eXistenZ
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I find it interesting that I ended up watching eXistenZ with my friends now of all times.
I tend towards not believing in fate so much, but when something resonates with what you feel at the moment it can be hard not to sometimes.
I used to be a lot more uncomfortable around anti-escapism/art messaging when I had more anxiety around enjoying video games. eXistenZ isn't like that for me, though. The anti-escapism elements in its themes are treated less like the point and more like a symptom of the point, one which I now find lot more disquieting: That reality is as uncertain and out of our control as the games we play.
I've been trying to follow a lot of self-help advice on self-discovery and self-improvement, and while a lot of it is helpful and sound it can also come off very contradictory when put together.
How do I distinguish, exactly, what is "me"? What parts of me are part of some truer self and what parts are just some illusion? Do I just discard everything that feels wrong or painful? Sometimes you can find deeper parts of yourself by examining painful parts of yourself, so would it be repression to discard it all? Can I know with any certainty who I am? Is this post an exercise in that, or is it just a fun thing I'm doing to get these thoughts out?
The more I allow it all to clash the more I do begin to feel much the same way Pikul ends up feeling: that we're all following our own coding and urges, trying to cobble together some sense out of it. We're only in control when we perceive ourselves in control, so how can we be certain we are?
You could always just try to play along with the randomness of it like Allegra seems to, but even that doesn't always feel right.
After all, if you just let the random number god string you along forever, you can end up in a very bad roll.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...What's scary is the idea that even maintaining some measure of control over yourself is no guarantee that you won't end up hurting others. Could any of these characters say for sure when they were going down the wrong path?
I don't know. I'd like to believe there's a part of me that wants to do better by myself, to not seriously hurt anybody. I feel like following that part of me and trying to keep running with it, so that's probably a start. Maybe part of this whole thing is just getting a handle on the controls.
And if some things are still left to chance? Well, maybe the best thing to do is to stay lucky. The odds will always be a thing, but you can have better odds with a bit of work - by knowing what is and isn't going to work out. Maybe you just gotta find the game that plays the best for you.
And perhaps, in the end, we do that by making our own games of life.
I think I'm making a good one.
Tumblr media
(Also I think I like The Fly better aesthetically but that's just a personal thing)

Wat Phanan Choeng
Wat Phanan Choeng (Thai: วัดพนัญเชิง; pronunciation) is a Buddhist temple in the city of Ayutthaya, Thailand, on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River at the south-eastern side of the confluence of the Chao Phraya and Pa Sak rivers.
History / Founding
Built in 1324, some 27 years before the city of Ayutthaya was officially founded, the temple must have been partly connected to early settlements in the area. These notably allegedly included a 200-strong refugee community from Song Dynasty China.
The large wihan, the highest building within the temple complex, houses an immense gilded 19 meter high seated Buddha from 1334 CE. This highly revered Buddha statue is called Luang Phor Toh which means huge or gigantic Buddha statue by Thais, and Sam Pao Kong (Zheng He) by Thai-Chinese. The statue is regarded as a guardian for mariners. Allegedly, prior to the destruction of Ayutthaya by the Burmese in 1767 CE, "tears flowed from the sacred eyes to the sacred navel". The statue has been restored several times in history. King Mongkut named the statue Phra Puttha Thrai Ratana Nayok after its restoration in 1854 CE.
Visit by Zheng He
The temple was visited in 1407 CE by Zheng He, a Chinese Muslim eunuch admiral from Yunnan who leading his second Ming imperial voyage. He bestowed gifts upon the temple in a great ceremony that included Siamese royal participation, and is today remembered by Thai-Chinese visitors who still visit the temple in his honour.
.......................................................
Zheng He
Zheng He (simplified Chinese: 郑和; traditional Chinese: 鄭和; pinyin: Zhènghé; Wade–Giles: Chêng-ho; 1371–1433 or 1435) was a Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat, fleet admiral, and court eunuch during China's early Ming dynasty, and often regarded as the greatest admiral in Chinese history. He was originally born as Ma He in a Muslim family and later adopted the surname Zheng conferred by the Yongle Emperor. Commissioned by the Yongle Emperor and later the Xuande Emperor, Zheng commanded seven expeditionary treasure voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, West Asia, and East Africa from 1405 to 1433. According to legend, his larger ships carried hundreds of sailors on four decks and were almost twice as long as any wooden ship ever recorded.
As a favorite of the Yongle Emperor, whom Zheng assisted in the overthrow of the Jianwen Emperor, he rose to the top of the imperial hierarchy and served as commander of the southern capital Nanjing.

Turning Trauma Responses Into Strength
Fight or flight is a physiological reaction that occurs in the presence of mental fear, physical fear, and uncertainty on how to best respond. The sympathetic nervous system stimulates the adrenal glands which release a large amount of adrenaline – resulting in increased heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate – often accompanied by foggy thoughts and trembling. Following the elimination of threat, the fight or flight reaction takes anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes for the body to return to normal levels.
In abusive relationships, it’s very common for victims of abuse to live in a state of fight or flight. While it may not be fully elevated at all times, individuals in this position have been conditioned to remain fearful and unsure of what is going to come next. Due to living in a state of threat, it’s often not possible for victims of abuse to work through their emotions, feelings, and events until they have left the abusive situation/ relationship. This can make leaving even more difficult.
After leaving an abusive relationship, the emotional and mental effects are extremely likely to linger. Again, due to being in a state of fight or flight, someone is not able to process emotions until the direct threat is eliminated. According to Love is Respect, after leaving an abusive relationship, victims are likely to experience any of the following:
Depression
Guilt
Anger
PTSD
Anxiety
Trouble sleeping
Being easily frightened
Avoidance of triggers

'Metallic wood' has the strength of titanium and the density of water
High-performance golf clubs and airplane wings are made out of titanium, which is as strong as steel but about twice as light. These properties depend on the way a metal's atoms are stacked, but random defects that arise in the manufacturing process mean that these materials are only a fraction as strong as they could theoretically be. An architect, working on the scale of individual atoms, could design and build new materials that have even better strength-to-weight ratios.
