From the Award-winning composer of Sherlock and Casino Royale comes a follow up to the hugely successful, Emmy nominated Good Omens soundtrack.

Good Omens series 2 premiered on Prime Video on 28th July. The series follows the odd couple, angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tennant) in their quest to sabotage the end of the World. The six-episode sequel to the popular adaptation of the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, concerns the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) arriving without his memories to Aziraphale’s bookshop. Aziraphale and Crowley attempt to find out what happened to Gabriel, whilst hiding him from Heaven and Hell, both eager to find him.

The Soundtrack

David Arnold’s soundtrack to Good Omens was first released in 2019 to favourable reviews, with BBC Music Magazine calling it “a rollicking trip to hell and back”. Blueprint Magazine described it as “a great listen” and Sci Fi Bulletin commented on “plenty of memorable themes” to conclude that “This is another work of art from Arnold”. At times nostalgic and eerie but always varied, beautiful and full of excitement, the Good Omens 2 soundtrack showcases Arnold’s every skill from his composer arsenal. Featured here are orchestral arrangements with sprinkling of Sugar Plum Fairy pizzicato and percussion, jaunty strings and mighty choral sweeps from Crouch End Festival Chorus. Added to the mix are rock guitar riffs, and psychedelic 70s sounds and all together they create a haunting otherworldly feel, complementing the fantasy and the quirky humour of the show. The spirited Waltz of the opening theme is also present in the second series and it wonderfully sets the scene for fantastical mayhem. In series 2, this robust, evocative, and funny music entity, becomes yet again another character in the story. I'll Sort It out

Warnings: Getting hate, crying, swear word. (P.S This is a bit of a mess and the ending isn't great!)

You and Jungkook had been together since early 2019 after meeting at the BBMA’s. It was both your first times at an American awards show, so you naturally felt a little out of place. Since you spoke a little Korean (having since improved greatly) you took a chance and introduced yourself to the group.

You and Jungkook stayed in contact after finding you had a natural connection and finally began dating in 2019, after a lot of pushing from each of your friend groups.

Whilst BTS only got bigger as the days went by, your audience mainly stayed the same. Not that you minded. You enjoyed playing smaller and more intimate venues. It allowed you to be closer to the fans and interact with them more easily, plus you could do meet and greats without all the pressure of disappointing people who couldn’t get in.

Jungkook always made it his mission to go to as many of your shows as possible, and cheer you on from the side or somewhere in the back of the crowd.

Ultimately, that’s how the two of you got found out. Him being spotted at one too many of your shows when he had no other reason to be in the city.

Neither of you had wanted to stay secret anymore, so with the go ahead from BigHit, you made the relationship public.

It felt good to be able to make posts with and about your boyfriend on social media after having to hide it for so long, you felt proud and wanted to show him off because you loved him... But then the hate started. On every picture you posted, even ones that had nothing to do with Jungkook, there would be hate. Even on posts promoting your albums, they would be accusing you of using him to stay relevant, since you needed all the help you could get, according to them anyway.

God forbid Jungkook dared to talk about you or your music on one of his live streams... That would only add more fuel to the fire. He would be blissfully unaware of the hate geared towards you, th chat moving too fast for him to notice.

But you knew.

They’d recently gone from just nasty comments on your posts, to messaging you actual death threats.

When that first happened, you stopped posting pictures with Jungkook and made private all the ones already up on your page. Jungkook was confused as to why you suddenly did that but he didn’t bring it up after all, he had stopped using Instagram so maybe you were going to do the same thing?

Recently, Jungkook had been in talks to collaborate with other artists from America in preparation for the release of his first solo album, and when he bought up the idea of the two of you also doing a song together, it caused you to hit your breaking point.

‘What do you mean, no?’ He’d cornered you in his dance studio during a break. All the backing dancers had gone out so it was just the two of you left in the room.

‘It means no, Kook. It’s not a good idea.’ He stared at you like he suddenly couldn’t understand Korean, and he couldn’t stop the hurt flashing across his face. It hurt your heart to turn him down like that, but you had no other choice.

‘You can’t just say no without giving me a reason!’ he started to argue, now getting more angry than upset.

‘We can talk later.’ You mumbled, gathering your things to leave, hoping to escape this conversation until later.

‘No! You can’t just leave like that- hey!’ As soon as he reached out to grab your arm to stop you, you span round and unleashed your emotions onto him for the first time since this all started.

‘You don’t know what it’s like!’ You practically screamed in his face. Your cheeks had become red with rage and fat tears stained your face. Jungkook flinched at your sudden emotional state and went quiet, his anger drifting away into confusion as you continued.

‘-To constantly have people telling me I’m not good enough, and I’m just using you to stay relevant! It’s going to be ten times worse if we do a song together! Don’t you see!?’ You span round and cried into your hands, embarrassed that he was seeing you like this.

‘Baby... I-I had no idea...’ How could he not have known something was wrong. He felt so stupid that he’d apparently been blind to this whole situation. Just then, a thought struck him.

‘Is this why you made all those pictures of us private a while ago?’ You nodded without turning round and sniffled. You heard him curse under his breath and suddenly his arms were round you, cradling you from behind.

