Dhelmise
Dhelmise (#781)
Alganchora alganchora
General Information: Dhelmise, the Sea Creeper Pokémon. Like all ghost Pokémon, these creatures have mysterious origins that is difficult to concretely pin down with only science or only folktales.  With all folklore surrounding their origins, there is some truth to it. Between putting together maritime tales and modern scientific understandings of Dhelmise, there’s a loose agreement that the first Dhelmise was likely some weird combination of the drowned soul of a sea-farer, seaweed, and an old ship. Ghost Pokémon have weird origins, okay!? And then after this initial birthing of a Dhelmise, it almost certainly reproduced through periodic agametic/asexual reproduction processes. This tracks with modern Dhelmise, fitting with the fact that they are unable to sexually reproduce except with Dittos (and under mysterious circumstances) in captivity.
Dhelmise average at 12’10 feet (3.9 M) and weigh 463 pounds (210 kg).
Habitat: They can potentially live in any body of water that has drowned sailor souls, seaweed, and shipwrecks—or were able to migrate there from these origin sights. Yes, this does mean that they live in the Great Lakes of the world, including and especially Lake Superior and Lake Michigan in the United States.
Life Cycle and Relationship with the Food Web: Here’s the thing, no one actually knows for sure what the Dhelmise life cycle looks like. We don’t know how long they live (probably a long time), we don’t know how they reproduce except that they can, and we certainly don’t know what their mating habits are like if any. Dhelmise are rare, but this is for the best, because we do know how they interact with the rest of the food web.
Dhelmise are mega-fauna specialists. They will swing their anchor at Wailords, Wailmers, Laprases, Milotics, Gyaradoses, Mega Sharpedos, Araquanids, and Avaluggs to hunt them and devour their souls. Yes, their souls. They love eating the souls of large Pokémon because they have more spiritual energy to eat in the first place. The actual body is left alone, and these megafauna will sink to the ocean floor, to be consumed as Whale Falls. But don’t worry, before you start thinking that they’re these voracious predators driving our megafauna to extinction, they only feed once or twice a year! Well, sometimes more often than that if they’re feeding on smaller creatures.
Scientists believe that Dhelmise may be important nutrient recyclers in oceanic and Great Lake ecosystems. But what eats the Dhelmise? Why, Pincurchins, of course! Pincurchins love to eat seaweed and are the bane of every Dhelmise’s existence! And the Pincurchins are eaten by the Mareanie, and so forth.
Behavior: Dhelmise are not particularly chatty Pokémon and can be quite territorial and aggressive. This also makes them excellent guardian Pokémon for those with a need for an aquatic/marine guardian Pokémon. As a literal anchor and some seaweed, Dhelmise don’t need to put up with that much that shouldn’t be put up with.
It hunts by stretching its anchor for hundred of yards using its seaweed body, and then it drains the lifeforce of its prey by wrapping itself around it.
Interestingly, Dhelmise seem to really get along with Skrelp and Dragalge, both in the wild and in captivity.
Conservation: Unknown. They are a low abundance species but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re endangered in any capacity, but also humans haven’t really been able to accurately assess how many there are and how many is healthy, etc.
Relationship with Humans: Dhelmise exist because of humans. They likely originated from one or more of our drowned souls, and its anchors that we make that they use to hunt. However, humans and Dhelmise rarely interact. They can often be found living in our old shipwrecks, but they do not attack unless provoked. The biggest obstacle Dhelmise tend to create is the difficulty in scouring shipwrecks for archaeological purposes or treasure hunting, since they tend to be quite territorial. Otherwise, they do make excellent examples in ecology classes of the food web at work.
Classification: Dhelmise are in a taxonomic family to themselves, and apart of the “Probably Came From Human Souls Originally” Order, Anthroriginia… which means “Originally Human.” Yes, once you learn the Greek and Latin roots of scientific names, suddenly they don’t seem nearly as creative, alien, or fancy. Its scientific name Alganchora alganchora is a combination of “alga” (seaweed) and “anchora” (anchor).