Tumblr media
In a new study published in Nature Scientific Reports, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Applied Science, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the University of Cambridge have done just that. They have built a sheet of nickel with nanoscale pores that make it as strong as titanium but four to five times lighter.
The empty space of the pores, and the self-assembly process in which they're made, make the porous metal akin to a natural material, such as wood.
And just as the porosity of wood grain serves the biological function of transporting energy, the empty space in the researchers' "metallic wood" could be infused with other materials. Infusing the scaffolding with anode and cathode materials would enable this metallic wood to serve double duty: a plane wing or prosthetic leg that's also a battery.
The study was led by James Pikul, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics at Penn Engineering. Bill King and Paul Braun at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, along with Vikram Deshpande at the University of Cambridge, contributed to the study.
Even the best natural metals have defects in their atomic arrangement that limit their strength. A block of titanium where every atom was perfectly aligned with its neighbors would be ten times stronger than what can currently be produced. Materials researchers have been trying to exploit this phenomenon by taking an architectural approach, designing structures with the geometric control necessary to unlock the mechanical properties that arise at the nanoscale, where defects have reduced impact.
Pikul and his colleagues owe their success to taking a cue from the natural world.
"The reason we call it metallic wood is not just its density, which is about that of wood, but its cellular nature," Pikul says. "Cellular materials are porous; if you look at wood grain, that's what you're seeing? -- ?parts that are thick and dense and made to hold the structure, and parts that are porous and made to support biological functions, like transport to and from cells."
"Our structure is similar," he says. "We have areas that are thick and dense with strong metal struts, and areas that are porous with air gaps. We're just operating at the length scales where the strength of struts approaches the theoretical maximum."
The struts in the researchers' metallic wood are around 10 nanometers wide, or about 100 nickel atoms across. Other approaches involve using 3D-printing-like techniques to make nanoscale scaffoldings with hundred-nanometer precision, but the slow and painstaking process is hard to scale to useful sizes.
"We've known that going smaller gets you stronger for some time," Pikul says, "but people haven't been able to make these structures with strong materials that are big enough that you'd be able to do something useful. Most examples made from strong materials have been about the size of a small flea, but with our approach, we can make metallic wood samples that are 400 times larger."
Pikul's method starts with tiny plastic spheres, a few hundred nanometers in diameter, suspended in water. When the water is slowly evaporated, the spheres settle and stack like cannonballs, providing an orderly, crystalline framework. Using electroplating, the same technique that adds a thin layer of chrome to a hubcap, the researchers then infiltrate the plastic spheres with nickel. Once the nickel is in place, the plastic spheres are dissolved with a solvent, leaving an open network of metallic struts.
"We've made foils of this metallic wood that are on the order of a square centimeter, or about the size of a playing die side," Pikul says. "To give you a sense of scale, there are about 1 billion nickel struts in a piece that size."
Because roughly 70 percent of the resulting material is empty space, this nickel-based metallic wood's density is extremely low in relation to its strength. With a density on par with water's, a brick of the material would float.
Replicating this production process at commercially relevant sizes is the team's next challenge. Unlike titanium, none of the materials involved are particularly rare or expensive on their own, but the infrastructure necessary for working with them on the nanoscale is currently limited. Once that infrastructure is developed, economies of scale should make producing meaningful quantities of metallic wood faster and less expensive.
Once the researchers can produce samples of their metallic wood in larger sizes, they can begin subjecting it to more macroscale tests. A better understanding of its tensile properties, for example, is critical.
"We don't know, for example, whether our metallic wood would dent like metal or shatter like glass." Pikul says. "Just like the random defects in titanium limit its overall strength, we need to get a better understand of how the defects in the struts of metallic wood influence its overall properties."
In the meantime, Pikul and his colleagues are exploring the ways other materials can be integrated into the pores in their metallic wood's scaffolding.
"The long-term interesting thing about this work is that we enable a material that has the same strength properties of other super high-strength materials but now it's 70 percent empty space," Pikul says. "And you could one day fill that space with other things, like living organisms or materials that store energy."

Kaew Lorm Petch Reviews
Tumblr media
Kaew Lorm Phet
Pikul (Namphetch's (Vill) mother) runs away to Bangok after arguing and accidentally wounding her husband thinking that she killed her husband.
Her bus gets into a an accident. she gave birth in the hospital, she over hears police looking for a criminal and she thought the police are looking for her, with panic she accidentally took Lada's baby.(Kaewkao’s ((Aerin Sireeporn) mother ).
When she realises she goes back to hospital but she learns her daughter (Kaewkao) has health issues and needs treatment, so she lets them to have her baby thinking that they are wealthy they can afford and give her daughter a good life.
18 years later, when Pikul & Namphet selling sweets in the streets helps Kaewoko getting stabbed but Namphetch get stabbed, so Lada took them to her house as a cook.
But Kaew is a spoiled & grandma’s favourite child.
Grandma is also snob and very protective of Kaew, she’s the one who’s spoiling Kaew
Pikul is happy to be reunited with her daughter and already started to show her interest and protection of her biological daughter Kaew
Lada appears to be a much better mother comparing to Pikul
Kaewkao showed her true colours Pikul’s the first day of working as a cook
Kaewko reprimanded Pikul and asked Namphetch to educate and teach her mother some manners…
Pikul even made Namphetch to apologise Kaewko
Say hello to the mother who loves her biological daughter who have been growing up with an another family to the other daughter she’s been raising for years.
She is discriminating one of the other. She had already started to behave Namphetch badly and this is just the beginning.
Only Karn (Nampectch’s biological brother) Lada (biological mother) & head house keeper treats Nampectch well in the household
By episode 5 Cheewin was already in love with Nampectch
In every singe episode you can see Kaewko attacking, harassing, physically abusing Nampectch
But Karn has fallen in love with Nampectch and wanted to marry her, this time Pikul tried to stop this, as they are biological siblings.
If Kaewko grew up as the daughter of Pikul she’d still do her best to hunt a rich man.
