in Ilvermorny it is actually very common to perform wandless magic. so in year 3 i learned it, but it came more naturally to me because celestial magic (eternal magic) is performed better wandless.

the relationship with other eternals

i am an orphan lol but i was raised by phastos and most of the time the other eternals visited. i have a brother and soon to be scripted in relative/best friend @gaiaexploreslife *wink*

my powers are the same with my mom’s (the goddess of reality) so i kind of just spawn & destroy shit and make power fields etc. my magic is the most flexible among other eternals due to the learnable nature of wizard’s magic, so i can sometimes copy their powers (making weapons like thena, power blasts like kingo etc.) but my powers are more intuitive than an average wizard’s, example: even if i was unconscious my powers will still protect me untill i 100% ran out of energy. my power will prioritize my body even if i was unaware.

some abilities i can do with my magic: teleportation through time & space, reality wrapping, reality creation, reality destruction, healing powers (more like turning back time) reality travel, high intuition, power blasts, wizard spells, runes, creation of shields & weapons, extrrme strength in my eternal form & telekinesis

Rozeline used to be a social child until a certain incident left her closed off from mingling with others who aren’t in her family. On the surface, she is a stone-faced genius with skills that would no doubt have her scouted in various industries.

But to those she is close with, she is actually a bit of a dork who gets enthusiastic with her topic of interest. Also, she gets a bit bashful once she was told she was rambling once again.

Rozeline is known for possessing photographic memory that allows her to remember almost any incident which can be fortunate or unfortunate in her case. She can recall even the smallest of details which is impressive but this also means that any unpleasant memory doesn’t disappear.

She has an appreciation for the genre of horror and psychological thrillers, she learned to get over her fears and she enjoys the attention to detail to make the genre horrifying. Rozeline practiced art to make several pieces that depicted horror parallel to her imagination. Her father is proud of her talents but feels unnerved with the artworks hanging in the dark hallway of their house.

Apparently, according to Uncle Vargas, she has incredible reflexes when she’s walking while reading compared to when she isn’t. Which baffles the man a lot but he guessed that’s a hidden talent that Rozeline is known for having.

Hometown: Land of Pyroxene

Family Life

She and her father recently moved to the Land of Pyroxene, their neighbor just so happened to be Ashton Vargas. Little Rozeline met Ashton Vargas at around age 5, when she and her father moved to the neighborhood and her father wanted to give baskets filled with ham, quality cheese and wine to their neighbors. She and her father first went to Vargas’ household because he was literally next door to their house. They became family friends and Ashton became an honorary uncle to Rozeline.

As for, Rozeline’s birth mother, she passed from an illness few years after giving birth. Though Rozeline has vague memories of her mother, it was clear that her father loved his wife so much. She often gazes at pictures in the albums, asking her father what she was like.

Before the “incident”, she was just like any child, playing outside with friends and sometimes getting a bit muddy in the process. She used to be quite the energetic little girl, always wanting to play hero instead of damsel with the other children. She’s always admired the brave heroes in the stories that her father reads to her.

However, one day, one of their friends went into the forest because they lost their ball there. Rozeline followed only to find him cowering by a tree where a large wolf was prowling nearby. She remembered the stories of brave heroes and plucked up the courage to get between the wolf and the boy.

This led to her Unique Magic developing, but it looked terrifying as it appeared as a gnarly thorn beast that towered the wolf and brutally drove it off. Rozeline was then labeled as a monster due to her UM. This incident scarred her and led her to suppress her UM no matter what.

The other children ended up bullying her so much that she was homeschooled for the next few years. Fabien feels sorry for his daughter who simply had a bad timing, the other neighbors excluding Vargas would whisper how there must be something wrong with their family.

Childhood Memories

Rozeline remembers that her father made a machine that used shadow puppets to tell a story, it was a gift to her. Fabien used her favorite storybook as inspiration, Rozeline was inspired to become someone heroic like the ones in the story.

