We know from Hesiod that Styx is the oldest daughter of Okeanos, but are we ever told anything else about the birth order of the Okeanides in other sources? We are, by Kallimachos who says: „Neda, eldest of the nymphs who then were about [Rhea's] bed, earliest birth after Styx and Philyra.” (Kallimachos, Hymn 1. To Zeus)
So it is agreed that Styx is the eldest, followed, in this account at least, by Philyra (consort of Kronos) and Neda (nurse of Zeus). These two names don't appear in Hesiod's catalogue of daughters of Okeanos and Tethys, but Hesiod himself says that there are 3000 Okeanides out of which he only mentions around 40. And I suppose it is also possible (if unlikely) for them to be daughters of Okeanos by someone other than Tethys

@theprodigalgenius sure thing :))
once upon a time, Lil Kro-Kro was bored of his marriage, and got himself a side-chick Philyra (who was also his niece -- she was an oceanid)... now one day, Rhea happened to walk in on her husband and his lover in the act, and Kro got such a bad scare that instinctively he turned into a horse (normal reaction) and galloped away from the scene... but Philyra was not so lucky; Kro had such perfect timing with his transformation that, a couple of months later, Philyra gave birth to a son who was half-god, half-horse... but, you probably know Kronos' bastard son better as Chiron, the wisest of the centaurs and tutor of heroes :))))))))

Rhea and Philyra
(Rhea is the earthly-colored one pointing an accusative finger at Philyra (brightly salmon-colored one in brown covers) nervously sweating at a pissed off Mother Goddesss)
I picked a salmon cause they are known for giving birth to their young and dying. Also I wanted some of the nymphs to be actual fishes cause it’s fun, so why not lol?
Rhea is threatening/warning Philyra about Kronos and how he cares not for her. Deeming Philyra possible traitor trying to overthrow her (Rhea).
Surprise, surprise Philyra isn’t, she’s just in love with Kronos and was kind of a gossip/info reporter for him. (Philyra has more of a role here in this than compared to her OG counterpart, I start to daydream and I end up with a whole vague storyline for them, anything in general lol)
She gives birth to Chiron and two other egg thingys, (Chiron was also a egg baby but he hatched kind of early so yeah, also the other two is Aphros and Dolops)
Kronos actually does care somewhat about Philyra albeit not to the equal mutual aspect like Philyra did but still he turns her into a linden tree.
On the right middle/bottom side you can vaguely see two horses running and a salmon with three eggs a bit farther behind
Thats all I think ???? I can’t remember the description from my instagram post so hopefully I didn’t miss something
Posting when nobody here >:D
(Lowkey miss the GM designs and stuff I have but my brain is rotting for another as of late so another time perhaps.)

