holy shit this year marks 10 years of this blog and moz!! i can't remember the exact date i started posting here - my archive says i have one post from november 2013 but let's disregard that - but i do remember it was around late 2014/early 2015 :)
Tumblr media
^ one of the very first moz art pieces i ever drew, for fallout week 2015!!
memories and art through the years under a read more bc it got long
2014 → baby's first rpg!! i started playing fnv on my cousin's jailbroken xbox late 2013 and finished mid 2014 and i loved every minute of it. i remember waking up at 8am and playing almost nonstop until 2am the next day haha!
i didn't play moz on my first playthrough - but i did start creating a character that would eventually become her: a shorthaired ex-boxer who punched her way through obstacles when diplomacy failed. i remember she spent a lot of time with boone. i liked him then, because he saved my ass more times than i can count. but i digress. this is draft 1 moz essentially
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2015 → this is the year that i was doing my thesis so i could graduate but i was so depressed and stressed about it that i distracted myself by replaying fnv on pc, where i played through the dlcs for the first time. i fell in love with the dlcs' oversarching story; particularly ulysses, who i became obssessed with, especially since i couldn't find any content of him at the time. in the game, i played as moz; i had most of her personality and choices down, but her backstory was still up in the air.
fun fact: this was an existing sideblog that i remade to be a fallout blog so i could look for ulysses content, and when i couldn't find any, i made some myself, featuring moz as my main courier six. originally, i didn't ship them, but eventually i ended the year as a courier/ulysses otp shipper.
this was the year i started drawing digitally - my uncle let me borrow a drawing tablet and i used an old copy of photoshop i pirated hehe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2016 → i graduated this year!! and promptly fell deeper into my depression. this was the year that it got so bad that i had to be medicated. through it all, this blog and moz and ulysses and my fandom friends were with me. and for that i am truly grateful :) this was the year i figured out how to lock transparent pixels so that i could color my lineart lol
Tumblr media
2017 → i started hammering out moz's backstory this year i think. there's a lot of sketches of her and her family in my files. i experimented with shading and backgrounds here but that experimentation was pretty short-lived
Tumblr media
2018 → i started using references seriously!!!! i did a lot of oc on oc kissing this year, featuring mostly moz and many friend ocs haha
Tumblr media
2019 → didn't draw much this year. actually this year was a blur and i can't remember much from it except from it being the year of my terrible no good bad copywriting jobs... anyway i did manage to continue my courier/ulysses brainrot and make this piece, which i'm still proud of
Tumblr media
2020 → pandemic time. i spent a lot of time asleep at home and i think this was also the year i started doing commissions?? shoutout to anyone who has ever commissioned me - thank you so much, i truly appreciate it!!
Tumblr media
2021 → i switched from my old-ass pirated photoshop to clip studio paint and never looked back. also i did a bunch of commissions for my grandmother's surgery, which failed, and i distracted myself from the sadness by drawing my ocs over and over and playing disco elysium
Tumblr media
2022 → by this year, i've got moz down pat and have started vaguely developing other ocs instead. but she's still always at the back of my mind
Tumblr media
2023 → i bought new brushes from true grit texture supply and immediately found new favorites that i started using for everything. i tentatively started incorporating background elements in some pieces!
Tumblr media
2024 → while it's still too early to say where this year will lead me art-wise, i will say that i started experimenting in realistic paint studio (which i bought in 2021, the same time as clip studio paint) a few days ago and i'm liking the results so far. we'll see!
Tumblr media
all in all, these last 10 years have been quite a ride, but i'm glad i stuck around and i'm glad you guys stuck around too!! much much love 💖💖💖