Hello Professor! I was hoping you could help me come up with a pokemon team? I'm an aspiring fashion student and I would love to have pokemon that could help me in some way in my career.
The more, the merrier!
Oh boy! There are lots of Pokémon out there who could make great companions for fashion designers. I've listed some of my ideas below, please forgive me if I miss some key concepts as I do not know very much about the fashion world.
First I think that a Pokémon with telekinetic abilities would be very handy, from sorting tools to arranging fabrics. Telekinesis is a very accessible move by TM, so you have a great many options there. Togetic, Espeon, Gothorita, Audino, Clefairy, and Kirlia all stand out to me as particularly well-suited to assisting an artistic trainer. All tend to be quite loyal Pokémon who enjoy keeping their people safe and happy, and are intelligent enough to get a lot of enrichment out of creative problem solving challenges.
Second, I imagine that it would be very helpful to have one or more Pokémon that are capable of easily and accurately cutting and pinning materials. Cacnea, Togedemaru, Sandslash, Scyther, Pincurchin, Pawniard, Zangoose, and Sneasel are all great options. Just keep in mind that most of the Pokémon on that list are predator species who need a decent amount of safety training as well as abundant enrichment and exercise to prevent restlessness.
Similarly to before, I know that many people who work with clothes tend to raise Bug-Type Pokémon that can assist with sewing using their String Shot ability. Leavanny is of course the most popular; between their natural inclination to making garments and their pleasant personalities they are commonly kept by tailors as both assistants and mascots. Spinarak, Caterpie, and Scatterbug are also very capable of helping out in that way.
And of course, there are several Pokémon species known for enjoying handling fabrics and creating disguises. If you like Ghost-Type Pokémon, then adding a Banette or a Mimikyu to your team could be very helpful. Otherwise a Burmy or Furfrou could make an excellent model for you.
Other Pokémon with generally wonderful and helpful dispositions include Minccino, Lillipup, Machop, Zigzagoon, and Alcremie. Rounding out your team with one of these sociable Pokémon could be a great way to ensure team spirit.
If you are currently living in a student dorm or small apartment, I'd recommend keeping your team small to start with, and leaning towards Pokémon that do not require tons of exercise or space to move around. Especially considering that you have classes and studying to do. Finding reputable breeders to raise a Cacnea and a Sewaddle pair may be the most pragmatic starting point, as both have relatively easy care regimens and enjoy basking in sunshine when not with their trainer. However, if you live in a space that is very cold or does not have abundant sunshine, I would instead recommend starting with an Eevee and a Shuppet or Sneasel.
Best of luck!

April 15, 2023
Set an alarm today at 5:15am but woke up at 6am because I slept at around 1am. I literally didn't sleep well because of the Pokemon Convention happening in Excel today. Went to Eddie's and arrived at 8am.
On my way off Prince Regent Station, I saw some fans queuing with their Pokemon Lanyards and I saw a Galarian Ponyta mural exiting the station and I literally shed tears. I've been a fan for as long as I can remember and this is my first time attending a convention and it's very near Eddie's place. I'm literally so happy today.
Went to Starbucks for a quick breakfast and went to queue in the line. I saw a lot of fans waiting to get in the popup Pokemon Centre! I'm literally in tears. I was trying to find a kind-of-big plush of Gardevoir but couldn't find one but Eddie managed to find a small Gardevoir plush which I bought along with the Pyukumuku, Snom, and Pincurchin pins, and a Dragapult shirt. Good thing that it only amounted to 50GBP otherwise I wouldn't have controlled myself very well, to be honest. I actually forgot to bring my Snorlax plush with me as I was planning to give it away to some random trainer but I was rushing to catch the bus this morning. I'm just so happy being there but was kind of bummed that they didn't let anyone else go and spectate the tournament and that tickets were actually sold out last month. Well, I only knew it like two weeks ago. I'll try my luck next time. Regardless, I am so happy today because I got to be where I would want to REALLY be... for a change.
