What if the Madrigals piled into a huge van and went to a mall?
Felix is the driver. He always brings along a bottle of water that Pepa always ends up drinking. He buys himself another one in the mall or begs Julieta for one. He likes to find new music to dance to or sheet music.
Alma sits beside Felix in the passenger seat. It's too hard on her knees to crawl into the back part of the van and she likes to be in a spot where she can see the whole family. She will usually meet an old friend for a meal or coffee, then shop with Julieta and Agustin when they get groceries. Everyone knows to meet them when the groceries are done to help load up the van because Julieta will send out a group text. This is the last thing they get done and they leave the city after.
Pepa sits behind Felix. She always forgets something and it's most often her water bottle, so she takes Felix's. She and Felix like to dance to Agustin's piano music if they see him playing in the mall. Felix will follow her around and carry her bags for her, even though she asks if he's sure he wants to do that. It makes him happy so she lets him. They'll help with the grocery shopping too.
Antonio sits beside Pepa and likes to bring along his stuffed jaguar because he isn't allowed to bring along any of his other animals. He has a system for who he spends time with and chooses a different person/group each time so that he can spend time with everyone. He always wants to visit the toy store and pet store, of course.
Julieta is on Antonio's other side and always brings along a large bag full of food, juice, water, and first aid supplies for the kids (and inevitably her husband).
Luisa sits behind Pepa. The far back seat is too tight for her to fit into and she wants to give the front bench to Antonio so he can sit with his mother. She likes to bring tea along for the ride and points out all of the farm animals in the fields.
Isabela sits beside Luisa. Isabela and Luisa usually end up hanging out together in the mall. They like to try on different clothes, check out the bookstore, and visit the gardening section.
Agustin's behind Julieta and beside Isabela. He almost always slams his finger in the door or hits his head getting into the van. Julieta and Agustin like to find a nice restaurant to have a meal together before they go shopping. Sometimes Agustin will play the mall piano for a little while.
Camilo sits in the far back seat behind Luisa. He's always got a prank or some other scheme planned for mall shenanigans. He usually drags Mirabel and/or Bruno into it. When he isn't planning schemes, he likes to visit the music store and Mirabel drags him to the craft store.
Mirabel sits beside Camilo and likes to bring one of her embroidery projects along for the long car ride. Camilo usually keeps distracting her with his plans so she doesn't get much done. She likes to stock up on her sewing supplies and likes the arts and craft store.
Bruno sits beside Mirabel and always has a huge coffee in his hand. Being outside of Casita is exhausting, never mind being in a huge mall. If he can get away from Camilo's plans, he likes to hang out with Dolores in the book store, music store, craft store, and pet store. He makes sure he's never alone in the mall.
Dolores sits beside Bruno and behind Agustin. It's usually the quietest corner of the van and she likes to watch outside the window as she listens to music through her headphones. If she isn't with Bruno, she likes to hang out with Luisa and Isabela.

I wanna do a collection of one shots about the Madrigal kids and their parents when they were all little - inspired by my hc that Isabela got herself tangled up in her vines CONSTANTLY when she was little because I need that in my life.
If any of you guys have any suggestions for chapters - like for any of the kiddos and their gifts or just funny moments within the family, let me know. I would be happy to do them :)

🧡Queen of the Skies🧡
✨Queen Pepa and King Félix✨
This is a fantasy AU "Encanto Empire"
Tumblr media
Each Madrigal has their own title.
Pepa - Queen of the Skies
Julieta - Queen of Healing
Bruno - King of Time.
As mentioned, Encanto is an empire, ruled by the Empress, Alma Madrigal.
Each of her children had their own title as King and Queens, and has their own palace.
The Madrigal triplets may have their own palaces, but each are surely connected by structure and magic.
The Empire includes a lot of other  kingdoms from other royal families, who unlike the Madrigals, practice witchcraft.
The Miracle will be the one to choose which among the Madrigal children will inherit the Empress' throne.
It's a complicated AU that has a lot of details and etc.

I've made a powerful Encanto observation.
There are 42 weeks between Félix's and Dolores' birthdays. There are 42 weeks between Julieta and Isabela's birthdays.
