It's official now! 'Happy Kiss Appreciation Week' is happening in 2023 as a way to celebrate Happy Kiss' 5th anniversary!

The event will be happening from April 2nd to April 8th! (Three of the date options from the form tied, so I picked one of them at random ^^')

Any kinds of fanworks will be welcomed throughout the week! Just post them under the tag 'happy kiss appreciation week' and it'll be reblogged. There will also be an AO3 collection, which will be created closer to the date of the event.

My only real hope for later today, is for a Nendoroid Claude von Riegan (post timeskip) to get announced. And the same for Dimitri.

I was a little tempted to add movie versions of Ballister and Ambrosius from the Netflix Nimona movie. But I'm not sure yet, if I'm as obsessively fixated enough on them, enough to want figures.

The Golden Deer's post timeskip versions used to take up 2 squares. So when I consolidated them into 1 square and freed up another square, I was about to add some older picks that left my bingo cards by now:

But it'd always be nice to get all these versions that both Miku and the Kagamine twins have been getting. Like Harvest Moon, Symphony 2022 (Symphony 5th Anniversary), yukata/kimono, etc. I'd really love for other Vocaloids to get Snow versions too.

Good Smile Company didn't provide a bingo card template this time. So I was about to reuse my WonHobby36 version but change the logo. Then I remembered that I've always wanted to make icons out of the official figure line/brand logos. So I made this new bingo card mostly from scratch, with all the icons and figure types that I wanted.

3 of the 5 characters in the collab have been announced on a Twitter post a little while ago! It seems that the collab will feature Sayo, Toko, and Ran along with two other characters! (here were my predictions pre-this announcement about the collab (along with other livestream-related predictions) ) My predictions with this news is down below:

From this information, we can narrow the rarities likely being down to Sayo getting the 5 star (as she is the only of these three to not have one), Toko getting the gacha 4 star (as she got a 5 star recently from the most recent Dream Festival, and she also got an event 3 star the event prior to DF), and Ran getting one of the event cards (While she's on the more due side in terms of 4 stars and 5 stars now, there are more characters that need a gacha card over her, especially since she is featured as a 4 star already in the Persona collab). This means that we still likely need the other 5 star character and the other event card character to be announced. Like I said in my last prediction post, Masuki is the only character to not have a limited card, so I predict her to also be in the collab as a 5 star as she also doesn't have a 5 star card (Rimi is still possible for a 5 star, but the chance is unlikely for some reasons I said below). The event card is a little bit harder to narrow down, however, there's a few things to note:

Two out of three characters announced are guitarists, and the other is a vocalist/guitarist, so it's likely no other guitarist will be in the collab (especially considering Re:ZERO's second collab, as Kaoru was featured in that event as well)

Tae, Hina, Moca, and Tsukushi don't have event 3 stars from after the 4th anniversary, This expands to CHU2, Rui, Hagumi, PAREO, Sayo, Saya, Maya, Ako, and Tsugumi if we extend this to past the 5th anniversary. Out of all the characters, Tsukushi is the only one with just a single event card (her card "A+ Leadership" from the event "Blossoming Symphony", an event over 3 years old!), The second lowest is Mashiro, with 2, and there are a mix of characters with only 3 (Moca, Rui, Rokka, and PAREO).

Because of Re:ZERO's second collab featuring two characters from said band, it's safe to say no Hello, Happy World characters will be featured in this collab, I'd consider Pastel*Palettes (minus Eve, obviously) to still be a mild possibility; Hina and Maya were listed in the event 3 star section, and Aya and Chisato were their respective event 4 stars.

