i've just realized that, between the crown and house of the dragon, we now have two shows where part of the drama revolves around a character played by matt smith who is deeply misogynistic and toxic and also has a profound complex about the fact that he's seen as lesser and a nonentity in politics when compared to his wife who is widely regarded as the main authority as well as the national sovereign, and of those two characters, the one who handles it better is prince fucking philip
and also both of them cope with this by cheating on their wives, but again prince philip is the better option because his cheating is with other adults and not teenagers

Oh yeah, I have no idea if anyone will see and relate to this but yesterday (or the day before since it's past midnight rn) I blazed through Tiph's floor and the remaining two sections of the Ensemble, and the reception of the Black Silence, and can I say it was a rollercoaster of emotions?
And then the two choices I had to make??? Holy shit I ended up picking both the green options and now I've hit another wall against Wrist Cutter and like??? I have no words. This game is great. I'll stop playing for a month because of the difficulty, return, and immediately get captivated. Xiao, Oswald, fucking Eileen, and this. Why are difficult games so fun?
And why is Library of Ruina's story so fucking goood?

Propaganda
Irene Papas (Tribute to a Bad Man, Electra, Zorba the Greek)—"From the opening shot of Michael Cacoyannis's Electra, as the proud, implacable face emerges from encroaching shadows, it becomes impossible to imagine anyone else as Euripides's heroine. Erect, immutably dignified, dark eyes burning fiercely beneath heavy black brows, Irene Papas visibly embodies the sublimity of classical Greece, tragic yet serene." -Philip Kemp (film critic) Also she's a a badass.
Vivien Leigh (Gone with the Wind, A Streetcar Named Desire)—Leigh is exceptionally beautiful. To quote Garson Kanin, Leigh was "a stunner whose ravishing beauty often tended to obscure her staggering achievements as an actress. Great beauties are infrequently great actresses—simply because they don't need to be. Vivien was different; ambitious, persevering, serious, often inspired." She was an actor's actor, one of those big old-school theatre dames, full of drama and temper.
This is round 3 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Irene Papas:
Tumblr media
An amazing actress and singer, some may say a literal Greek goddess. Fought against military dictatorship in her home country and had an affair with Marlon Brando.
Tumblr media
She literally played Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world in Greek mythology, what more could you want
Tumblr media
Vivien Leigh propaganda:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I submit this gifset--help she is so beautiful and tragic"
"Extremely versatile, absolutely beautiful features and a wonderful resting bitch face if needed."
"She has such a range of character types that she could fit any favorite type of woman. And have you seen her in the Red Dress? with her cocked eyebrow???"
Tumblr media
[Linked GwtW gifset]
"She played one of the most famously unlikable characters in cinema history and knocked it out of the park."
Tumblr media
"Vivien Leigh vs every established and wannabe actress on Earth- grand slam winner for Scarlett O'Hara and won the oscar. Ultimate power couple with hottie finalist Laurence Olivier. I am just on my knees for that arched eyebrow and smouldering look."
Tumblr media
"She’s just mmm the PASSION behind her performances is palpable, she’s so beautiful and elegant and amazing and yeah"
"look at her. im a gay man and im in love with her"

My God I love your depiction of the Wittebane brother ❤️
Do you think there might have been a chance that your Pip wouldn't kill his brother when Calec goes to Demon Realm? He seems way more tolerable of weirdness and is actually curious about the taboo things. That it makes me wonder if other steps were taken by people around him, maybe he would make different choices and not turned into a brother-killing genocide goop man. Obviously, the blame is still his for what he did, but I can't stop wondering what if.
And him getting along with Evelyn instead of hating her right of the bat is really cute.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you! :D <333
He grew up with this theatrical bisexual of a brother. Pretty sure the reason Belos didn't give a hoot on the Boiling Isles about queer stuff is because he kinda knew, and accepted, that Caleb was kinda queer. In some cases, people can ignore or bend certain rules for people they love. Even disregard them or pretend they don't apply or exist.
(long rant about writing and narrative foils and blah blah under the cut)
Unlike Caleb, I think Philip is the sort that only picks-and-chooses whatever rules he feels will supports his personal wants/thoughts and tosses the rest.
Caleb was not hiding it as well as he thought he did. lol.
I think that, sure, there was probably a turning point for Philip.
And absolutely, people around him influenced him. He's just a kid, a vulnerable one at that, in a protestant Christian cult.
I kinda like to think of it as a corruption arc. Mostly because it seems (to me) that the whole reason Luz was meant to have a depression-arc and Philip getting all "YoUrE JuSt LiKe Me!" thing was because.. There was supposed, I think, to be similar beginnings for them.
But Luz, in season 3, got depressed and felt a lot of guilt, so her arc is going from this happy-go-lucky kid interested in different things, to a depression arc where she questions herself. While Philip has a corruption arc, where he gradually goes from a well-meaning kid interested in different things, to evil and delusional.
I am also combining Luz, King, and the Collector into Kid-Philip's themes.
King is fascinating as a pre-narrative foil for kid-Philip. I think. As King was very clingy to Luz and didn't want her to leave, he too had a delusion about his own importance (disregard that it was kinda true in the end there). King tried to dictate (in that book episode) about what his and Luz' book should be about, how it should go, and it really hurt Luz' feelings. In the end, they solved it. But as a narrative foil, I think for the Wittebanes, they probably had a similar struggle on a larger scale, and it didn't get resolved.