The incident of her UM developing stayed in her memory, the boy she saved called her a monster and told the other children about her. This made them socially isolate her and when she tried to politely clear up what happened at the forest, they just yelled at her and pushed her away. Causing her mental trauma that eventually made her close off herself from people.

During her time she became homeschooled, there was this tutor that her father hired that somewhat got her to distract herself from the incident. She remembered him being strict but also showing her so many new things that can be found in books. He was the only person she let her walls down for because he listened to her struggles and gave her advice. Recalling how she gave him a pocket watch she asked her father to make.

Rozeline is a 3rd Year Chateau Beastiale student and is the current dorm leader.

Rozeline is closed off for the most part, she is very professional when interacting with other students. Which earned her the image of a genius due to how she treats others professionally. She is an intellectual girl who has talent in inventing machines infused with magic as well as a skilled novelist, playwright and songwriter.

Due to her tutor’s lessons, she became skilled in the aforementioned fields to an almost prodigy scale. With the aid of her photographic memory, she is able to pinpoint details that produce high quality work in her school. There have been offers from industries that were mailed to her on occasion, but Rozeline compiles them to ponder over for later.

Rozeline slowly eased into socializing more, it started with the furniture in the dorm before she moved on to people. But there are still moments that she begins to panic, that’s when her UM starts to act up due to her strong emotions.

She likes to busy herself by making articles and documentaries on her fellow students who come from different regions. With their permission, she posts them in a blog under an anonymous identity online. She does so as a way to provide the true knowledge instead of those that are mere assumptions, also she is bummed out that not many would take notice of these amazing cultures according to her.

One thing that Rozeline is known for enjoying is eating new food she has never seen before. Her cool composure crumbles at the sight of a feast. She picked up her father’s habit of saying thanks with a gift basket, she would often give them out when she asked for help from other students. All of them were usually filled with pastries and cheeses.

She has a book series based on a certain dorm leader of Futterwacken and her ventures into angering the dark-haired maiden who has had enough of her nonsense. She was thinking of donating the books to the school library at some point.

Rozeline is a star student due to her intellect and diligence in her studies. But she is terrible at PE, when she’s trying to get over obstacles it was just impossible. However, when she’s engrossed in a book and was reading, she somehow manages to maneuver around people and objects effortlessly.

School Relationships

Rozeline is closed off but there are a few people she socializes with more, those are Evonie, Jinlong and Elu. Though her friendship with them started when she offered to record their projects and other things for them, though she also was curious about their culture.

Evonie often rants to Rozeline about Allison that the two are often seen in a room where the former is sitting on a chaise longue talking about the recent prank Allison pulled on her while the latter sits on another chair writing it all down while listening intently to Evonie ramble.

It was like a therapist dynamic with Evonie and Rozeline, though the two can also be seen trading novels. While with Allison it was like a private investigator taking notes on a target.

Jinlong often brings over antique for her to register into logbooks kept at Chateau Beastiale. She is always amazed how Jinlong always re-forged the objects that look almost impossible to fix. Rozeline also is interested in her culture and would not pass the opportunity to inquire questions about the traditions of the Valley of Clouds.

Jinlong also takes this opportunity to show her both the good and the bad side to tradition to hopefully bring this attention to the public that in turn would get notified to the authority figures back home. Rozeline often gave her a basket full of cheese and bread as thanks for her help.

Elu and Rozeline often exchange ideas on inventions, both aim to help the other in improving their engineered machines. Elu would like to gain more knowledge about how to advance her village while being eco-friendly, Rozeline’s knowledge on machines can help her out with that.

Rozeline in turn is interested to document about culture in Elu’s village, she is well-aware of how that place is hounded with businessmen. Plenty of top articles overshadow any articles about this village’s problem, Elu is hoping that Rozeline could bring some attention to her issues in exchange for her participation.

The two also are two loners in a pod, often preferring the solitude to crowded places. Elu is also gifted baskets of freshly baked French pastries whenever she came over or helped Rozeline out with commission work. The bear girl can’t forget the taste of such delicacy.

