Concept for Beyond The Spiderverse; Miles gets his shit rocked by whatever, maybe a heroic sacrifice attempt. O'Hara gets over to him first, and Miles, one (1) inch from death, sees a dark, broad figure in blue above him through the haze of pain and near-death fog, and tells who he thinks is his father that he's sorry and that he loves him.
Cue Miguel "Repressed Catholic Grieving Father Who Was Just Trying To Maim This Child" O'Hara trying to 1; cope with being a dad again, in any capacity, for even a moment, and 2; figure out if he should play along and pretend to be Jefferson, so this child can at least think he's dying in the comfort of his father's presence

It sounds like Joe and Ken focused on telling stories, stories that being stories focused on the world and characters they knew. While Pete's were more focused on delivering a message with story flavored wrapping.
This is very much the case, but the difference seems to go even deeper than that, to a fundamental difference in worldviews that affect how they approach story.
Episodes written by Joe Fallon and Ken Scarborough respect children as people. Children have been shaped by their experiences and have unique personalities. Children are curious and have brains--they are driven to explore new things and can draw conclusions from what they see and do. Children are already people who deserve respect, and like all of us, they're growing into different people as they learn new things and have more experiences. The child characters can thus be the drivers of their own stories and come to learn lessons for themselves. The child audience can relate to those characters, be drawn into the story, and learn what it's trying to teach without having every detail explicitly spelled out.
Episodes written by Peter Hirsch seem to approach children as people-in-training. They might have one or two personality traits, but instead of coming from and interacting with other elements of their background, they're just pasted on, like a sticker you can put on your Generic Child Prototype. These blank-slate children need to have knowledge poured into them so they can become Properly Educated Adults. So in his episodes, these child characters will go through their story with a question, and the adults--the real people--will tell them the information in great detail so these characters--and the watching audience--can go off into the world knowing what the writer has decided they need to know.
In Joe and Ken's episodes, flaws are funny, and can create funny conflicts that will teach the children better ways to approach problems. In Pete's episodes, flaws are horrible things that need to be pointed out, labeled, and sanded away, so these children can grow up into the perfect model of what a Good Adult should be. The first approach is engaging, and celebrates diversity of personality in a community, while the other becomes bland in the interests of shaping all the members of a community into the desired mold.
Comparing the two approaches provides a shockingly thorough lesson in how one should and should not approach writing and education. Story and character and message are all intertwined. Trying to force the message onto the story and characters makes for something bland and generic and unrealistic. Letting the characters shape the story and letting the story bring out the message makes for something much more unique, organic, engaging, and real. And yes, maybe I've come to this conclusion by spending far too much time thinking way too deeply about a bunch of shows for elementary-aged chlidren, but that doesn't mean it's not fascinating to see how, even within the same show, an writer's personality and approach to the audience can make such a vast difference in the quality of a story.

Having now read all of SpyBoy to learn Butch's story and just what's going on with his mom (and oh my God there is SO MUCH going on with his mom it's nuts) this conversation is now both very sweet and incredibly hilarious.

I haven't read many comics with Tony, so is comic Tony just as bad as MCU Tony? Is he worse somehow?
I wouldn't say as bad just bc at least the comics aren't obsessed with making everything revolve around Tony also I will never not find it funny that around the same time that mcu Tony was getting all pissy that a brainwashed person killed his parents 616 Tony was finding out Howard and Maria weren't even his biological parents he was in fact a decoy they got to protect their actual biological son and that's why Howard was such a bitch to him