The Collector, too! They're desperate to be close with someone, anyone, who gets them and wants to play on their terms. Kinda like Belos wanting him and Caleb to be witch hunters. Not accounting that Caleb is his own person outside of him-- Which, if you think about it, Caleb made his whole life (in my version anyway) about taking care of Philip. So I'm sure Philip felt like he really was Caleb's entire world. And then suddenly he wasn't. Because of a witch. The Collector, despite having this incredible power (just like Pip having his brilliant brain) is still a child and using their power in selfish ways. Not intentionally, I think, just out of a fear of abandonment or isolation.
I personally am in favour of nobody-is-born-evil-but-anyone-can-become-evil kinda thing.
I would like to explore how Philip gets corrupted.
I am slowly influencing Philip in my fanfic with little things that will, eventually, boil down to not so great moments.
The thing about delusions is that the person truly believes in it. Philip believing he's a hero has to make sense and feel believable.
Belos is a jerk. Philip isn't, yet. He becomes that jerk. But I don't want to write a sociopath. I also don't like using less-favourable mental illnesses as an "easy way out" to write why Philip became Belos and a genocidal maniac.
I have strong feelings about de-stigmatizing mental illnesses in writing, without romanticizing them or leaving out the really awful and less discussed sides of it. This includes diagnoses within all the clusters of the DSM5. I will not sit here and say I only support a diagnosis like Autism or GAD, and not things like Histrionic or Borderline.
And including people with MH issues and personality disorders is important, too, as well as not trying to downplay them.
People throw around Belos with things like Narcissism and Psychopath, without actually understanding what those means or what the different types there are. For example, is he a grandiose, oblivious or a fragile narcissist?
Yes, these disorders are looked down upon. A lot of people who have them aren't very nice people. But that doesn't mean they're evil or have no heart.
Lots of children can display early signs of these, and in a rough time like the colonial 1630s of America, it is not unthinkable that those rough times bred some dysfunctional people. I'm sure Philip has his own slices of pie as far as mental health goes, just like Caleb and many other struggling people.
But, I will not write from an angle that implies Philip just has darkness from the start in him.
There's a reason why I had Caleb go on a rant about being born evil in chapter 5. Because puritans, and Christians alike, at the time - truly did believe bastards were just... Half people. Did you know that if an orphanage found out a baby was a bastard, they wouldn't let it suckle the nursery goat's udders. Because they were afraid it would soil the milk and, in turn, might give the non-bastard babies bad influence. Somehow.
With that kind of logic in your culture, it's no rocket science that people would put nonsense together and think it made sense.
I'm much more interested in how puritanism and witch hunting culture influenced and corrupted Philip into becoming who he became, and why he refuses to budge on his beliefs to the point of murder.
As the owl house, the show, has commentary on systems influencing cultures in a bad and positive way. But in particular, the one Belos tries to influence the Demon Realm with; being a not-so-great way. So! With that as a clue: what made Philip turn bad, most likely, was partially the puritanism and its extremist ways. I think TOH is also a bit of a nudge at the HAYS-code of Hollywood and how it has trickled into most all the American culture-core. As it's both trickled into schools, morality, politics and other things outside cinema.
Just pointing at him and going "He's a sociopath because he became a genocidal tyrant" is, to me, cheap. Not only does it further stigmatising mental illnesses by implying only a disorder can make someone do such evil things. But it also disregards the most horrific truth of all; that the true monsters are people not at all unlike yourself. And that they, too, were children once.

One thing this episode really lingered on is just how much The Owl House is a story about stories -- fandom, and stories told within stories, and breaking the mold to write your own, new one, and history as a narrative and parallels to the past, but also not being beholden to repeat them.
It's Luz stumbling into a magical world and deciding to stay because of the stories she loves. It's Eda telling her there are no chosen ones there, but stories turning out to having real power even when chosen ones don't. It's Luz and Amity having their first real bonding moment in a library, battling a book that came to life. It's Azura bringing them together. It's Luz learning about Philip Wittebane first through the false, polished, carefully curated story he wrote about himself in his diary. It's Eda telling Luz and King the story of how she met Raine before they're ever able to meet them. It's the repeating cycle of grimwalkers, constructed to play roles in a story they were never privy to. It's Caleb only ever being shown through glimpses and snatches of the narrative that swallowed him up, but being present all the same. It's Gus and Hunter stumbling upon Camila's old favorite series and connecting to it the same way she did (and then some). It's the constant meta jokes about various books the characters love mirroring the show. It's the kids on a haunted hayride being told about the Wittebane brothers like they're a ghost story, except they know they were real -- and who the real monster was.
It's meeting your girlfriend because of fandom. It's the book series your dad gifted to you just before he died that brought you much-needed comfort at the time, and so much more in the future. It's looking deep inside and saying "Stories help me be the person I want to be" and "You want me to repeat the way this happened in the past, but I refuse" and "Stories help us remember those who are gone."
It's Luz finally stepping back into the Demon Realm dressed as Azura, the character that lead her there in the first place, at the end of the beginning of the end of the show's own story.
It's about how stories can save your life.