Rosia and Rozeline’s relationship is more of a mentor trying to help a withering bud blossom, though it was taking quite a bit of TLC to get there. Rosia is blunt but not brutally honest, she knows that Rozeline can do many amazing things if she can just trust in herself and her powers.

Rosia’s form is from Rozeline’s unconscious desire to finally face her past. Rozeline appreciates what her fairy does for her, she really does but her fears weigh her down like an anchor.

Palmiers

She has a sun bear named, Palmiers. Because she found her in their house one day eating the freshly made palmiers she baked for her father. Sun bears are known to be aggressive and territorial but for some reason, she has clung to Rozeline like a chick.

The bear has a rather mysterious personality, she often stares at people from afar before she retreats into her station. Sometimes Rozeline can hear her mutter about philosophical things that make sense only to a bear.

Palmiers is stationed as a guard for the dorm, though easily bribed by sweets, especially the ones she was named after. The bear often climbs onto high places with no problem at all, though this tends to startle Rozeline when she sees her bear on the ceiling or chandelier.

Sullivan

A shy Selle Francais breed who tends to hide behind his owner. Rozeline got him as a present from Vargas, the man didn’t have the need for a horse since he could easily do its job with ease, so he decided to give it to his honorary niece. Sullivan tends to get spooked a lot, even from the smallest noise and he dislikes the dark.

Rozeline mainly uses him to take a stroll whenever she feels overwhelmed at times. Sullivan can sympathize with her troubles and would nuzzle her to make her feel better.

Her unique magic is called “Beast of Thorns”. She can summon a huge, hulking monster made of thorns to aid her in fight if there was one, she can also summon it as just vines. But this was more complicated as it is connected to her emotions yet it has a bit of sentience. Rozeline does her best to suppress it no matter what.

She isn’t athletic and so mostly uses long range spells and even trap spells to gain the advantage against opponents. She can be a challenge to take out especially when she takes extra measures to make it difficult to attack her.

Fabien Maury Pierrette

Rozeline’s father who is an inventor of magical devices. He runs an antique shop that repairs old and broken items, he is quite good with fixing things. He sometimes ventures into a junkshop to purchase scrap metal to see what he can build.

He is a doting father and he loves his daughter very much, when he found out about the commotion at school that made Rozeline traumatized, he knew he can’t force her to go back so he hires a private tutor and had her homeschooled instead. He is familiar with Ashton Vargas because they’re next-door neighbors, either he or Rozeline go over to his house to deliver a basket of smoked ham and cheese, he even invites the man over for dinner during holidays.

Baptiste Gallois

Rozeline’s private tutor, he is a rather tall man with long unkempt hair up to his shoulders and his voice sounds quite raspy and deep, but he is a very excellent tutor. He used to teach at some university but he retired and now works as a part-time tutor. People are wary of his appearance and would gossip at him and his unsightly state.

He is just a frugal man who prefers to mend his old coats rather than buy new ones. A bit strict but he just wants the child to excel because he believes that knowledge is the way to assure a good future. Rozeline gave him a pocket watch when he announced that she was almost done with her studies, he takes good care of it.

The character’s name, “Rozeline” is a different approach on the usual names that have the word “rose” in it, while her last name, “Pierrette” is also a play on French words.

Rozeline becomes much more talkative when it comes to literature, playwrights and inventing. She’ll ramble on about the parts she thinks is interesting. It can either turn out to be confusing if the person doesn’t get the terms she uses or they would be impressed with her feedback.

She felt terrible for the years she spent homeschooled because she didn’t have the courage to face people. So, she tried to pay back her father by sending screenplays to local small theaters that delivered her share of the profits since the playwrights were good.

She wrote it under an anonymous identity that she still continues to use today. Her father thought she was doing a part-time job, she never told him that she was doing commissions.

The anonymous name she uses is called, “Rosethorn”. Which is ironic considering her unique magic but it fits her quite well.