What program do you use to make your fanart? Is it on just an average ipad or is there special ones just for art? Your work looks so good! I’m wanting to try digital art but unsure where to start :)
Tumblr media
I use the Procreate app for all of my digital art! ✨
It should be available on any iPad 💗 I personally invested for my birthday this past year and I have the 12.9" M2 iPad Pro, but I'll even occasionally use my fiancé's iPad Mini and the Procreate app on there in a pinch since it's so small and portable~
The only real difference is that performance might suffer a bit, the larger an art piece is or how many layers your work has, depending on the iPad. But if you're just starting out, I probably wouldn't find that to be much of an issue!
(More rambling about digital art origins under cut ✨)
There's definitely a learning curve, especially if you're more used to drawing traditionally! It can help to still sketch traditionally (if that's what you're used to) and then upload a photo of your drawing to your tablet to work over digitally (this is personally how I started out and I used to just make little digital doodles by tracing and coloring over my traditional sketches.)
Tumblr media
A small doodle from my sketchbook that I traced and colored digitally, from around 2011-2012, I think? Uh, happy Doctor Who day today!
My very first digital art set up was actually a tiny Wacom Bamboo tablet where the drawing space probably wasn't even bigger than my hand, and a super old bootleg version of Photoshop CS2 which was already a version that was 7 years too old for the time (CS5/CS6 was the most updated version by the time I had started on digital art).
Tumblr media
Everyone else in my class had the bigger/fancier/professional-grade Wacom Intuos and I remember my professor taking one look at my baby tablet and just going like "how tf are you drawing on that" lmao.
But still! Experimenting and doing little exercises can get you a long way – I would say to approach it with similar exercises you would do as if you were learning to draw traditionally for the first time.
Shade in circles/nail down basic lighting. Gesture drawings. Random scribbles. Just things that help you get used to the feel of digital art!
Test out different textures you can achieve with one brush, then expand it to see how other different types of brushes can behave and add to the experience.
For proof that even just one brush and not the best/most updated tools can work: these are two of my first more "serious" digital art projects I did in college (with my tiny tablet and mega outdated version of Photoshop) and 99% of the rendering was just done with the "soft airbrush" brush.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But even then, we were taught to create our base sketches traditionally and upload them to the program to work over.
Then one day I decided I wanted to just be able to also do all my sketches digitally and just worked on getting used to sketching straight on my digital program. It was then that besides the all-powerful undo-redo buttons, I started to really make use of the transform/canvas flip/liquify features which I don't think I can live without now lol. (Caveat: I'm now a little too dependent on those features so I keep a traditional sketchbook to do silly doodles in occasionally to exercise my hand because sketching traditionally without the buffer of those digital tools is pretty difficult for me now lol.)
That was a little long-winded, I'm so sorry hahaha. I hope something in this rambling could be taken as somewhat helpful for starting out on digital art!! 💗

So I had a busy weekend and didn't wanna get bogged down writing because that always gives me The Executive Dysfunctions. So I got bogged down arting instead!
My OC Tegyd Lowri Humphries! She originates from Birds of a Feather, my spite-motivated fic wherein I queer the fuck out of the Potter universe and pointedly do better wherever I can than Her Despicable TERFness did when it comes to disability, nonhumans, etc. She's a Welsh half-human, half-caprid centaur, which are centaurs but goat instead of horse. So she's effectively a faun. Lives in a lil cottage in a secret village in the Bannau Brycheiniog called Pen ôl y Ddraig with her father, the caprid centaur. Her Mum comes and visits frequently, though she lives in Cardiff - it's not a broken family situation, it's just the most convenient arrangement for them. Tegyd's adventurous, and loves a good hike up a mountain. At the current point in the story I'm writing, she's in her third year at the wizard school, and a prominent member of the Nonhuman Club, with her dryad friend Blodwen, who is a crab apple tree, whom she grew up with.
Tegyd is one example of how I actually deal with the implications and consequences of my worldbuilding (looking at you, Jowling), she's an exploration of the Statute's fuckery as it affects anyone visibly nonhuman, as well as just in general, what it's like for a nonhuman to grow up in that world, though post-Kaleidoscopic Grangers (my original spite-fic, BOAF is a sequel to it, where I made Potter a blind trans girl adopted by the Grangers and had a whole heap of fun).
She's also getting migrated to an original story idea where she's a Welsh fae who's gone off to live among humans who are in that universe her special interest. Finally she doesn't have to deal with fae bullshit- oh wait, she gets the crown princess of the Seelie dropped unwittingly in her lap along with a package deal quest. But that's the Seelie Princess version, not the BOAF version - the SP version got combined with another BOAF OC, Alpin Faughn, a Welsh-Scottish lil lad with heterochromia and a penchant for sewing and embroidery.
I don't often draw, so this one was a Process™. I started off by finding a reference pose, which I then destroyed by photoshopping the goat legs, ears, and horns onto. Then I gave up for several months lmao. Then I decided to resurrect it with some art tips a friend gave me (shout out to @brewbellwizardry and later @death-munchkin who babied me through shading), starting by tracing a skeleton and general shape onto paper on my screen - 'cos one of the things that pissed me off previously was trying to use a drawing tablet, which I discovered is actually a skill. Then I began iterating, tracing over traces, general shape first which needed a little adjusting since Tegyd's canonically a bit curvier than the model. I used that as a reference for the clothes, did the tops first then the skirt, then I traced all of the components onto a master trace, which I then scanned with my printer into my computer. Did the hair on a separate piece of paper so it wasn't hell.
And then came my second ordeal of computering it. Started off by blocking out the colours, then doing outlines (which are still manky but shush I don't need to fix thoSE-) and then other details. The tartan be wonky as hell, but hey. Thanks to my friends I was able to figure out how the fuck to do shading, and voila!
And there we have her, my shoddy attempt at my funky six foot satyr lass.

