I made my second batch of popsicles today!

This one is virgin colada.

Because months ago I bought by mistake some SWEETENED coconut milk (nice in desserts, sure, but I wanted it for curry and soups. Been trying to follow vegan recipes from Indian cook blogs, since you know your girl is vegetarian and sometimes also remembers she's lactose intolerant), and IT TURNED OUT USEFUL MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

Tropical Cocktails Day

Tropical Cocktails Day, which was started by Jace Shoemaker-Galloway in 2013, celebrates the flavorful drinks that are most associated with tiki bars, and are more often than not made with rum. Tropical cocktails became popular after two tiki bars, Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic’s, opened in California in the 1930’s. Both establishments claimed to have invented one of the most popular tropical cocktails, the Mai Tai. Since their formation, tiki bars have portrayed a romanticized view of what Polynesian drinks and culture are like. After about thirty years of great renown, tiki bars fell out of popularity. But, there was a resurgence in the 1990’s, and in the 21st century tropical libations are once again filling people’s glasses.

How to Observe Tropical Cocktails Day

Celebrate the day by drinking a tropical cocktail! There are many types of drinks to try. You could try a more classic cocktail, or try to expand your palate. You could make one of these at home, but the best place to try one is at a tiki bar!

Javier Peña - 'The Loredo Legspreader' - Gin, lemongrass, lemongrass syrup, fresh lime juice, red Thai chilli to garnish. Serve with a cigarette and a sour resting bitch face. Sweaty pink shirt optional.

Marcus Moreno - 'The Upstaged Father' - Cherry vodka, lemonade, blue curaçao, coconut vodka, mango rum, grenadine, simple syrup, crushed ice, orange slices to garnish. Whilst 141 and you are on a quick break through the streets of Mexico, do you spot a fairly sized taco stand on the side of the sidewalk. Eat up! What kind of tacos would 141 like?

A/N: Y'all can't tell me 141 DIDN'T eat any mexican food during their time in Mexico cause i knOW they were starving goDDAMN,,, Also this was written with a reader with Mexican origin or relation in mind, so take that as you will.

This man loves the good ol' classic Tacos De Carne

Asks the poor vendor to pour a ungodly amount of onions ontop because's who's gonna stop him cmon now,,

Rudy kinda looks at him like 'Damn does the man like onions this much?'

Fell in LOVE with the salsa verde although he had a stroke at first

Orders 10 tacos de carne and a quesadilla because he's about "variety"

After his first time eating them, he craves tacos a bit more after finishing missions.

That one dude that puts hella avocado in his tacos

No like literally the poor tortilla is gonna pop open

Instead of killing enemies, Price is killing these poor tacos

Soap

Soap's a bit more of the daring/curious one

So he tries the Tacos de Lengua first since you offer one to those who dared eat it because you're pretty sure none of the 141 members (excluding Alejandro and Rudy) have tasted cow tongue before.

Cringed at first when he took the first bite tbh

The texture was something that threw him wayyy off

Like who tf thought putting cow tongue in tacos was a good idea??

But as he slowly started taking it in, it actually tasted...good?

The meat was soft and chewy but it oddly felt comforting?

Quickly found himself to actually like the tacos and orders 5 more from the vendor.

Asks if your mother makes them, and if you say yes, he WILL ask for an invite.

Orders Tacos de Birria because he remembered Rodolfo talking about eating some for lunch.

He also remembers seeing people cook them on his insta feed so

Was very hesitant to taste tacos out in the streets at first because damn his paranoia does get ahead of him :(

But after everyone tries them, he tries to give them a shot

Didn't like the tacos de lengua because of the texture

And the tacos de birria were too greasy for him (but if he would've totally ate them after drinking though)

But damn, looking at the pastor slowly rotate on the vertical rotisserie did make it look really appetizing...

No regrets

Really likes the tad of sweetness added to the flavor because of the pineapple added

Ghost really loves meat so when he watched the vendor pack the tortilla with pastor, he knew he was in for a ride.

Orders quite a bit,, like 7 (or more if he's really hungry)

Faces away from yall to eat so you guys couldn't see his reaction but damn, that empty plate tells stories..

Alejandro

Being born in Mexico got it perks ngl

And being in Special Forces allows him to travel all around the Mexican states.

So he's tried alot of taco varieties

But his heart and soul will always be with Barbacoa straight from his momma's home OR from Las Almas.

Either in tacos or with a full plate of rice and frijoles puercos he will FUCK THEM UP.

Plate cleared and EVERYTHING

He loves eating them when he's homesick :(

Lives by salsa roja,, and throughout these headcannons I'm not talking about the salsa only made with tomatoes,, I'm talking about it being made with them red hot ass chiles.