‘Why didn’t you say something sooner?’ He spoke against the skin of your neck.

‘I didn’t want to put you in that position.’ You shook your head and tried to calm your sobs.

‘Hey, don’t talk like that.’ He circled round to stand in front of you, gently sliding his hands up your neck to cup your face.

‘You will always be my top priority, ok?’ You nodded sadly and subconsciously reached up to grasp onto his forearms, more to comfort yourself than anything.

‘please don’t cry. I’ll sort it all out.’ He wiped your tears with the pads of his thumbs and pulled you into a hug, flush against his chest.

‘We’re also definitely doing that song together, by the way.’ You pulled back sharply, almost in disbelief.

‘Have you not been listening to anything I said!?’

‘And I told you I’d sort it! Please... Just trust me on this.’ He pleaded, almost begging you to trust him with his eyes. You sighed deeply and rubbed at your sore eyes.

‘Ok... I trust you.’

What Jungkook meant by sort it, was to basically threaten legal action to everyone who sent you death threats or tried to defame you, in the form of a very stern letter released through BigHit.

Hello.

First of all I want to say that this letter isn’t targeted towards the fans who have shown nothing but support for me and Y/N. Please know we both appreciate you all and are grateful for everything you do for us.

This letter is in direct response to the people who think it’s appropriate to send Y/N death threats and try to defame her, by claiming she’s using me for fame. Unbeknownst to me, this has been going on for a long time, which has caused Y/N a great deal of mental stress.

Death threats aren’t something we take lightly.

Np, Y/N isn’t using me for fame.

No, we aren’t breaking up.

Yes we are going to continue making public appearances together, and YES, we will be taking legal action.

We already have a large number of names and accounts which have been handed over to our lawyers. If the threats and accusations don’t stop immediately, then we have no problem taking whatever legal action is necessary.

In future, please understand that we don’t have to share out lives with you. We share what we are comfortable with being public, but when you act like this? It only makes us want to close off completely.

I hope my words have made you realise that actions and words can have consequences.

The statement Jungkook released caused a real storm online. Most real ARMY immediately rallied around you to create a support network and the threats mainly stopped. You guessed that most of them were probably just teenagers, scared of being caught out.

The song you and Jungkook released together was a massive hit too. It was basically a big fuck you to all the haters and you couldn’t wait to perform it live.

When clueless, silence is golden

I was just browsing around while looking for something completely different and stumbled upon this quintessential Mordorian POV:

Disclosing a username is crass and I usually never do this, unless really necessary and relevant. So spare me the ad hominem argument you usually fumble around with, Disgruntled Tumblrettes. Yet, for all its intellectual paucity, this is interesting dissection material, since clearly this person hasn't got the slightest idea of what she is so confidently talking about.

First scenario at play: The Tasting Alliance, 'a company no one has ever heard of', booked and paid for the suite.

Not necessarily booked, nor necessarily paid, madam. In the real business world you are so clueless about, these arrangements are seldom - if ever - monetized. It's rather all about barter.

That company no one ever heard about - except, perhaps, #silly and totally irrelevant Forbes (https://www.forbes.com/sites/joemicallef/2023/04/13/the-tasting-alliance-and-reserve-bar-are-set-to-launch-top-shelf/?sh=b45f7085f6f1) - is the parent company of the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), largely acknowledged as at least one of, if not the world's leading spirits award contest. Google is your friend, you should try it some time:

The operative info here is that this evaluation comes from the Beverage Trade Network, a professional portal for spirit dealers. Having determined this, Tasting Alliance's IG number of followers is completely irrelevant, since we are talking about two very different targets, here. Its real leverage and weight on the global market does not really need the boost of an aggressive social media presence and the kind of events it hosts are not your favorite junior hockey league or elementary school cake and bake sale.

Let's look a bit further. It takes one click to get on the Tasting Alliance's website (https://thetastingalliance.com/). Granted, not all the information you need to understand its business model is right there and I had to go dig a bit (not without some help - merci encore!) to even get a grip on how these wheels are really turning.

The way they sell themselves is sober and confident. And completely disinterested in social media impact, to be honest:

By all my estimations, The Tasting Alliance is very profitable business. Let's unpack ( for current fees, see source: https://callingallcontestants.com/contest/2023-san-francisco-world-spirits-competition/):

Considering the 500 USD fee /entry (550, in 2023) in the competition and the fact that in 2022 there were approximately 5000 entries in the Frisco spirits' competition, we have a very rough turnover estimation of 500x5000= 2.5 million USD. That figure is just for one of the spirits competitions, mind you, and does not take into account what the winners probably pay for the right to mention their medals on their bottles (I am yet to see them on the SS gin bottles, btw), nor the multiple sidekick profit (e-shop sales, consulting and/or other distribution deals, etc). So, at the end of the day, I would comfortably multiply that base by 4, assuming a similar scale for all the other events they organize, which takes the yearly turnover at around 10 million USD and keeping in mind this is very probably a conservative estimation. I also assume costs are negligible, taking into account the discretion with which major players traditionally operate on that particular niche. Real expenses are probably limited to the activity of a handful of offices, sparingly and intelligently staffed. Advertisement is probably bartered and social media, well... you just saw the effort, haven't you?

