hiii im a new-ish phannie and from what I've gathered dan's brother is kind of a taboo topic? can I ask why? I genuinely don't want to start any drama im just a little bit confused and curious

no you're fine! basically when dan started getting really popular adrian was about 13/14 (people knew dan had a brother bc he had talked about him/posted pics with him online in the early days) but then fans found adrian's social media accounts and it all went downhill very fast

his tumblr was overrun with anons asking about dan, if dan was gay/phan was real. people would send him vile posts/death threats/ comparing him to dan, even sending him incest fics (keep in mind this was a 14 year old kid)

some younger fans latched onto him because he unfortunately did look like a carbon copy of dan but age appropriate for them. people posted his pics all over tumblr thirsting over him and trying to get him to notice them. (i won't post the pics here but they and a lot of the old posts are still all over google) but basically just...think about the 2013 phandom stereotype...and then imagine they found out there was a 15 year old who looked exactly like teenage dan who was accessible to them.

anyway adrian's responses were (understandably) pretty angry and he eventually deleted all his social media accounts and basically did not exist online until his 20s. dan addressed it a little bit ("fuck off and don't be a stalker") but basically for years after adrian was just something you Did Not Mention ever (which probably was for the best tbh)

dan mentioned him again a couple times in 2018 for the first time in years but no one really dared speak his name again until he started making youtube videos a few years ago. anyway now he's a vegan lifestyle influencer

i think what he's getting at is he doesn't want to elaborate on his and phil's relationship because, and he's said this several times actually, he wants to be able to fuck shit up in his personal life without everyone knowing about it and having an opinion. as in, i think one of the main reasons dnp aren't fully open about that aspect of their lives is that if they have problems or god forbid break up then suddenly it's everybody's business. we as phannies have a tendency to idealise their relationship a lot, which yeah of course we do when we for the most part only see the good bits, and it kinda adds this extra pressure on them of like.. if it all goes to hell, or even if they just have a longer period of maybe not being on perfect terms, it's not just them being affected it's also thousands of really annoying people on the internet. and i think they look at this from both their own and our perspective, as in on one hand they're worried about it because for them that sucks like imagine going through some personal shit and everyone's picking up on it and going oh my god did you break up etc etc, but at the same time they also don't want to upset us either. like it's truly kind of a parents/children thing there lmao in that they know a lot of us would be genuinely emotionally affected by that and so it's ultimately a better option for everyone involved to keep it a little ambiguous

all this being said they are Dying to share it is so funny to watch them go back and forth between not wanting to divulge too much and wanting to scream it from the rooftops

i think the main difference between pre-coming out phandom and post-coming out phandom is just the need to prove anything about dnp. before phannies would fight tooth and nail to prove dnp were gay and dating (and although not exactly maliciously, it was definitely harmful to dnp who were factually closeted) and now people, who never gave 2 fucks about dnp but knew how to shit-talk phannies, are the ones going like "ok but are they...? 👀" and phannies will usually say something like "oh well 🤷‍♀️" or maybe will even explain "they did buy and design a house together if that helps" but without that need to formalize or label anything? sometimes even joking about their relationship not being romantic nor platonic but "a third worse thing"? and for some people maybe it's because it doesn't matter, or maybe for others the answer is too obvious but maybe in general it's more like. idk. we've been here for a while on this corner of the internet, feel free to join us and figure it out yourself.

no its crazy that dan confirmed his relationship with phil in his coming out video and people still question it or leave it up to interpretation that they may have broken up since then and they're really just friends because they have never jointly addressed it in present tense. he speaks about them forming their "romantic" (direct quote) relationship in past tense because the ENTIRE video is past tense. the whole thing. he came out, he addressed it, and they don't talk about it in any real way or address it directly because they are the smartest couple of all time and they want to maintain their privacy, they literally wrote the BOOK on letting us into their dynamic and their life (enough to make enough people obsessed with them as a duo that they sold out more than one world tour) while also being extremely private and safeguarding the things that actually mean something to them. and btw when i say people being obsessed with them as a duo we all know i mean obsessed with them as a couple, or at the time obsessed with theorizing and mapping out their history as A COUPLE not just a COUPLE OF JOKESTERS. anyway if you think that dan and phil are exes who then built a house together after 10 years of living together you're delusional luv<3 to the point of homophobia. its clear as day, he said it, and they never addressed it in a serious way again bc they want you to leave them alone.....leave dan and phil alone!!!! i actually think they are living their best lives and no one could do it like them ever again in history unless they were taking a page out of the dan and phil book period!!! apologies i thought i was out and then they brought dapg back and i was helpless to the way it pulled me right back in like the ocean under the moon (a la grammy award winning 1999 hit smooth by santana featuring rob thomas of matchbox twenty) also i stopped taking my vyvanse for months because it had no effect and now i think i need a lower dose and also so sorry to be a phannie on main but statistically it WILL happen again!!! dissertations should actually be written and i would love to discuss cause its actually crazy and im not talking about you 2014 phannies im talking about you 2017->coming out phannies because we know.....it may not be the golden age everyone talks about when they watched dan and phil but it WAS the golden age and i think one day it will be written about extensively in sociology texts....perhaps by me even though i have a never-once-used IT degree and instead run a restaurant...yay.