But the head house keeper is suspicious of Pikul from day 1 the way she treats Kaewko is much nicer than she treats Nampectch
Both Cheewin & Karn has fallen in love with Nampectch, they even got her the same present without knowing
Even the present, they bought her was the same for her birthday, it was same watch but Kaewko had seen the present before and she was excepting a watch for her birthday.
When she got a phone and when she saw the watch Nampectch got she immediately thought it was from Cheewin and she stole her present and created another mayhem, Nampectch mother Pikul blamed Nam, telling her if she had not accepted the gift from Kam, things wouldn’t be like this.
Remmeber they both Nampectch and Kaewko were born on the same day at the same hospital Nampectch
To stop Kaewko attacking Nampectch over Cheewin, Karn made Nampectch his personal secretary
When Kaewko eavesdrop Cheewin & Karn’s conversation she heard, both guys love Nampectch and argue over her
When Nampectch, Cheewin & Karn went to Pattaya for business, Kaewko tricked Nampectch to go and get her wallet from her yacht, she followed Nampectch to the yacht hit her head, stripped her off, took all her belongings, she spiked Chanok’s drink (Cheewin’s brother) so that Nampectch had to marry Channok but her plans have failed.
But when Cheewin came to the yacht looking for Nampectch, Chanok used this for his own advantage, he fainted Cheewin, this way Nampectch would look like she slept with Cheewin and had to marry him.
He took the keys of the boat & he cut the radio cords, now everyone is looking for them.
Cheewin & Nam stuck in boat in the middle of ocean waiting for help while Chanok told everyone he has seen Cheewin getting into the yacht and sailing will Nam.
Cheewin confesses Nam that he loves her while they are alone in the yacht. He has told Nam even if she was not around, he would never loved Kaew
Karn has been hospitalised and Kaew already put the blame on Nam, she told her mother that he’s in this condition because of Nam.
Finally Nam & Cheewin got rescued and they have been told Karn has been hospitalised
After Karn had an MR, they found out that he has a brain tumour.
Nam has tried to explain things to Lada but she didn’t believe her.
Karn wanted speak with Cheewin to learn what had happened between him & Nam.
He asked Cheewin if he’s trying to steal Nam from him. .
Cheewin told him that Nam doesn’t love him
When Nam returned back home she got reprimanded by her mother and been questioned of what she has done.
Lada wanted to speak to Pikul about Nam & Karn getting married but Pikul said I am not approving it I don’t want them to do something that they will regret in the future.
Lada told Pikul that Karn has a brain tumour and if she has a better excuse why they would regret it she needs to tell.
Lada told her mother in law that her son is dying and please let her Karn marry Nam.
Nothing will be solved unless head house keeper gets the anklet from Pikul & shows it to grandma
Kaewko paid money to a gangster to kidnap & rape Nam but this plan backfired as Pikul’s husband witnessed gangster trying to kidnap Nam & rescued her, even at this situation Pikul sided with Kaewko
Pikul told Kaewko that she’s her biological daughter after she killed her own father..
Chanok pregntes a girl he hangs out with
During Pikul’s husband’s funeral police showed a piece of clothing that belongs to murderer and told everyone that the murderer is his blood relative, in other words, father and son.
They took Nam to dna / blood test and ofcourse Pikul didn’t want this.
Now head house keeper and Karn suspects that Kaewko & Pikul is hiding something
Kaewko burns the dress she was wearing when she killed her father
DNA & blood tests done for Nam came out negative, but this also proves that she’s not the daughter of Pikul and her husband.
Pikul told the police that Nam is her daughter with from her first husband
Now Kaewko wants to get rid of Nam even more as she’s the true heiress of the entire fortune.
Kaew’s brother already suspecting that she might have done something bad.
Kaew tried out to kill Nam, she tried to ran over her.
When Cheewin checked the cctv cameras he find out that it might be Kaew who tried to hit Nam and shared it with Karn
When Joe the gangster Kaewko hired to rape Nam, tried to kill Chanok as he’s not taking responsibilities for the girl he pregnante, she shielded herself and Joe accidentally shoot her.
When Kaweko & Pikul was talking about Kaew killing her own father and trying to kill Nam someone over heard them
It was the head house keeper who heard Kaew talking to Pikul, she wanted to tell this to Lada but Kaew was there talking to Lada, so she couldn’t; tell but Kaew is suspicious of the head house keeper that she might have heard something
I am sure Kaew has plans to get rid of the house keeper as well.
This time Kaew over hears the head house keeper trying to tell Kaew is not Lida’s daughter. Kaew asks how did she found out
She tries to stab the head house, keeper, Pikul begs the head house keeper not to tell anyone but Kaew kills head house keeper as well.
This girl is a walking murderer, after killing head house keeper, they buried her in a sack, now everyone is back home, When Chanok arrived to see Kaew, he saw her leaving with Pikul and that’s what he told to Lada & granny
Karn learns the truth about his health and Kam doesn’t love him but she loves Cheewin
Grandma questioned everyone whether they had seen the head house keeper?
Kaew & Pikul is panicking now, they are not sure what to do ..
The household already received a phone call from the police, they are asking them to come and identify the body of a woman whether she’s the head house keeper or not..
But the biggest clue to solve the murder is the anklet found on the body of the head house keeper, which has been missing for 20 years. If they use their logic they will find it, and the police said if she hadn’t steal it it’s possible that she got it from the person who killed her. (BINGO)
Now Pikul knows that police told the family that head house keeper has been killed over the anklet she also told this to Kaew. Not they are in more big panic.
Grandma over heard the conversation as well, I am hoping they won’t dare to kill the grandma.
Now the other maid, who is the maid of Kaew is sure that she has seen that anklet before
Grandma called her lawyer and told him her suspicions and the lawyer told her that they can do a dns test, but she wants it to be done secretly without letting anyone know about it
When she was getting hair samples from Kaew’s hair brush she got caught
Kaew made Pikul redial the last number grandma called and it was the law offices.
Channok over heard the conversation between Karn & Cheewin, he immediately meet with Kaew but Kaew denies..
