Everything you ever heard about DRG community is true.

I have now been to multiple public (anyone could join) missions, where I started off alone, only to have another rando newbie (player rank like 7, so under 10 hours of playtime, same as me) come join, and, And a player with rank 179 (... let's say from the top of my head, around 100+ hours in the game) joined in to help us. I bet no loot from those missions even matter to those players, the rewards should be too little of use to them. They are just high-level players looking out for newbies and joining their games to help you learn the ropes. It's honestly amazing and super sweet.

It's also extremely fun to just hang around in the lobby with people. I have had several games where me and the team were celebrating our latest mission at the bar/dancefloor, only to then fall prey to engine failure and drop off the game entirely. I feel bad for ghosting those players like that, we did just spend 10 or more minutes doing funny dances together, but I don't regret that time spent together at all. DRG is really magical like that.

blackjack had me murderous last night , it was the only alternative mode where you couldn't team up properly or if you were beaten up by everyone ganging up on you it's because of targeted harassement but some fucking e-daters saying "did you know? you can team up, i'm teaming up with my husband right now"

Currently Reading: Fanfic, mostly. But I've also started reading Chain Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, which is my first actual book read in a year and I'm excited about it!

Currently Watching: Re-watching Brooklyn-99 (R.I.P. Andre Braugher) for the first time since I binged it during the early pandemic. As for ongoing shows, I continue to be hooked on Ghosts (U.S.) whose season 3 started airing and I adore it a perfectly healthy amount. And for like the 13th year in a row I remain addicted to RPDR and season 16 has me by the short hairs every Saturday morning yet again.

Currently Obsessed With: Trying to break my recent bout of writers block 🥲. I'm making some progress there though with a goofy oneshot I'm working on, along with my Missing Nin!Naruto WIP, an unpublished Regency Era project, and a little something extra for The Exception.

I'm in a rough spot. I want to start a kin blog and document my thoughts, memories and experiences, because over the past two years this has become a daily part of my lived experience and I've begun to realize how important it is to me. On the other hand, I am a canonical rapist who brought about the end of the world, and I don't want the KFF/kinnie crowd who thinks you can pick your kintype to harass me. Nor do I want to make survivors uncomfortable via my presence. Do you have advice?

I could go on a whole ramblerant here, but tl;dr: You deserve your place in the community. People who would be made uncomfortable by you can block you, easy as that, especially if you tag your posts with "[fictotype] kin" or whatever for blacklisting purposes. You are not at fault for your fictotype's actions and you shouldn't be made to isolate yourself from a community that should be supporting you.

Unfortunately, there's no real solution to the potential of harassment other than Use The Block Button Liberally and try not to let them get under your skin. If you get harassment (in any form), don't respond to it - just block, delete asks or replies, and move on. If they can't understand that they should be blocking you themselves to curate their own online experience, that's on them, not on you.

I would also recommend @goratrix-betrayed's Othercon panel, Living with a Problematic Fictional Identity (And Where to Go from Here) - I suspect it might be a good listen for you. (spoiler alert: the "accessible" theory they sent wasnt even that much better than the 1800s speak shit most communists read)