I'M DRAWING NOW!
Well? Haha no. Not well.
Tumblr media
But heeey, I got this here stylus working! I didn't expect an actual Lenovo stylus - this thing is refurbished - but it seems to be one. It works good! It just needed a new battery!
I got a paperlike (ish, it's not brand name) screen protector for this because I'm going to be using a stylus a lot and I don't wanna hurt it but ohhhhh baby this thing glides like butter on the screen itself. Excellent drag. And I am wobbly as all hell without lots of drag, so that is AWESOME 🤩. Paint.net still can't straighten me out with its smoothing feature, as you can see - but GIMP can! GIMP got way different and more Photoshop like a while back, and I stopped used it because I didn't like the interface. I still don't, but I love that line smoothing so I WILL figure it out. I've also got an SVG editor to learn, Inkscape! I don't know if I'll use it often, but if it's not too difficult I'll at least use it to resize things.
So, the new computer is a Lenovo Flex 5, 14 inches, Windows 11, 16 gig of RAM! Best Buy Canada still has some at this price, which is LESS THAN I paid for my tablet with 8 gigs (admittedly, over 4 years ago). AND I had to buy the keyboard and stylus separately for that. It's four inches bigger. It feels HUGE. It's on the chunky side, because it has that cool hinge that'll let me fold it into a tent. It also has a weird French Canadian keyboard - there are SO MANY special characters on it and I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO ACTUALLY TYPE ANY OF THEM. I can't always used shift to type @ anymore. Why? I HAVE NO IDEA!
Aw, frig, my eyes are tired and the text is dancing. I'm not at the point where it gets blurry and stays like that, but I'll get there if I don't take a break. Prrrrobably don't have enough stamina to illustrate yet, but give me a while. I CAN GET STRONGER!
Typed but not proofread! I need to stop reading!

((Got photoshop moved, got discord, got spotify, got MOST of my other Tumblr blogs moved over to open accounts.. Got clip studio paint moved.. Like, the only thing I gotta do is set up my drawing tablet. I also gotta set up Steam.
I am so far loving this new laptop. The keyboard is very nice and this baby is SILENT. Even when I run photoshop it hardly makes a noise.