With a bit of luck, this could happen:

Sounds familiar? Of course and I bet that was S's strategy. If you imagined him doing the same exhausting booze tour every year (groping on top and seriously cringe on the sides), I think you might want to reconsider. I told you Sassenach Summer was a sandbox for more serious things to come and until now I have no reasons to change my mind. He did it for a reason and, mind you, that reason is not that the booze did or does not sell. It does. Restaurants start to feature it. Podcasts are being produced. The press starts to mention it (that recent New York Times article is evidence enough). This is not Lucky Luciano dealing in bootleg alcohol during the Prohibition and making obscene money over a fortnight. This is a serious business project that was delayed by COVID. That's all. And it takes time and patience and consistence. We know he has all those aplenty.

We also have the totally inane take on production costs for that podcast. It suddenly made me remember again my media expert past. It is with complete and educated confidence that I tell you: a potential 5K USD extra cost for renting that damn suite for the day is peanuts, even for a two-minute clip (let alone, in reality, a podcast interview, and I stand corrected if wrong), if such costs are covered by The Tasting Alliance. But my money is on a barter with The Shutters on the Beach, which would be, again, common business practice.

Second scenario: 'Shutters comped the room for free promo (...) for an actor most people haven't heard of.' You can throw timelines down my throat as many times as you wish and tell me he already stayed there several times and yell and screech, but here is what I think. Shutters didn't comp that suite for S, an actor most people haven't heard of, a decent, hard working start-up entrepreneur. If so (I doubt it), it would be logical to think Shutters comped that suite for The Tasting Alliance, which has a long documented history of partnerships with hotels that host their competitions:

So Shutters might have comped that room for a major player of the alcohol lobby world, happy that S, a returning client, picked them out of several possible options, because it was convenient. I don't believe for a second he stayed there.

This guy knows what he's doing and C's gin success completely depends and I bet will rely on that relentless networking effort. If anything, the Keepers of the Quaich recent development is only confirmation of all the above. But that's another story - very soon on this page.

IYKYK. The rest is uneducated cackle. But Mordor people were never the brightest bulbs in the fandom's chandelier, were they?

Tamsyn Muir interview about TLT in Celsius 232 (2022)

This post is a transcribe of an interview/talk made to Tamsyn Muir during the Celsius 232, a multimedia festival about fantasy, scifi and horror genres celebrated in Avilés, a city in the North of Spain. The interview was about her saga The Locked Tomb. In this interview Tamsyn Muir talked about topics such as how the trilogy turned into a tetralogy, fanfiction, her favourite cliche and translations. She also answered fandom questions from the public.

I want to share this interview and to transcribe it so everybody can enjoy it. Also, although I was in the festival, I couldn't go to this talk. So I'm glad that it was recorded because I found it interesting.

A lot of people came to the event cosplayed as Gideon, Harrow and other characters. Here is a photo with all of them!

This interview was made in July 2022, so the books discussed are mainly Gideon The Ninth and Harrow The Ninth.

In the scenario there were three people, as you can see in the video. Tamsyn Muir (center, author of The Locked Tomb), Gabriella Campbell (left, interviewer (and author of books such as Pequeños restos de magia, El día del dragón...)) and Diego García (right, interpreter). Gabriella did the questions while Diego translated everything to Tamsyn and then to the public.

Now that everything is clear, let's start!

Interviewer: Well, I'm going to start very seriously. I think that I don't need to introduce to you who Tamsyn Muir is. You also now Diego a lot. *laughs* Before anything else, I'm going to be very formal and I'll start by reading a bit of Tamsyn Muir's biography from Wikipedia. *everybody laughs* So I'll need to use my glasses.

*Gabriella, the interviewer, takes some aviator sunglasses that were on the table and she puts them on, the glasses really look like Gideon's so everybody started laughing and clapping. Tamsyn Muir nods and does a thumbs up 👍 After this joke, Gabriella takes the glasses of and puts on her regular glasses to read*

Interviewer: Tamsyn Muir is a New Zealand author of fantasy, science fiction and horror. She's been nominated for a lot of prizes and her first novel was published in 2019. I think that you may know what's its tittle... *everybody laughs* She was born in Australia in 1985 and she moved to New Zealand when she was five years old.* Now she works as a teacher in Oxford.

*in Wikipedia it says that she moved to New Zealand when she was nine months old, but in the same Wikipedia article in Spanish it says five years old. So yeah, someone can confirm which is correct? hahaha

The Deepwater Bride was published in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction in 2015, was nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Novelette, the World Fantasy Award—Short Fiction, the Eugie Award and the Shirley Jackson Award. Amazing. Then it came Gideon. It's the first book of The Locked Tomb trilogy. It was pulished in 2019. It won the third place in the Goodreads Choice Awards for best science fiction in 2019. Charles Stross describes it as: "Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted gothic palace in space!" *everybody starts clapping*

What the Wikipedia doesn't say is that this woman is her translators' terror. *everybody laughs* She does a lot of bad jokes and has a lot of memes. She also made me lose a whole week of productivity because I slept several nights at 5AM to finish a book.

My first question, which is something that I think that everybody is interested in a bit, the biggest and most important question of all... is... Who is Gideon Nav's favourite p*rn model?