Went to eat in Canary Wharf. It's a bit awkward not being able to talk about anything with Ed. The silence is weird... In a way, we're not like this when it's just the two of us. I'm not paying it much mind but it's kind of, I don't know, just weird, I guess.
Talked over the phone with Poks as she had some problems that not many of our friends know. Our relationship is the kind that only the two of us could understand. I consoled her and offered some of my thoughts. I hope she gets through it quickly. I mean, I know she would, because she's Emz Siose but I wouldn't want that to bother her that much. We're planning to see each other next year back in the Philippines. The goal is to have that hot girl summer that everyone will get jealous of.
Planning to see JC tomorrow and I'm kind of stressing what to wear. He's going to be the first Zamboangeno friend that I'll be meeting here in the UK and I don't want to judge myself for looking... I don't know, ugly? Well, I'll make it work. I always do.
Capping the night off with a late night dinner with Eddie.

Hi :D
May I have a team (:
ok i scrolled through your page and you seem pretty normal. and by pretty normal i mean you havent said a single thing that points me to anything. you have literally nothing showcasing ur personality i can pull from nor have i ever met you before. there's nothing wrong with that necessarily it just makes this a little harder.
ok. so. im gonna have to go by your name. sorcery and socialism. uh. pokemon is a game about magic and shit. and uh. socialism isnt really... a type.
ok so im making the executive decision to assign you a personality in my head based on your message, your reblogs, and your username.
ok you have been psychologically analyzed to be an electric type user. take it or leave it. the team may or may not fit you.
1. Magnezone
Tumblr media
Through my psychic analysis I discovered a love of funky oddball thingamajigs. Magnezone is the funkiest guy imaginable. Also, technically it's extremely sticky. Idk what that has to do with anything but you can do with that what you will.
2. Zebstrika
Tumblr media
This is a safe pick, cause if given the choice between having an electric zebra and not having an electric zebra most people would take the electric zebra every time. Of course, this is a foolish thing to do; most of the time keeping an electric zebra is impractical and unattainable. In this case it is neither, so I am assuming you enjoy having this electric zebra.
3. Raichu
Tumblr media
Everyone likes Raichu. You give me the vibes of a pretty cool person. And like I said it's hard to discern anything about you. Raichu is the same, cool but a pretty not noteworthy Pokémon, just because its line is so popular that saying that you like it is like saying you like pizza or something.
I'm not saying you as a person are not interesting. You seem interesting. I'm just saying that I could not figure out these interesting things about you from your tumblr post.
I'm actually kinda scared I'm being super mean right now and let me just tell you that you could be the coolest person ever and I would not be able to tell because I have such little info to work with, yknow. You're not uninteresting as far as I can tell.
4. Pincurchin
Tumblr media
Ok I may have lied. Through my psychoanalysis, I have figured out that you may enjoy the occasional goober. Of course, this may be a misinterpretation of your vibes, because believe it or not, I am a really shitty judge of character.
Anyway, here's a Pokémon that isn't playing it safe because I'm scared to offend a stranger. Here's the pin cushion sea urchin. Who's an electric type.
It's also the only nonlegendary electric surge user. So. It's good for your teambuilding!
5. Oricorio (Pom Pom)
Tumblr media
Oricorio is based on Darwin's finches. I feel like evolution as a concept is very integral to both sorcery and socialism. Things must change over time, whether thats the air temperature around a fire ball or the model of politics and economics we are using.
Oricorio here also uses electric dance moves to zap its opponents. And you seem like a fan of that kind of thing. As far as I can tell.
6. Galvantula
Tumblr media
You like giant electric spiders, right? You've gotta like giant electric spiders. I mean, come on.