Poppin'Party is the hardest to decide. All of them are relatively due for non-5 star cards, but it's likely their next event is in July with Afterglow, Pasupare's characers aside from Aya aren't that due to the point of needing an event, and Roselia had an event crunch recently so their next event will probably be later in August or September (RAS and HHW are possibilities in the other July event as there was an event gap for both of them (Morfonica didn't have as big of an event gap so they'll also get August or September too), but I feel it's still a bit early for either of them, at most hhw could get the summer event as they're the only band to not have a beach event (only the Haiku event back in 2019 can be considered their summer set), but even then the event crunch would be an extreme 5 events between banners, and the event then would most likely be Kokokanon due to them being the most due, and they already share three banners together, including two limited events (and including the already said Haiku event)). Rimi doesn't have a 5 star yet, but she's also due a banner and nobody else in popipa is (Rimi's last banner was in September 2021, while the next most due for a banner in Popipa is Tae during New Years 2023). However you can also deconfirm them for the collab as Kasumi has the most recent Popipa 3 star, and Saya and Arisa are tied for the most event 3 stars in Popipa, so they're unlikely too, and Tae is canceled out for being a guitarist, and if Rimi is in the event, she would more likely be a 5 star (While Kaoru was in a similar boat with R:Z 2, as her last 4 star then was in January that year, and her last limited 4 star being way back in February 2018, Rimi's situation is a bit less fair if she does get an event card, as this is her first 5 star as compared to a second limited 4 star (as Kaoru would later get)).

With some thought, I personally think that the event 3 star will be Tsukushi. She is the most clear cut and the most due for an event 3 star, and most of the other possible characters it could be are guitarists (Hina, Moca, and Tae) or apart of Hello, Happy World (Kokoro (I didn't explain her, but she lacks a limited 3 star, and can only get one through collab events now, and her last lim was back in Halloween 2021), Miaski and Hagumi) which I already explained why on my last points. Other possibilities are CHU2 (same circumstance Kokoro is in, however announcing the last two characters as RAS mambers would be too off-putting of a situation, it could happen if the other character was Rimi and not Masuki, but that's doubtful as she's the most due for a banner anyways), and Mashiro (who has more limited cards compared to the rest of Morfonica, so including her would be a bit unfair). Afterglow should be the following event and Himari and Tsugumi would be featured as the 5 stars (as Tsugu is the last pre-6th anni Kiramekifes card haver to not get a second 5 star amidst Kaoru's appearance in this event), and everyone else generally isn't due for a 3 star or a card necessarily.

TLDR: my predictions are: Sayo and Masuki as the 5 stars Toko as the 4 star and Ran and Tsukushi as the event 3 stars!

with the announcement of the great ace attorney i'd like to ask that everyone please refrain from creating or engaging with art that has the rising sun design on it.

tl;dr: it symbolizes the glorification of japanese imperialism so using it sucks.

not tl;dr, everything below the read more.

(tws for below include: discussion of colonization and imperialism, multiple examples of the rising sun motif being used)

this is the japanese flag used today. it’s different from what i’m about to talk about -- this one’s fine, it’s just a flag!

i’m talking about this flag. for those who don't know, the rising sun motif is a common symbol in a lot of japanese art and design. its motifs (those red and white (sometimes pale yellow) alternating rays) show up quite a lot in anime, games, and decorations around and from japan. they shouldn’t.

nowadays, the rising sun carries a storied and extremely bloody history. to the nations and people japan invaded, it symbolizes that colonization and the numerous war crimes that japanese soldiers and government committed. i don’t really want to get into it so google "japanese imperial war crimes" if you don't already know. they were an empire. they colonized. you can probably guess the rest.

the japanese government still refuses to take accountability for their crimes, and even goes as far as to deny they ever happened. no apologies have been issued, ever, and even some japanese textbooks refuse to even acknowledge the subject. (this article’s from 2013 but it’s still applicable.)

so using it as a decorative element in your artwork, as you might guess, raises some issues. it would be like hanging a confederate flag as aesthetic flair at your american diner (and i know some places do that. they shouldn’t.)

unfortunately, lots of things do just that! these two were literally just stuff i pulled from my memory in two minutes. but it sucks! you shouldn’t do it!

"but how does this relate to lawyer game?"

the rising sun has appeared multiple times in promotional art or merchandise for dgs as decoration, which is a careless and harmful move on the part of the artists and of capcom itself.

the rising sun did exist before the 1900s, so having it on dgs art (roughly the 1890s) is technically historically compliant, but it turns out that meanings change over time, and sometimes, when you depict something from the past it carries new meanings in today’s context!

these games might be set in the past, but they are extremely modern creations. they shouldn't have this motif, and neither should any fanart.

the rising sun not just a decoration anymore, and it hasn’t been for over a century. symbols have meanings, and those meanings can change over time with context. what matters is what the rising sun symbolizes now.