Tamsyn Muir: There are so many... *everybody laughs* How can she pick?

Interviewer: There must be a favourite.

Tamsyn Muir: No, no, [she has a] special place in the heart for a lot of them. She's ready, she's waiting available.

Interviewer: Now a more serious question. I'm not saying that this wasn't a serious question. Tamsyn has talked before about this, but everybody asks what happened with this trilogy with four books. She has made to us a Douglas Adams? What happened with Nona? Why Nona?

Tamsyn Muir: Why not? It wasn't meant to be this way, I'm sorry. There were going to be three books, and it was going to be over this year. But my editor asked me: "How is Alecto going? Are you nearly finished?" And I said: "I've finished the first act." I could see his face, it was on camera. He was very sad. And he said: "Okay, that's fine. How long is the first act?". And I said that it's not that long, 140,000 words. And he said: "The first act?? How many acts are there going to be?". I said four. He said: "We can't publish that, it would kill people". So we took out the first act and that's where Nona comes from. And it is her story, it is the story of one girl and I think I'm ok with it now. I'm happy with having and extra book. It is it's own thing. Maybe I'm sorry that we don't actually get to have that very very very big book that I intended. But Alecto will be done and will not be small.

Interviewer: One thing that I found while doing an exhaustive investigation on the internet is that Tamsyn Muir has written fanfiction. I think that it can be noticed in Gideon [The Ninth] and Harrow [The Ninth], right? There's a lot of incredible details [that can be related to fanfiction]. A lot of these details are memes and other cultural references. Many have come from Tumblr and other social media, including fanfictions. All these tropes and resources are present in fanfiction, such as the cafeteria. You may recognize that the moment in the cafeteria is a common resource in classic fanfiction. Social roles inversions too. There are a lot of details like these. My question is, which is your favourite cliche?

Tamsyn Muir: I thought it couldn't get any harder after who is Gideon's favourite p*rn actor. There are so many fanfiction cliches that I love. And I think that my favourite ever, and this is very cliche of me, is probably arranged marriage. I have to say that I got to do a little bit of this when I was writing Nona. You won't find it in Nona. This is because my editor got angry at me. I stopped writing [the book] to write an alternative universe so I could prove something could happen. I only got 30,000 words into it. Not that long. And then I had to stop. But I wanted to get it and maybe it will be out there some day. Not that my editor has anything to say about it. But arranged marriage is definitely my favourite ever cliche. It's a good one.

Also, there is only one bed.

Interviewer: Another question, this is a fast one because I'm personally curious. Do you still do fan fiction secretly? And about what show, book or cultural product?

Tamsyn Muir: I don't do it anymore. I've retired. I don't have time! I would love to. Oh, what fanfic would I write? I think I would embarrass my agent-mate Martha Wells and write Murderbot fanfiction.. So that is why is good I have retired.

Interviewer: Another thing that I found in my great and exhaustive investigation is that some people found Gideon and Harrow's relationship and described it as an intimate friendship. You know where I'm going, right? Some people described it even as a relationship between sisters. *everybody laughs* So I wanted to ask Tamsyn. I don't know, but I thought, with my personal bias, that maybe there is something romantic between them.

Tamsyn Muir: I have two sisters. If I behaved the way that Gideon and Harrow do to each other with my sisters I would be arrested.

Interviewer: Talking about this, we don't see in Gideon [The Ninth] and Harrow [The Ninth] any kind of explicit erotic scenes. But I, and some people may too, see that you make repulsive things strangely sensual and sexual. I don't want to do spoilers about Harrow The Ninth, but in one scene happens a reconstruction of an arm. And I found it deeply sexual. I just wanted to know if this was done on purpose.

Tamsyn Muir: I didn't do it on purpose, but after I wrote the scene and read it back to myself I thought: "Huummmmm??". The books aren't very sexual, but for Harrow [this moment] is the closest in some ways that she gets, so you should all worry about the future.

Interviewer: Another thing that we all may be in agreement is that Tamsyn's world is really complex. I think that you need a map just to follow every character. I was really lost in the beggining, when they're in that kind of battle royale for the keys. All those houses, characters and personalities... As a reader you may feel overwhelmed. How do you work with this world? Do you have your own encyclopedia? Is everything in your head? How do you maintain coherence [throughtout the story]?

Tamsyn Muir: [I'm] Very optimistic. Specially with complicated things like in the first book, it's very important to have knowledge of who has certain keys and unlocked certain rooms. I thought that I could keep it on my head. I ended up with a very complicated Excel spreadsheet. In every single book I say to myself: "This will be the one when I write down in detail everything that's happening, everything that goes on. I will write notes for myself". And in every book I hate myself because I never do this. It is luck, it is sometimes little bits of paper all over my house. And it's definitely my copy editor, who I think must be the most exhausted person in the world.

Interviewer: Going back to the memes and the references... I remember reading Gideon [The Ninth] and Harrow [The Ninth] without problems and then starting to search through the internet. I found a lot of memes [that I didn't get on my first read]. Between this and words about anatomy that I had to search on the dictionary, I talked with David Tejera (book translator of The Locked Tomb to Spanish), who's right there on the first row. Come on, give him an applause! *everybody applauses* I looked at how he translated stuff that I didn't know how could be translated. Do you have any kind of connection with your translators? Do they ask you about a lot of stuff? Do they insult you?