Chiron & wounds ASTROLOGY
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Babes is back!
What is Chiron in Greek Mythology?
Credited source.
Chiron, in Greek mythology, one of the Centaurs, the son of the Titan Cronus and Philyra, an Oceanid or sea nymph. Chiron lived at the foot of Mount Pelion in Thessaly. Unlike other Centaurs, who were violent and savage, he was famous for his wisdom and knowledge of medicine.
Chiron astrological explanation:
The asteroid represents the strength of vulnerability, healing wounds (of trauma sometimes), what were given to you from generations before you/ancestors.
Chiron is the strongest in Saturn & Uranus and said to be it’s ruler metaphorically since asteroids do not have an official ruler.
Astrology can point out some things that are possibly relevant to you. Please do not blame it on the placement or anything as such. Astrology is not what, but how. Use this for your advantage and 110% seek help and support if needed.
Chiron in Aries/1st house/1, 13, 25*
You may have been raised to be independent / or have superiors project such quality onto you. You are longing for justice. When going into wounds then there can be a feeling of having an unimportant purpose & uselessness. There is a chance of an unfortunate event in sports has happened on a mental/psychological level that can be hurting you.
Chiron in Taurus/2nd house/2, 14, 26*
You may have an insecurity for your soft side and struggle to either let out feminine energy or even have trouble with things surrounding your voice.(Either for an example struggling to let out your mind for others.)
There can be an insecurity for material possessions like insecure about your house. There will be a fear of losing things surrounding vocal abilities, vulnerability & material possessions.
Chiron in Gemini/3rd house/3, 15, 27*
The feeling of being unintelligent and poorly communicated is the stepping stone. There can come a feeling of being different from others which means you are not meant to fit in, but stand out and shine. It is not an embarrassing thing and should be embraced and used to your advantage. Since gemini is the sign of communication there is a possibility for social anxiety or due to moving to a different country there could he a language barrier troubling you.
Chiron in Cancer/4th house/4, 16, 28*
There is a possibility that you have uncleared connections with a family member/superior or more troubling you, even possibly would that be on a subconscious level that needs to be worked out. You may have a feeling of being unloveable or abandoned in the family. You can feel like you don’t receive as much care as some other members and it can upset and hurt you. This can highly affect self esteem mentally and psychologically and cause emotional pain and feeling of emptiness.
Chiron in Leo/5th house/5, 17, 29*
This placement can make you feel like others don’t see you as an individual and more of a “background” character. Like you may feel like you are not noticed that much. This can show any type of performance anxiety. You can feel unnoticed and ignored mostly. This can show an insecurity about some talent that should be used by you to your advantage and it’s important to find a right kind of social circle for your own good.
Chiron in Virgo/6th house/6, 18*
There can come an unpleasant feeling of being unclean, incompletement, unorganized and it relates to self-worth. You may have an intendancy of trying to “fix” yourself, but it 11/10 times just backfires until you realized you really cannot and that’s okay and normal.
Chiron in Libra/7th house/7, 19*
You seek for close and true relationships of any kind, but mostly have failed in that. You may spend time trying to find things that can complete you. You may feel inept and unsuccessful at communication and that can also create insecurity leading to even more difficulties creating the relationships.
Chiron in Scorpio/8th house/8, 20*
There can be an uncleared or an unpleasant relationship with a deceased individual that you may feel guilt over. You can be really terrified of change and transformations. Risk taking is also a not so relevant theme for you and may sometimes relate to earlier memories with bad causes around such topics that have kept you from doing it yourself.
Chiron in Sagittarius/9th house/9, 21*
There may be a traumatic experience from or just not having an interest in overseas travel. You’ve felt a disconnect in religion and feel like it’s not something for you and feel that it is or has been kept you from some things that you value. You can be very skeptical and non believing of spiritual practices. This can also mean an existential crisis since of finding no point in such themes including higher studies and see that it’s not something for you.
Chiron In Capricorn/10th house/10, 22*
In it’s home.
Can cause anxiety of financial gains. There is an desperate need for achievement. There can come a feeling of being unheard, unrecognized in non beneficial situations. This placement is good since once in a while you will be reminded of your wound and it pushes you to work on it and get it in harmony. You constantly have a need and strategically think of every situation and how beneficial it can be and is for you.
Chiron in Aquarius/11th house/11, 23*
In it’s home.
This can show that you might’ve been raised on a screen or an electronic item has been a part of your childhood. It can show an insecurity in the technological stuff like not knowing how to do something on a computer. This placement can show a struggle of finding what you like and your purpose since it’s something different from the usual. There can also be a possibility of not wanting to show your face on the internet.
Chiron in Pisces/12th house/12, 24*
You don’t like to be alone with yourself in solitude. There can be anxiety surrounding being left out. There can come a feeling of “life is unfair”, but only to realize (when healed) that every individual is on their own path and they do not align with each other. Due to not enjoying your own company and other factors can result in emotional disconnect. You crave the universe/any religion god you believe in approval and as such and when being rejected can cause the person to shut down.

Since all the Oceanids in Genshin are named after real Oceanids from Greek myth, here are some of my favorite Oceanid names that I think could’ve been Furina’s name before she became the god Focalors:
Adrasteia: goddess of “inevitable fate,” representing “pressing necessity” and the inescapability of punishment. scarily on the nose for Furina’s story.
Beroe: mentioned in Virgil’s Georgics as the sister of Clio—“Clio and Beroe her sister, daughters of Ocean both, both arrayed in gold, and both in dappled hides.” Technically all the Oceanids are sisters but I like that Beroe is specifically mentioned alongside Clio, the namesake of the fictional Oceanid whose story mirrors Furina’s.
Calypso: means “she who conceals” or “like the hidden tide”
Ceto: means “sea monster” or “whale”—I like the irony of this being Furina’s Oceanid name when the prophecy is caused by a giant whale monster
Clymene: means “fame”
Eurynome: means “wanderer” or “ruler”
Galaxaura: means “calm” or “the charmer” or “like the refreshing coolness of a shady stream”
Iache: means “cry” or “shout” or “shriek”
Peitho: means “persuasion” or “winning eloquence”
Perse/Persa/Perseide/Persea/Perseis: means “destroyer”
Phaeno: means “appear” or “reveal” or “shine”; I really like the idea of Furina’s Oceanid name starting with F/Ph like her other names.
Philyra: means “linden-tree,” which is a kind of tree found in Fontaine. This tree has symbolic significance in many cultures, even being associated jurisprudence/justice in Germanic cultures. And for some big delusion, in the medieval poem Nibelungenlied—one of the inspirations for Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen, from which the Dragon Sovereign King Nibelung’s name is likely derived—the hero Siegfried gains invulnerability by bathing in dragon blood, but a single linden leaf sticks to him in the process, creating his sole point of invulnerability. A fitting name for the former Oceanid who has a reincarnated Dragon Sovereign with a very big soft spot for her.
Theia: means “divine”
Urania: means “heavenly”; this is actually used in game as the name of the “Hateful Oceanid” enemy we fought during the Legend of the Vagabond Sword event, so in truth it probably can’t be Furina’s name. What makes it intriguing to me is the location on Erinnyes called Loch Urania, which is no doubt named after the Oceanid Urania, whoever she is.

