Enshittification at it once again!
Every once in a while when my mom goes to the store, she’ll bring something home for me. Bless her sweet lil Midwestern heart, she tries to get me things that she guesses I need or might want and it’s a hit or miss. I’m just not a conventional dresser except when I’m at work. These white t shirts are new tho and I thought I didn’t like the design but it turns out if I kinda do. They were free, the best price out there ;).
Tumblr media
Everyone who is pointing it out is so right that this is plaguing the (fast) fashion industry. This shirt and it’s clone are decent quality that I can tell at the moment, but the green corduroy pants that she bought?? I’ve never in my life felt fabric that felt like it was trying it’s hardest to mimic fabric. She brought me these pants right as I was waking up, and through my sleepy eyes I could tell the quality was so garbage. Out of habit, I checked the crotch to see how the inside of the fabric looked… and I can swear by my left pinky that good corduroy SHOULD NOT BE MILDLY SEE THROUGH TO A N Y DEGREE, especially when it comes to pants.
Fabric? Shit quality. Shit quality = harder to repair = meant to be replaced faster = more money spent.
I always check the stitching in the crotch. Standard stitch instead of a flat seam on shitty fabric? Strike 2. Using machine needles that are too big on said shitty fabric on the booty/crotch? Strike two. I only hand sew to make sure I don’t mess up or am able to correct any mistake and get the absolute best result I can but when I tell you that I almost thought I was going crazy when I saw those holes with my bare eyes and no glasses???? 😭😭 y’all.
I tried them on once before folding them back up and handing them back to her. Enshittification is so real and if it hasn’t reached an area of clothing production oh boy oh golly it eventually will, and I’m not sure what is as consumers will do once it has a death grip on every single thing.

corporations cannot act with impunity;
workers are the true shareholders & must hold themselves accountable, for genocide, ecocide & systemic abuses;
eject the CEOs, managers, HR that uphold the fascist hierarchy;
individuals should not be held hostage by the reliance of income for basic necessities;
people-over-profit can avert the destruction of our modern civilization & a habitable planet;
unionize, whistle-blow, create mutual aid networks; protest, fight;
make it untenable; make it impossible for business as usual

My Ongoing Chill Time Off Tumblr + Hope For Future Organizing
I participated in the poorly planned tumblr strike. Which made me very happy! I like to see users starting to become more disillusioned to the site. And during my break it got me thinking I don’t really like tumblr as an app that much as is. And I’ve experienced a lot of Harrassment, discouragement, and abuse while just trying to speak my mind and it’s very unpleasant for me and tumblr has done nothing to ease that pain. And though I’m not planning on deleting my account anytime soon just yet I think I’m gonna become more serious in becoming less active and keep and open mind to deletion. Also if organizers from the strike I participated in want my help for anything I’ll try to stay as available as possible because I want to help see that strike develop into something beautiful. Until then I would like to communicate I don’t think tumblr has to be a site that’s for profit and collects our data and targets ads at it’s user base to run. And I want to see more change from the internet landscape especially not tolerating cyberbullying which I’ve seen much of online. Until then way less use of the mobile app from me and I’ll be using software to protect myself from the vulnerabilities of dangerous adware. While reminding myself there’s always a possibility for big change to come. I committed 48 hours but I don’t mind committing more of my time in the future.

something you can help with
heyyy ik we're having fun with the VMAs but um
Tumblr media
a lot of people are going to die because Danaher Corp is preventing a life-saving tuberculosis tester from reaching impoverished communities, which have the highest risk of a) contracting and b) dying from tuberculosis in the first place. but there is something YOU (yes you) can do about it! unlike many problems, this actually can be solved over social media. it's worked before and you can be a part of it working this time. when john green (@sizzlingsandwichperfection-blog) and the nerdfighters swarmed J&Js social media when they were trying to do something similar, they ended up backing down and letting impoverished communities have access to bedaquiline, a life-saving tuberculosis drug. this is exactly what we need to do this time.
so what can you do? well first watch this video so you can get a more in-depth look at what i'm talking about. it's under 9 minutes and very informative without being too difficult to understand.
second, go ham on social media. even if you can only do one post, that is plenty. twitter, instagram, and linkedin are all great places to start
danaher corp's socials: instagram twitter linkedin
use the hashtag #peopleoverprofits
you can also call their number tomorrow, between the hours of 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (i believe). flooding them with calls is actually extremely helpful (202)-828-0850
i know that with how much tragedy we see every day on our dashes, we can become desensitized to this kind of corporate greed and the pain that it causes. we have to, because compassion fatigue is real and difficult. but PLEASE take a minute or two to call the number tomorrow, or use social media to spread the word. you can make a help make a real and tangible positive change over social media
and pls reblog this so it reaches as many people as possible

Tuberculosis is curable, yet 1.6 million people die of tuberculosis every year while Danaher grossly overcharges for diagnostic tests for the people who can least afford it.
You can help fix this issue by asking Danaher to lower the price of their Gene Xpert cartridges to $5.
highly recommend watching John Green’s new video on Danaher and Cepheid if you would like a quick and precise breakdown of the issue
and check out TB Fighters’ website for more information
and call or send an email to Danaher encouraging them to lower their prices

I don't know why I felt the urge to share this but here it is, a recent job description I've been looking at.
Tumblr media
My thoughts reading:
If you don't think money is people's motivation to work you are living under a rock because too many people are struggling to live, pay bills, afford food, afford housing for money to not be the reason to apply
What difficulties? Life is hard enough. If I have to risk my health and safety for a job (which I've already had to...twice) I'm not doing it
Same to you buddy. Does your company take ownership for the treatment of your employees? Do you provide fair pay and care for them?
Again. Back at you. Has your company absorbed the recent events in realizing that people aren't gonna put up with certain things anymore and adjusted accordingly?
Sweetheart, if people leave because the grass is greener elsewhere you may need to take better care of your lawn and realize the issues that don't make it look green.
I already make decisions every day, doesn't mean I love it
How hard and how crazy? Again, I ain't putting up with certain things
Always down to learn, what are we learning?
If I had a dime... no a penny, for every company that mentions being cool or unique in someway... I wouldn't be looking for a job right now.
Growth is constant. I'm ok with responsibilities as long as I'm paid accordingly. Don't pull the doing the work of xyz and not pay me for xyz.
Anyway. Hope everyone is doing well. Please remember to take care of yourself first and to make sure companies get the message. It's not that people don't want to work anymore, it's people don't want to work for certain companies and under certain conditions anymore. Happy Monday 🙃