Hey there! Fellow scientist/hobby artist, totally know the struggle & delight of balancing both passions. I looked at your Instagram and your progress is amazing! What program do you use? What's your art journey been like? :)
Oh, this is exciting. I didn't think anyone would use the ask button but okay! Congratulations for being my first. 🎉
To answer the first question: I've always used Photoshop. When I was 8-ish, I got my computer second-hand from a cousin and it had Photoshop installed. At the time, I didn't know you had to pay for Creative Cloud, so, er, I never questioned it. Now I use my uni's educational license. Otherwise, I have Clip Studio Paint on my (Samsung) tablet when I'm out and about.
Come to think of it, my art journey began with that copy of Photoshop. Back then, I would read original fics on Wattpad and thought that it would be a good place to put my own stories. Several writers I followed made cool-looking covers using Photoshop and stock images, which I had incidentally. I bought a graphic tablet and made covers. They suck. Wrote stories. They also suck. It turns out, however, I enjoyed digital art a whole lot more than photomanipulation.
Anyways, Angel Garnev was one of the first art Youtubers I followed. Because of him, I spent a lot of time doing studies of the Asaro head and photo references. One thing he advised to beginners was not to draw babies and people with soft features because it's harder to notice the planes of the face. Was this a good advice? I don't know, but that's the reason why the early posts in my Instagram consists mainly of portraits of Henry Cavill-esque men. (I remember thinking no one liked them because cute anime girls was the trend; in reality, it was because they sucked.)
But my style and process was more directly influenced by the artist WLOP. If you asked me when I was 12 what my art goal was, I would've probably told you "I want to be WLOP." Six years later, I'm definitely not WLOP but I'm happy to report I've improved greatly. Quite excited to see where I'll be in a few more years (and I rather hope you'll stick around too).
I have discovered many artists since then: Sinix Design, Valentina Remenar, Betty Jiang, Jamie Jones - I could go on and on. I'm so glad they exist because I could not be here without them. If you ask me now what my art goal is, I would say I hope to inspire someone as all these great artists have inspired me.
Finally, the most recent turn in my journey was when I watched a Bloodborne lore video and was promptly sucked into the Soulsborne wormhole. The day I stop doing fanart for them is the day Bloodborne 2 is announced.
And here we are. Thanks for the questions!

I want to draw, but I'm such a fickle baby when it comes to which device I use. I love my ipad, but nothing hits the same as photoshop and the feel of the tilt as per my XP Pen tablet. (love of my life)
But also I just spent 8 hours at my desk and my body is dying of illness (seasonal cold and flu)

10, 14, 16, 22, and 25 for the art asks! :)
10. What’s that one thing that inspired you to make drawing your consistant hobby?
It's hard to say cause I've been drawing since I was a baby, but I definitely know that I loved art classes in school and was glad to have encouraging teachers, and I was glad that my parents were supportive of that for a hobby. I think digital art being consistent for me is when I saved up to get my very first drawing tablet, there was barely anything on the market at that point and they were all super expensive but I saved up for aaaaages and dad helped me... Acquire some adobe programs so I could draw in Photoshop (and edit in premiere!!) And I just thought it was soooo interesting trying to figure out how far I could push the program and how to make drawings look epic cause it was all digital. Once I got over the initial frustration of my art looking crappy cause skill and understanding of the program+tablet was tricky, it was game on. Back then I didn't have internet either so I couldn't look up how to use Photoshop, I just had to play around for HOURS figuring out what to do. Once that Wacom broke for good (but it lasted nearly a decade!) I asked my dad if we could split payment and get me an iPad for my bday, he ended up getting the iPad and pencil and I got all the other accessories. I'm not an apple fan at all but I love the portability and that's helped increase my habit too, cause I can draw in bed or on the couch or at my desk, and it's not as clunky as setting up my laptop and wacom
14. How has your art changed over the years?
God, so much. I don't have any of my REALLY old art from when I was a little kid, but I have some from when I first started digital art. Compared to recent years... Yeah it's a lot 🤠👍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
16. What’s the most daunting part of your process? Ex, planning, sketching, lineart, rendering etc
Depends on what I'm working on... For bigger pieces getting the right poses and composition and perspective can be huge, for others it's the rendering and especially picking the right colours. Maybe the most daunting thing for me is making sure everything looks consistent within the piece haha, I've got one that I've been working on and off for over a year so I had to redraw the base sketches to match my style changes lmao
22. When is your prime time to work on your art?
Usually in the evening or at night, when it's easiest to just sit and chill with some music or something on the TV while I draw
25. Based on your recent reference searches, what would the FBI assume about you?
That I like ladies holding guns in their knickers (and they're not even holding the guns correctly) or that I'm a huge homo (I am)