"First babies are less likely to be “on time” at 39 weeks, and more likely to be a little late, between 41 and 43 weeks."
Both couples had very good birthday sex and it resulted in their firstborn.

Encanto Ficlet: One Fear
Welp, horror and spooky stuff is difficult. I hope this is bearable 😭 Written for @wdtajn Week 2: Horror.
...
Bruno is straddling that fuzzy edge between slumber and wakefulness when he feels it. A squeezing sensation that undulates along his torso—starting at his hips, compressing his belly until it reaches his chest.
Tight, tight, tighter. In the dim light he chokes out a gasp and gives a jerk of his arm. The flailing limb whips up the quilt on his bed like a tent, sends the rats scattering. Suddenly, the awful pressure ceases. Going still, peaceful, Bruno soon tips back toward sleep. The last thing that catches his senses is the sharp bray of a donkey, coming from somewhere in the Encanto…
“Nngh,” Bruno groans. It’s morning. Or at least, time to get up.
He extracts himself from the tangle of blankets and rubs a palm over his face. “…Typical,” he mumbles when he prods the area around his ribs gingerly and doesn’t find the soreness he half-expects. It must’ve been some dream: some leaking vision, twisted into a nightmare. Nothing’s wrong. But he takes a handful of salt from the box beside his bed, and tosses it over his shoulder.
A rumble of his belly pushes away any further thoughts of whatever the dream was. Bruno springs up to get dressed and head downstairs.
It turns out he’s missed breakfast with the family. Casita has fallen completely silent. The kitchen and dining room are devoid their usual noises and laughter as Bruno shuffles about, making quick work of a plate of leftover ground beef and red beans over rice, with a bit of fried egg on top.
Juli must be in town already, Bruno thinks, climbing the stairs above the lifeless courtyard. He’s decided to grab a few things from his room before joining his sister and the others. Pepa might still be home, he realizes; the middle triplet had talked about having a day off.
A voice cuts through the quiet: “I thought I heard you!” Bruno sees Antonio rushing over. The boy barely gets in a hug when he pulls away with a harsh shout, as though burned. His eyes widen; Bruno watches tears form in them while Antonio stares, takes a step back, then another.
“¿T-tío Bruno? But… why? I don’t- No, no!”
“W-huh-wha—? What is it??” Bruno flaps his hands in distress. He tries to understand, to offer comfort, too, but Antonio is crying in earnest now, his small face fearful and disbelieving. With one final wail of No! Antonio runs in the direction of his mother’s bedroom.
A chill sweeps through Bruno’s gut, making him feel faintly ill for a passing second. The dream he had flickers across his mind, and he pushes down the chill, throws more salt and some sugar for good measure. He has to follow Antonio (his stomach clenches; this time from recalling the look on his sobrinito’s face), and hopes Pepa can help.
The air shifts, becoming damp and dense, crackling with electricity, the closer Bruno gets to Pepa and Félix’s room. He can hear sniffles within, and just as he’s reaching for the doorknob, the door flies open.
Pepa’s thunderclouds burst over their heads. “What the hell, Bruno?!”
The younger sibling flinches. “Peps!” He squeaks. “I-I-I don’t know! Wait, t-there was this dream—ah, no, it doesn’t matter. I-I just. Didn’t mean to make Toñito cry!”
“Then what. Happened.” Pepa delivers two good pokes to Bruno’s waist, followed by a sharp, shocked gasp and a blast of frigid wind as she recoils, yanking her hands to her chest.
She breathes, “Dios.” It starts to snow. “Oh. Oh. Brunito. ¿Qué? No… We need… Julieta—Does she know?!”
Bruno feels that chill again, and this time, he allows himself to shudder.
“What is going on?” He asks, voice coming out steadier than he feels.
His sister responds by taking him by the hand and tugging him into her room, where Antonio is seated on the bed with his knees drawn up and tucked beneath his chin.
“…You haven't noticed?”
“Clearly not," he deadpans as he's positioned in front of the full length mirror.
“Mira,” Pepa says cautiously. She gestures at his shirt before moving back to sit next to her son.