at best, the rising sun is a symbol of refusal to acknowledge japan's imperial past, and at worst a glorification of it. right wing japanese media loves the rising sun flag almost as much as they like to deny all the war crimes.

dgs is a product of the culture that created it. and it is literally set right before japan decided to go full steam ahead on brutal colonization, so "an empire with no justice has no future" rings a little hollow knowing what comes after. (japan was being exploited at the time, but right after they decided to do the same exact thing...)

i'm not expecting a thorough critique of imperialism in my fun steampunk sherlock holmes crossover romp, and as wild as "dai gyakuten saiban 3: ryuunosuke naruhodou dodges the draft" would be, capcom would never make a game like that.

there’s a lot to be discussed regarding dgs’ critique of imperialist power and of how japan in the late 1800s was entering that militarized colonizing state and how it’s criticized, but i am not the person to be making that post.

at the very least you can't deny it is at least, a little weird seeing imperialist symbols plastered on top of merchandise.

i don’t hold any sway over capcom or the people who make ace attorney. but what i do ask if that people who like these games or want to show their appreciation (like me! i draw fanart of it sometimes!) just don’t put the rising sun motif on it. basically, just don’t put it on your art?? that’s literally all i’m asking.

Happy 5th Anniversary Persona 5.

I don’t know what it is about this game that really grabbed me so much this year. I started playing it in February, around when Persona 5 Vanilla was free for PS5 users, and I had been putting the game off for years, despite my best friend begging me to play it so many times. I had said “sure I’ll check it out some time” ever since 2018, and in February of this year I finally downloaded it from the PS store for free and played it for the first time. I was hooked

I still can’t really fathom what about Persona 5 just hooked me in instantly. Normally when I get into a new game, franchise, show or whatever, I will obsess about it for a couple weeks or maybe a month, and then I’ll kind of just move on from it; not forget it entirely, but I will have moved on to another topic. Persona 5 grabbed me and I had entered my usual obsession. Of course, Persona 5 is a long ass game so naturally it took me about a month to complete, but not once had I dropped it. I spent that entire month of February/March blasting my way through the story. Most games I would drop for a while and come back later to complete, because I have other things in the way. Nah I became fully invested once I had completed the first palace. I even purchased Persona 5 Royal because my friend told me it was the superior version, which meant I had to do the first palace all over again and pick up where I left off, but I didn’t mind, that first plot arc was one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had with any media. I bopped to the soundtrack of course, which is genuinely one of the best OSTs I’ve ever heard, and only inspired me to play through more of the game to hear more of the music. One I heard Blooming Villain and Rivers of The Desert for the first time, I just vibed so hard. My best friend told me it would probably take me 2 months to beat Royal but I actually beat it in about a month and a week. After that I wasn’t done, fuck no; I bought Persona 5 Strikers because it had just come out around the time I started playing vanilla, and I beat that in about a week, amazing fucking game again, I can’t even come up with the words to explain. At this point I was fully into watching videos about Persona, retweeting stuff on Twitter, following blogs, accounts, channels, anything Persona related. I then looked into the older games, and decided to play Persona 4 Golden. I bought it on steam and blasted my way though that, and I think I had just amount of fun as I did with P5, and I really didn’t think I would because of the older mechanics and stuff but fuck was I wrong. That games soundtrack and characters I would argue even tops some of the ones from P5 but at this stage I think I love them equally. At this point my room had already been decorated in Persona 5 posters, merch, artwork, and I had already purchased merchandise and t-shirts. Then I found out I could buy Persona 3 FES on the PS3. I still haven’t gotten that far in Persona 3 yet thought because unlike the time I downloaded Persona 5, I am no longer unemployed in a lockdown so I don’t have as much time anymore to fully invest myself but man I have not forgotten. I am still in on this obsession, after 7 months I am still in love with this series. I can’t even remember what my life was like before I played Persona 5, it’s heard to even think about my life before then. But anyway this is just a big long ramble about Persona as we’ve reached the 5 year anniversary in Japan, and I just want to make a big post sharing my love and experience with the series.

Here’s my Persona collection so far. Just this week I managed to find Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and Persona 4 and I didn’t even mind spending an extra buck for them. I will be looking forward to expanding my collection. I am so excited to see what’s to come for the 25th anniversary announcements and I will be ready for Persona 6.