Ok, that's it. This is the worst one so far. You're not boring or uninteresting I just could not discern anything about you from your profile alone (the other people I did I know from elsewhere and also make a lot of posts themselves)
You seem like a very nice person though, so I do think this team is fitting of a cool, friendly person. Don't be disheartened that your explanations weren't as detailed or your team as hand crafted. I'm not a mind reader as much as I'd like to pretend I am.
I hope you like it and if you don't, remember, no takebacksies!

Hey guys! I want to be more active on this blog again so I’m gonna make a quick little pinned post :)
Hiiii I’m Hop (though I feel like that was already known bc you’re on my blog and not otherwise but whatever I’m rambling haha)! I’m 16 right now and my birthday is in December B)
I’m currently 5’6” but I will be taller than Lee mark my words because I’m still growing and he’s not. My favorite color is orange and obviously my favorite pokémon are Wooloo!
My team are as follows: Pudge my Dubwool, Munchies my Snorlax, Skip my Cinderace, Io my Corviknight, Bloo my Pincurchin, and Luna my Zacian! While we aren’t battling all too often anymore, they’re the best team a guy could have! I do have others of course but they aren’t in my main six rotation, though I do talk about them from time to time :)
I still work under Sonia but I’m hoping soon to start traveling to become the best pokémon professor since Professor Oak!
I think that’s all so, feel free to ask any questions but please keep them pg-13! Other than that, thanks for checking out my blog! :D

The Fastest Slow Pokemon Ability: HA: Electric Terrain (Activates Electric Terrain for 5 turns when the Pokémon enters a battle)
Nature: Brave (+Atk, -Spe)
Item: Electric Seed (If Electric Terrain is active the holder’s Defense is raised 50%)
Moves: Zing Zap - Level up Liquidation - TR Self-Destruct - TM / Poison Jab -  Level up Curse- Level up / Sucker Punch - Egg
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Sp Def, 4 HP IVs: 0 Speed More Trick Room Pokemon! I’m not doing it on purpose but hot damn if Pincurchin isn’t begging to be used on one. That abysmal 15 base Speed is suddenly a huge asset once you’re in a Trick Room. Actually, the only Pokemon that could even “outspeed” you that’s even remotely a threat is Shuckle, and Shuckle isn't exactly known for its offensive capabilities.
Tumblr media
Congratulations! Nothing short of priority moves will move “faster” than you.
Pincurchin’s Hidden Ability, Electric Surge, is phenomenal. It automatically sets up Electric Terrain as soon as Pincurchin is sent out, which combos beautifully with an Electric Seed. As a pure-electric type, the main thing Pincurchin fears is Ground-type moves. The most common you’ll see is Earthquake and thanks to the Electric Seed you’re automatically taking 50% less damage from it.  Zing Zap is the move you’ll be using most of the time due to the increase in power it’ll get from Electric Terrain and its chance to flinch. Pincurchin has a lot of other good moves to choose from, but Liquidation is a must-have. Not only is it good for type coverage, but it also has a 20% chance to lower the opponent’s Defense which will only make it easier to snag the KO.  Curse is really fun on a Physical Trick Room Pokemon because it essentially works like a Physical Quiver Dance, boosting Attack, Defense, and Speed all at once. Of course, with its 15 base Speed the extra cut(buff?) to Speed might be overkill, but it’s still worth it for the extra bulk and damage it provides.   Self-Destruct is just hilarious. Why can this Pokemon explode? Who knows, but it does 200 base power and it’s a perfect way to go out if you think you’ll be KOed soon or if Trick Room is ending. I’ve fully invested in Special Defense to give Pincurchin even more bulk. It doesn’t really need to invest in Defense thanks to Curse+Electric Seed, and your HP is so horrible that it isn’t worth the investment.  Honestly, this Pokemon has an incredible amount of potential on the right teams and I cannot wait to breed my own.