3. Hello! I love u
2. I am drawing on a hand-me-down iPad Pro with a first gen apple pen (w rubber nib bc the paper like screen protector wore down the pen). And I shelled out the $10 for Procreate app. I love it.
do not be discouraged if you can’t get a tablet! Up until wife #6 I was drawing in sketchbook, inking with liner pens, taking a pic of the drawing with my PHONE, & coloring on my pc with pirated photoshop & an 8 year old $40 Wacom tablet
3. I practice drawing things I think are cool. Bonus baby picture. Given to Fyerri by his grandparents to reassure him he won’t look goofy forever. & embarrass his mom

100 Palette Challenge // Palette #19 // Beautiful Margate
Today's palette comes from a fabric pattern designed by Constance Irving in 1918.
Tumblr media
I admit, I was super excited about the blues and decided that whatever cryptid poster I was doing next, it needed to be an ocean-dwelling cryptid. I got a few suggestions over on Inkblot, but the one that both resonated with me and fit the palette was from TheDragonAuspex, who, among others, suggested Trunko.
Trunko hails from gorgeous Margate, South Africa. Seriously, look up photos of it, the beaches are stunning and have these very cool rocky outcroppings.
Trunko is alleged to be a whale-type animal with two major distinctions: Its trunk (hence the name), and its wooly coat. After Trunko washed up on the beach, someone claimed to have spotted it from their boat on their way into the harbor, saying that they saw Trunko fighting with some orcas.
I didn't really look into the theories behind why Trunko has a trunk or hair because honestly it's pretty obvious when you see the picture(s) that it was just a whale carcass. Really, even the claim that it was "fighting" some orcas backs that up — orcas are very energetic eaters, I can believe that someone saw them chowing down and thought their dinner was still alive.
But honestly, who could resist a fuzzy whale?
The one thing I did find interesting is that when I was looking up reference photos, most of what I found was artwork, most of which depicted Trunko straight up as a whale with an elephant head.
As much fun as I had figuring out the water and the way it interacts with the rocks, and getting the fur right on Trunko? This was a motherfucker of a project. Not because drawing it was particularly hard (though I did have a time figuring out the rocks), but because I lost HOURS of work, MULTIPLE times.
First Corel crashed and I lost everything. Then Photoshop crashed my tablet and while I didn't lost the file, I did lose the palette. Then I downloaded Clip because I found out they were bullied into not pivoting to a subscription model, but I had already done like an hour of work before I realized that I had already used up my free trial last year and I wasn't allowed to save anything. "Just buy a license!" you say. I did! But I couldn't convince the version that was already downloaded on my tablet to acknowledge the license and the baby had woken up from his nap. It took me another couple of hours this afternoon to figure out that I needed to uninstall it completely and re-download it. Which was a pain in the ass! But at least now I have it.
Anyway! If there are any cryptids you think need a little more love and attention, let me know! I've got 81 more palettes left and I haven't run out of steam yet on these designing these travel posters!

The water splashes against my boots and then seeps through my trousers as I fall to my knees before her. Trembling hands come up to cup her face and trace the high arches of her cheeks, imprinting into memory what was once forgotten. (x)
So I got inspired and drew this scene from Sehnsucht by @intangiblyyourswrites because it’s a damn masterpiece. And Link’s outfit is purposefully a weird mix-match for plot-related reasons, but I won’t spoil it. Please do yourself a favor and read it!

It's been a long time coming. After the batfamily, here's my superfam doodling sheet!
This time it's not paper and ballpoint pen, it's tablet and photoshop lmao. Don't ask me where Cir-El is: I don't know enough about her, alas. As for Kara well... Okay sorry Kara, I got a whole case of the lazies around the end and boom I stopped drawing after Jon oops?
Anyway, here are my babies, the best family that never was, because DC is just a bunch of cowards and can't be arsed with making Clark a real dad to a big family.
yes I have a bone to pick with the single child Jon nuclear cookie cutter family narrative they've been feeding us *shakes fist*.
Anyway, I love them, bigger versions are under the cut.