The artist’s concept before sketch for Rozeline was going to be just the typical girl with a weird pet that was supposed to represent Beast. But then it was changed so that Rozeline is both Beauty and Beast.

Georg Oddner (17 October 1923 – 7 October 2007) was one of Sweden's greatest photographers from the 20th century. Oddner was a jazz musician and studying advertising in the 1940s when he first came into contact with photography through John Melin, art director at Svenska Telegrambyrån in Malmö, the largest advertising agency in Scandinavia. From there, Oddner began working a variety of advertising jobs, including industry, architecture, and clothing, as well as for SAS. In the mid-1950s Oddner traveled to California, South America, the Soviet Union, and the far east. During these travels he was able to pursue photography for his own purposes. With Sten Didrik Bellander (1921–2001), Harry Dittmar, Sven Gillsäter (1921–2001), Rune Hassner(1928–2003), Hans Malmberg and Lennart Olson (1925–2010), Hans Hammarskiöld (1925–2012), Tore Johnson, and Pål Nils Nilsson, he was a member of the professional collective Tio Fotografer ('Ten photographers') formed in 1958, and their subsequent photo agency Tiofoto. The group was influential in Swedish photography. They regularly exhibited at significant venues and the whole group was presented at the Hasselblad Centre in 1998. He predominantly used Hasselblad and Leica equipment. His favorite photographers included Henri Cartier-Bresson and Richard Avedon.

May 26 - Day 6 Gleaming / Hurt

Lyn had bypassed the press line in favor of a more direct path to the door made by flanking around the back of all the photographers — none of whom bothered to look behind them, after all, the people they were here for were more than glad to pose and chat in the view of all their lenses

She’d grown up dirt poor, but had danced in the splendor that was the Royal Ballet centuries ago, back when she had been a much younger girl. The hubbub reminded her of a show the King and Queen had formally decided to attend, meaning the rest of the Court had to as well to keep up appearances. The opulence then certainly hadn’t matched this — and this time she didn’t have to powder over her freckles.

It was funny how out of place she felt, even if she knew she looked fucking amazing. Her ivory silk dress was extremely simple, but clung to her like a second skin. The color of it highlighted the honey tones in her tanned skin, made all those freckles pop, and really accented the brightfire blaze that was her untethered tumble of copper orange hair. The off-the-shoulder and low back cut showed off the umber brown Skold Ashil designary tattoos that capped both of her shoulders, as well as the runes scarred in a line down her spine by one of the seers that spelled out blezan til megin.

That blessing of power would carry her through — even if, maybe, only the vrykul word for blessing would only be visible to most people. A demi-cape of golden feathers started at the level of her shoulder blades, with some of the longer feathers ending just at the top of her hips. A scattered few of them glimmered softly with an ethereal witchlight. Most of them were her own, but a few had come as gifts from distant Sisters.

She would always be more comfortable on the battlefield, in a surgery suite, or her quiet cabin with her young son than here, surrounded by socialites. But it was nice to experience something different and shake off the rust.

The art was all beautifully done, Vixannya was a master of her craft, and it had become a pleasant personal game to spot the muses and speak to them a little about the process. Something, certainly, to pass the time. Plus it had been a delight to run into another feathered friend, Sana, drifting around the show.

It wasn’t surprising to learn that the legendary afterparty was, in fact, just that. She felt the most at home in the Earth space, unsurprisingly, but she’d made a point to check out the others as well. Serazhen, a former patient and Tart colleague, pressed an old fashioned into her hand while she watched Ryland and his performing companions drift about in the shifting skybox. He truly seemed in his element, and she couldn’t help but smile as he pulled off a couple particularly difficult movements with expert ease.

Fire was where her breath truly caught, though.

Of course that was where Dicenne was; it only made sense. Their complications had been years ago now, and things were certainly better now between them than they had been in a long time — mostly thanks to Ash being a very charming and well behaved toddler who had only had one meltdown at a small family cookout in Ratchet.

