemythopoeic/Penumbra (Masterlist) and prufrock’s love/plenilune (@lilydalexf links/descriptions here) are two of the many that fit the bill.

Other fic recs you might be interested in: @cecilysass's write more of these and Milagro recs, @enigmaticxbee mytharc and Scully family recs, @pennyserenade's reading recs, @two-microscopes shorter fic rec list, @nachosncheezies's slightly psychic Scully recs (describes three of the big x-files fics), etc. You want beautifully short poeticesque ficlets written and recced by @leiascully? Boom. You want Deadalive fic reccs? Kachow. You want opinions from the OGs? The aforementioned aloysiavirgata, amplifyme, baronessblixen, leiascully, suitablyaggrieved, cecilysass, settle-down-frohike, dreamingofscully, msrafterdark, as well as @iconicscullyoutfits and @myassbrokethefall (who write amazing meta, btw.)

Are you interested in AUs that write in Gillian Anderson's pregnancy? That have a storyline sans baby all together? That stick to canon all the way through the Revival? That stick to canon mostly, except for a bit of branching off here and there? Multiple Monday fics? Post Pine Bluff Variant processing? Mulder or Scully PTSD or panic attacks or hurt comfort? The many different flavors of Mulder's abduction or return? Casefiles (admittedly I stink at those)? My own fics (also in my pinned masterpost)? An author whose style you're interested in but would like a description of their work before making a long-term commitment? Lemme know~! :DDDD

Idea for a custom story:

Daniel is going though a series of increasingly psychedelic and/or gruesome dungeons, solving dangerous puzzles and occasionally hiding from the Gatherers, in a fashion similar to Penumbra: Requiem. In case of death (and you are required to die in couple of places to progress) instead of normal death hint, the player is treated to a cutscene of Daniel being tortured by a Gatherer, then being left alone by it, mysteriosly healing, and continuing.

In the end of the custom story... Daniel is saved by Alexander. It is revealed that the story is set after the "bad" ending of the original game. After Daniel was consumed by Shadow, it wanted to torture him for eternity... but just blant torture resulted in Daniel losing his mind very quickly. Then Shadow resorted to wiping Daniel's memory (because it could, okay?), and trapping his mind inside a hallucination of infinite maze filled with dungeons and Gatherers.

Meanwhile, Alexander gets to his home world... only to discover it destroyed by Shadow and his love dead (keeping in line with Rebirth canon). Losing all hope, Alexander couldn't think of anything better to do than to get one last revenge at Shadow by rescuing Daniel from it. Using the technology and vitae scavenged from his world's ruins, after years of work, Alex manages to tear Daniel out of the Shadow and bringing him to his world.

The story ends with Daniel and Alexander, both being tainted and pursued by Shadow now, committing suicide to escape it. Forgiving each other, feeling like victors, and together.

Would you play such a custom story if I were to make it?

UM ABSOLUTELY!!! That sounds INCREDIBLE dude you've really put a lot of thought into it! Very solid story and take on the Alexander ending, I would love to see this in action!

🛩 Dream Trip: I don't have one of those. or, rather, what would make a trip a dream for me is not necessarily the destination but rather the fine-tuned details -- what kind of transportation is being taken, what kind of place I'm staying in, the length of time, etc. I've been on trips I would have otherwise loved but spent the entire time stressed out bc the details were overlooked or just not tuned to my comfort, and I've been to otherwise-unremarkable locales that I really enjoyed bc the details were well planned.

The Revenant gathers ash into its stately hand. Pungent with death is the forest, unspooling from the planet's virginal secrecy like a gossamer shrine, threading its untread wings for the penumbra, the body, the face of the Ren, to christen them. His knee is porous upon the silt, chaste with black, a shadow and a garb.

Ren, alone, opens his mouth to the dead — the stillness — what of his mouth is yet untamed by the creed. He tastes her, here, somewhere; chooser of the slain; he tastes the sweat and bone of something coming to be.

It isn't birth. It isn't death. Ren knows the difference. Many times, he has stood vigil over those to whom he has bestowed purpose anew, and felt their shuddering.

His nights are endless, overdrawing the day, because the moon's awning isn't enough, so he makes the eternal twilight his ceiling, his cave. When did her storm come in? He doesn't know. Can't afford to.

When Bruce works — he always works — she sits beside him. Her ghost even brings the ghost of a chair. He hangs his head, cranes it, he's got aches in his neck where there shouldn't be; she floats.

He deals with it with silence.

It is an exploration-based survival horror game that takes place from a first-person perspective.