I wonder what Kronos might have been thinking when he got Philyra pregnant. Unlike Zeus, who would only need to worry about specific children born from specific mothers, Kronos seems to indiscriminately see all of his children as a threat, or at least all of his sons since there are some more uncommon accounts where he only tries to dispose of his male offspring. So one would think that he really wouldn't have any inclinations to sleep around. But then, according to Hyginus, Kronos slept with Philyra when he was looking for Zeus. So could it be that his reasoning was something like "Well, that damned child has escaped me, so if I am doomed I might just as well have some fun."? I guess such profound and serious ponderings will forever have to remain inconclusive.

Chiron
Chiron (also spelt Cheiron) is a wise centaur (half-man, half-horse) in Greek mythology, who was a friend and tutor to many legendary Greek heroes, including Achilles and Jason. Chiron's parentage differed from the rest of the centaurs, as he was the child of the Titan Cronus and the Oceanid Philyra, which made him immortal.

Herakles 2: Chiron the tutor
Entering into adolescence, Heracles finds trouble in Thebes when he kills his music tutor, Linus, in a fit of rage. The boy’s foster father, Amphitryon, sends him into the countryside to herd cattle and be tutored by the brilliant mentor Chiron the centaur, who trains the boy in military strategy, medicine, archery, and athletics.
While herding in the foothills one day, Heracles is visited by two divine beings, Vice and Virtue. Vice tempts the boy to abandon his morals and live a life of wealth, pleasure, and decadence. While virtue pleads with him to stay true to his ethics and follow honorable, heroic pursuits. After hearing the arguments, Heracles sides with Virtue.
Chiron (Ky-ron) is the offspring of the titan Cronus (disguised as a horse) and the sea nymph Philyra, (making Chiron half-brother to Zeus) unlike the wild race of centaurs who were born from ixion and the cloud nymph Nephele. In contrast, Chiron is most wise and civilized, and is depicted as a full human figure with the back half of a horse.
Upon the slopes of Mount Pelion, Chiron mentors such famous heroes as Asclepius (god of healing) Achilles and Jason (of the Argonauts). Chiron met a tragic end, when later in life, he and Heracles fight other centaurs, and Heracles accidently shoots Chiron with a poisoned tip arrow. Being immortal, Chiron suffered greatly, until Zeus took pity on him, ending his life and placing him in the night sky as the constellation Centaurus.
The episode relating Vice and virtue comes from philosopher and historian, Xenophon’s Memorabilia, and is commonly referred to as Heracles at the crossroads. In the work, the character Socrates relates the tale of two large statured women approaching Alcides. The first, Vice, is described as aggressive and manipulative, and offers gratifications of physical senses, and a life of ease. While Virtue, described as dignified and comely, argues for moderation, and achievement in glory and honor through sacrifice and struggle.
Thanks for looking and reading! and thanks for sharing and re-hashtagging my artwork lovely tumblr folks! xoxo