Tamsyn Muir: I know I'm going to say this wrong but: Lo siento, David Tejera. I'm so sorry. All of my translators are very patient. Sometimes very confused. And David of all of them has been, I think, the most patient and not the most confused. You know, it's wonderful having close relationship with translators simply to get to see how things that are put in English translate or don't translate into different languages. I'm not a linguist. I don't speak many [languages]. So it is been wonderful getting a little bit of the languages, specially into the romance. And I always really appreciate translators who do talk to me because they don't always. And I think that, for what I heard, specially for the Spanish edition of Gideon [The Ninth], that shows the fantastic book [translation] it is. So that's all David.

Interviewer: *to the public* Do you want me to ask about the translation of a meme or do you want another question? *the public agrees to the meme question* We may be thinking about the same [meme]. I'm sorry for Diego [the translator], but I'm going to read the phrase in English, then David's translation and then I'll explain where's the difficulty. The original says: "so I'm shut in here —wallled in, really— to prevent the Nine Houses becoming none House, with left grief." The translation is: "y por eso me encierro aquí, entre cuatro paredes, para evitar que las Nueve Casas se conviertan en la Ninguna, con todo mi pesar". This has logic. When David read the original he may asked himself what was Tamsyn trying to say. None House, with left grief comes from the meme No pizza with left beef. It's and old meme from Tumblr, if I remember correctly, in which people shared photos of absurd pizza deliveries. There was one pizzeria that let you choose the ingredients that you wanted. One option was none. You could also ask for each half of the pizza with different ingredients, left and right. Somebody shared a photo of their none pizza with left beef. *while Grabriella was explaining this Tamsyn was laughing a lot* Now imagine David in this situation. It's a perfect translation, but the meme is lost. Here in Spain we couldn't get the joke if it remained. This kind of pop culture jokes are compensated with erudited references.

Tamsyn Muir: Even in Spanish it still makes me laugh! I'm sorry, I just have a very childish sense of humor. I'm so glad I can laugh at the none pizza with left beef joke in Spanish! Sorry hahaha (she didn't get that the joke wasn't really there but we'll forgive her because she was just laughing a lot 😭)

Tamsyn Muir: There is no explanation. It's so stupid. And yet, for who was saying it, he knew that nobody would get it. But he wanted to put it in it for himself, and I feel that. But I'm sorry. hahahaha

Interviewer: John does a lot of references. Is John an excuse so you can put in all the jokes that you like?

Tamsyn Muir: I have to think about this because it may be a spoiler. There are many characters who are ways of me slipping in things I like or like to say. Ianthe Tridentarius is one of them. But John has a special place in the story that perhaps you'll understand more of when Nona [The Ninth] comes out. That's a worrying sentence I just said. Perhaps you'll understand a little bit more of the jokes that John is making and why is saying them. I have an actual plot point.

Interviewer: There are just five minutes left, so we have time for one question from the public.

#1 audience question: Do you have any playlists for the characters? If you have one, share it please!

Tamsyn Muir: I can't say anything yet. I mean, I would love to see that, but...

Interviewer: I have to say that there are a lot of fan playlists. This one was quick, so one more.

#2 audience question: If Nona had a birthday cake, which would be its flavour?

Tamsyn Muir: I have to think if it's a spoiler again! Nona has no taste, so it does not matter as long as it is covered in confetti and coloured icing. It would be disgusting! Lots of colours. Icing. It doesn't matter about the cake.

Translator: *after translating* Well, we have time, so one more.

#3 audience question: I imagined God as Taika Waititi. Do you have any actors/actresses that make you think about Harrow, Gideon or Ianthe?

Tamsyn Muir: Oh, that's hard. Sometimes when I think about Harrow... I love the maori actress Erana James. But Erana James is very beautiful and I'm not sure Harrow is that beautiful.

Translator: Ok, 3 more minutes. Any more questions?

#4 audience question: I think that Gideon is a character who is really open about her sexuality. Has somebody said you anything about Gideon's openness when talking about her sexuality?

Tamsyn Muir: I don't think anyone has to thank me, because I want to thank everyone who has responded to Gideon the way I wanted her to be looked, as a butch lesbian. I just wanted to put someone in who my 17-year-old self [would like], and the way that people who responded to her is like going back in time and telling my younger self that it's ok. So thank you!

A/N: i’ve been doing instagram au’s recently, and i haven’t written these types of fics in like a year, so it feels so refreshing writing them again. btw, apologies if there’s any grammar mistakes or any typos.

‘17-‘20

For the past five years, you’ve pretty much made yourself a big name in the entertainment industry. Since your debut, critics and the people were quickly mesmerized by your talent, which later contributed to your nominations at big award ceremonies.

While filming your second project four years ago, you discovered Jack and his music. However, it wasn’t until a year later when you first met him.

Jack was starstruck the moment he saw you. He couldn’t believe that one of today’s leading actresses is a big fan of his. Around this time, he was recording a new mixtape. You still remembered the conversation that occurred, which was now an ongoing joke between you and him.

