Since we’re talking about ‘Las 15+1’ a lot today I have a thought and I’d like to hear yours:
I’ve seen people claiming Alexia Putellas will put her career first and go to the World Cup, and I get the point but I think everyone is just looking at one perspective and missing others:
Many people say she’ll want to play after missing this season due to injury. But in their statement, ‘Las 15’ made it clear the conditions on the national team affected their physical health, with trainings causing preventable injuries... This seemed to be one of the key issues for them, as they’re all players enjoying their prime and can’t risk injuries. And Alexia will be back on the pitch by late april/may at best. Go back to horrible training conditions right after an ACL injury? the worst possible injury for an athlete?? just seems terribly dangerous.
And also, a lot of you say she won’t miss the opportunity of winning the World Cup... But that’s what started it all. They want to compete for titles but don’t believe in Vilda’s ability to coach and in RFEF’s project + conditions for training given by the federation to the squad. With all players available Spain still hasn’t gone past quarterfinals in recent years, if Las 15 don’t come back along with Alexia, their chances are dull. There’ll be no competition without Las 15.
Yes, Alexia is very famous now and most definitely feels pressure from sponsors to compete in the World Cup. Yes, she’s at her prime and WC is a golden opportunity. But the problems that started it all haven’t been solved. It’s a lose-lose situation for everyone involved and I genuinely can’t see Alexia or Las 15 coming back without changes happening, especially now with Canda, France and Peru going through the same things.
Another note: this whole RFEF situation needs to be perceived by fans as seriously as it really is. Confronting federations is the hardest thing an athlete can do. Women have so little and they risk it all by doing that.
But also let’s be more mature and understand that if any of them go back to Spanish NT, they’re not villains for doing so. They’ve put their careers in risk for this, only they know what they went through. We can’t treat it as if it’s all fandom wars.

According to local media, ANFP (Chilean football association) wants Chile nt to play friendlies with teams outside of latin america (specifically europe) and mentioned they were surprised to see Peru playing against Germany so they started a process to secure a match against them as well 🤯