THURSDAY HERO: Princess Alice
Amazing story! Princess Alice was an unconventional royal who prioritized helping others over wealth and privilege. She devoted her life to good deeds and spiritual growth, and was notable among European royalty for taking Jews into her home during the Holocaust.
Princess Alice stood out for another reason: she was deaf from birth.
Born in 1885 at Windsor Castle, Alice was the great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria. She learned to lip read at a young age, and could speak several languages. Alice was widely regarded as the most beautiful princess in Europe.
At age 17, Alice fell in love with dashing Prince Andrew of Greece and they were married in 1903. Alice and Andrew had four daughters and a son. Their son Philip would later be married to Queen Elizabeth II. Alice communicated with her children mainly in sign language.
Political turmoil in Greece forced the royal family into exile. They settled in a sleepy suburb of Paris, where Alice threw herself into charitable work helping Greek refugees. Her husband left her for a life of gambling and debauchery in Monte Carlo.
Relying on the charity of wealthy relatives, Alice found strength in her Greek Orthodox faith. She became increasingly religious, and believed that she was receiving divine messages and had healing powers. She yearned to share her faith and mystical experiences with others, but instead was dismissed as mentally unhinged.
Alice had a nervous breakdown in 1930. She was committed against her will to a mental institution in Switzerland, with a dubious diagnosis of schizophrenia. Alice did not even get a chance to say goodbye to her children. Her youngest, 9 year old Philip, returned from a picnic to find his mother gone.
Alice tried desperately to leave the asylum, but was kept prisoner in Switzerland for 2 1/2 years. During that time, her beloved son Philip was sent to live with relatives, and her four daughters married German princes. Alice was not allowed to attend any of their weddings.
Finally, in 1932, Alice was released. She became a wanderer, traveling through Europe by herself, staying with relatives or at bed & breakfast inns. In 1935, Alice returned to Greece, where she lived alone in a modest two bedroom apartment and worked with the poor.
The Germans occupied Athens in April 1941. Alice devoted herself to relieving the tremendous suffering in her country. She worked for the Red Cross, organizing soup kitchens and creating shelters for orphaned children. Alice also started a nursing service to provide health care to the poorest Athenians.
In 1943, the Germans started deporting the Jews of Athens to concentration camps. Alice hid a Jewish widow, Rachel Cohen, and her children in her own apartment for over a year. Rachel’s late husband, Haimaki Cohen, was an advisor to King George I of Greece, and Alice considered it her solemn duty to save the remaining Cohen family.
Alice lived yards from Gestapo headquarters. When the Germans became suspicious of her and started asking questions, she used her deafness as an excuse not to answer them. Alice kept the Cohen family safe until Greece was liberated in 1944.
After the war, Alice founded her own religious order, the Christian Sisterhood of Martha and Mary, and became a nun. She built a convent and orphanage in a poverty-stricken part of Athens. Alice dressed in a nun’s habit consisting of a drab gray robe, white wimple, cord and rosary beads – but still enjoyed smoking and playing cards.
In 1967, after a Greek military coup, Alice finally returned to Great Britain. She lived at Buckingham Palace with her son Philip and daughter-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II.
Alice died in 1969. She owned no possessions, having given everything to the poor. Before she died, Alice expressed a desire to be buried at the Convent of Saint Mary Magdalene on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, but instead was laid to rest in the Royal Crypt in Windsor Castle.
In 1988, almost 20 years after she died, Alice’s dying wish was finally granted. Her remains were sent to Jerusalem, where she was buried on the Mount of Olives.
In 1994, Alice was honored by the Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem (Yad Vashem) as Righteous Among The Nations. Her son Prince Philip said of his mother’s wartime heroism, “I suspect that it never occurred to her that her action was in any way special. She was a person with a deep religious faith, and she would have considered it to be a perfectly natural human reaction to fellow beings in distress.”

Belos's use of fake personas is an interesting part of his character and I want to talk about it for a second. Belos as a persona is the feared but benevolent dictator grandpa who's religious but ultimately caring, and he takes Hunter under his wing after their family dies. This is his Boiling Isles persona, it's not who he really is. He makes deliberate choices to portray himself in this way, specifically giving Hunter the company line about how he would be dead without Belos, etc. The Curse is an extension of Belos he uses to explain why he abuses Hunter. He mainly uses The Curse to get away with harmful actions, ei trying to convince Luz that the Curse made him hurt people.
And then there's Philip as a persona, closer to the real personality of this guy but Philip is trying his best to be a wet cat. He pulls this one out when he needs to be a poor little meow meow about things and has his fake limp that goes along with this one. An extension of Philip is Kid Belos, which is pretty much the same but he's appearing as an innocent kid to try to get Luz to feel bad for him. which is. horrific.
Then there's actual Philip/Belos, who is behind all of these actions and doesn't feel bad about it. He feels like he has a greater purpose and he wants to wipe out an entire island of people because he's a religious extremist, and he attempted to kill his brother's partner, and killed his brother, because he hates people who are different from him. Hunter has always known the Belos persona, and is fully aware of how Belos uses fake personas to get away with shit with The Curse, so the use of names via Hunter and Luz is interesting. Luz struggles with what name she's going to call him because Belos specifically asks her to call him Philip, but Hunter reaffirms calling him Belos because it's mostly a power play and an attempt at separating himself from his actions to call himself Philip.