All the basics of Greek myth
The gods/godesses their roles, ther relationship etc etc
Okay. So first of all we all know about the 12 Olympians, i.e., Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Artemis, Apollo, Ares, Athena, Aphrodite, Hermes. Hephaestus and either Hestia or Dionysus, plus Hades.
Now before these Olympians there were the Titans, which included Kronos, Rhea, Oceanus, Coeus, Japetos, Crius, Hyperion, Theia, Themis, Tethys, Phoebe, and Mnemosyne, all of whom came from the Primordials, Ouranos and Gaia.
Along with them the other primordial gods included Khaos, Tartarus, Erebus, Eros, Nyx, Aether, Hemera, Pontus and Ourea.
Now this is an extremely brief explanation of these three generations of deities. I’mma get into a little more detail into their relations by whipping out Hesiod’s Theogony/the Greek Creation Myth (cuz his version is considered the standard creation myth for this pantheon till date), which sums about everything up pretty well actually so… Kudos to our fellar.
So according to this myth, in the very beginning, there was only chaos, from which we get the personified and deified version of it called Khaos. But soon after Gaia, Eros and Tartarus pop up, and then Khaos creates two more deities, namely Erebus and Nyx, who then, together, proceed to create Hemera and Aether, while Gaia creates Ouranos to partner up with, and they both, again together, whip out
The male titans, namely Kronos, Coeus, Japetus, Crius and Hyperion.
The female titans, namely Rhea, Themis, Tethys, Phoebe and Mnemosyne.
Three cyclopses, namely Brontes, Steropes and Arges.
Three Hekatonchieres (monstrous giants of immense strength and power, each having fifty heads and a hundred arms), namely Briareos, Kottos and Gyges.
Now all of these three sets of kids have one common thing, hating on Ouranos, for some reason that gets later uncovered. The reason is mostly him kidnapping his monstrous-looking kids and hiding them in secret places under the Earth (which, here, is Gaia).
Gaia got sick of this shit and produced a sickle out of adamant and asked her kids to teach Ouranos a lesson, but among these kids, only Kronos stood up to do it and so he did. Hid inside Gaia and when Ouranos came to lay with his wife, his lil kid popped up and castrated him, his two little thingies falling into the ocean, leading it to foam, and from that foam was born our beloved Aphrodite. Sensational. From his blood arose the Erinyes (chthonic goddesses of vengeance), the Giants and the Meliai (nymphs of the ash tree).
Now Kronos had full control over the cosmos from Ouranos, and was producing kids (i.e., Hestia, Poseidon, Demeter, Hera and Hades. Zeus wasn’t born yet) with Rhea. But his dad and Gaia had prophesized that one of his own kids would overthrow him, and from there we get the famous Kronos-swallowing-his-kids myth. And ofc, Zeus gets saved from the swallowing thingy with the help of his mom and grandparents, and then raised in seclusion in a cave below Mount Aigaion in the city of Lyktos of Crete. Also Kronos doesn’t know about this cuz Rhea wrapped up a huge stone in baby’s clothes and gave it to him saying it was the last kid, aka, Zeus.
(Chiron is also one of Kronos’s kids, and hence Zeus’s half-brother, paternally cuz Kronos once turned himself into a horse to mate with the Oceanid nymph, and one of the daughters of Oceanus and Tethys, Philyra, who mated with him in the usual human-nymph form, and hence we get him as a centaur.)
After Zeus grew up fully, he forced Kronos (Gaia did something to help with this, like give him some kinda poison secretly to make him puke his kids out-) to release his siblings. He then released the Cyclopses (who were still trapped with the Hekatonchieres btw), and then gave him his signature thunderbolt. This is when the great war called the Titanomachy happened between the Titans and Zeus and his siblings, over the control of the cosmos. This war went on for years, and in the 10th year, Zeus even released the Hekatoncheires, who also helped him overthrow the titans. Zeus threw his thunderbolt at the previous generation of gods, hence defeating them and throwing them into Tartarus, thus ending the war.
There was another threat to him tho, and it was Typhon, son of Gaia and Tartarus. But Zeus defeated him too and threw him into Tartarus as well.
Then my mans got elected as the king of gods (as he should), and had his first wife Metis. But after knowing that he had the same fate as Kronos, i.e., a son of Metis would overthrow him, he swallowed his wife (while she was pregnant with Athena, and hence later on we see Zeus HIMSELF giving birth to a fully-grown Athena from his mind) and that’s how he ended the cycle of succession. Smart move but I need justice for Metis >:<
Now for the new generation of Olympians, i.e., Artemis, Apollo, Ares, Hermes, Dionysus and Hephaestus (also let’s add Persephone too), here’s how it goes. (Athena and Aphrodite were already covered above)
Apollo and Artemis were twin kids of Zeus’s 6th wife, Leto, who was the daughter of Coeus and Phoebe.
Persephone was born from the union of Zeus and Demeter. (there are other versions to this myth too)
Dionysus was born from the union of Zeus and Semele (a mortal woman), but he was again stitched to Zeus’s thigh to save him from Hera, who was deadlocked in killing him (cuz ofc Zeus cheated on her with another woman), and later births Dio himself. (there are other versions to this myth as well. For example, another myth says he was born from the union of Zeus and Persephone.)
Hermes was born from the union of Zeus and Maia (Atlas’s* daughter)
Ares, Hebe and Eileithyia were born from Zeus and Hera.
(*Atlas was one of the kids of Japetos and Clymene, who’s an Oceanid, and hence one of the daughters of Oceanus and Tethys.)
Now I haven’t mention what these deities are the gods of, because even though they are known for maybe one of two things they govern over (like Athena for wisdom and war, or Apollo for sun and music), their designations are actually pretty broad, and this post is long enough so ykw I’mma ask you to check out theoi.com and the theogony section of Wikipedia for further info :)
Thanks for the ask I had fun writing this lmao. (Might’ve made errors or stuff so correct me in case yall spot any)