Bruno sighs, and starts undoing the buttons there. As his shirt falls open, he sucks in a breath. Oh, no.
Where his belly should be, fattened over time and from many healing meals—
He shivers, squeezes his eyes shut.
It’s worse than he could’ve imagined...
—A firm plane of sculpted muscle.

The courtyard was sunny, but the kitchen was overcast. Pepa and Julieta stood shoulder-to-shoulder where they leaned against the counter, whispering. They stopped when Bruno walked in, and didn’t resume when they saw it was him, not one of the kids. Shoulders hunched and dirty plate held in front of his chest, he made his way to the sink, never quite making eye contact. It looked just as full as it had at the end of lunch.
“Agustín and I may have gotten distracted,” Julieta explained. When he looked up, she smiled, a wry twist of her lips. It dropped quickly. There were tired lines beneath her eyes, and deeper wrinkles at the corner than he’d paid attention to.
---
The triplets have a conversation that's been years in the making.

"what do MeAN i need sand to use my magic?!"
"What do you MeAN I need sand to use my magic?!"
Alma tried not to frown as they stepped into Brunito's room. She could already imagine the sand particles getting all over Casita's floor and all over her poor son. Said poor son looked around the bedroom, which was thankfully the right size for a five-year-old. She'd nearly had a heart attack when she saw how big Pepa's room was.
"It's empty," her redhead child chose to say at that moment. "It's so boring."
"Pepa!" Julieta, always the fair child, said. "Be nice! It's..." Both her and Bruno turned to see the eldest triplet look around, her Pedro's big brown eyes looking for something nice to say. "LOOK!" She pointed at a shelf. "Look, Brunito, you can put your vision there."
"Ooh!" Alma clapped. "It'll be like a little art gallery." The green glass image Bruno held of the future, the triplets beaming with cake in their mouth, was a piece of art. She knelt and smiled at her son. "What do you think?"
Bruno hummed, looking around. Something seemed to settle in him and he nodded. "Can you lift me up?"
Alma already was wrapping her hands around him.
"Always."

Fic rec!
What went on behind the scenes of the movie Encanto? Follow each character through their most important scenes as well as flashback from Mirabel's ceremony and memorable moments of their childhood.
Despite the description that made me think it was going to be a ghost story, it is nothing of the sort! The author is very skilled at getting into the head of each member of the family and add additional explanation about why characters where in some scenes in the movie and what hapenned behind the scenes.
A must read! No OCs, only canon.

Bruno’s hands wouldn't stop shaking.
As he sank down into the sand, he kept his eyes locked on the small flame at the end of his match. It flickered and staggered with alarm, stuttering at the mercy of his quivering fingertips. He reached past his stiffly crossed legs toward the pile of leaves and herbs, watching as the flame fell to the kindling and the fire crackled to life. The heavy smell of sage filled the air.
At the moment, the smell was making him feel a little sick.
Okay, okay, cálmate. Oíme, sí?  You've gotta calm down, Bruno. P-p-pull it together. Going into it like this…nah you-you can't go into it like this. Now. Relax. Caaaalmate. [Calm yourself. Listen to me, okay? Caaaaalm down.]
He took a deep, steadying breath, but he couldn't make it reach the bottom of his lungs. He closed his eyes and rested his palms as loosely as he could against his knees, but they continued to quiver in the still night air. The inaudible whispers that had lingered after his vision-dream now seemed to move tangibly through the air around him, swirling in whisps like smoke from his fire.
Let's get you to your door. Let the way be open. A new perspective. Let the way be open. Let the way be open. Let the way be open…
He could feel his magic rising in his chest, could feel it pushing at his mind, antsy and impatient, refusing to be held back any longer.
He still wasn't ready. But that didn't matter anymore.

Encantober 2023 Day 31: Sunrise
One of Felix and Agustin's favorite things to do was wake up right before the sun came up to watch the sunrise. It was a tradition they had since they moved into the Madrigal home. Sometimes, Bruno would join in after waking up earlier than usual and they'd stay until Julieta wakes up to cook breakfast for the family.