Yapping about Belos and his ending excessively while also analysing him to the best of my ability under the cut
So given how much art of him I've reblogged by now, it really shouldn't come as a surprise that Belos is my favourite character from the Owl House.
I could talk about him for HOURSS but I just want to talk about 2 of my favourite moments of him to highlight the parts of him I love the most.
Tumblr media
This moment in Hollow Mind, when he gets the key in his hand and you can see the light in his eyes. It's the only time his eyes have the distinct shine in them like every other character has all the time, and it's cause of the key he's holding. The key to the human realm is the only thing that gives him that shine cause it's the only thing he genuinely cares about. Everything he's doing is to go back home and revel in glory, which, while selfish, adds so much to his character. He's not doing this JUST for power, he became an Emperor just to tear his own creations down. I just find something extremely poetic about that.
And the second moment -
Tumblr media
THIS MOMENT. THIS MOMENT IN KING'S TIDE AJDHSJSHSJS
I'm still mad these flashbacks were never brought up in any big way cause THEY REALLY SHOULD HAVE BUT AHSKSJS I'M GETTING AHEAD OF MYSELF.
Belos reliving his worst memories was always a concept that was going to be interesting because it's an insight into what really gets into the head of our main antagonist. What does the guy who is everyone else's worst fear have to fear. And the answer is himself.
The 3 memories he sees are him approaching Caleb with the knife, the actual murder as pictured above, and the creation of the grimwalkers.
What really gets me is that his eyes are wide when he recalls the first memory, but they look smaller in the second memory (in the screenshot). Maybe it's just the angle but I always interpreted it as his expression shifting to be one of genuine sadness for this particular memory. Because the mere fact that his most personal crime is also his worst memory is such an interesting concept. How does he live with that sort of guilt and worse, keep doing those same crimes but WORSE?
All of Hollow Mind could just be here really and I wouldn't complain. It's THE episode for Belos fans that really allowed us to dig into him, and the mere fact that he's consciously scratched off Caleb from all the happy memories as if to justify his own fratricide is a level of desperate coping that I just find so very interesting ajdjhsjjs
Not to mention that his inner self is a child, which, while a pretence by him, could still say something about how in his head, he still has not grown up and is still playing pretend, still playing witch hunter with every version of Caleb he creates, still playing god to finally achieve a fantasy so very childish and so frankly basic that it makes anyone watching from the outside think "wait, that's it? That's all this is for?" AND THAT'S THE POINT
Cause none of this needed to happen. None of this has a greater value than Philip trying to chase after lost dreams. All the plans he made, all his great power and his great empire amounts to nothing because he himself plans to destroy all of it to chase that childhood dream. Just like Luz, he entered the Boiling Isles to find a home, only his home was Caleb and he was never willing to love new things in the Isles, while Luz loved so much she literally changed the lives of everyone she met by loving them. And unlike Luz, Philip never grew out of that mindset, only burying it in layers and layers of lies and half truths.
In general, his relationship with Caleb is for sure the most interesting part of his character to me. The fact that he both repeatedly murders and repeatedly creates new grimwalkers in an endless cycle and then hallucinates Caleb looking at him with disdain implies so much about his dependancy on Caleb and the deepest parts of himself that know what he's doing is wrong. The parts that have broken free from the layers and layers of cognitive dissonance and have accepted that he was wrong, without any more justifications.
And now, to 'briefly' rant about him in season 3
Thanks to Them was juicy for character exploration, but I wish we actually got to see him react to the human realm properly. It's everything he's wanted, it's the one thing that still brings light into his life but the world he returned to would absolutely hate him. He's done all this for nothing. I wanted so badly to see how he copes with his guilt then, but they were short on time so I get it.
For the Future's hallucination scene makes this even more interesting cause of the depiction of him actually seriously suffering from something like hallucinations. It was dark as hell, and it was really interesting.
And then... WaD. All in all, a great finale. The only real big problem I had with it was Belos' ending.
After so much buildup to his depth and his motivations and his guilt and all his lies slowly collapsing around him, after everything he did to so many people, he deserved a better death. I don't think he didn't deserve death, I just think it happened too quick. Where was the final cathartsis from all his victims shunning him (Luz staring was perfect don't get me wrong, but the whole Hexsquad deserved to be there). Where was the moment he would finally no longer be able to lie to himself and he would be forced to accept that he did EVERYTHING he did, made all those great sacrifices, tortured so many people, just to fail and be at his victims' mercy after accomplishing nothing?
I understand the finale was juggling many MANY characters and plotpoints, but that's not stopping me from wishing for a better ending.
I wish I had had the motivation to draw something for this like I'd hoped, but a brief description about what kind of ending I'd have wanted will have to do.
I wish Luz saw his memories in the place in between with Papa Titan. It would reinforce her arc of feeling like they come from the same place too, if she saw Caleb leaving Philip and Philip's original goal of just wanting to get his brother back. I wish Luz saw all his "sad" memories and really started to question herself.
And then I would have wanted Papa Titan to shoot that down regardless, and then explain that while Belos may have started out a victim of his circumstances as an orphaned child in a cult, the Isles gave him chances to change. Memories of Philip in the Isles seeing Caleb happy, being given chances by witches, being given so many chances to change, and rejecting them accompanying this scene would be ideal. Really hammer in that he aas responsible for his own suffering and that he has absolutely no excuse for what he did to all his victims.
