it always feels so weird saying "im going back to my hometown" (which, is actually a bustling city) while studying at/living near my uni that's located in a province,, bc usually for other students it's the opposite

#provinces here in the PH have been mostly urbanized but there are still some parts that are RURAL rural yknow #and the big universities are located in manila / quezon city (we call it the u-belt)#it just so happens that the uni where i passed is located in a province #rin's stuff: rambles

There’s something overtly satisfying about hearing the click of his heeled boots against the tiled floor of the Atrium. Genesis had always liked the sound, ever since he was a child. He remembered it was one of the few things he’d adored about his mother. Times when she decided to play happy families with them at party’s and would hold his hand and strut confidently across a room, her heels clicking in just the right way to make Genesis behave, lest the sound stop.

It’s why he’d chosen the caves as his secret place. The walls made hypnotic echoing noises when he yelled or stopped his foot. It had satiated an itch in his brain like nothing else could, and when he was in control of that noise? Unparalleled pleasure. Nothing could compete, not even Sephiroth.

He would not necessarily say it was a dirty secret of his. He wasn’t ashamed of allowing himself simple pleasures, and he never would be, but he was distinctly aware that the level of pleasure he got from it was not exactly typical.

Most people who like the sound of heels on hard wood, like it or find it sexy or some such thing. Genesis knew that when he said he liked the sound, that’s what others had thought he meant. Most people didn’t repeatedly yell into an echoey room and get breathless with excitement when the sound reached back to meet them.

Most people enjoyed it in moderation.

“Feeling inferior in size again are we commander Rhapsodus” Scarlet smirked at him as he approached the board room.

“Says the woman who’s made up of more silicone than muscle,” he drawled back at her. She scowled at him.

“I’ll have you know everything about my assets” she framed her chest sensually for effect. Genesis resisted the urge to stick a hat pin in her boob just to watch it deflate like sad balloon. “Are natural,”

He rolled his eyes at her. “Mm, well your assets are in the way of the door. Move,” he shoved past her into the room, ignoring her squawk of indignation when he made her stumble.

He hated the board room for many reasons. The front runner being that it never meant anything good when himself and his fellow first class were rounded up to talk to the president. The fact that the room was carpeted so he couldn’t hear his feet just made it worse.

Sephiroth and Angeal were already at the table. The former typing away on his PHS, while Angeal sat picking at his eyebrows in anticipatory stress. Genesis slid into the chair they’d left between them, feeling a little too happy to be between his boys rather than next to one of them. It made him feel important in the best ways.

“Stop that,” he said taking Angeal’s wrist to pull his hand from his brow. “I refuse to sleep with a man who has no eyebrows,”

“And yet you Sleep with Seph?” Angeal shot back cheekily, making Sephiroth look up and cut him a disparaging look. Genesis snorts inelegantly.

“He’s the only exception to the rule darling. What he lacks in eyebrows he makes up for with his hair and pecks alone.” He snickers and Sephiroth makes a confused noise.

“What is wrong with my eyebrows?” He asks.

“They are very pale,” Angeal pokes back.

Gen tries his best not to brake, “it’s alright darling, we love you despite this one flaw,” he croons, obnoxiously patting Sephiroth’s cheek.

“You are both unendingly insufferable,” muttered the General before turning to lightly bite at Gens palm.

Once affections had been stoked and polite Hellos given to every other person Gen could care less about, the meeting got underway. As they had all predicted it was more conjecture and pontification about what President Shinra expected to come from there efforts to retake East Wutai. The fact that it was not a particularly geo-strategic province seemed utterly lost on the man.

Genesis was getting tired of hearing Lazard relay the same information over and over again as certain members of the heads department put there opinions in where they were not welcome. As if these people had a clue what it was like on the front lines. As if they knew the numbers of men they’d be risking just to take a province for little more than a presidential ego boost. Genesis had just lost a battalion to the Southern Army’s advances and it never felt justified when he pushed open the doors of their strongholds and homes to find mothers and babies laying bloody on the floor.

His leg starts to bounce as he attempted to keep his focus. Bored out of his mind was a state Gen was intimately familiar with, and usually he had no problem showing it, but even he had a modicum of self control when it came to putting on a show for president Shinra.

The man held not only his job but probably his life in the balance at any given time. Genesis was idiotic, not suicidal.

A hand appeared on his knee making his leg stop. Angeal was putting enough pressure on it to hold it still and nothing else. Gens other leg started to bounce for a little while, but the shared look between Sephiroth and Angeal, over his head, meant that it didn’t take long for Genesis to be held down from both sides as the men silently implored him to focus.

It didn’t take long for him to start picking at his nail polish under the table just for something to do. His foot tapped at the floor but no satisfying sound came from it and Genesis had to stop himself from getting out of his chair to pace around the room. He was holding every muscle very tightly, trying desperately to not feel trapped by his lovers hands.