The lawyer got the dna results, he calls the grandma to tell her, but she doesn’t believe and asks him to come and see her..
Kaewko eavesdrop grandma’s phone conversation with the lawyer but she only hears her name and she wonders what’s it got to do with her.
Pikul told Kaew that she’ll take all the blame on herself and won’t let anyone to blame her.
Grandma heard everything and she know she realises everything that she raised a spoiled brat, a rattle snake
Kaew and Pikul knows that grandma know something but they don’t know what she knows yet.
Kaew send Pikul to grandma’s house and she made her dial her number so she can hear what grandma is speaking to her lawyer.
She heard that grandma cut her from her will, and immediately went to grandma and asked why she’s leaving everything to Nam, grandma told her that Nam is to true heiress and she’s leaving everything to her.
Kaew ripped the dna test.. She pushed her grandma, & grand ma is in hospital, she even tried to kill grandma while she’s in the hospital
Kaew tells Pikul that she won’t let her grandma to live.
But Pikul asks Kaew to look after grandma well
Cheewin asks Nam to marry him and he told her he promised Karn that he’ll look after her well.
When Kaew asked about marriage and love to Cheewin, Cheewin told her how can you still talk about love and marriage when you have Chanok..
And both Lada and Cheewin’s mother asked what does he mean by that and Channok said she had changed her mind
Nam started to get suspicious and asked Cheewin to test a glass of water Kaew gave it to grandma..
They got the test results of the fluid in the glass and it was poison.
Kaew wants to kill both grandma & Nam
Nam tried to give the test results to Lada but Kaew interfered and Nam couldn’t give it to Lada and this time Pikul took her to their house and rip of the test results and she’s still violent and threatens Nam
Nam learned the truth accidentally, she was send to the lawyers office… she learned it at the lawyers office.
Nam had got her courage and told Pikul that she’s not her daughter, her daughter is Kaew
Nam decided to leave that house. She said her goodbyes to grandma
Channok was found covered in blood and take to hospital
In the hospital he said it was Kaew who did it to him. and he told his brother everything, that Kaew killed the head house keeper and now she wants to kill Nam
Kaew took grandma and she pushed her chair to kill her but Nam saw grandma and saved her, when Kaew saw that Nam helped grandma this time she attacked Nam, but Cheewit, Karn, & Lada came right on time and they would be able help Nam…
But Kaew kidnapped Nam, when they arrived home the police came and wanted to question Kaew in suspicion for the murder of the head house maid.
Grandma said she knows why and asked them to bring the envelope and now everyone knows the truth
The crazy bitch shot her own mother. And put the gun to her head killed herself ..
Nampet & Cheewit got married, Karn will be going under brain surgery, after getting married Nam & Cheewit visited Pikul who became a nun
They have wasted the entire lakorn on Kaew. She had more screen time than anyone.
I can’t recommend this drama, it’s boring, long and waste of time, they wasted the good chemistry of Son & Will on this stupid lakorn.
I shed a couple of tears at the end.

Dear Derrick Johnson,
I’m still not ready to revisit that crazy time after Grant’s first surgery. Plus, it’s football season so it makes sense to do this next set of posts. I’ll do multiple installments because if I tried to cram it all into one it would be too much.
It really all started with a statement Connie made that day after Dr. Pikul finished telling us about Grant’s surgery. Connie mentioned Grant’s story should be shared with the Chiefs, that they would want to hear about him getting through the surgery by talking about his favorite team. Coincidentally, 2017 was the San Diego Chargers’ first year as the new Los Angeles Chargers, and that meant the Chiefs were guaranteed to play here every year. I checked the schedule, and their first LA match up was going down on 9/24/17. Teaser shot number one.
Tumblr media
June was an in-between month. Grant had finished radiation and was pumping himself up to go back to work. Things had sort of calmed down, and I was feeling less fragile and more up to thinking about our situation. I never forgot what Connie said, and I started focusing myself on creating meaningful experiences for Grant and the kids (and me, too, but for this event in particular I felt like the kids were more important). It took me a while to psych myself up to writing the letter. I wrote probably ten different versions and edited that thing to death. I tried to leverage everything about our family that would get a foot in the door. When it was done, I sent it to Colin for final edits and to get his take on it. He added some important information and blessed it, and we both agreed the more people we could get it to the better.
We launched a dual offensive approach. Colin sent scanned copies to Denny W, Mindy W, Ryan E, Maria V H, and County Executive Frank White. Colin went the extra step with a cover letter for the copy he sent to Sam Mellinger at the KC Star. Julie and Paul took the letter and engineered some behind-the-scenes machinations to help our cause (more on that in the next installment). I sent physical copies - on high quality paper because you know, that kind of thing matters! - to the Chiefs organization: Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt, General Manager John Dorsey, Head Coach Andy Reid, Director of Foundation and Civic Affairs Anne Scharf, Marketing and Foundation Coordinator Jackson DeLay, the Eric Berry Foundation, Eric Berry, and Grant’s favorite player Derrick Johnson. Each person in the Chiefs organization got a personalized letter. John Dorsey was let go literally on the day I put these in the mail. Jeff M put it in the hands of a PR rep for a retired NFL QB who played for the Chiefs in the ‘99 and ‘00 seasons. Teaser shot number two.
Tumblr media
Now, you know I have a gallery’s worth of images on Facebook. I’ll add the images the Chiefs photographer took of us in the next few posts. Here’s the letter, and the collage that accompanied it. I defy you to look at that collage and NOT be moved.

 Re:  Request for Consideration
Dear Mr. Johnson,
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. My fiancé Grant Stoner is from Independence, MO and is a lifelong, diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan. You are his favorite Chiefs player and he does own one of your official NFL jerseys. His son Wyatt (11) and daughter Naomi (9), both born in Los Angeles, are also Chiefs fans first and maaaaaybe Rams fans (we’ll see), along with their Aunt Kim Stoner who also lives here. I love my Niners but have adopted the Chiefs as my AFC team due to a pair of QBs… The rest of his family – parents Larry and Connie Stoner, brother Colin Stoner and sister Julie Musgrove - live in Kansas City and have season tickets for games at Arrowhead Stadium.