And then, in the final death scene, as he claims that as humans they are better than witches one last time, I wish the ghosts of all his victims showed up to prove him wrong. Every witch and grimwalker who choose to be better than him before they fell. Every member of the Hexsquad who believed in him and his regime at one point. Every single one of them a reminder of how his lies can't even convince himself anymore.
And finally, his own brother, a fellow human, who appears before him. I imagine Caleb looking at him with pity, almost sympathy, before a quiet acceptance comes onto his face and he turns away from him. He walks towards the crowd and chooses their side, next to Evelyn. Neither Caleb nor Luz say a single word. There is nothing left to be said to him anymore. Every single person on the Isles, human or witch, has turned against him now.
If anything could break his will, I think this would be it. I imagine him phasing through his different forms, trying to find a way to justify himself in each one, gradually desolving into desparate screams, before the boiling rain melts him away like in canon (except without the stomping please).
Aaaand that's it, no more notes. Thanks so much to all the Wittebane fans in the community who have kept his fanbase fed when the show didn't meet our standards and who prompted the line of thought that led to this post.
There are so many of you all who inspired and made my fandom experience fun and created so much out of just Philip, Caleb, and Evelyn (and all your OCs of course!!) so I'm just going to shoutout the ones I remember off the top of my head -
@talisman975
@jess-the-vampire
@calebsrottingcorpse
@owlyhouse
@anona1-mous
@captainmera
@moonmeg
@azure-blaze92
@a-magpie-in-the-bi
@a-magpie-in-gravesfield
This is no particular order and I'm surely missing more so this is by no means exhaustive, but this is just a shoutout for those who kept this fandom going. Y'all are the real troopers for sure.
That's all I got, but I'm posting some old Belos art soon! Cheers all, and may the terrible awful no good goo babygirl keep inspiring us for all the great art <3

Epiphany: King and Luz are how fanon imagines Philip and Caleb
Tumblr media Tumblr media
King is clingy, and has major separation anxiety. He insists he’ll never let Luz leave him, gets anxious and upset when she does anything without him. He wants nothing more than to have her stay with him forever at all times, having assurance and full control over it. He even specifically was afraid Luz would leave him for another realm. He wasn’t just orphaned, but he lost his entire species before he was born. Luz and Eda are the only family he has.
He’s a scared little kid who just wants a family who stays with him. That’s almost exactly how I see Belos stans portray young Philip. And maybe that is indeed how Philip acted when he was King’s age.
Though, crucially, King doesn’t target Luz’s other loved ones and then kill her, only to clone her tons of times and abuse those child clones before murdering them. Because King isn’t a pathetic weirdo bitch.
King grows up. Which, he shouldn’t have had to mature so fast, because unlike Belos, he really IS just a little boy during all this. When his entire world gets shattered, TWICE, he has every reason to think only of himself and cling desperately to everything.
When he learns his entire species was killed, that he’s alone in the universe, it’s even clearer that Luz and Eda are all he has. But he chooses to open up his world and see things more widely, to pay attention and have a deeper understanding of his loved ones.
He becomes more aware of other people and their own lives, his worldview expanded outside himself. He uses that knowledge to reach out to others, like having empathy for the Collector, not condemning him. He tries to help Collie with the lessons he only learned recently.
In the end, King himself sends Luz away to another realm to protect her. All that time swearing he would never let her leave him, but he loves her more than that. He expresses his joy over her having her as a big sister, and he saves her. Because he truly loves her.
King is a CHILD. He couldn’t be faulted for acting more selfishly. It would have been reasonable of him to cling and beg Luz to protect him during King’s Tide, but he was a hero.
Belos never understood actual love like this. Caleb gave it to him, but he didn’t return it. It further emphasizes what a fucked up weirdo Philip is. He hasn’t been a child in hundreds of years. He was an adult who couldn’t learn to think beyond himself and the idealized fantasy narrative of his brother existing for him.
He thinks that any attempts for Caleb to have his own life are an insult to him, that the entire world starts and ends with Philip and his own desires. Hundreds of years and he never learned to see beyond that. He doesn’t feel joy that Caleb was his big brother. Only that he has a right to control and possess, and he will do anything to make it happen. Murder, abuse, enacting sick, petty fantasies.
He even disguises himself as a little kid and clings to Luz, hiding behind and clinging to her, tricking her into caring for him, in Hollow Mind.
Two clingy, anxious, possessive little brothers terrified to be abandoned when the world already took what should have been their family from them. One who matured greatly at only eight years old, and sacrificed everything to protect his older sibling.
And one who maintained a petty, selfish obsession for hundreds of years, colonizing a world and trying to commit genocide, while playing out a sick power fantasy of caretaking and control while screaming about what was taken from him, which was his own doing
Istg, if King wasn’t placed into the “animal companion” category as default, the fandom would have been all over the parallels. I would say “Hey Belos stans! Your cute, sweet, angsty, clingy younger sibling with abandonment issues is right here in King! Make stuff with Titanlights!” but they’d probably hear that and miss the whole damn point.