One day Felix, Agustin, and Bruno watched the sunrise together, Julieta noticed them and walked closer to them. She sat next to her husband and the men jumped when they noticed her. Julieta then leaned her head on Agustin's shoulder.
"How are you boys doing?" she asked.
"We're doing alright. What made you decide to watch the sunrise with us?" Agustin replied.
"I've been noticing you three watching the sunrise together for several years and wanted to join, but I didn't want to disrupt your guys' moment. I decided to do it now because I wanted to enjoy the sunrise with you too."
Agustin put his arm around his wife as the four of them admired the blue and orange sky together. With all the years of watching from a distance, getting to watch it up close hit Julieta differently.
"Is Pepa still asleep?" Felix asked.
"Si, I didn't want to wake her up because I know she's going to kill me if I do."
Right on cue, Pepa walks through Casita's front door to see her sister, brother, husband, and brother-in-law sitting together. She sat down next to Felix and put her head on his shoulder. Felix jumped when he felt something on his shoulder and looked over to see Pepa.
"Pepi! We were just talking about you. We thought you were asleep," he mentioned.
"I was, but I had to go to the bathroom and I noticed you weren't in bed next to me. I looked all over the house for you and found you four out here," Pepa explained.
"Mi vida, I just want you to know that this was mine and Gus's time and Bruno decided to join us, so it became our guys time. Julieta just decided to do this with us today. And I'm happy you're joining us now."
Pepa hugged her husband and Felix put his arm around her. "You know I don't mind your guys' time."
The five of them laid down in the front yard and witnessed the sky as the orange slowly turned into more blue. They held hands together as they scooted over to make a circle.
"How does it feel to join us, hermanas?" Bruno asked.
"It feels amazing. I want to do this more often," Julieta responded.
"Can we do this every morning?" Pepa asked.
"We could, but we usually do it once a week so we don't tire ourselves out too much. But I'll tell you what. Next time we do this, we'll wake you up and we can watch the sunrise together," Felix explained.
"I'll wake you up too when we do it again," Agustin added.
Julieta and Pepa smiled as they both gave their husbands the biggest hug they could. There was nothing in the world they would trade this moment for, even if they were going to be a little bit tired in the morning because Alma usually wanted everyone out the door for their morning chores before then o'clock. But at least Pepa, Felix, Bruno, and Agustin could catch up on sleep before the children woke up and Julieta was finished cooking breakfast.
"Do you know what this reminds me of?" Julieta said to break the silence.
"What?" Agustin asked.
"That time when the five of us were watching the sun set after dinner and looking back on our friendship and relationship throughout the years."
"It does! And that moment makes me think of when we first met and became friends and how our relationships budded all those years, and how our love has gotten stronger over time," Pepa explained.
"As much as I love having my guy time, I love this even more because I get to share this time with my sisters," Bruno said.
"Would you love to have it more often with us?" Julieta asked.
"I would love that more than anything in the world."
"Even if your rats wanted to join us?" Pepa asked.
"Oh, I've brought some of them out a couple of times. They weren't too much of fans of being woken up this early just to watch the sun rise."
Julieta and Pepa laughed and hugged their brother together. While most of the village gave him strange looks their whole lives, Julieta and Pepa would not have wanted him any other way.
Julieta, Agistin, Pepa, Felix, and Bruno continued talking and laughing through the dawn until their children peeked through the window of the front door to see their parents and uncle sitting in the front yard, talking and laughing together. The six of them opened Casita's front door and slowly walked up to them.
"Mami? We thought you would be cooking breakfast right now," Mirabel said as she tapped her mother's shoulder.
The adults jumped and looked behind them, to see their children standing in a row. They then looked at the sun to see that the oranges in the sky were turning into more blues. It must already be seven o'clock if all six children were awake.
"Lo siento, ninos, we just found your father's and tio watching the sun rise and we wanted to join them," Julieta explained.
"We'll be doing this a little more often though," Pepa added.
"Well, we are starting to get hungry, and we didn't see you in the kitchen, tia. We were just worried," Camilo explained.