Let me tell you Grant’s story. In January of this year, with no warning at all we found three tumors in his brain – one the size of a small tangerine and two smaller satellite tumors. He had surgery on 1/27/17 to remove the big one from the section of your brain that affects memory and cognition. This was Awake Brain Surgery; the neurosurgeon asks questions during the procedure to map what can be removed and what cannot be touched. Dr. Pikul told us that for the first ten minutes Grant wouldn’t respond to their prompts and they thought they were going to have to stop the surgery. But, Dr. Pikul kept trying and asked him about football. That got Grant going – he started talking about the Chiefs, and through that question and answer session they were able to identify and remove 90% of the large tumor, well above what they thought they could get going in. Pathology revealed that he has grade 4 GBM multiforme, the most aggressive brain cancer there is.
Grant recently completed an intensive round of radiation and is taking chemotherapy drugs to kill the two remaining satellite tumors. These are both in areas that cannot be reached through surgery. He is doing better than projected and has slowly begun to reintegrate himself into his former life. He does not have 100% of his memory back but has worked very hard to go back to work and move forward. He’s watched with pride as his son Wyatt turned into a talented wide out in the NFL Play 60 Flag LA league. In a happy twist of fate, this year Wyatt’s flag football team is the Chiefs.
Grant has defied all the odds so far with his recovery and could very well continue to defy them for years to come. Yet, I know what it is to lose a parent at a young age – my mother passed away from cancer when I was 7 years old. It is critical for his children to have as many experiences possible with their Dad to balance against the hospital stay. Grant has always admired your determination and focus; he strives to emulate your work ethic to overcome injury and return to your position as a key element to the Chiefs defense. Grant was also proud of the way the Chiefs organization supported your teammate Eric Berry through his lymphoma diagnosis. He came back to peak form and triumphed on the field; Grant would love to share with him how much of an inspiration he is to someone struggling with a parallel disease. What I am requesting is for Grant and his family (his brother Colin Stoner is flying out from KC as well) to have a meet and greet with you, Eric Berry and the team when you come to play the Chargers on 9/24/17. We are excited to attend the game as a family and will represent the Chiefs’ fan base with honor.
Please take this letter as a sign that your organization means a great deal to people all over the country and the world. Grant has stayed the committed fan he’s always been through all the ups and downs. As you can see in the photos I’ve included he took comfort in the team even while battling it out in the hospital. He’s an incredible father, a great man, the best life-partner anyone could want, and so utterly deserving of being granted this request. He would be grateful beyond measure for this moment and his children will carry it with them forever.
Again, thank you for taking the time and for your consideration. I hope to hear from you soon – my phone number is __________ and my email address is _______.
 With love,
Valerie Taylor Grant Stoner Wyatt Stoner Naomi Stoner

P.S.: Wyatt and Naomi are not, nor will they ever be Rams fans - in hindsight I wish I could take that line back. Their NFC West allegiance belongs to me!

Sportsmail tells you all you need to know ahead of the tournament.
The eighth edition of the Women's World Cup gets underway in Paris on Friday evening
THE CONTENDERS
France
World ranking: 4
Coach Corinne Diacre has added a psychological edge to a national side who have never been been to a major final, despite Lyon dominating Europe. In January they even beat the USA, who could meet in the quarters.
Star player: Amandine Henry (Lyon)
United States
WR: 1
Defending champions and the team to beat despite a sex discrimination case against the US Soccer Federation in March, for paying them less than the men. A younger generation – Mallory Pugh, Tierna Davidson and Rose Lavelle – are rising.
Star player: Alex Morgan (Orlando Pride)
United States players warm up during a training session at Tottenham's base on Wednesday
Germany
WR: 2
Managerial upheaval gives rivals hope – coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg has only four games at the helm. But technical class should tell, with a younger crop of stars, including Lina Magull and Lea Schuller, now contributing.
Star player: Dzsenifer Marozsan (Lyon)
THE DARK HORSES
England
WR: 3
Phil Neville's more ambitious tactics and a close connection with the players justifies the optimism that soared when his side won the SheBelieves Cup in March ahead of the USA, Japan and Brazil. Unconvincing in warm-up matches.
Star player: Nikita Parris (Lyon)
England applaud the fans at the end of the Saturday's friendly defeat to New Zealand
Japan
WR: 7
Remnants of the 2015 finalists – Aya Sameshima, Mizuho Sakaguchi and Mana Iwabuchi – are still around and confidence back at home that the team, who could face England in the group stage, could reprise their 2011 success.
Star player: Yui Hasegawa (Nippon TV Beleza)
Canada
WR: 5
Their 1-0 win over England in a warm-up game revealed the threat of one of the tournament's most physical and organized sides, who have the prolific Christine Sinclair to provide the goals.
Star player: Christine Sinclair (Portland Thorns)
Christine Sinclair (center) celebrates with her teammates during last month's Mexico friendly
THE DREAMERS
Italy
WR: 15
One of the trailblazers for the women's game in the 1970s before they fell behind. Club sides helping the nation become competitive. Could well make knockout stages.
Star player: Manuela Giugliano (AC Milan)
Jamaica
WR : 53
Debut for a nation with some stories to tell. Three of Khadija "Bunny" Shaw's brothers were killed in gang violence but she has emerged as one of her country's best players.
Star player: Khadija Shaw (Tennessee Volunteers)
Khadija Shaw (right) is congratulated by after equalization against Scotland last month
Thailand
WR: 34
The best team in South East Asia and more successful than the Thai men, with a re-formed national league in the country helping. There was no domestic football in the country between 2013 and 2016.
Star player: Pikul Khueanpet (Bundit Asia)
How it works
The 24 teams are split into six groups of four. The top two sides from each and the four best third-placed teams will reach the last 16.
England are in Group D alongside Scotland, Argentina and Japan.
Win their group and England will face a third-placed team from Group B, E or F.