i think of school shooters the same way that id think of a spoiled child being told "no" to having their third serving of ice cream for the day it's like they figure out that life isn't fair (which literally everyone else figured out at birth + mental illnesses) in spite of their many privileges and then they fucking lose it
and as much as i think back to eric harris and how i feel bad for him on occasion, for him and dylan to grasp at straws for reasons to hate others (which is not to undermine the bullying and torment they received) is insane to me (like him getting pissed about girls not calling him back or dylan slapping his coworker because she told him off about something).
all of this and their childishness in spite of the fact that they were literally planning a massive terrorist attack (which isn't so childish) is essentially prominent in how they mention that the shooting is their fault entirely. did they just think that bbecause you say something that it automatically becomes true? i mean, e&d were going to kill themselves and it ain't possible to bring a dead person to court, so of course they'd arrest mark manes and philip duran and bring robyn to court
i just don't think eric and dylan really understood the consequences of their actions because they were so caught up in this retarded escapist fantasy where they were the heroes in tarantino films (and teenagers). i think the concept of this just makes me sad in general, since the way they behaved during and leading up to the shooting was an obvious way for them to feel powerful and in control, which had been stripped from them by that very school.
i also don't mean to undermine the horrid environment at columbine and the obvious favoritism that plagued the student body and staff. harris and klebold were incredibly mentally ill, which when is combined with a toxic environment in which you spend your developmental years and a mutually hate-filled friendship, results in tragedy.
it also hurts my heart to read anecdotes about the victims, eric and dylan included, from those who loved them. hearing about how cassie bernall struggled with suicidality, thoughts of killing her parents, and briefly experimenting with the goth subculture made me wonder if eric or dylan ever considered that others felt the same pain and troubles that they did. hearing about how devon adams had to decide on which friend's funeral to attend, one murdering the other and many more, reading about an interaction brooks had with rachel while they were smoking wherein they discussed their religious affiliations respectfully, learning about how daniel mauser would attend anti-gun protests, devon sharing how dylan saved one of rachels interpretive dances by fixing the tape, etc make me think of how intertwined littleton is (especially columbine kids) and the domino effect that it's had on the world.
so many shooters have cited e&d as inspirations, people have replicated wrath and natural selection shirts, written fics about them, plays, films, etcetera. there's online communities dedicated to colimbine, sometimes as part of a larger true crime community, where people discuss and learn about it. i myself began research approx. 2 years ago and have since developed a special interest regarding columbine. deaths, other than ones because of copycat shooters/killers such as sol pais are linked to columbine. it's had such an imnense effect on the world that cannot be understated solely because of its magnitude.
columbine was so senseless and i hate that 14 children and a beloved teacher died so that e&d could "even the score." i hope, in their final moments, that eric and dylan felt ashamed and embarrassed of what they did, the world, music, movies, their hobbies and interests they discarded, the people they left behind who've been left to pcik up the pieces of their destruction

Millie Perkins about Elvis: "He never used his star power — never. Maybe he should have."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Millie Perkins (87 years old) was born in May 12, 1936 in Passaic, New Jersey. Perkins is now retired from working in film and television besides a modelling career as well. After playing the title role in the 1959 movie "THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK", "WILD IN THE COUNTRY" (1961) was Millie Perkins's second movie. She was just about Elvis' own age when they worked together. The filming for Wild In The Country took place between November 1960 and January 1961. Millie was a 24-year-old actress and Elvis turned 26 by the time the movie principal photography was finished in January 1961. In a 1990 interview she talked a bit about her impressions on Elvis Presley while working with him in the early 60s:
"Elvis turned out to be someone I liked very much. I felt there was a man with a heart and soul there who truly cared about people. Certainly he treated me as if he cared about me; there was a mutual respect between us. But his life was on a level that my life was not on. I was married to Dean Stockwell at the time, and he was — I felt like he was drifting. The guys were on the set every day, you know, wrestling on the floor. I didn’t even know what girls he was dating at the time, because it didn’t interest me, his personal life seemed so silly. And yet I knew he was a victim of it. I felt like Philip Dunne [Wild In The Country's director] fawned all over Elvis. Elvis’ attitude was — I saw Elvis looking around that set and summing up people faster than anyone else could have, and I felt that after a short period of time he was disappointed in Philip Dunne, but he was too polite and well behaved to say anything. He tried very hard to make this film better than his other movies, and you saw him trying and asking questions. And I just believe the sad thing is that [the director] did not have the ability to help Elvis through it. I remember doing this one scene; we were sitting in the truck, and we were supposed to be driving home from a dance or going to a dance, and in the script he was supposed to break into song, turn on the radio and start singing. And to me it was like, "Yuck," I was very young, and I thought, "My sisters are going to tease me, this is so embarrassing and tasteless." You see, I was a snob, too. But — and this was the nicest thing — while we were rehearsing, finally the director walked away, and Elvis looks at me and says, "God, this is so embarrassing. Nobody would ever do this in real life. Why are they making me do this?" So there we were, both of us having to do something and we just wanted to vomit. He never used his star power — never. Maybe he should have. Maybe he did it on some other level, but he sure didn’t do it on the set. I felt like he was younger than me, this very humble person who would make statements about what he believed in. And I would think, "He’s saying that to show me he’s a fine human being." All I know is that there was a person there with a refined heart and soul, and I say refined on any level you want to look at it. When you meet someone like that, you know they’re there, even if they’re sitting there eating fifteen lollipops — that’s beside the point. That’s just what they’re doing at that time, but that’s not the essence of the person. The essence of Elvis was as fine a person as I’ve ever met; he treated me as well as anyone has ever treated me in this business."
