miles and gummy getting serious enough in their relationship where they move in together (read: gummy moves in with miles) and they have to get missile and pess acclimated to each other

like they've interacted a lot before and have been together for maybe a few days at a time when gummy would stay at miles's place over the weekend. but now they have to permanently learn how to navigate around each other

missile gets a little shy, hesitates to leave gummy's side when pess is in the room. he doesn't feel like he's allowed to be in the same space as pess. but pess literally does not give a shit about missile's presence and just continues to do her thing

she gets really annoyed when miles pays attention to missile, though, and as revenge, makes gummy pay attention to her and lays all over him

they do share the food and water bowls well enough, and missile only tries to eat pess's treats and chewies every once and a while. and pess enjoys going outside more when it's with missile, like when miles and gummy take them both on an evening walk together through the neighborhood

Dogs often have a hard time during the new year with the fireworks and noise, so I think Miles would sit near his dog in their time of need, being mutual companions and a safe place whenever they need it

so i’ve mentioned this idea in fics and posts before, and i’m pretty sure other people have too, but the idea that egdeworth’s apartment contains only the bare necessities and approximately 0 creature comforts is always in my brain.

in particular though i like to think about the process of him feeling more settled and at home, and how that development is almost 100% reliant on letting more and more people into his life. 

franziska is the kickstarter, staying with him once or twice back in his first few years as a prosecutor. she’s always complaining about the lack of comfortable seating in his living room, and the kitchen cabinets that are missing the proper ingredients and utensils to make herself dinner. so he gets a plush couch and takes her with him on a grocery run to stock his pantry with kitchen staples

later, phoenix ends up crashing on his couch once or twice. he notices the walls are empty, and that the space lacks in character, feels impersonal. he tells edgeworth that he knows painters from college with open commissions, and encourages him to reach out, liven up the space a bit. phoenix is also always forgetting something, meaning there’s often an extra coat or pair of shoes at the door. 

then he and maya become friends, and she comes over once in a while to watch Steel Samurai with him. she’s always bringing extra snacks and leaving the leftovers, helping his cabinets look less barren. and, for his birthday one year, she buys him a puzzle with glue and a frame, and encourages him to put it together and hang it up somewhere in the house. 

he adopts pess, and as much as he wishes she’d listen to him better, he just can’t bring himself to keep her off the couch. it’s always covered in dog fur, and the living room floor is littered with plush toys and tennis balls, but at least the space looks lived in now.

he meets kay and sebastian who end up spending the night once in a while, going so far as to start letting themselves in eventually. kay’s the perpetrator, of course, considering they don’t have keys to the place. to avoid extra calls to the locksmith to repair the broken locks she leaves in her wake, he ends up ordering each of them their own key. as much as it’d be hard for him to say aloud, he never feels quite as comfortable as when he arrives home after a long day of work to see one of them asleep on the couch with pess. 

trucy and phoenix move in eventually, and leave magical props and legal documents strewn about the place. but so long as they don’t get too unorderly, edgeworth finds he doesn’t find the mess as bothersome as he thought it’d be. after all, it’s evidence of his family.