Finish runners-up and they will play the winners of Group E – which could mean a meeting with Holland.
The semi -finals and final take place in Lyon. The final is on July 7 at 4pm.
Lyon's Parc Olympique Lyonnais will host both the semi-finals and final of the tournament
Can you still get tickets?
Yes. Tickets for all three England games are still on sale from FIFA's official ticketing website for as little as £ 8.
Tickets for Friday's opener, the semi-finals and final have sold out.

A new look at old treasures Art May 06, 2018 01:00 By Khetsirin Pholdhampalit The Sunday Nation 2,205 Viewed AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebook125Share to TwitterTwitterShare to LINELINEShare to Google+Google+Share to MoreAddthis The renovations so far completed at the National Museum Bangkok are attracting interest and have more than doubled visitor numbers WHEN THE Fine Arts Department started its programme of renovations to the National Museum Bangkok back in 2014, the hope was that visitor numbers would increase, thus generating income for an institute that has been haemorrhaging cash money for decades.  The gamble has paid off, with museum director Nitaya Kanokmongkol reporting that the numbers have more than doubled and revenue from admission fees has increased fivefold, from Bt20,000 a day to more than Bt100,000. The first fully renovated hall in the complex, Siwamokkhaphiman, re-opened two years ago with an entirely revamped interior, greatly improved lighting, and shorn of its walls and other obstacles to exploration.  The National Museum Bangkok recently opened four newly refurbished halls with a new display design and improved lighting that makes the facility more inviting. Four halls in Moo Phra Wiman – a former residential complex of the viceroys – followed, opening this year just in time for the unprecedented interest in Thai history and traditional costumes generated by the royal-initiated, yesteryear-themed festival “Oon Ai Rak Klay Kwam Nao” and the hit period TV series “Buppesannivas” (“Love Destiny”). “Today the museum attracts more than 300 Thai visitors and 500 foreigners a day, which is so much better than our previous record of 300, all nationalities combined,” Nitaya enthuses.  The museum was formerly Wang Na (the Front Palace) and constructed in 1782, about the same time the Grand Palace was built. It served as the residence for five viceroys during the reigns of Kings Rama I to V.  Work is continuing on Moo Phra Wiman’s other 12 halls and the aim is to complete the project within the next two years. The Patchima Bhimuk Hall is home to exquisite metal works arranged according to technique employed. “We previously put a lot of artefacts on show, but now we have reclassified and highlighted significant pieces that best represent each topic. The layout plan has also been reviewed and now allows space for a 360-degree view of each piece. Multimedia techniques have been added for some exhibits and this provides more visual understanding than boards filled with text,” adds the director. Another noticeable improvement is the installation of new and more suitable lighting and specially designed secure glass cabinets fitted with controls to maintain correct levels of humidity and temperature. These days, visitors are even permitted to take photographs though, as elsewhere, flash and selfie sticks are banned.  The Uttra Bhimuk Hall displays exquisite clothes and costumes from the Siamese court. Among the recently renovated four halls at Moo Phra Wiman, the most popular with Thai visitors is the Uttra Bhimuk Hall, which is home to a display of the clothes and costumes of the Siamese court. The “Oon Ai Rak Klay Kwam Nao” and the TV series “Buppesannivas” might have already ended but some visitors still turn up to the museum in Thai traditional costume and spend hours marvelling at the truly magnificent display of rare, intricately embellished costumes once worn by members of the royal family and noblemen.  The exhibition is enhanced by a video presentation on the dressing style and the making of textiles in the Siamese court as well as the traditional ways in which the costumes were laundered. Prince Asdang Dejavudh’s khrui krong thong (translucent gown) made from mesh fabric embroidered with silver and gold threads, and somrot krong thong – gold lace netting worn as a sash. “The works are reclassified according to category such as pha sompak – a kind of lower garment worn by noblemen to distinguish their rank, pha lai yang – printed cotton fabric worn as a lower garment, and pha krong thong – gold lace netting used as a translucent shawl by noble ladies. We also display pha yia rabap, an Indian silk fabric with gold stripes and brocade and pha sapak - a noble lady’s shawl made of silk and woven gold cloth embroidered with green beetle wings and crystal beads,” says Nitaya. The richly embroidered piece at the centre is the costume of King Mongkut embroidered with oak leaves and fruit in flat metallic gold thread. The highlight is the richly embroidered costume of King Mongkut embroidered with oak leaves and fruit in flat metallic gold thread. It dates back to 1859 and is believed to have been tailored and embroidered in Europe.  The pattern of the crown on the collar as well as the oak leaf design on the facing and back are similar to several textiles given to the King by the French government as a gesture of friendship. The embroidery technique is complicated and tight and the metallic gold thread is oxidised, so it turns black with time. The inner translucent cloth, however, is embroidered with a pikul flower (bullet wood) pattern thought to be the work of Thai artisans. The royal garments were pricey and elaborate, as they were made of imported textiles from China, India, Cambodia and Persia and required skilled royal artisans to weave the already elaborate cloth with gold-thread or with a printed design that used the gold line technique known as pha khien thong. Long-sleeved collar shirt made from yia rabap silk fabric brocaded with gold threads. The embroidered clothes on display were widely favoured by members of the Siamese court, particularly the high-ranking ladies of honour. Silk and high-quality cotton were the most popular fabrics and often woven with coloured silk stripes or other materials such as gold or silver-wrapped thread, pearls, glass beads, crystal and jewelled beetles. Embroidery usually took the form of flowers and branches as well as classical Thai patterns. The complete set of musical instruments played in a wong piphat khrueng yai (Thai classical orchestra) Thai musical instruments and art pieces related to the royal performing arts are presented in the Thaksina Bhimuk Hall. Here visitors can