Just as a palette cleanser, but besides tacos de chicharron, he also likes the taste of tacos de lengua

But tbh it just depends on how he's feeling

Likes his onions cooked and put on the side so he can just plain right eat them.

England

August 1943

Annie stubbornly ignored the trickle of sweat which ran from her neck down her shoulder blades to the small of her back as she bent over the nose of the B-17. Though the day was hot, perhaps the hottest one since she’d arrived in England that spring, she reminded herself as her paintbrush glided across the bomber’s metal surface that she’d frequently endured far hotter back home. Better to finish this quickly and spend the rest of her day off with her feet up and a bottle of Coca-Cola in hand than to gripe about the heat and throw in the towel now.

With one last brushstroke, she neatly filled in the last bomb silhouette and leaned back to survey her work. The bright yellow mission markers still needed to be outlined in black so that they would really stand out, but she could do that later once the paint had dried in the afternoon sun. For now, she was satisfied.

“No pin-ups today?” a voice called out, causing Annie to startle and nearly fall from the ladder she was standing on. Taking a deep breath as she steadied herself, she threw a glare over her shoulder at the offending man.

“Dammit, Lemmons, do you sneak up on everyone like that? Or am I just special?”

Ken Lemmons grinned as he walked across the hardstand towards her, hands in his pockets and looking infuriatingly casual. “Of course you’re special, Park. I thought you knew that already.” As he reached the base of the ladder, he extended a hand up to her. “Ma’am.”

Annie rolled her eyes as she took the hand he offered, nimbly jumping down to eye level with him. “You better not have come to tear up my hard work. The paint’s not even dry yet.”

Ken shook his head, a smile still tugging at his lips. “Wouldn’t dream of it. I was just taking a walk and saw you hard at work. Figured I’d check up on the grand artiste and her latest muse.”

“No new muse today, I’m afraid,” Annie replied, reaching into her pocket for a rag to wipe the paint off her hands with. “Our Baby flew two missions this past week, so Captain DeMarco asked me to update her mission markers.”

“They’re getting quite a few up there,” Ken said, inclining his head towards the airplane. “Looks like you’ll be busy for a while longer.”

“I hope so.” Annie nodded, suddenly feeling very solemn. Ken sobered as well, looking down at his feet for a moment. Then he cleared his throat and wiped his brow with the back of his hand exaggeratedly.

“Whew, it sure is a hot one today. I don’t know about you, but I thought that England was all cold and rain before I got here. Guess not.”

Annie smiled and shook her head. “Oh please. I’m sure it’s much hotter than this in Arkansas.”

“I know it’s much hotter than this in Hawaii,” Ken retorted. “What do y’all do to beat the heat over there?”

“We sip pineapple juice from coconuts while relaxing on the beach, of course. Everybody knows that.”

“Oh, of course, my mistake.” Ken put up his hands in mock surrender. “Well, I haven’t seen any pineapples or coconuts around here lately, but we could probably find some lemonade. What do you say?”

“Lead on.”

Cuerpo Inc: Water Cooler Talk

“What are you guys looking at?” I asked, seeing my fellow interns grouped around Ian’s cell phone. It was a bit strange, seeing a bunch of middle-aged men acting like overgrown teenagers, but... well, that’s what we were. All of us save Ian, at any rate. There were a lot of upsides to getting an elusive internship at one of the largest bodyswapping companies in the country, but having to spend the summer in the body of someone 20+ years older was definitely a weird experience.

“I was scrolling through Tinder on my lunch break, and I think I might have found some of your bodies,” Ian said. “Your original bodies, I mean. Granted, I don’t know what any of you all really look like, but... I can’t imagine anyone your age buying a membership to the Eagle Crest Country Club. Just a bunch of old rich dudes playing golf. Oh, hang on, let me pull it back up,” he said, as I walked over to look over his shoulder.

“What were you doing on Tinder looking at men?” I asked, as I absent-mindedly scratched at my t-shirt. Corey’s body was both really tall, and really hairy. I still hadn’t really gotten used to having all this hair under my clothes. “I mean... sorry, that was an asshole question,” I added, realizing what I had just said to him. “I just didn’t expect you to be interested in other men.”

“No offense taken,” Ian said, shrugging his shoulders. “I’m Bi, so I don’t always register on people’s gaydar. Anyway, here’s the profile. Does that look like anyone you know?”

“Oh geez,” I said, feeling my stomach drop out. “I think I remember the guy in the purple shirt from pre-swap orientation on the first day, but... yeah, that’s me in the blue.” Seeing the real Corey flaunting my body like that was pretty surreal. It was one thing, knowing that he was probably gonna have a ton of sex in my body-- there were SO many liability waivers that we had to sign before the swap happened-- but to see my own ass in a jockstrap like that... I didn’t know what to think.