By the time the meeting finally ends and everybody is filing out, Genesis is rocking on his heels in the hall as he stands with Sephiroth while the man makes pleasant with Palmer.

Click, tak, click, tak, click, tak

Sephiroth puts a hand on Gens shoulder to make him stop. Genesis wants to scream, but instead moves away with a feigned glance at his PHS and slipping out of the conversation with a simpering “so sorry, I have recruits waiting for me in the training room.” He’s walking briskly away, the click of his heels soothing his brain as he heads to the elevator and spends a few isolated seconds bouncing on the balls of his feet and clicking his tongue like he’s calling a horse.

This is the bit he’s ashamed of. This is the bit that he can’t explain to anybody. The excess. The need to click his fingers over and over, humming old 80s tunes and making popping noises with his mouth.

He doesn’t know why he does it. Angeal always said he just had a lot of energy; one of his nanny’s had suggested he maybe had something wrong with him. He’d never been brave enough to find out.

When the elevator doors open, Gen shoots out at an impressive walking speed. He’s through the hall and into his apartment bathroom before he really registers it and he climbs into the empty bath tub with little thought as to why.

This room is echoey. He likes it like that. He likes hearing the water sounds bounce around the room and the reverberating sound his belt makes against the tiles when he undoes it.

Sometimes this room is too much. Sometimes the cave was too. He’d have days and days of trying to avoid loud noises and open rooms. Days when little sounds made him want to claw his ears off in a way that not even his beloved clicking heels could sooth. He had days where the only way he could stand to hear people talk was one at a time and in softer tones.

Today he needed more though. Today the sound was not enough and he needed the echoes to devour whatever was trying to break out of his skin.

Click, tak, click, tak, click, tak, click, tak

Snap, snap, snap snap snap, snap

Pap, snap, pap, pop, pap, snap

He’s so lost in the noise, his head back against the lip of the tub, his eyes closed, that he doesn’t realise the doors been opened. Doesn’t realise Angeal and Seph are in the room until he feels a calloused hand in his hair, and another one on his knee. This time there’s no pressure of restraint this time, just comfort, and he opens his eyes.

“Better?” Angeal smiles down at him, brushing his hair from his forehead to kiss it. Genesis hums at the contact.

“I’ll go get dinner started,” Angeal stood and Genesis let him go, looking over at Sephiroth a little sheepishly.

“Sorry,” he murmurs, “I know my clicking drives you mad.”

Seph shakes his head and quirks a lip at him, using the hand not on Gens knee to pull his hair back slightly to show Genesis his ears. In them sat a pair of small noise dampening earplugs usually used for munitions testing.

Huh. He couldn’t actually be mad at that. It felt like a good middle ground.

“I do not wish to upset you,” Seph said, clearly reading Gens face wrong. “I simply thought these would be a good compromise. This way you can click when you need to, and I am not frustrated by it.” Genesis smiled at him.

For all they bickered and challenged each other, Gen was so stupidly in love with him.

“It’s okay darling, you did good,” he places his hand on Sephiroth’s.

“Now, help me out of this thing!”

I was re-watching some scenes from KP for a new fic I'm working on, and it was a neat observation that @artpo had noticed, so I wanted to talk a little bit about my own experience with English!

One of the things that honestly made me smile when I’d watched KP the first time about a year and a half ago was the random usage of English that was sprinkled throughout the show. As someone who took extensive ESL classes back when I first returned to the US from the Philippines during my childhood, this definitely hit close to home, since I struggled with English a lot as a kid. I didn’t have much time to study it when I was in school in PH, and it was hard for me to make friends during my elementary school years.

At least from where I’m sitting, and my own experience having lived abroad, being able to speak English fluently and confidently has always been considered an outward sign of sophistication and having been educated. In the Philippines for example, English is considered the official second language, and most people can speak it easily enough in and within the suburbs of Manila. As you get further out of the big cities though and into the provinces however, it’s not as readily spoken.

I imagine in Thailand, it would be something along those lines? Bangkok is the main commercial hub in Thailand, and English acts as the language for international business and politics. In Asia in general, especially within SE Asia, to be able to speak English is to show others that you're a worldly person.

For some people who are non-native speakers of English, it would probably have been a privilege to have had the time to study it and become fluent at it, yknow?

In KP, we see Kinn, Kim, Vegas, and Macau speak English in varying degrees, so in a way, this adds yet another layer to the image of the Theerapanyakuls as this glamorous and privileged family, imo. It’s not surprising that the Theerapanyakul heirs would know how to speak English and are all probably fluent at it, if only because they have extensive business connections overseas.