— Millie Perkins (Betty Lee Parsons in Wild In The Country) about working with Elvis Presley. This 1990's interview excerpt was taken from the book in which it was quoted, "Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley" by Peter Guralnick (1998).

Toh spoiler
But it's like not even the fact that The Collector is a child, it is the fact that he is a child surrounded by toxic and abusive adults. Like it is not a coincidence that the three adults they interacted with this episode were all established toxic adults and people who should have never been allowed to be around children and spent all their time imposing their power over kids whether it be Terra being your classic sadistic teacher making them play her sick games and joking about 'killing'and 'poisoning' them, or Odalia who is controlling mother who saw her kids more as an investment, or Philip who literally creates grimwalkers just to kill them off. Like this is so fucked up. Like with Terra and Odalia couldnt do shit to Collector cause neither of them have any power over him and yet they still try to insult him or manipulate them, but Philip, my fucking god Philip back on his bullshit. He knows how Collector is and how to manipulate him and it is just so fucked up!!! After centuries of being alone with only Philip as company, they are finally free only for Philip coming back and starting manipulating him and you just know he was going to possess them before switching. And KCHIXUTZUTXYICHCCOYCIYGX Collector just wants to be a kid and play games and he genuinely loves King and thinks of him as his best friend but they are surrounded by The worst adults ever and i wont be surprised if the other collectors were like that.
Also the sheer contrast of this with Camila and Eda and Lilith being a genuinely loving and worried adults. Camila who is not only worried about her own kid but the physical, mental, and emotional health of every single kid in that school and just trying really hard to stay strong and that conversation with Luz VOUFIYIYFIHDIYXGUIFYF7AR. And Eda and Lilith being in absolutely hopeless situation but still trying everything they can to help King and HNNNNGGGHHHH. Someone please pluck Collector out of there and put them into the arms an actually caring parent he needs this, he deserves this.

A BIT MORE THAN FRIENDS..? PART TWO
Phillip Graves X Reader
Summary- Graves finally realizes you’re more than just a friend.
Content/ Warnings: smut
Tumblr media
You guys stayed in silence until you made it to your front porch.
“Thank you for the drive..” Taking out your keys from your pocket.
“Yeah, of course.” He says with a monotone.
Before he can say his goodbyes. You motion him to come in, he hesitates for a moment.. finally he sighs following right behind you.
You can’t help but laugh under your breath. You decide to quickly make a move into your bedroom dragging him along by his hand. You sit on the edge of your bed, he hovers over you. He just looks down at you conflicted on what to do.
"Baby..." He murmurs softly as he leans down and captures your lips in a deep, passionate kiss. His tongue slides into your mouth, exploring every inch of it. "I've missed this so much." This wasn’t the first time you two shared a kiss, but it had been a while considering his long deployment.
You pull him down even more by wrapping your arms around his neck, now on the bed himself still hovering on top of you. His heart races as he feels your arms wrap around his neck, pulling him down onto the bed with you. His rough hands explore your body hungrily, seeking out sensitive spots that only he knows about. "Fuck, I love it when you take control."
Your hands linger down the nape of his neck into his shirt, Tugging at his collar a clear signal for him to take it off, without hesitation, he pulls off his shirt and tosses it to the side, exploring every inch of his skin you can feel his lips brushing against your neck and his teeth grazing your skin. It sends shivers down your spine, causing you to moan softly ."Please, baby." murmuring into your ear as he kisses and nips at your neck, his touch sending shivers down your spine. "I need you so much."
Making his way down your body, kissing and biting down, moving side to side stopping right at your waist, your pants were still on, he looks up at you.
“Fuck... you're so beautiful." He whispers as he looks up at you, his hands moving to grip your hips, undoing the bottoms of your jeans, lowering them, taking them off completely. Holding you in place. His tongue traces the line of your panties before slipping inside to trace over your sensitive folds.
You moan out, your legs hanging off the edge of the bed, on his knees in front of you the sensation of his tongue causes your legs to jerk slightly. Your hands struggling to find their place, you grip onto your sheets.
Feeling your body react to his touch, Phillip smiles against your skin, his tongue dancing faster
"Fuck yes, baby." He groans, his hands gripping your thighs firmly, holding you open for him as he continues to tease your sensitive folds with his tongue, occasionally flicking it against your clit. testing your arousal.
Moving your grip down onto his hair, directing his tongue. He groans as you grip his hair, pulling him deeper into you. He thrusts his tongue against your clit, using it to tease and drive you wild with pleasure. "You taste so good."
As you moan and writhe beneath him, Graves feels the familiar rush of power and possession wash over him. His hands slip up your thighs, leaving trails of goosebumps.
His rough hands slide up your body, cupping your breasts through your shirt. His mouth leaves a trail of butterfly kisses across your stomach, and he pulls down the hem of your shirt, revealing your black lace bra. His fingers slide under the soft fabric, teasing and playing with your nipples, causing you to squirm in pleasure.
His other hand slides between your legs, his fingers finding their way to your clit once more. He starts to rub against it, harder this time, his rough fingertips teasing and driving you wild with pleasure.