But it still felt wrong to look for more than a few moments, even if that was technically a big part of why he was here, on stage, indulging.

So she drifted back to Earth and meandered in the familiar comforts of food, drink and dance.

How this works:

-Any Pre-Existing, "Owed"/Paid slots will get priority over these.

-No fees will be requested until at least the Sketch is complete.

-Full payment is to be sent after the sketch phase unless previously discussed.

-I am a disabled artist with chronic pain. I ask that you be conscious of this when you commission me.

-My work time might be slower, but the less pressure I’m given to get something done, the more efficiently I can work to provide you with a piece that we are both proud of.

Rune Art: 'Runes of Love'

These images show the Runes of Love. This was a deck of 25 elder futhark rune cards created by Svetlana Bakusina Art in 2007.

Svetlana Bakushina – Musician, artist, and filmmaker. Born in Siberia, Svetlana is an award winning photographer with hundreds of exhibitions in different countries including member of Union of Cinematographers of the Russian Federation and Union of Photographers of Russia. As a collaborative artist, she has worked with numerous artists most notably (the late) Henryk Baranowski, Polish theatre, opera, and film director.

Arguably, The Runes of Love perhaps provides an example of various ways that runes can be utilised as a creative platform by artists.

Initially, whilst researching rune art content for this blog, the complete set of 25 images was elusive. Subsequently, the deck (published by www.tarots.ru) was purchased from russiantimes (1594) on Ebay. The images shown here were scanned by @gifts-of-heimdall-runes. If the deck was still for sale (this post was originally drafted August 2019) the link was:

The images display a dazzling and complex display of frank sexuality and tactile sensuality - bundled with a good dose of weirdness. The sensitive content filter for this post was enacted to reflect a commitment to fully display these unique rune art images. ALRIGHT MAGIC SCHOOL TIME

so ! what the girls study:

tzuyu's a moon druid under the nature department. if you don't know what a druid is, they're basically spellcasters that tap their magic from the primal forces of nature, and as a moon druid, tzuyu mainly uses her magic to transform into beasts to fight against those that harm nature. yes she's very sweet she can turn into a hamster but she can also turn into a giant constrictor snake

chaeyoung studies evocation magic as a draconic bloodline sorcerer. yes, many fancy words. evocation magic is basically using magic to manipulate pure energy in the environment, i.e. blow shit up. as a sorcerer, her magic stems from a particular phenomena, in this case her bloodline, and manifests itself in her proclivity for pyromancy (setting shit on fire)

dahyun studies under the divination department, which is basically spells all about knowing things, past, present, and future. she's a knowledge cleric, which means her magic stems from her belief and faith in a particular god. i'd say she mostly uses a crystal ball or tarot cards to cast her spells and see things, and her magic basically gives her photographic memory or smtin idk HAHA

mina is a warlock ! this means she's struck a deal or a bargain with an otherworldly deity or creature in exchange for fabulous power. in this case, she's made a deal with a dark power (that i'll probably reveal later on) in exchange for having spells that can alter space and time. as such, she's part of the dunamancy department (credit to wildemount for coining that name) and studies chronurgy, or the manipulation of time. did i mention she's an elf? yeah she's an elf, elf mina fits perfectly imo

sana is another sorcerer, this time a runechild sorcerer (credit again to matt mercer and the new tal dorei book !) she studies under the gnomish runes department. basically she's got all these runes on her skin which she uses to make wards that can protect her and people all around her ! neato !!!

jihyo's a bit of a nerd in the department of lore. as a wizard, her magic stems from practice and study, so yeah, nerd alert. she basically has a sentient spellbook that she uses to jot down notes and spells and stuff like that (order of scribes !) she's also the dorm manager ! bc dorm manager jihyo is always my headcanon

momo's in the elven rituals department, and that's because she's a half-elf studying bladesinging (damn high ac wizards) bladesinging is basically an art form that's supposedly unique to elves. it manifests through something called the elfsong, and elves can use it to sort of "dance" with a sword. very cool ! and very momo too !!