Consider Poison Jab for extra type coverage against Grass types that would otherwise resist everything except Self-Destruct, as well as Sucker Punch for an option outside of Trick Room. Pin Missile could also see some usage to break Substitutes and more type coverage, but it’s situational.

Let’s Talk About Pokemon - Pincurchin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
871: Pincurchin
I feel like a sea urchin was another animal I should've put on my wishlists. They're neat little creatures, and have a lot of creative monster potential despite being just a ball with barbs, more or less. Which is why Pincurchin just feels like a big letdown. I like it and all, it's cute in the same way Pyukumuku is, but. Really? Just an electric sea urchin? That's the best they came up with? Yeah, it's another Pokemon that feels “unfinished” it me.
...I'm really struggling to come up with talking points about this thing.
Its name “Pincurchin” I assume is meant to be a fusion of “pin cushion” and “urchin”, that would've rad! An urchin that's also a pin cushion. But alas, it's just a name. Now if that idea ever gets made into a Pokemon, English localization will be kicking themselves for already using that name.
Also for whatever reason, it's mono Electric type instead of Water/Electric, just like how Clobbopus is mono-Fighting. What's with the holding out on Water all the sudden? Are they getting self-conscious about the population of Water types? I already said it's FINE that Water is the most populated type in the game! Most of Earth's creatures LIVE in water!
Tumblr media
In fact, I was so grossly underwhelmed with Pincurchin, I almost immediately got to thinking on how to make a cool urchin monster and made my own. I'm not posing the “Barbarbian” family here as a Pincurchin redesign mind you, just. Urchins are cool and neat! And really fun to design monsters after. So I just wish Pincurchin could’ve been more fun or interesting to talk about.
Tumblr media
Personal Score: 6/10
Tumblr media
It gets by on a good score anyway cause it's competently designed enough. I just feel like our first Urchin Pokemon should've wowed me a lot more than this.

SSBU: Flow with the Current
The trailer starts with the iconic Smash symbol, which then fades away, cutting to some sort of polar beach. An orange splat of ink is seen, before a squid-like humanoid comes out of it. The being turns out to be the Inkling Girl who’s trying to navigate through the beach while trying not to fall in the water. As Inkling carries on, she accidentally bumps into Ridley. Ridley begins to chase her. Inkling begins to panic, firing off ink from her Splattershot, which unfortunately doesn’t deter the Cunning God of Death as he smashes each iceberg Inkling hops off of. Inkling makes it onto shore, but Ridley catches up to her, ready to fire his Plasma Breath. Inkling readies her Splattershot, but it’s empty. But, before Ridley can fire off, he steps onto a small black spine, which electrocutes him. Then, all of a sudden, a small black and yellow creature crawls up to the duo and begins to eat a bit of seaweed that was on the sandy ground between them.
Tumblr media
“PINCURCHIN GETS TO THE POINT!”
Inkling sees Pincurchin and falls in love with how adorable it is. After being shocked at the revelation, Ridley attempts to skewer the Inkling. Pincurchin thinks it’s one being attacked, and fires off a massive current of electricity, sending the space dragon flying. Inkling lets out a happy “Woomy!” as Pincurchin saved her. The trailer then cuts to gameplay footage of Pincurchin fighting the other characters. After unleashing its Final Smash as it Dynamaxes and uses Max Lightning on the opponent, the Smash logo is shown, and the trailer ends with the screen fading to black and the copyright information is shown on screen

Trying to get an idea of what’s circulating now in this mess...
Tumblr media
Looks like its name is “Pincurchin” which is obviously a play on pincushion and urchin but a few things stand out about this...
First of all, when I generally think of a pincushion my ideal is the type that looks like a tomato. That route could have also easily been done which maybe would be Fairy/Steel due to being designed like a cute foodstuff full of pins and needles.
Interestingly despite being an urchin it lacks Water typing and is a pure Electric type.I guess not all urchins are sea urchins plus we have a rather blurry picture to go by.Not to mention if we look at the definitions...