“Fuck me- Philip-“ Barely managing to word out a scentence, moaning between words.
You feel his hard dick against your lower stomach, teasing you. "You want it?" his fingers continue to rub against your sensitive nub. "Tell me you want it."
Unable to speak, you nod yes, your eyes pleading to him.
His fingers leave a trail of sensation as they slowly trace up your legs, trailing kisses along your inner thighs. He stands up, removing his hands from between your legs. "Turn around," he commands. You do exactly as he asks, turning over with his assistance.
Once you're facing away from him, he grabs your hips firmly, his rough hands contrasting sharply with your soft skin. Good girl," he praises, his eyes roaming over your exposed body. He kneels behind you, tracing the small of your back with his rough hands. "Spread your legs for me," he orders.
His praise drove you wild, so you did exactly as he asked without a second of hesitation.
You feel his hot breath on your neck as he leans in close. "You're mine," he growls, his tongue tracing the line of your spine. "And I'm going to fuck you senseless."
“I thought we were just friends-“ You spat out mildly annoyed yet relieved.
"Fuck being friends," he groans, his fingers digging into your hips as he roughly thrusts his hips forward, pushing his tip against your entrance. "You're mine, and I'll make sure everyone knows it."
You scoffed, which was quickly interrupted by a sudden moan from the pleasure of his hold on you, he pushed you closer to him.
"Fuck, you're so responsive," his hips thrusting against you. "I can't help but want you more." His fingers dig into your hips harder, leaving marks as he continued.
You gasped out as he pushed deeper inside of you, feeling him stretching you more than you ever thought possible. His hips slamming against yours in a primal rhythm that sent waves of pleasure coursing through your body.
“c’mon on back- c’mon on baby- fuuuck”
You cry out in pleasure as he continues to thrust inside of you, pushing against your orgasm. His hips pistoning against yours, his dick slamming against your walls inside of you, fucking you senseless.
"Breathe baby, I've got you." He whispered to you as he continued to drive his dick cock inside of you, hitting that perfect spot with every thrust. His hips began to buck wildly as his orgasm approached, throbbing inside of you.
Feeling the intense pleasure coursing through him, he finally let go, his body shuddering violently as he came deep inside of you. His cock pulsed, filling you, his rough cries mixing with your moans.
As his orgasm subsided, leaving him breathless, he finally pulled out of you. He leaned down, his rough hands gripping your hips tighter, his body still connected to yours. He kissed your neck softly, breathing heavily. "Fuck,” He collapsed against you, holding you close to him as he tried to catch his breath.
“So fuck being friends huh? When did you decide that.” You asked, not caring if it was the most appropriate time to ask, you wanted to hear him say what he wanted. Did he truly see you as more than just friends.. Did that mean he wanted to make you official?
His breath hitched at your question, his eyes darkening as he looked into yours. "I've always seen you as more than just a friend," he growled, his tone laced with jealousy.
"But tonight...Tonight, I couldn't deny it anymore. I wanted you. I needed you. And fuck the consequences." He leaned down, his lips meeting yours in a rough, demanding kiss that left no doubt about his feelings or intentions.
Pulling back slightly, he bit your bottom lips. "You make me lose control," he muttered, his hands gripping your hips tighter. "But I wouldn't have it any other way with you."
You said nothing but kissed him back, then turning over and calling it a night.

Domestic December: COD
Day 8: Gifts, Graves
DD Masterlist
Tumblr media
When Graves was a little boy he secretly played with his sister’s dolls. To this day you are the only one he’s ever admitted that to, that was also the only time he’s ever done weed but that’s not important.
Now, as an adult, he’s replaced that doll and her dresses for you and a whole new world of clothes to pick from.
You noticed his gifting habit very quickly into your relationship. He was the kind of guy who paid for dinner and asked for a bottle to go with it. Do you want dessert? Go ahead and take a look at the menu. That flower sure does look pretty. Without another thought it’s in your hand.
As things got more serious Graves started to do the same with his gifts. Bracelets and necklaces in hard boxes pop open he gets home. Makeup, still in packaging, sits on your bathroom counter. Dresses, blouses, and pants are passed to you with an ‘what do you think?’ As if Graves hadn’t already bought it.
“This is way too much, Philip,” You’d say, staring down at the earrings that glittered back.
“Not for you, Darlin’, never for you.” He says, emphasizing the accent.
Being the leader of a para-military group comes with a pretty decent wage. You didn’t have an exact number to go off of, but it was enough to afford the house, that truck, and name brand shoes worth more than a month’s grocery trip.
It’s easy to feel like there’s an imbalance of power between you. He was the one making the serious money, fighting the bad guys, and coming home a hero. It’s easy to feel like you were nothing but a warm body for Graves to come to. That you were just his live-in bang-maid who could give nothing but be on his arm.
Neither of you would say it to eachother but the feeling was mutual. Graves knows that you have a life outside the one with him. You had your own friends, own job, and your own world that didn’t involve him as the main concern. This concern of what you could do without him was how these gifts found their way into your hands.
It’s hard to see a simple thank you as enough. So you added a bit more of flavor to your gratefulness: That was why you wore the gifts with nothing else to match. Matching his gleeful smile with a similar grin, both of you desperate to show just how much you wanted eachother. Gifts or no.