“Hi, I’m Jack,” Jack introduced himself as you came up to him to give him a hand shake.

“I know,” you replied, letting out a soft laugh.

After the interaction, you exchanged numbers, and began hanging out together.

By early 2020, you and Jack started dating. Since Jack wanted more of a private life, you both agreed to keep the relationship that way, with the exception of close family and friends. However, due to one of his songs becoming popular, it pushed him to a more mainstream audience. Although you and Jack were celebrating for reaching such achievements, unfortunately, you both knew that going out together was going to be such a conflict.

With your upcoming project being the most anticipated film of the year, and Jack releasing his new album, it was going to be quite a year for you two.

You and Jack barely had the time to see each other, and the only interactions came through the phone. You didn’t like that feeling. The feeling that you were dating your own screen just felt weird to you. The next time you were going to see him again was during the MET Gala, which happens to be the same week Jack releases his album.

By that point, you had the thought to end things with Jack. It was an upsetting thought, but both of you were booked and busy if you really think about it. You were busy with your film, which was set for a summer release, and there’s also an upcoming press tour alongside it. Meanwhile, Jack had upcoming performances left and right, traveling from France to Australia. As much as it hurts to let go of someone, you believed that now was the right time.

MET GALA ‘22, MAY 2nd, 2022

You arrived to New York City a couple of days ago, which was nothing new for you. Tonight was going to be your first MET since 2019, and your first with Jack.

At the hotel, your stylist picked out a dress from (brand choice), while you were in charge of doing your own makeup. Considering the way people were dressed last year, you’d say that your team did a great job on their research and finding a dress that represented “gilded glamour.”

Before putting on the dress, you heard a knock on the door. You opened the door to see that it was Jack. He was already red carpet ready and he wanted your opinion of his look. He showed up wearing a silky brown suit from Givenchy, a little different from the regular tuxedos that a lot of men tend to wear at the MET.

“How do I look, baby?” Jack asked you as he was fixing up his tie.

“You look amazing, Jack,” you smiled, fixing the outfit for him.

“I knew I could rely on you,” Jack said, quickly giving you a kiss on the forehead before he closed the door.

After a few hours, you arrived at the MET Gala. Your appearance was the most anticipated tonight, based on past looks. It was exciting to see what you were going to wear next. Like every award ceremony, there’s cameras flashing, people cheering from all angles, and of course, the interviews.

“Y/N LOOK OVER HERE!”

“SMILE Y/N!”

“Y/N TURN AROUND!”

“I LOVE YOU Y/N!”

Everyone was obsessed with your MET look. You were the highlight of the night, earning the title of “best-dressed” alongside other celebrities.

Following the pictures taken on the MET stairs, you went to their dinner party, where you got greeted by Jack.

You and Jack went towards the food table. The food looked quite exquisite, having a Sofia Coppola feel to it. Jack grabbed a plate and asked, “You want something to eat or drink?”

“Not at this moment,” you nodded. “Thank you, though.” Before Jack put the plate back, he asked you again, “Are you sure?”

“Yeah, I’ll eat once the MET is over.”

You weren’t upset, but rather overwhelmed. The next thing you wanted to do was to leave the dinner, and stay at the hotel, but you just couldn’t. Instead, you rushed to the bathroom, which you quickly regretted.

By the time you opened the door, there was a group of celebrities attempting to take the MET Gala picture. Instantly, all eyes were on you, “Y/n, care to join us?”

Giving them an awkward smile, you tried to fit into the frame. For the next ten seconds, everyone was fixing their outfits and thinking of a pose. By the last second, one of the celebrities announced that they were taking the picture, “MET Gala ‘22, everybody say cheese!”

After the picture, you headed back to dinner where you sat in the empty seat next to Jack’s.

“Having fun?” you looked over to Jack.

“Yeah, I’m getting a little tired though. Are you tired yet?”

“Sort of,” You had a monotone voice, showing no emotion whatsoever.

“Let me take you outside for some fresh air, no?” Jack held your hand, but you refused, thinking about your private relationship with him. “Jack, we can’t. Remember?”

“Right.”

“Speaking of going out, I don’t think I want to attend that afterparty anymore.”

“That’s fine,” Jack kissed your cheek as you got out of your seat. “Do what you need to do, okay babe?”

“Okay. See you tomorrow morning.”

TUESDAY, MAY 3rd, 2022

The next morning, as you were getting ready, you received some text messages from Jack.

Jack: are you in your hotel room right now?

Jack: let’s talk

You: i’m here

You turned off your phone and continued getting ready. After doing some final touches to your makeup, you decided to order some tea for you and Jack.

"Room service. How may I help you?”

"Uhm, yeah. May I have two hot teas?"

"Which one?" You didn’t specify what kind prior, but you knew that Jack loves the hottest kind of tea.

"The hottest one. Just any of the—"

"You want black or green tea?"

"Green for both, please. Thank you. "

While you were waiting for your orders, someone knocked on the door. "It’s Jack," you thought.

You opened the door, and it was no surprise that it was him. As he walked into your room, he couldn’t resist giving you a hug. You missed that feeling, that rare feeling. You knew, however, that you and he weren’t destined to be together for this long.