The clock hits midnight in one minute, so it’s time for another rambling year in review! I enjoy doing this because the popular posts tend to be non-story-related, therefore less of my personal faves, and improving my artistic skills is a driving element of keeping up this blog ❤
To be honest, I barely had the time and energy to play sims this year, not least for working on En Pointe—but that forced me to slow down and really focus on making every single post something that I genuinely like! This meant several edits have never seen the holy light of tumblr.com, but this is probably the first time I can happily scroll through the year’s archive. It’s ironically been Mako’s Year, with my favourite moments being K’O-ing TS3 in their abomination toddler department with baby Mako and Chiharu + Evako finally getting together in the story (years for me but merely half a year for them haha). The first “film photo” of them as an official couple is still my fave 💕
The main things I was working on progressing in 2021 were creative concepts, editing techniques, & realistic posing (esp. hands and expressions... like tf is that sakura pose), which I happily feel I’ve made the greatest leap in thus far. I’ve officially given up on TS3′s pain-in-the-ass low-poly cc-making process, and instead began to learn how to draw proper digital illustrations, so more and more of my pictures are incorporating painted elements, such as Mako’s thotty running fit and winter coat. Hopefully, I can soon share full illustrations (I got stuck on drawing faces months ago and haven’t touched my tablet since) so he can reach his True Anime Form ✨It’s been immensely fun exploring the power of Photoshop in adding tiny details and atmospheric lighting, and I’m looking forward to more experimenting.
—  2 0 2 2
In last year’s review my creator’s resolution was to pass the halfway point of the story and progress my writing + pictures. I technically achieved the first goal by posting... three chapters... and thankfully the second. For 2022, I want to reach at least Chapter 18. I’ve figured out what’s happening for the rest of En Pointe, so I’m super excited to finally get into the heart of Eva’s story!

i was gonna draw tonight but i dropped my tablet pen and the barrel of the pen broke off and flew somewhere underneath (??) my bed (?) and now i cant find it so I’m just gonna answer asks before bed instead. just some art asks and more mentions of infinity train LOL
Tumblr media
What program and brushes do you use when making your art?
@ravki hi! part of this is in my FAQ but i’ll say it again anyways LOL: I use photoshop CC and have used photoshop for pretty much....my whole art career. I’ve dabbled in clip and paint tool sai in the past but photoshop is my true wife, we eloped away from her awful father adobe many years ago and are very happy together.
as for brushes... I should prob put this info in my FAQ too lol,... my default brush set is actually free to download here! Tho I will say I also use steve ahn’s storyboarding brush sometimes and lately i’ve been using shiyoon kim’s brushes A TON. Shiyoon’s cost a couple bucks but they’re super worth it imo
How do you choose colors?
This is kind of a difficult one to describe from scratch but hmm.... I’ll put it this way. Generally when I go into coloring or painting something I already have some colors in mind. Like for a certain piece I know I want a bright green, or a magenta, or a dark blue in certain areas. A lot of the time I know a mood I want. So I’ll start with that core color tone and build around it. I’ll use an example from a recent piece
Tumblr media
So you can see here that the first color I accessed was that bright cyan. So I start with that bright cyan and then bring in its “friends” in the form of analogous colors (shown below on the far left)
Tumblr media
greens greys etc. THEN I know I want the characters to stand out against all the blue so I start laying down warm contrasting colors for them (middle group). the mat under them is orange, skin tones are warm, ryans flannel is red etc. then to get them to work together I work more cool colors into the shadows and slightly warmer (not too warm because its a cool img overall so in this case, greener LOL) colors into highlights.
hope that makes sense? for me choosing colors is a lot about story and composition. If you know what you want to say, the mood you want to create, where you want to go, the path to get there becomes a lot clearer imo.
Have you ever considered making an art book?
I have! But I don’t think I currently have enough...original illustrations for one LOL? Not that an art book has to be all original work but if I were putting fanart in an art book...at that point I’d just make a fanzine. I’m making more original work lately though so maybe this year....? Who knows. For now, I do have a sketchbook up on gumroad. Hoping to do one of those next year too.
Any tips for keeping background drawings from getting super stiff, especially since things like interiors have a lot of straight lines?
This is a really interesting ask. Really great question that I don’t think gets asked enough - forgive me if I get a bit art school here but I drew up some examples.
First I think we have to investigate the assumption that straight lines make things stiff. That seems true on an instinctual level and certainly proves to be true very often But I don’t think its actually the straight lines themselves but the sort of arrangements and compositions they tend to dictate. Take this for instance.
Tumblr media
pretty big difference, right? there’s a couple things that make a composition feel stiff and one of the most significant is lines that are perpendicular and parallel to the frame. it feels locked in and solid, like bricks. but the moment you shift these angles even a little the composition instantly becomes more dynamic because our innate senses of weight, gravity, and directionality can sense movement.
But it’s not just diagonals let’s take this one step further
Tumblr media
when lines meet and terminate together those tangents can flatten and lock space so the best way to solve this is with overlap and complete intersection, forms continuing past or behind each other feel more layered and less like a flat mosaic... again, even in the simplest line drawings. So how do we apply this to a background?
Tumblr media
ok I drew this really fast so its potentially not the best example but I think the idea is there. This space isn’t even particularly deep, it’s basically a room, a doorway, and a hallway behind it, and we’re not seeing that much of any of those things LOL. but when you draw an environmental object like a doorway in a way that lines up with the perpendicular and parallel lines of the canvas you’re automatically flattening it and making it look rigid.
and when you create tangents with objects and characters you flatten the space around them and make it difficult to tell what is actually in front or behind or if they’re on the same plane.
GOD I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE. Anyways. avoid those things and you’ll instantly have less stiff bgs no matter what kind of bg you’re depicting.
I wanna mention however that this isn’t to say a stiff bg with flat space doesn’t have its purposes.