jeongyeon's a cleric like dahyun, except instead of knowledge, her domain is death. yep, jeongyeon studies in the necromancy department. except instead of being more of a zombie type necromancer, she's more of a "i will kill you" necromancer and most of he r magic is harmful and more about killing people. did i mention she has a scythe? yeah she had a scythe

nayeon is a half-fairy bard ! bards are unique in that they draw their magic from performance and song, which fits nayeon to a tee ! she studies glamour in the department of enchantment, and basically has a silver-tongue ! also bc she's a half fairy she's super popular and basically everyone likes her

🪶 Call me Upward. I’m ancient by tumblr standards : I made my main blog (unsurprisingly named @upward - where my likes/follows come from!) in 2008.

🪶 I’m in my mid-thirties, based in the US and use she/her pronouns.

🪶 I spend a lot of time with words. As a Creative Director with a background in Copywriting, my day is spent making sure words, images and emotion play nice. Even when I’m not working on my novel or short stories.

🪶 My Copywriting experience has given me great tools for my own work, but one of my passions is helping others write and edit more effectively too!

🪶 I’m lousy with grammar though. Can’t use a comma properly to save my life, according to countless proofreaders.

🪶 I’m also a photographer! And I collect hobbies. Learning things makes my brain happy even if I don’t stick with it.

🪶 Mostly speculative fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, horror. Appalachian settings and themes play enormous roles in my work as do my characters’ relationships with the setting.

🪶 Primary WIP: The Butcher Bird

(This sounds like a shitty movie voiceover I KNOW IM SORRY)

For as long as anyone could remember, most humans looked skyward for extraterrestrial arrival. Even if they had looked in the right place, it wouldn’t have saved them. Several years after the collapse of civilization, an event known as the Landing, only a small percentage of the human population remains, learning to survive in communities cut off from technology and the rest of the world. Sadie Barton returns to the Smoky Mountains, in many ways the same unruly girl who left her daddy’s house on the lake the day she turned eighteen. But years of service in a secretive militia left deep marks, the most recent of which brings her to the struggling community of Snowbird and some old friends. Despite a brutal start to another hard winter, it’s a chance to right some wrongs, find a purpose and finally come home. Except the trees across the hills and in the hollers are lighting up with more strange runes, making it much harder for her to disappear.

I’ve had this story in my head for more than ten years, but didn’t start actively writing it until Autumn of 2021. I’m nearing the end of my first draft but I keep learning new things, meeting interesting characters and messing with what I’ve already written. Good chance it’s well over 150k words with “deleted scenes” or pieces I haven’t been able to place yet. Likely a duology and it sets up a fun universe to play in!

🪶 Additional WIPs: UPDATED 7/17

1. Unnamed Appalachian Horror Project

Co-writing an Appalachian horror anthology with a friend. Short stories that intersect. Inspired by a card from the game Inscryption.

2. Unnamed Web Series

Another joint venture that will hopefully become a web series! A slice of life comedy that explores what happens when residents of a rural mountain community have problems with their HOA (and each other).

A smattering of short stories neglected for years and years. More suspended and unfinished than in progress. But they’re there!

🪶 Etc etc: Why and What else?

I’m not really comfortable peppering most people with details about my project. I’m keeping it close (why you won’t find things like full chapters here either) and surprisingly shy about letting anyone read my work.

But I’m desperate to talk about it! What I’m learning, changes I’m making, ideas I get. What my OCs are like.

Even though I’ve been writing since I could hold a pencil (I still remember my first short story from first grade) and people even pay me to write, I have no idea how to write good novel-length fiction. I have so much to learn. I get stuck frequently. I lose focus. I battle a lot of burn out.

I try to write at least 400 words a day unless I’m having a tough burn-out day, so that’s my primary writing goal. My next one? Finish this rough draft by June 30 of 2022.

So bring on the questions and the prompts and the ideas. I’d love to read your work and ask you more about it, too!