"How’s my baby feeling today?" Jack asked you.

"Better than yesterday," you assured. "And by the way, I ordered some tea, which should be here any minute now."

"Very generous of you," Jack said sarcastically. He was glad to see you doing better and getting the rest that you needed after yesterday. However, it wasn’t the case for you. Instead, you felt nervous about having this talk, scared that you were going to slip up really badly.

"What if he doesn’t want to see me ever again?" you thought. The only goal here was for you and Jack to be cool as just friends.

You two walked together and found a seat at the empty table that was in the room. You relax for a few seconds, hoping that everything goes as planned. Afterwards, you began to talk to him.

"I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, but I think it’d be cool if we stayed as just friends," you began. "I feel like we’d become so distant this past year to the point where I’m just dating my own screen, you know?"

Jack got up from his seat, and you tried to question him, feeling startled that he was leaving immediately. Luckily, he opened the door and grabbed the two teas that you ordered earlier. He placed your tea on the table while he began to take a sip of his tea, "Sorry, the tea arrived. Go on, Y/n.”

You continued, "We’re literally at our prime right now, and I’m really proud of what you achieved. I truly am. I just don’t think that I’m the right person for you anymore.”

Silence, but not the awkward kind. Jack respected your decision. "I get it, our schedules can get packed like right now. Either way, I’d still be proud of you for what you've done to your fans and to my music as well. Thank yo-“

You interrupted him, "Jack, this is not a farewell."

"I still mean everything that I said earlier. I’m so glad that I met you, Y/n.”

“Thank you, and thank you for understanding where I’m coming from, Jack.”

After two years of dating, you and Jack officially broke up. It went smoothly like you planned, and you are now friends with Jack.

Things were going to be different, of course. Looking at the schedules, it was going to be a long year, starting with summer. It begins, a summer without Jack, a summer without you.

Han So-Hee in her own words.

I started writing this when I heard that Han So-Hee was rumoured to appear in Jungkook's upcoming MV for Seven. I love to explore the intersections between the world of kdrama/kfilm (which I have followed for some considerable time) with the world of music and BTS (which is a much newer love).

I haven't seen her in many roles but what I have seen convinces me she is someone who is working on her craft and constantly looking for ways to improve and deliver more for her audience.

After seeing her first in a supporting role in Abyss (2019), I've seen her with Song Kang in Nevertheless (2021) where she plays a sculpture student in a much more Bohemian world than we generally see in kdramas and then in My Name (2021) where she played a revenge seeking bad ass. She had to do a lot of physical training for the part and said that it was a habit that stayed with her.

"If I get hooked on something, I’m the type to do it no matter what anyone around me says. That’s one of the things I like about myself."

She isn't your average Korean actress. When she published photos of herself with tattoos she received a lot of public criticism in Korea but she has a clear philosophy to life which she is determined to stick to.

"I want to live youthfully while wearing, eating, and expressing what I like. As long as I don’t stray away from what’s ethical and moral, I want to live while expressing myself freely. Instead of being passive, I hope others also find their own spark and color to shine."

She loves and respects other women.

She is serious about the people in her life and she is ready to express her love and support publicly. She is close to Song Hye Kyo and they often post for each other on Instagram. When Song Hye Kyo won the Baeksang Arts Best Actress Award for The Glory this year she was quick to post her congratulations on Instagram.

The two were set to star in the The Price of Confession together, that project seems to have been shelved but their relationship is still going strong. Song Hye Kyo recently sent a coffee truck to the set of Han So Hee's latest project Gyeongseong Creature.

Isn't it nice to see women supporting each other perhaps certain parts of the fandom could take a lesson from that.

I've seen people online compare Han So-Hee to Jungkook and having read her words, I don't think they are wrong. Both are unconventional individuals living in a strictly conformist society. Both are proud of what they call their stubbornness which I actually think is more about their being determined to live an authentic life on their own terms. Both seek to express publicly the love and support they have for the important people in their life. As such I think she is a good choice as a co-star for this music video.

It won't be her first time appearing in a Kpop MV. She appeared in SHINee's video for 'Tell me what to do' in 2016......

so, i haven't really been here for a while because life happened but I found myself wondering recently, how is everything going here? from what I've seen louis looks really good and happy these days and he's joining a bunch of festivals? exciting things!

Hi there!

In terms of Louis’ trajectory— the general direction of his career— 2023 has been the best year for him ever. Including in 1D.

Louis released FITF, an album that went to Official Charts #1 in the UK, Billboard #5, and many top tens internationally.

After the 80-show world tour last year (2022), Louis then booked the biggest solo tour he’s done so far. FITFWT 2023 had 79 shows + AFHF. Louis played some of the same venues that 1D played at the height of popularity, and sold out the O2 Arena in London.

28 Clothing began selling products this year. The choice to partner with Hype Beast for the limited runs is on brand and very smart marketing. Using a separate marketing firm for 28 was also a great idea.

Louis will probably have one of the largest merch sales this year, all while keeping his prices average (for tour merch). At Matt Vines’ estimate of $38 per person on tour, he will have sold about (conservatively) $10 million in tour merch this year, not counting 28 Clothing. I estimate revenue for tour tickets to be around $14 million (assuming about 250k tickets for FITFWT 2023 at $55 per).