sometimes you want to create parallels and tangents. it can make characters feel closed in, trapped, regimented, part of a routine, etc. it’s also great for making a composition look ornamental (especially combined with symmetry).

directors like wes anderson can even use these compositional elements to make images feel uncanny or harrowing! its very versatile. I think the important thing is to just be aware of when you are making something rigid and when that’s the last thing you want to do. conscious choices.

Can you speak Tagalog?
@lemuelzero101 I can! BUT NOT VERY WELL LOL ;;; both my parents are from Visayas! but they met and had me in the states lol so I’m pretty American born and raised. We go back to visit family on occasion but not regularly. My tagalog is mostly absorbed from listening to relatives at parties lol and my parents speak bisaya at home so I’m marginally better at that. Sorry to any filipinos out there hoping I’d be better educated, I’m like a little baby...
I do love meeting and talking to other filipinos online though, I grew up in an area that was relatively diverse but the asian population was small and the filipino population basically non-existent. I was like one of maybe 2 filipino kids in my highschool of 2000.
Apart from infinity train what shows are you watching now? Have you seen jujitsu kaisen?
Man this is gonna sound so boring but I haven’t watched a lot of tv lately.  It’s not really part of my daily routine. Let’s see... I was sort of watching Amphibia, Craig of the Creek, and the new Digimon Adventure 2020 but I keep falling off watching those for one reason or another. Also there’s a lot of episodes, it doesn’t feel like something I can just binge and be done with.
The last thing I binged was Succession. I want that show and Euphoria back so bad, when I’m done forcing all my friends to watch Infinity Train im cancelling my HBO subscription until Succession and Euphoria return so they know exactly what I’m on their list for LOL.
I have not watched jujitsu kaisen but I’ve kept up with some of the sakuga news (I keep up with anime industry news and production info like x5 the amt i keep up with actual anime) for it and their compositing/editing looks dope. I’ve read the manga actually LOL or at least part of the beginning. I wasn’t super keen on the whole finger eating thing. Also to be honest I kinda feel like its the new Bleach and I never particularly cared about Bleach. Characters look nice enough tho. I wholeheartedly support jjk fans.

Thank you! Thank you @keznodzieja! <3
And thank you anons who don’t watch infinity train LOL...it’s always nice to hear when people enjoy my fanart despite not knowing the source material because it lifts a little bit of the “oh god am I being annoying???” fear off my chest. But also I think you should watch infinity train because it’s really good I have no reservations recommending it.