see the complete sets of mother-of-pearl inlaid instruments of the 22-piece wong mahori khrueng yai (Thai grand orchestra) and the 12-piece wong piphat khrueng yai (Thai classical orchestra) arranged according to the positions of musicians. A video clip of the grand orchestra performing is also presented. “The wong piphat khrueng yai of the Fine Arts Department performed during the Royal Cremation Ceremony of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol late last year and this has drawn interest in learning more about the set of woodwind and percussion instruments of the traditional orchestra,” Nitaya says. A rare collection of intricate, small hun lek or hun wang na (the royal puppet of the Front Palace) can be seen at the Thaksina Bhimuk Hall. Another highlight is the hun lek or hun wang na (the royal puppet of the Front Palace), which were introduced by Krom Phra Ratchawang Bowon Wichaichan (the viceroy in the reign of King Rama V). The puppets in intricate costumes were similar to the hun yai or hun luang (royal puppet) figures, with full arms and legs, a wooden tube and control rods but smaller in size – about 30-centimetres high each compared to the 85-110 cm of their larger cousins.  Hun yai or hun luang (royal puppet) figures Also on display is a collection of khon masks and sian khru (teachers’ heads) of Hindu deities such as Brahma, Indra, Isavara, and Ganesh as well as elaborate and intricate accessories specially made in Europe on the order of King Rama VI and used in the royal khon. Here too, understanding is helped by the screening of a khon performance.  A rare collection of weaponry dating back to the Ayutthaya and early Rattanakosin periods is on view at the Burapha Bhimuk Hall. Armaments find their home in the Burapha Bhimuk Hall. Among the collections is the weaponry crafted for monarchs and noblemen including the Vishnu spear with bamboo shaft and decorated with gold damascene, and a caplock firearm with metal wrapped buttstock and gold damascene trigger set engraved with the name of Prince Vishnunat Nipathon – a son of King Rama IV.  Tamra pichai songkram (the military treatise on war strategy) is displayed, with a touch screen illustrating each page of the treatise. The tamra pichai songkram (the military treatise on war strategy), the 82-page royal edition written in 1815 during the reign of King Rama II, is securely displayed in a glass cabinet but can be brought to life thanks to a touch screen, which shows each page of the treatise. This reflects the beliefs and rituals of warfare, different troop formations for mobilisation and for battle and campground plans.  The next glass cabinet further illustrates the orders in the treatise through tiny soldier figures marching in khrutphayuha benchasena (garuda formation with five types of soldiers). The display of the battle formation in garuda form with five types of soldiers as illustrated in the military treatise. The last stop for the visitor is the Patchima Bhimuk Hall, home to exquisite metal works arranged according to technique employed and including Buddha images in hum plaeng (gold-pleat wrapping), krum household items such as scissors and hand-held betel nut grinders etched in cross-furrows and inlaid with gold and silver, and a collection of water kettles and caskets made using the thom pad (painted enamel on copper) technique popular with Chinese artisans. Hand-held betel nut grinders and scissors inlaid with gold and silver – a technique influenced by Persian artisans Another six halls are slated to open in October and will display rare collections of ceramics, mother-of-pearl inlay, Buddhist monk utensils and royal transportation.  Among the project in the works is a virtual museum tour, audio guides in different languages and QR codes for smartphones to access further information, along 3D visualisations for some significant pieces. Copper kettles in thom pad technique (painted enamel on copper) influenced by Chinese artisans “The museum has to adapt and become a living museum, not a boring place, for people of all ages and to meet the rapid changes in people’s lifestyles,” Nitaya says.  THE PAST BROUGHT TO LIFE The National Museum Bangkok is on Na Phrathat Road next to Thammasat University. Admission is Bt30 for Thais and Bt200 for foreigners. It’s open Wednesday through Sunday from 9am to 4pm. Guided tours for groups can be booked in advance and are conducted by trained volunteer guides in English, French, German and Japanese on Wednesday and Thursday at 9.30am, and on Sunday at 10am and 1.30pm.

Pra Buddha Chinnaraj
Pra Buddha Chinnaraj enshrined inside the temple of Wat Pra Si Rattana Mahathat (Temple of Great Jewelled Reliquary), colloquially referred to as Wat Pra Si or Wat Yai, is a Buddhist temple (wat) in Phitsanulok Province, Thailand.
The temple is famous for its gold-covered statue of the Buddha, known as Pra Buddha Chinnaraj (King of Victory). It is considered as one of the most beautiful and the classical magnificent Buddha figures in Thailand and received the highest worship among Thai people, equivalent to Luang Phor Sothon of Wat Sothonwararam in Chachoengsao Province (not including Emerald Buddha).
This Buddha statue was cast together with other statues of the same Buddha, including Pra Buddha Chinnasi, and Pra Si Satsada, which are currently enshrined in this temple.
According to the legends, there are still a controversial about the time of casting these statues. Some believed it was in the 10th century. Some said it might be in the 14th century. However, in the northern history (Pong Sawadarn Nua / northern chronicle) had been registered that.
“In the year B.E. 1500 Pra Si Dhamma Tripidok or Pra Maha Dhammaracha Lithai, after the completion of building of Wat Pra Si Rattana Mahathat wanted to cast three Buddha statues as the principal image in the temple. The king got five Brahmins named Ba Indra, Ba Brahm, Ba Vishnu, Ba Rachasingh and Ba Rachakusol. The king asked for renowned sculptors from Si Satchanalai town or Sawankhalok together with the first class artisans from Chiang Saen and Hariphunchai to assist in the casting of the three Buddha statues”
The first Buddha statue was a Mara Vichai episode of 5 sok (1 sok = 50 cm) 1 kueb (1 kueb = 25 cm) 5 new (1 new = 2.45 cm) measuring from end of laps in sitting posture. The second Buddha statue was of a Mara Vichai period of 5 sok 1 kueb 4 new measuring from end of laps in sitting posture and the third Buddha statue of Mara Vichai period of 4 sok 1 kueb 6 new measuring from lap to lap in sitting position.

1UP Reblog: Four Reasons to be Excited for Pandora’s Tower
Pandora’s Tower was released in the US a couple of weeks ago. Just as I suspected, It didn’t make a lot of noise.
