Pierre Bonnard French 1867-1947 “Irises and Lilacs” 1920 Oil on canvas Photo is taken by: @robertpuffjr Pierre Bonnard was a French painter, illustrator and printmaker, known especially for the stylized decorative qualities of his paintings and his bold use of color. A founding member of the Post-Impressionist group of avant-garde painters Les Nabis, his early work was strongly influenced by the work of Paul Gauguin, as well as the prints of Hokusai and other Japanese artists. Bonnard was a leading figure in the transition from Impressionism to Modernism. He painted landscapes, urban scenes, portraits and intimate domestic scenes, where the backgrounds, colors and painting style usually took precedence over the subject. Another design from our archive: the Bonnard profile. The Nabi painters shared an interest in the decorative arts, and a number of them designed ceramics, tiles, screens and other decorative objects. Members of the Nabi group included Jozsef Rippl-Ronai, Édouard Vuillard and Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947), among others. These painters and other post-Impressionists sometimes used a reeded frame like this one, of our design, for their works. We created this much smaller variant for a group of Bonnard photographs that were exhibited in the “Pierre Bonnard Early and Late” exhibition at the Phillips Collection in 2002. This profile is painted in a hand-applied custom casein. #barkframeworks #framedesign #woodshop #woodwork #designarchive #pierrebonnard #nabi #impressionist #customframes #reededframes #nycframer #esop https://www.instagram.com/p/CeXIAicF4vx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