Even if these aren’t the biggest numbers, Louis’ cumulative achievement comes from many years of stop-and-start disruptions, much hard work and heartache, and— initially— some very hopeful, loyal, diehard fans who kept waiting for him and encouraging him.

The achievements also feel authentically won, as the biggest radio stations in the UK and USA are still blacklisting Louis from the airwaves. He might come on Jimmy Fallon and iHeart, but it’s rare to hear his music on radio— which translates to few streaming playlists. BMG UK also treats Louis like a catalogue artist and relies on fans’ word-of-mouth for promo. So for so many fans to show up for him at the concerts really means genuine interest, real love.

In addition, Louis is being nominated by some mainstream music media, like Rolling Stone UK and Billboard, for legitimate awards (Best Tour Act for RSUK, Best Music Documentary for Billboard). It reminds me of the start of his solo career in 2017-18, when Louis was up for awards like iHeart’s Breakout Solo Artist, Best UK/ Ireland solo act, and other awards, instead of simply being shut out as in 2019-22.

My opinion is that RSUK and Billboard have nominated Louis to harness the social media power of his fans and draw more attention to their awards (once again, free PR), especially since the Billboard award is fan-voted. However, attention to the awards also keeps Louis’ name in their publications.

Finally, yes!!! Festivals!

So far Louis has been booked in festivals only in Mexico, the UK, and Europe, but this is also where his audience has the highest concentration. The choice to do festivals with rock and indie acts makes sense, because Louis is already friends with many current acts (and has toured with several) and there’s potential for the audience to cross over. Listening to Faith In The Future, I would say that Louis can still go further in an indie sound. He loves his big pop choruses — bless— but he can convert them to rock, not just in instrumental arrangement but in spirit. To me, Back To You isn’t really a rock song and it doesn’t sound like a rock song no matter what, but it is fun. The festivals are a good way to test his music and go further. All around him are inspirations.

(It’s also inspirational to see people like The Snuts going out on their own label. Much food for thought.)

Also in terms of business structure, Louis and Matt Vines invested in OpenStage, a business that taps into direct-to-consumer marketing for artists via social media and texting. It’s too early to know whether this company is the “pirate” that bypasses big music labels, radio, and streaming services to sell to and connect to fans directly, or whether it will get bought out by a big PR firm or killed by competition. However, Louis has been doing independent festivals, playing at independent music venues, promoting smaller and indie artists, thinking about managing these artists and starting an indie label for years. These are early steps for Louis to establish a presence outside of traditional music industry.

Angela Bassett earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a devoted mother in the sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” So I couldn’t help but wonder while watching “Dune: Part Two” whether Rebecca Ferguson could follow a similar trajectory to awards glory.

The two roles are similar in that both women play mothers whose life partners are killed and whose children carry great power. Of course, beyond that there are significant differences. Bassett’s Queen Ramonda is thrust into leadership reluctantly after the deaths of her husband and son. Ferguson’s Lady Jessica, on the contrary, actively seeks power for herself and her child Paul (Timothee Chalamet), preying on people’s faith and fear in order to fulfill a prophecy.

But both actresses give standout performances among their films’ ensemble casts. Bassett lends emotional depth and raises the stakes of what might have been a conventional superhero sequel. Ferguson deepens her film’s narrative in a different way. We recognize her love for her son and unborn daughter, but there are subtle shades of Lady Macbeth underneath; her pure love for her family is twisted by a thirst for power. It’s through her unsettling performance that the film comments on the dangers of religious fanaticism and begins to suggest that Paul’s rise might not be as heroic as we’re first led to believe.

Clarisse Loughrey (The Independent) writes of the performances that “Chalamet and Ferguson take all that was regal and dignified about their performances, and apply to them a poisoned tip.” Brian Truitt (USA Today) adds that “Ferguson’s Lady Jessica rises to become a gripping ‘Dune’ persona, who goes from being extremely dry in the first film to an intriguingly determined figure.” Brian Tallerico (RogerEbert.com) argues that her “slippery performance” adds “flavors here that weren’t in the first outing.”

Ferguson’s career has been building for more than a decade now. She earned a Golden Globe nom for her breakthrough performance in the 2013 TV limited series “The White Queen.” A couple of years later she got a Critics Choice bid for Best Actress in an Action Movie for “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” (2015). She also received a smattering of awards attention for her role in the “Shining” sequel “Doctor Sleep” (2019) and made additional appearances in awards contenders like “Florence Foster Jenkins” (2016), “The Girl on the Train” (2016) and “The Greatest Showman” (2017), but she has yet to be nominated by a major industry peer group like SAG, Emmy, BAFTA or Oscar.

The question, of course, is whether Ferguson can survive the gauntlet of the rest of the 2024-2025 awards season, which to be honest hasn’t even really begun yet and won’t get into high gear until this summer and fall’s festivals. Still, we’ve seen early releases survive the long haul of an Oscars campaign like “Black Panther,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “Past Lives.” And the Oscar success of the first “Dune” film (six wins out of 10 nominations) indicates that awards voters will surely have this sequel on their radars. Will Ferguson also garner attention for her chilling performance?