I would love to know ANYTHING you can tell me about this:
Tumblr media
Please and thank you? :3c 💕
omg!! it's still a WIP for now but hopefully i am cooking
this is basically my attempt to write something set post-gang war
i'm a petermj shipper first and foremost but editorial's ongoing mischaracterization of them as a couple has put me off of writing anything for them at the moment
For a while now, randy has been a pretty important part of peter's supporting cast, and I'd even argue that with Harry out of the picture, Flash doing his own thing, and Johnny too busy growing that ugly af mustache, Peter and Randy have definitely hung out a ton. Hell, Randy made Peter his best man, so I'd even go so far as to say they're best friends.
So, post-gang war, Peter is on friendly terms with his superhero colleagues, mending his friendship with MJ and trying to be a better mentor for Miles.
Randy is struggling in the midst of the sudden breakup with Janice. Seeing as no one came to his bachelor party, aside from Peter, it wouldn't be far off to assume that he and Peter don't run in exactly the same friend circles; I'd say his closest friends are probably Peter, Glory Grant, and Norah Winters. Maybe Betty, but she has a baby right now...with Ned fucking Leeds💀.
ahem.
Randy and Peter hook up and get into a friends-with-benefits kind of thing. I like to think that Randy always had a thing for Peter that he didn't really read too much into because everyone he knew simped for Peter so he thought it really wasn't that deep.
Peter, on the other hand, is kind of put-off at the thought of getting into a relationship, given his shit record of his romantic life. Also, he may have realized during the time he was in a coma that he had feelings for Randy.
I love Janice to death, which is why I really don't want to demonize her while writing this, so I want to have her and Randy reconcile in some way by the end of the fic.
Also, it is very important to me that throughout the story, Robbie Robertson is very suspiciously glaring at Peter like: DID YOU FUCK MY SON, SPIDER-MAN???
Also, Robbie definitely cares for Peter as a sort of younger mentee, but he's flawed in the sense that he's very protective of Randy--as we can see with him not approving of Janice, and he had some problems with Randy's ex-wife, Amanda. So he's very skeptical as to if Peter will be able to protect his son, and understandably so.
(robbie definitely knows peter is spider-man)
(whenever jonah, robbie and ben urich have their monthly old men yaoi hookup they all think the other two don't know that peter is spider-man and it's really funny)
(miles is definitely making fun of peter in the background as all this plot goes down)
Since I've been rambling for a while I'm going to finish off with some evidence to back this pairing:
*images are not loading so bear with me lol*

There are definitely also a bunch of shippy moments from the older comics, these are just the ones from the current run

Actually need Horrid Henry's parents under the ground of a jail cell, not even joking- the fact that Henry got in trouble for REACHING FOR CEREAL cause Peter whined....because the cereal was right next to Peter and therefore he had to reach across Peter and he didn't even nudge Peter mid-coloring but he still whined anyway, and then when Henry tried to get the milk after being told don't be horrid henry, ALSO NEXT TO PETER and again, didn't nudge Peter, but Peter still whined, THEY TOOK AWAY HIS BREAKFAST AND SAID GO BRUSH YOUR TEEHT LIKE- Your child needs fucking food??? Its basic parenting to provide food??? Let alone tell your second child if he doesn't wanna risk being nudged, move the cereal and milk so other's can reach it safely, not indulge the whining and punish the other child for shit they didn't even do... Oh and if you thought it was one day: next day Henry and Peter have started a silly game of dividing the table so they won't touch each other's sides...and Peter again has the cereal and milk near him so Henry can't even reach it and is stuck with an empty bowl...that the mom proceeds to take and fill up with cereal, only to give it to Henry's dad and say time for school! Meaning again, Henry's gone without breakfast and the mom is fine with it.