The adults got up from the ground and walked into Casita with their children. They all walked into the kitchen together so they all could talk a little bit more while Julieta cooked breakfast. The adults simultaneously thought that one day, they could include the children in their sunset watching. Not only would they appreciate it, but it could be a great bonding session for all of them. Needless to say, it was the most memorable time of the day.

Since AO3 is struggling at the moment, I'll post this here for now and put it on AO3 later. This is set before "Reading Glasses", a story I wrote some time ago.
Edit: Now posted to AO3! HERE
Step One (Reading Glasses)
When Antonio suddenly appeared beside him and excitedly held up a drawing he did, Bruno tipped backward in surprise. After a breath, he took the picture and held it further away from his face so he could see it properly. "Oh wow, this is great! Is it Chispi?"
"Yeah! Chispi sat and let me draw her even though I can't talk to her right now."
"That was nice of her. I wish my rats would sit still for a portrait. Very nice job, Antonio."
"Thanks, Tío!"
Antonio took his picture back and ran out of the house to show it to the next family member he wanted to see it. All of the Madrigals were in temporary accommodations until Casita was rebuilt, so he was running from house to house.
Pepa watched the interaction with a small smile, happy that her brother is finally back with them and can meet her little boy.
Beside her, Julieta, who usually noticed things first, hummed and lifted an eyebrow. "Bruno, how are your eyes?"
"Hmm?" He looked up, "What do you mean?"
"Well both Pepa and I have reading glasses now, so I was wondering if you also needed some."
"Oh. Hmm, no, I think I'm alright?" Bruno shrugged.
"Somehow I doubt that. Here, try my glasses."
Julieta handed her glasses to her brother along with a recipe card. "Try reading this without the glasses, then with them."
"Alright." He held the card away from his face at arms length and read it.
Pepa chuckled. "Oh he definitely needs glasses."
Bruno glanced at her, then placed the blue cat-eye frames on his nose before looking back at the card. "Oh wow."
"Do the glasses help?" Julieta smirked.
"Yeah." Bruno admitted while he looked at the card.
"We'll take you to the optometrist tomorrow."
He suddenly looked nervous as he looked up at her through the lenses, making his already big puppy dog eyes look even bigger. "Why do I have to go? Can't I just use yours sometimes?"
"You have to get a proper check up anyway, and yes that is a requirement, so let's start with the eye doctor. It's the easiest one," Julieta explained.
"It's to make sure you're healthy, Bruno. You've gone too long without a check up. We'll be right there beside you," Pepa said.
"W-well ok…I-I guess if you're there too…but I'm not excited about it." Bruno hunched down and pouted.
"You'll get some reading glasses out of it. With all the reading you do, I think you'll appreciate that," Pepa said.
"F-Fine…"
At the optometrists office, Bruno was sat behind a machine while he anxiously fiddled with the edge of his ruana. Julieta put a hand on his shoulder and Pepa smiled at him from the doorway. Having his sisters there with him helped keep him calmer but he was still nervous about leaving Casita.
The doctor came over to him after writing down a few notes. He was warned beforehand to tell his skittish patient what he's going to do before he does it to avoid too much flinching and possible panic by the anxious man.
"Alright let's get this over with, eh?"
Bruno nodded and offered a pitiful smile that didn't reach his eyes.
"None of this will hurt, but I'm going to get fairly close to you, alright?" The doctor explained.
"O-o-okay…" Bruno stuttered. He released his ruana so he could cross his fingers. While in the office, he wasn't allowed to throw salt around in order to keep the equipment safe.
The whole process went smoothly besides a few of Bruno's more intense flinches knocking the equipment. The doctor calmly reset what was bumped and continued.
"How does that look?"
"That…that looks, um, clear. I-I can read it."
"Is this better?"
"Y-Yes."
After a few more tests, Bruno was free to go. He was thoroughly done with everything and hid underneath his hood while his sisters took over for him. They showed him a few frames they liked and he picked one after trying them on. Finally, he was taken home.
Bruno was completely exhausted from the whole ordeal, so he decided to take a nap in the borrowed room he shared with his sisters. The triplets refused to be separated for the first month at least.
