Regret is a dish best served... phosphorescently? In truth, their curiosity didn't extend much beyond this. Really, I only have a FEW scars from the incident, and they ignore the nails... now.

Found on Saturn's moon Enceladus, the discovery raises the possibility that life could exist on the tiny frozen satellite. Compounds containing phosphorous were identified in vapor spewed out by Saturn's ocean moon Enceladus – the Solar System body with the largest ratio of liquid water by mass – by an international team led by planetary scientist Frank Postberg of the Free University of Berlin in Germany. The amounts found suggest there could be abundances more than 100 times higher than we have here on Earth. This means we have a new clue for understanding ocean worlds in the Solar System and beyond. And since phosphorus is one of the six elements considered critically crucial for life based on water and organic chemistry, its discovery significantly raises the prospects for life on Enceladus. "Phosphorus is an element essential for planetary habitability, but to date, it has not been detected in an ocean beyond Earth. Previous geochemical modeling suggested that phosphate might be scarce in the ocean of Enceladus and other icy ocean worlds," the researchers write in their paper.

We saw this image of white phosphorus bombs exploding over Gaza circulating around the internet today with claims that this happened today. We decided to reverse image search it and discovered that it was actually taken by Mohammad Salem from Reuters on January 8th, 2009.
These were dropped during a 22-day assault on the Gaza Strip in the end of 2008 leading into 2009. The 22-day assault killed about 1400 Palestinians and injured about 5000 more. This has been happening for decades. decades.

WHAT IF. blood of the Earth ≈ oil. therefore the Greek gods’ ichor was composed of a high concentration of crude oil?? THE GODS BLEED BLACK???? Maybe translations got a bit weird with a prophecy mentioning something about “oil / ichor (for containing oil) being worth as much as gold” in the future. And over time stories eventually mentioned that ichor looked like gold? If this was the case, ichor would of course have other stuff in it. Maybe White Phosphorus would be fun just because magic. white ichor that glows sickly green in the dark and is also toxic! ichor being toxic is mentioned several times in myths!!! this gets WILDER when you think about the Byzantines’ Greek fire also “setting the water on fire”. KIND OF LIKE HOW OIL DOES. (The implications of Greek fire containing the Gods’ blood is WILD. Like what happened for the gods to give them their blood for a weapon?? Did the gods do so to protect their country and nation? Did commanders strike a deal with their old gods of the land to protect their current one? Also super metal.) ALSO GODS’ BLOOD BEING FLAMMABLE. AOAUGHGAUGH. the image of two gods fighting badly, covered in deep black gashes and surrounded by pools and spills of viscous oil. Being injured and heavily coughing up spurts of the stuff. This could also work for gods’ eyes turning black when angry (crude oil?) but also maybe being white (white phosphorus)???? MAGIC LOGIC GO WITH IT

Sodium 11 (Na) - Don't put it in water. Do put it with some chlorine on your chips. Tasty.
vs
Phosphorus 15 (P) - Good in fertilizer, most widely known for being in matchsticks. Some forms will burn real fast and without any provocation.

Phosphorus and Hesperus, 1881 - oil on canvas.
— Evelyn De Morgan (England, 1855–1919)

Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) created a solar cell with a record 39.5% efficiency under 1-sun global illumination. This is the highest efficiency solar cell of any type, measured using standard 1-sun conditions.
"The new cell is more efficient and has a simpler design that may be useful for a variety of new applications, such as highly area-constrained applications or low-radiation space applications," said Myles Steiner, a senior scientist in NREL's High-Efficiency Crystalline Photovoltaics (PV) Group and principal investigator on the project. He worked alongside NREL colleagues Ryan France, John Geisz, Tao Song, Waldo Olavarria, Michelle Young, and Alan Kibbler.
Details of the development are outlined in the paper "Triple-junction solar cells with 39.5% terrestrial and 34.2% space efficiency enabled by thick quantum well superlattices," which appears in the May issue of the journal Joule.
NREL scientists previously set a record in 2020 with a 39.2% efficient six-junction solar cell using III-V materials.

Phosphorus is an essential ingredient in thousands of products, including herbicides, lithium-ion batteries, and even soft drinks. Most of this phosphorus comes from an energy-intensive process that contributes significantly to global carbon emissions.
In an effort to reduce that carbon footprint, MIT chemists have devised an alternative way to generate white phosphorus, a critical intermediate in the manufacture of those phosphorus-containing products. Their approach, which uses electricity to speed up a key chemical reaction, could reduce the carbon emissions of the process by half or even more, the researchers say.
"White phosphorus is currently an indispensable intermediate, and our process dramatically reduces the carbon footprint of converting phosphate to white phosphorus," says Yogesh Surendranath, an associate professor of chemistry at MIT and the senior author of the study.

(I’m not able to use photos again, but I just wanted to rant about something interesting)
Yk, I’ve been studying theology, demonology and angelology for quite some time now. And I like watching/reading different media’s depiction on how demons look, or more specifically, the devil/Lucifer.
(And honestly, out of all depictions I’ve seen, the closest one that looks almost perfectly accurate to how most people portray him physically would be cuphead or good omens)
However, I was reading about Lucifer, and there was one thing that really stuck out to me.
In Rome, he’s not shown as a figure of evil, but a star.
His Roman name is Phosphorus, a son of the goddess and personification of the dawn, aurora. (Or in Greece, Eos) him and aurora’s job was to announce the arrival of the personification of the sun, Helios. Aurora had a horse drawn carriage that she would use to announce Helios’ arrival.
His name, Lucifer, and Phosphorus, translate to “light bringer” or “morning star” and, like the goddess Aphrodite, was a god of the planet Venus.
Venus is the brightest star in the sky. It’s the first star you see at sunset, and the last one you see in the morning.
He had a brother, Hesperus, who was the personification of the evening star. Who was also the god of the planet Venus. Some say they were the same person, some say they were half brothers, with one having a human father.
Phosphorus had many other siblings. The 4 winds, and the goddess of innocence, justice and personification of the stars.
I learned about this a week or so ago and I’ve been so excited about it because it’s so exciting to see a different point of view. From the most terrifying being that ever roamed the earth, as a being, beautiful enough to outshine every star in the sky.
