La population de la zone de santé de KANDA KANDA est jeune, caractéristique d’une fécondité élevée et d’une mortalité infantile également élevée. Cette fécondité élevée   s’explique par la faible utilisation de méthodes modernes de planification familiale. Du fait de sa jeunesse , cette population est sexuellement active (avec risque de maladies transmissible y compris le VIH /sida) elle est aussi économiquement productive   nécessitant la création des emplois. Ceci montre les efforts que la zone de santé devrait fournir pour disposer des services de qualité à haut impact sur la santé de la mère et enfant (maternité, PF, vaccination, PETME, IST, PCIME …). La fécondité élevée de la population de la zone de KANDA KANDA est plus concentrée dans les milieux avec intenses activités commerciales (KABUELA, BAKWA BOWA, KAMANDA ET MATAMBA), ailleurs la population est très dispersée nécessitant la mise en place de stratégies spécifiques pour approcher les services de santé à la population comme les stratégies fixes, avancées, mobiles, l’implantation des postes de santé et des SSC

What if Mesozoic mammals were tiny because of the heat?

Recently a study for no evidence for Bergman’s rule (animals growing larger with colder climates) in Mesozoic dinosaurs and synapsids. Then another study came to mind, finding that mammals shrunk during the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maxium.

This lead to a question: what if Mesozoic mammals were strongly impacted by higher global temperatures, and couldn’t grow much larger?

Animals like Patagomaia, Repenomamus and Oxlestes among others show that relatively large sizes could be attained by Mesozoic mammals. The presence of absence of dinosaurs doesn’t seem to impact how large mammals grow (for instance both Maastrichtian Patagonia and early Cretaceous Liaoning have highly diverse small to large dinosaur faunas), so maybe global temperatures being higher made it harder for mammals to grow larger due to their high metabolisms.

Then again some Mesozoic synapsids didn’t have as high metabolisms and modern mammals, so who knows?

– PETM warming happened over a few thousand years. Cooling took about 100,000 years. Anthro warming is happening over a few hundred years so far and the rate of warming is much higher.

– PETM was one gas leak. Anthro warming is continuous global gas leaks.

– PETM happened to a vibrant powerful resilient biosphere. Anthro warming is happening to a biosphere depleted by 200 years of industry and 10,000 years of agriculture.