A week later, at a picnic lunch with the whole family, Pepa presented a package and gave it to Bruno.
"This arrived today." She pushed it into his hands and waited eagerly for him to open it.
He started to open it while the rest of the family watched curiously. The box held his new reading glasses. He pulled them out and tried them on, shyly smiling at his family.
A smattering of compliments and little jabs about getting old came from his various family members.
"When did you go get your eyes checked?" Alma asked.
"Um, last week."
"We noticed he might need them when he was holding everything at arm's length," Pepa giggled.
"Turns out he has the worst eyes of the three of us," Julieta informed them.
Everyone processed that information quietly, knowing a few factors probably contributed to that before Félix broke the silence. "Lookin' good Bruno! You'll find it much easier to read now." He held up his own glasses that were usually sitting in his shirt pocket.
"Thanks," Bruno said with a smile. He put his glasses away and hugged his sisters. "Thanks for helping me."
"You're welcome, now eat hermano, you need to put on some weight." Julieta said as she filled his plate.
Pepa put a hat on his head. "And tell us if you're getting too hot, you're so pale you'll burn easily. Here, drink more water."
Bruno laughed then, thoroughly happy to be back with his family. The emotions overflowed into tears and he started crying. Both of his sisters hugged him tightly and he let it all out.
"I'm so sorry! I love you so much, I'm sorry!" Bruno wailed.
"It's ok, Bruno. We're here, let it go." Pepa said as she rubbed his back.
"We love you too, hermano. We love you so much." Julieta squeezed him and kissed his cheeks.
After a while, he calmed down and uttered one last apology, embarrassed at the display.
Agustín replaced the hat that fell off his head and said, "Don't worry about it. Everyone needs a moment sometimes."
Julieta stuffed a buñuelo into his mouth, effectively breaking any tension. "Now eat, you're too scrawny."
So he did. They all got their fill of the good food and pleasant conversation, just enjoying the afternoon together. Camilo and Mirabel started a fútbol game and all the kids formed teams.
"C'mon, join us!" Camilo called to the adults still sitting comfortably.
"You guys have fun, we'll enjoy watching you!" Félix replied.
"You guys are no fun." Camilo rolled his eyes as he returned to the game.
"I'm far too stuffed to run around right now…" Bruno sighed tiredly.
"Get used to it, I'm going to put some weight back on you." Julieta said with determined finality.
"'M not complaining, I missed warm food," Bruno flinched, "Sorry…"
"No need to be sorry. We talk about things now," Alma said. She briefly looked at her daughters for confirmation and got two nods before returning to her book.
Pepa put a book in one of Bruno's hands and a glass of water in the other. "It's hot, drink more water. Now, this book is one I thought you would enjoy. I read it a few months ago and instantly thought of you."
After drinking his water, Bruno looked at the cover and turned it over to read the back. He held it out at arm's length for a moment before Pepa put his glasses on for him.
"Oh, right…heh." Bruno chuckled at himself and brought the book closer. "Hey this looks pretty good! Thanks!" He immediately opened it up and started reading it.
Julieta put an arepa into his hand and he automatically started nibbling on it, lost in the story. She and Pepa stifled their giggles at that before turning to watch their kids play their game.
Bruno got used to pulling out his glasses eventually. He lost them sometimes and usually found them on his head where he had forgotten about them.
The glasses caused Pepa to notice his colour was returning to the healthy dark olive tone he was supposed to have. He had gotten some tan lines where the arms of his glasses sat along the sides of his head from reading outside for hours on end.
He had a much easier time seeing his sobrinos' drawings, writings, and whatever else they wanted to show him. He didn't notice the intricate detail of Mirabel's designs or the subtle additions of tiny rats on Chispi's back in Antonio's drawing before getting the glasses.
Some months later, they even contributed to Julieta noticing her determination was starting to pay off when he lifted his shirt to clean them, revealing the start of healthy weight returning to his middle.
Bruno appreciated the glasses for allowing him to read comfortably, his family enjoyed seeing the positive changes in him. That visit to the eye doctor started him on his path to health and reconnecting with his family one small step at a time.