This actually shows up once or twice in the book too, since it’s a bit of a misunderstanding between Kinn and Porsche during their adventure in the woods, lol:

But yeah, just something I thought that was really cool to see play out in KP, and how BOC really played up on just exactly how the Theerapanyakul family’s wealth and privilege has influenced them in different ways.

How many hornbill species are in the Philippines? There are 10*!

They are named after their horn-shaped bills, typically with a casque on top.

7 of the 10 PH hornbills are threatened*, and two of them are among the most endangered hornbills in the world. One of them is the Dulungan :(

Philippine scripts featured here are Tagbanwa, Hanunoo, Badlit, and Baybayin. Local names are from JC Gonzalez's "Enumerating the Ethno-ornithological importance of Philippine hornbills", published in 2011.

Which hornbills live on your island, and what is being done to protect them, their habitat, and the natural resources you share with them?

The province of Antique in Panay declared August as Dulungan Month since 2020. Support organizations such as PhilinCon and the Haribon Foundation to help conserve Dulungan and the forests we share with them. Dulungan is known internationally as the Rufous-headed Hornbill (𝘙𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘥𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘪).

I actually did experience the same thing as yours and I am really sorry you had to go through that. But mine was a lot different because it happened mostly online, I don't know how to put it but yeah. I was sent photos, videos, we made calls, she made me do things and have it sent to her online, I experienced it with my teacher in 7th grade; my Mom found out when we were about to migrate in Japan. We went to court once before I flew here and I actually forgot everything about it. But when I was in 10th grade evrything crashed back to me, I strted getting scared going to school also bullies here in Japan are worst. so I decided to work, I stopped studying.

Last year christmsd we flew back to the ph and the first news I got when I stepped in our van was I have to be attend a hearing because their side knew we were going back in home. I nver thought that the case was still on going after how many years. She even messaged me to show up in hearing, that she's sorry, she's building a family now and is 2 months pregnant and that at some point we have to put an end to it she said

But you know what? Nothing happened, I lost. My Mom couldn't pay the lawyer anymore and I had to go back here in Japan before the hearing could actually happen. I was so devastated, I only wanted her license to be revoked so she couldn't teach anymore. And ivee heard a lot of casesone from my friend back there in ph that if the teacher was caught or like reported harassing a student their license wouldn't be taken from them instead the school would just kick them out (it can be taken if the school are doing their job but gues what? Its Philippines. The system is fucked up, the justice is nowhere to be found if you lay under the lowest hierarchy). And funny thing my friend said, after they were kicked out they would always settle in the provinces there in PH, which I found very accurate because I found out that she moved in a suburban province in ph, i yhink its pampanga.

I could still remember how I lied being sick one sunday afternoon, my family are going to church that time so they left me to rest but I sneaked out and went to her place.

And also, the pandemic made much more worst. I started questioning everything, everything I receive and everything I feel. I remember saying, 'I love you' to her and the fact that when I went to the first hearing to find that I couldn't hate her. My cousins were explaining to me that it was wrong, she did something bad to me, but to me it was right it felt right. I never understood how court hearing lawyers works before but when I saw her I knew she has been crying, I could still remember her eyes fuck her look tht time it was the worst state of hers that I had ever seen and I knew from then that I want it to stop so I pleaded for my Mom not to go through the case and flying to Japan made me think that everything was finally over she wouldn't suffer anymore and so do I.

I even tried messaging one last time using the new account my Mom made me which she also had accessed that time, I risked it all but I never found her account it was already deleted i think

I never went to therapy, my Mom never sent me to one and I actually don't know if it'll help. But my friends in ph asked me to go to one and i also been working so i am considering it for a while and ive been also foing sh lately iwant yo go back yo school but my family back in ph eont let me.

I don't know why am I sharing this to you im actually crying while writing this. Because you know what? Until now, I still couldn't figure it out. Half of me still thinks that that was love and it's msking me sick that i was glad we werent able to bring everything back again in the court i fuvking hate it.

I don't know maybe i just wanted to find out your story, how your story went how you overcame everything. The freedom i would never feel.

I font know how this works i wish i could really talk to you.

#DOH reports 120 new cases today November 3, bringing the total nationwide caseload to 4,120,411 cases. ⬇️

NCR accounted for 35% (42) of the country's cases while 78 (65%) of the day's cases are in the provinces.

In the NCR, twelve LGUs had low digits cases while five LGUs had Zero COVID: Mandaluyong, Marikina, Malabon, Navotas and Pateros.

Outside the NCR, all provinces had low single digit cases or ZERO COVID.

Zero COVID deaths today. The total death toll remains at 66,736.

