Caitlyn laughs, bumping their shoulders together. “I already know you’re a great teacher.”

Vi blinks slow at her, and Caitlyn noticed with a start that her pupils are dilated almost enough to fill her irises. Somehow, they had gotten close enough for Caitlyn feel her breath as it puffs hot onto her cheek, and Caitlyn’s head spins from the wine and the proximity. Her heart doesn’t beat fast, but it beats hard, hard enough to feel in her hands and her ears and in the inches between them.

“I could teach you a lot of things,” Vi whispers.

So there's this fic i read back in april, and to this day its one of my absolute favs. I originally just wanted to draw that one outfit Caitlyn hastily wore in chapter 2, but of course it's me and i had to add 3 more panels. Anyway, read the fic, its much funnier and adorable-r and anything-er in context, extremely well written (including the most accurate depictions of dreams i've ever read) and gets better after multiple read-throughs. And it's only 5 chapters!

When Am I Gonna Lose You? - (Caitlyn/Vi)

Her stomach twists with the creeping horror of realization but then she’s there, running a hand along the railing as she descends the staircase. It’s Caitlyn, tall and worn, as if she’s sprung to life from the painting behind her. She must catch Vi staring because she stops at the landing and meets her hard gaze, unreadable. She’s framed perfectly and Vi knows then what an artist must feel when struck by profound inspiration—like a bolt sent from the heavens—begging, begging, begging to be captured. There’s not much to it, really. There’s just Caitlyn, solid and breathing, standing before a portrait of ghosts.

Summary: “Wait!” the girl cried, rushing to catch up with Vi. “Where are you going?” “Not here,” Vi replied, not stopping. “Take me with you!” That made Vi stop. She spun around, watching as the girl stumbled to a sudden halt in front of her. “And why the hell would I do that?” Or, Vi is grumpy, Jinx is a gremlin child, and they somehow make it to Vi's ex-girlfriend's house without killing each other during the end of the world.

“Did you have those tattoos before the apocalypse?”

“Yes.”

“Were you that buff before the apocalypse?”

“Pretty much.”

“Do you always wear that hat?”

Vi tugs her baseball cap lower on her head, shielding her eyes from the sun. “No.”

Jinx doesn’t seem convinced. “I dunno. You always have it on. Do you have a weird bald spot you’re hiding or something?”

Vi flexes her jaw and reminds herself that punting a kid is generally frowned upon, even during the end of the world. “No.”

“Can I wear your hat?”

“No.”

Jinx pouts and crosses her arms over her chest. “Well, I don’t wanna wear it, anyway,” she huffs. “It’s probably disgusting from all your head sweat.”

Five goddamn minutes of peace. That’s all Vi asks for.

Jinx gives her about thirty seconds.

“You’re not very nice, are you?”

Vi rolls her eyes and doesn’t respond. Jinx is quiet for maybe thirty more seconds.

“Your watch is broken.”

Vi clenches her hand into a fist tight enough to make her fingers pop. “How about we stop talking for a bit.”

That buys her about two minutes before Jinx starts all over again.

Caitlyn looks at her. She looks at Vi for the first time in days, still dressed in her blood- and dirt-stained clothes sullied during their encounter with Jinx in the Academy. Her hair looks like it hasn’t been washed in days. She has dark circles, deep and craterous, like she hasn’t slept at all. Her muscles are wound taught like she’s ready to run, like she’s always been ready to run. She looks haggard, defeated, worn.

She is the most beautiful thing Caitlyn has ever seen.

“Because there’s nothing worth doing if I can’t do it with you.”