But If you own a Wii (or a WiiU) that’s just sitting there collecting dust, stop complaining and get it. It’s really good. If I had to review it, I’d give it a 7.5/10. A real 7.5/10, not a fake one that you give games nowadays to say they’re bad without saying it.
Anyway, here’s a thingy I wrote for 1Up a year ago. I thought editing it a bit and reblogging it would have been a nice idea. I hope it gets you interested in the game.
                                 ///////////////////////////////////////////
The Last Story is about to thunder across the U.S. skies; the beautiful Xenoblade Chronicles has struck. While the incredible community effort of Operation Rainfall probably isn’t entirely to credit for the U.S. release of these games, it certainly didn’t hurt. Operation Rainfall comprised three games, and unlike the first two the third – as yet unannounced for American audiences – has met with a tepid reception in Europe: Pandora’s Tower. The Last Story and Xenoblade came from established creators Hironobu Sakaguchi and Tetsuya Takahashi, men who built their reputations with titles like Final Fantasy and Xenosaga. Next to such legacies, Pandora’s Tower seems comparatively diminished and unattractive – and its clearly limited budget certainly doesn’t help.
But beneath Pandora’s Tower modest looks beats the heart of a great game.
The Scar
The game’s plot revolves around two lovers, Aeron and Elena. The former is a deserter, running from the horrors of war. The latter is a kind girl who has been struck by a horrible curse that transforms her into a beast that feeds on human flesh and is thus wanted by the Elyrian Kingdom army.
For an action RPG, Pandora’s Tower has quite an immense and detailed world… one that you won’t visit but throgh well written dialogues and forgotten documents retrieved during your adventures that will certainly tickle your imagination, making the tale’s setting unbelievably genuine.
The game takes place entirely in a very small environment, a complex called “The 13 Towers”: A forgotten fortress held afloat by 12 chains pierced into the surrounding cliffs. These chains prevent a huge chasm that scars the land of Elyria from widening and opening a path to the netherworld.
The tale starts when the two fugitives find refuge in a observatory used in ancient times to monitor the arcane experiments taking place in The 13 Towers. Little do they know that their escape has kindled the flame of war across the entire continent. And even if these events are nothing but a distant echo, the story will change significantly according to the couple’s actions, leading to multiple unpredictable endings that will not only affect the fate of the main characters, but also the balance of the entire world.
The Hunger Game
Pandora’s Tower is a very delicate game, but it can also be brutal. It knows how to reward the player, but at the same time knows how to punish mercilessly, and Aeron and Elena are the ones who pay for your mistakes.
The cursed mark on Elena’s back slowly sends her through a horrible transformation that seems to have come straight out of David Cronenberg’s nightmares. When she mutates, even the plants alongside her suffer, becoming grey and sickly. To keep his beloved sane and stop her metamorphosis , Aeron has to explore the tower and obtain monster flesh to feed her. The detail that went into creating realistic pieces of dripping monstrous meat and the cutscenes that show Elena consuming them are hands down the most disturbing thing that you’ll ever see in a video game. Some are so horrible I had to skip lunch while playing – and meatballs, my favorite food, were served that day.
What’s worse is that, as the game progresses, the heroine begins to enjoy her meals, leading to sickening moments that almost outdo the famous scene from eXistenZ in which Pikul enjoys his Chinese “special.” According to Toru Haga, the game’s director, this idea came while eating lunch on a train to work. Eating is, after all, such a normal action, part of everyone’s daily routine, and transforming it into a disturbing, painful experience is a smart way to both impress the players and help them empathize with Elena.
The game is a love triangle with death.
Aeron can interact with his belle in a variety of ways reminiscent of dating simulations, but Elena is not the typical damsel in distress, and does her best to fight her disease, while hiding the anguish of being in such a state to avoid burdening Aeron further. She even has a central role in the gameplay. Give her presents, and instead of just greedily accepting them, she will convert them into useful items: She can cook, sew bigger inventory bags, even translate documents from unknown languages.
Elena is a vivid character, beautifully portrayed by the numerous cutscenes…and these change depending on how your bond with her develops. It’s hard not to care about her, and developer Ganbarion succeeded in transferring the drama of the couple onto the player’s shoulders. You will want to make sure she’s okay.
But make her unhappy and… Well, you don’t wanna end up devoured in the name of love, right?
The Silent Protagonist
Aeron is a man of few words. His actions speak for his heart and cut through his silence. His feelings are always clear thanks to his body language, and particularly his deep, expressive eyes: Note his kind love and determination with each intense stare at the suffering elena, or the modesty that surfaces when he looks away away shyly when she is happy and grateful.
And yet, Aeron is as lethal as he is sweet. He can cut a path through horders of enemies using a variety of weapons with exquisite expertise - from swords to scythes, each with a distinct move set and stats that can be improved via forging.
The gameplay is simple; you can combine basic attacks together or unleash a number of special charge moves that differ from arm to arm. But what makes it fresh and original is the Vestran chain, a sub-weapon capable of interacting with enemies in a crazy amount of ways. You can bind monsters’ legs to make them fall, then drag them or strangle them; you can tie them to pillars to stop them from advancing, or even steal their weapons and lash back.
The game gives its best in the battles against the tower masters, often peaceful Shadow of the Colossus-like creatures – have fun with the moral implications – with interesting patterns to learn to expose their weak points via chain interaction.
Exploration is equally inspired, and the game doesn’t handhold the player, but lets him free to explore the environments and solve Zelda-flavored puzzles, often forcing him to rely on mere observation to understand the level layout and how to proceed. It makes Pandora’s Tower harder, but also gives the player the thrill of understanding every riddle on his own. If Castlevania’s developers would try this game and see how Gambarion made wise use of the Vestrian chain’s whip-like gimmick, they’d finally get an idea how to create a 3D title worthy of the series’ name.
Pandora’s Tower is a game with a lot of heart, and it makes up for its limitations with inspired art direction, a superb story, and pristine level design. Let’s hope that Nintendo presents the game at E3 so everyone can give it the chance it deserves.
                                 ///////////////////////////////////////////
Of course, last E3 is long gone. But the game is out, why haven’t you bought it yet!?