The active cases decreased to 2,792 from 2,816 active cases earlier this week. ⬇️

The national positivity rate slightly increased to 5.5% up from 5.3% earlier in the week.⬆️

The healthcare utilization rate remains at low risk.

jing yuan/fu xuan from hsr, set during the propaganda movement!!!! i've actually already posted a snippet of this already

it's. admittedly crazy. the characters are from a chinese game set in a xianxia type of world, but i read ranichi's wonderful sherlock propaganda movement fic (isang suri sa escarlata, tagalog for a study in scarlet) and realized: hey!!! i can do that too!!!!

couple in the fact that we're currently learning this topic in history and boy was i absolutely ready to go hehe

the propaganda movement is basically what we call the political efforts of filipinos during the late 19th century, where they were circulating "propaganda" to bring awareness to all the problems the filipinos experienced as a peoples colonized by spain. a big portion of its proponents were ilustrados, basically middle to upper class filipinos who went to europe to get educated and brought back these notions of liberalism and nationalism. the propaganda movement had several goals but the main one was for the philippines to be recognized as a province of spain and for the filipinos to be granted the rights of a citizen — the movement calling for complete independence would be a little later!

"but poppy," everyone is secretly wondering, "how the fuck did you put chinese people in a filipino nationalist movement"

the chinese routinely immigrated into the philippines over the centuries, and a sizable portion would also stay and intermarry with local women! our (unofficial) national hero himself, jose rizal, was ⅛? chinese i think!

so i made jing yuan a mestizo de sangley who's currently in europe with the rest of the propagandists! but then i thought to myself, idk, i kinda don't want to also do that to fu xuan. and then i remembered!! chinese people were STILL coming to the ph to do business or to come settle, like it's not just a one-time thing. so i made her a newer immigrant hehe

this is where my advantage as filipino chinese kicks in, because a HUGE portion of chinese immigrants, then and now, come from the province of fujian. the heritage language would be hokkien for a lot of people including jingfu WHICH IS GREAT BECAUSE I CAN SPEAK IT 💥 (sort of. hashtag diaspora struggles) 💥

soooo. i think that's kinda it HAHAHA but yeah while i was (and am still) researching things for this au i discovered i actually, really really really enjoy reading up on this stuff 😭 especially learning about the chinese presence in the philippines bc even tho im relatively "newer" (around early 20th century i think) it's still something to see how your culture has impacted and continues to impact the country you live in hehe. like do you guys know tagalog also has many hokkien influences!! and some filipino/spanish sounding surnames like lacson, tuazon, etc are actually derived from hokkien words!!!! its very cool long story shirt hehe

I’m writing this while in a Grab on the way home from the airport.

I took the midday PR flight to MNL today. I usually arrive at PPS ~30mins before check-in counters close because queueing usually is inexistent. In most days, 5-10 mins lang and you’ll be at the pre-departure terminal. But today, because of the putanginang city-wide blackout in PPS, it took me about an hour. To the point that PA is already announcing boarding. Yes. Boarding na, nasa check-in counter pa rin ako together with like ~25 more travelers, mostly Chinese and European tourists. In the end, they were able to accommodate and check everybody in.

It all winds up with one cause and it’s corruption. If the PH properly liquidates our taxes and puts ‘em to good use, say additional power plants or alternative sources of power enough to sustain our cities, e ‘di sana walang problema. But that’s not the case. Our government is too busy spending millions for an inauguration or renaming a street or a government building or probably redesigning a departmental logo/crest. Or too busy organizing a local Ms. Gay or Ms. (insert town or province here) for everyone’s entertainment. ‘Yan ang priority for them.

Minsan gusto ko na lang din talaga umalis.

I have to say this, but your mom is one of those stuck in the cult mindset. Leni has been VP for years and she's active on the ground, just check her political history (on official sources too!). Her contributions have reached an international scale, she's the one balancing our Du30's disrespect towards our foreign allies.

I live in Iloilo and we're often struck by typhoons. Remember when I had a week break last year because of the typhoon? Yeah. Every year, we struggle with little to no media attention when disasters happen. VP Leni was one of the first to actively use her platform for us. She sent people and aid before the typhoon even arrived.

Believe me when I say she's active. As someone from the province, it's incredible how she reaches out to us immediately.

I know it's scary to debate with family, I've had a few who taunted and threatened me as well (takes every bit of my patience to have a healthy discourse 🥲) but this isn't just my future, but for the victims of the past as well. I'm inspired by the sons and daughters of politicians who spoke up against incompetent ruling. Take it slow with your mom, I want to believe that there's good in everyone and that they only need to be informed to make better choices.

It makes me wonder, just how obsessed are they with a dictator's son to the point that they aren't even aware of his own campaigns and activities? He's been in congress for years now, only co-signing typical bills under the names of other politicians. I do hope you can make your mom see reason– not just for your sake, but as someone who loves my family members, I want them to be aware of their choices and morals // sobbing