Hearts Like Wild Animals
Summary: I stopped pulling my punches. Peter Three had told his brothers as much from the start but this was the first time they had actually witnessed it.
A/N: Dark!Peter Three fic. I don't know if I consider this “canon” to my characterization of him. I just thought it would be an interesting experiment to see his affection for the others verge on the darker side.
__________
In all the wild world, there is no more desperate a creature than a human being on the verge of losing love. - Atticus
He can’t get it off. After so many years at this, he should have learned how to make all of it come off with ease but traces of it still linger, dark, dry flecks of red buried under his nails and in the bruised cracks of his knuckles to haunt him—him and his brothers.
No. They’re haunted by the blood. He’s haunted by the looks on their faces, all of the emotions they’re trying to disguise. Peter Two is better at it but the shock of what happened still has his eyelids pulled too far open and the line of his lips is pressed a little too thin. There are gears turning behind pale eyes that Peter Three can’t hope to read. Maybe he doesn’t want to.
Peter One struggles to keep it all in check. His face is still too young, too open to the other Peters’ reading. He’s…never tried to hide from Peter Three before. He’s never had to. Supposedly they knew each other too well. They knew each other as well as they knew themselves.
Is he realizing now, remembering that their bond was only a few hours old when Three called him “brother”? Is he remembering what happened the last time he trusted someone too soon? Has Peter Three dredged all of that horror and distrust back to the surface?
You saved him.
You terrified him.
Family is forever. Supposedly. Family loves each other unconditionally. Supposedly. His nails bite into his soiled palms against the urge to cry, beg, scream. He knows it isn’t his right to demand they understand but he wants them to! They should have known already! If they knew him at all, they would have grasped that his love is…a wild thing. He doesn’t want to call it obsessive but it is deep and desperate.
Family loves each other unconditionally. In his mind that means without restraint.
Was it really such a surprise to them? They should have understood already. He’d told them the truth from the start. I stopped pulling my punches.
What he feels for them isn’t in the same vein as what he felt for Gwen but it runs just as deep. Within those first few hours, he knew he loved them as surely as he knew his own name. And all they said in return was “Thank you.”
Maybe it’s his fault. Maybe he loves too far and too fast. That “Thank you” should have been his first sign that they wouldn’t figure it out as quickly. He should have impressed it upon them further before tonight. He should have been clearer.
You mean the world to me—all three of our worlds. You’re all I have. You gave me hope again. You give me strength. You hold the last of my heart, whatever Gwen left behind. I don’t know what I’d do without you. If anything happened to you, it would destroy whatever’s left of me. What breaks you breaks me. I can never let that happen. I’ll break them first. I’d break anything for you.
That’s all he’s ever done these past years. Until his brothers, he poured all that was left of himself into the city—and whatever or whoever tried to break his city, he broke first.
Now he has them and more importantly, they have him. He’ll give everything he has to them, for them, without a second thought. Tonight he can’t remember if there was a first thought. The clearest thing he remembers is that someone put their hands on Peter One with intent to break and that was unacceptable. Beyond that it was all white and red and the thunder of his wild, angry heart. Then it was Peter Two’s voice, hollering things he didn’t process, all of which amounted to the truth that he loved too much.
He was gentle again when he reached to pull Peter One off the ground. He tried to tell himself that it was the blood that made him recoil but that didn’t do anything to dull the agony of watching it. Peter One flinching, scuffing himself on the asphalt to dodge the touch of his brother, his protector…
Seeing that…For a split second, Peter Three had wished he could die on the spot.
Now he just wishes he could get the rest of the blood off so they could stop looking at him like that. Like he’s made of glass that will cut them if they get too close.
Peter Two’s eyes finally meet his. They’re as dim and cool as ice; he can’t see a thing in them. He wonders if the dread within him comes anywhere close to whatever Peter One felt, facing unrecognizable things in his eyes.
Maybe this is it. They can never love him as much as he loves them; he had known that from day one. Today’s the day they’ll decide that gluing him back together wouldn’t be worth the trouble and sweep the broken glass into the garbage to be forgotten. Better that than to risk their skin on his sharp edges.
Their final rejection might be the thing to end him but he’ll go with the belief that he stayed sharp to make them as safe as he could, and he was right to.
Peter Two pulls him close.
He hadn’t realized that he was shivering until now that he has warm arms around him. Still he can’t bring himself to return the gesture. He can’t touch him, he doesn’t deserve to, he doesn’t want to dirty his brother with any trace of the blood he spilled. He’s too precious for Three’s hands right now.
“That can never happen again,” Peter Two murmurs against his ear and it rings far louder than anything he had been shouting before.
He wants to say that it won’t.
But he loves them too much and they really don’t know him at all.

I’m sorry but I can’t help but imagine your version of the guys going through some of the issues they had in episodes! Like Michael mumbles and is awkward ordering food but when the devil tries to take Peter’s soul he stammers his way through his speech, holding Micky’s hand through it. When he tells Peter to go play he lets him touch his face and sideburns “for luck” but also because he knows Peter needs to stim to settle down.
My monkees feeds into the show if people misunderstood. They are themselves still in the show but just with their added backstory and what not!
But yes I love these ideas! Especially with mike having a difficult time having the confidence to speak so openly like that. He definitely has issues with mumbling and stammering cuz I think his mind as always moving too fast and his mouth can't quite catch up to his words (which is why he stumbles over his words a lot in the show) but I feel like the others give him the confidence to get through things like that (and yes he's Very awkward ordering food. Most of the times he'll have Davy or Micky do it for him)
Also the sideburns of luck 😭😭that's definitely something Peter made up. Like rubbing a genies lamp or something like that. I think mike just goes with it cuz he know how peter is with his affection. The way Peter shows affection can come off as very strange, but they all come to accept and even love the way Peter is with his affection