“Yeah, I feel your pain,” Matthew said, reaching up to pat me on the shoulder. “That’s me in white. Apparently we’re both ‘hungry bottom bois looking for daddy dick’ according to the profile. Honestly, I think I’m more bothered by the fact that we’re drinking Truly.”

“Fair’s fair during Intern Season,” Ian said, shrugging his shoulders. “I know you guys may not think much of your current bodies, but you are both prime bear specimen, and I think you could both have one hell of a weekend if you’re open to broadening your horizons a bit. No man should have to resort to only his hand for ten weeks. You should come over to my place after work tonight.”

“I’ll... I’ll definitely think about it,” I said, rubbing my beard. I never thought of myself as gay, but the given the circumstances... a one-off with another man didn’t sound so bad.

“Matthew, my guy, come on in! I wasn’t sure if you were going to make it!” Ian said, gesturing him inside. “You have great timing, Corey showed up maybe ten minutes ago. Come on in and get naked! Or at least get comfortable,” he added, gesturing to my boxer briefs.

I was relieved to see that Matthew’s reaction of shock, confusion, and arousal was the exact reaction that I had gone through only moments earlier. Ian was drinking pineapple juice, and his 72 inch flat screen was pre-loaded with ‘Anal Strap-On Vixens 5′. The coffee table in front of the leather sofa was loaded with various lubes, a variety of dildos, and a few boxes of tissues.

Ian was unperturbed by his open-mouthed stare. “Like I was telling Corey, I thought we would start with group masturbation, and feel things out from there. I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t mind having sex with either one of you-- or both of you-- but consent is important. And we can still have fun even if you’re not willing to go that far today.”

I couldn’t help but smile. There was something incredibly sexy about Ian’s relaxed confidence. I couldn’t speak for Matthew, but... I had a feeling I would not be leaving here today without Ian’s spunk coating my insides.

It's strange how much, when I have time off (e.g. tomorrow is ANZAC Day and I've booked the Friday after as annual leave so I can have a four-day weekend), I feel like "ah, normal life for a bit," because work-day life never really feels like life.

Anyway, this weekend is my mother's 70th birthday and she's having a party (catered ladies' lunch) and she's sad because her sister is sick and can't come but on the other hand her best friend has flown over from Australia for it, and I will spend a chunk of tomorrow baking two large and sumptuous carrot cakes for the occasion.

The best carrot cake recipe I've ever found btw: Carrot Cake III from Allrecipes.com. I make it without the pecans, because my sister's allergic to nuts, and instead of plain cinnamon I use mixed spice (called pudding spice in the UK and pumpkin pie spice in the USA). Otherwise, I just follow the recipe and I really cannot over-emphasise how nice this cake is. My sister and mother request it for their birthday cakes pretty much every year.

It's so moist you can make it a couple of days in advance with no noticeable deterioration (provided you store it wrapped up or in an airtight container, of course). The original recipe is for a 9x13 rectangular pan but it works pretty perfectly if you divide the batter equally between two medium-size round cake pans and then layer the baked cakes with the cream cheese icing, which is my normal method. This time, however, I'm making the rectangular version for ease of cutting and serving to a lot of different people.

And it's easy. You don't actually need an electric mixer, if you have a whisk or an egg-beater and some gumption that's just as good. I speed things up by grating the carrots in a food processor - as well as being quicker, I find this results in tidier grated carrots that don't leak and slop their juice so much. In my experience, three medium-size carrots usually yield three cups of the grated stuff, and I would recommend using a grater or food processor disc with smaller holes - thinner strands of carrot give you a better-textured cake.

And as you may know if you know me, I like carrot cake to be a simple and honest CARROT cake, and this one is. There is no secret, sneaky fruit involved.* Carrot it says and carrot it is and carrot it ever shall be.

I once made this with heirloom purple carrots as an experiment. It looked simply disgusting and tasted exactly the same.

*I don't mind if you want a carrot and pineapple cake! I just think you should call it a carrot and pineapple cake. Stuff you if you put sultanas or raisins in it though.

Tropical Cocktails Day

Tropical Cocktails Day, which was started by Jace Shoemaker-Galloway in 2013, celebrates the flavorful drinks that are most associated with tiki bars, and are more often than not made with rum. Tropical cocktails became popular after two tiki bars, Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic’s, opened in California in the 1930’s. Both establishments claimed to have invented one of the most popular tropical cocktails, the Mai Tai. Since their formation, tiki bars have portrayed a romanticized view of what Polynesian drinks and culture are like. After about thirty years of great renown, tiki bars fell out of popularity. But, there was a resurgence in the 1990’s, and in the 21st century tropical libations are once again filling people’s glasses.

Celebrate the day by drinking a tropical cocktail! There are many types of drinks to try. You could try a more classic cocktail, or try to expand your palate. You could make one of these at home, but the best place to try one is at a tiki bar!
