ATEEZ, Street Man Fighter’s Vata and the New Thing - Say My Name dance plagiarism controversy
Today we unveil the happenings of the most hot debate right now in the K-pop choreography land involving boy group ATEEZ.
Tumblr media
Zico’s song New Thing aka ‘새삥’ is the latest viral song with a trending choreography that has been adopted by multiple K-pop groups for its dance challenge. A lot of the most popular K-pop groups have been trying it out including members of TOMORROW X TOGETHER, ENHYPEN, NCT 127, NCT Dream, WayV, ITZY, and more. The fun beats of the song as well as the moves have seen a global trend being made out of it.
Street Man Fighter: Interestingly, while the song credits for ‘New Thing’ go to soloist Zico, the choreography credits are currently under debate. Vata from team We Dem Boyz is a contestant on the ongoing survival reality program ‘Street Man Fighter’, the male version of the famed dance crew program ‘Street Woman Fighter’ with the host as KANGDANIEL and BoA, Super Junior’s Eunhyuk and 2PM’s Wooyoung acting as judges.
Vata: Vata, a dancer, has been accused of plagiarizing one of the dance steps in the choreography. Known as the ‘traveling motion’, the move was first observed by fans of the reality program who upon seeing it in K-pop boy group ATEEZ’s Say My Name choreography expressed their surprise, unknowingly making it seem as if the creators had instead been responsible for ‘copying’. Soon, it became a hot debate online where many let it be known that it was indeed first seen in the boy group’s song rather than being an original in New Thing.
Wooyoung: ATEEZ member Wooyoung got himself involved in the equation during a show. Their song The Real has a section where the members often perform freestyle steps and during their show in Daegu, one of the audience members saw Wooyoung doing a ‘biting’ action which is known to be a denotation of ‘copying’ by street style dancers, following by the dance step under scrutiny. The back dancers also followed the ATEEZ member’s action and it was quickly noted by onlookers.
Say My Name: Things got heated further when one of the original creators for the Say My Name choreography shared their opinion. Choreographer Anze Skrube took to his Instagram to share his opinions. He reposted posts written about the alleged ‘copying’ where he as well as Vata were tagged. Soon after, he went on to post a video on his Instagram to clarify his stance on the issue.
“There is a difference between being inspired by a move and taking a whole sequence of moves. And this is what happened in this case. This particular sequence was choreographed by Josh Smith at the end of 2018 and came out at the beginning of 2019.” He continued, “If you get inspired by something, the least you can do is credit the creators.", asking for proper credit for the move to Josh Smith, Anze Skrube, and Johnny Erasme, who were responsible for the Say My Name choreography released in 2019.
Multiple parties are now involved in the controversy bringing further attention to the move, as well as putting a stop to the K-pop artists originally hopping on the dance challenge. Vata is yet to respond to any allegations, the same going for his team. On the other hand, Mnet- the broadcasting channel where ‘Street Man Fighter’ airs every week has commented that they are working to figure out their stand on the matter.
Fans of ATEEZ are demanding an apology while some are also claiming that it's a common move and can be imitated to be put in anyone’s choreography. The leader of We Dem Boyz or WDBZ, has not shared his views on the allegations while the show continues to broadcast every Tuesday.

Hey, Red Chillies? Are you listening?
In the fan segment of Pinkvilla's flagship interview featuring Rani Mukerji, the actress was asked a host of questions by her fans and admirers. One of the questions was related to whether they could have Rani Mukerji collaborate with Shah Rukh Khan again on a film in the future and the actress cryptically answered, 'tathastu', a term that is used to fulfill manifestations.
Rani Mukerji was then asked to describe Shah Rukh Khan in one word and she answered, 'love', a term most people associate SRK with, for both his onscreen and offscreen personas. At the end of the conversation, the Ghulam actress was asked to share the best thing about working in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and she immediately said, 'romancing SRK'.
Please, please, please, can we have these two in a film where they play a HAPPY couple? A romcom maybe? A sequel to Paheli?
Please, sir!

Have u read reviews on thr Pinkvilla site. Theres a thing i read sbt what makes loki so relatablr. However, later in the paragraph the author wrote that thor killed loki in infinity war for some reason.
R they ok?
I hadn't read it but now I have. Link.
This is hilarious and no, I don't think they're okay:
For the unversed, even though the movie Avengers Infinity Wars shows that Loki is killed by Thor, the series created by Michael Waldron takes us back to an alternate reality of Loki with a new timeline.
I love that the author starts that with "for the unversed". They mean themselves? Cause that's not what happened at all 😂
How exactly did Thor kill Loki in IW when the poor thing had been incapacitated by Maw and couldn't even speak? Allow Loki the dignity of his own sacrifice, please. IW Loki is the last time we see the actual character before he was replaced by whatever the hell the individual that goes by the same name nowadays is supposed to be.
PS. Gotta love Hiddleston's words of "There is something really relatable about vulnerability." Yeah, whatever you say, dude. What the series does with Loki's vulnerability is exploit it to the benefit of those around him so they can abuse him as much as they please. But sure, keep talking about how much you owe to the writers... 🤦‍♀️

This was based on Harry Styles life and he produced it too. I've read about it but didn't get a chance to take a peek at it until now. It actually looks funny and fun. Why didn't his fans eat this up? Lol I'm going to watch it.
It came out in October 2018 when Harry still had a Larrie heavy fandom and of course all of them boycotted it for being 'disrespectful to Louis' because it's loosely based on Harry's time living with Ben Winston and his wife. A lot of Gen Z find canned laughter irritating and won't watch sitcoms full stop. It was also only available to watch in the US.

★ Mahurat of Salman Khan, Karan Johar and Vishnuvardhan's film at Mehboob Studios on December 29!
Salman Khan, and Vishnuvardhan gear up for an ode to India's paramilitary officers
And now, Pinkvilla has exclusively learnt the journey of Salman, Karan, and Vishnuvardhan officially begins on this action thriller from tomorrow. The film has been tentatively titled ‘The Bull’ and the journey begins with an auspicious Pooja on December 29 at Mehboob Studios in Mumbai. “Vishnuvardhan wishes to commence the journey on this film on an auspicious note and given that his discussions with Salman and Karan started in 2023, he wishes to end the year with a Mahurat Pooja. It will take place tomorrow in Bandra,” revealed a source close to the development. Interestingly, the Mahurat of The Bull is taking place on December 29, which marks 34 Years of Maine Pyaar Kiya, the day that changed it all for Salman Khan.
The Mahurat will be attended by Salman Khan, side-by-side with the entire crew of this big-ticket action thriller. “The principal shoot of The Bull begins from February and the makers will start constructing the set from Mid-January. Multiple big sets will be put up in the Maximum city as the idea is to recreate the era gone by with authenticity. Salman has allotted bulk dates to Karan and he will be shooting from February to August,” the source informed.
Tentatively titled The Bull, the film goes on floors in February
While many would expect the team to make an official announcement tomorrow, our source insists that the announcement of the film will be made in a big way closer to the date of going on floors. “This is just the Pooja ceremony, and an official announcement will be made with the title by January End/Early February. While its tentatively titled The Bull, the makers are looking at exploring other title options too and announcement shall be made once the title is locked,” the source concluded.
The casting and other aspects of getting world class technicians on board in under way at the moment and Vishnu is committed to making a film that celebrates the heroic mission conducted by the paramilitary troop with Salman Khan as the leader. The film is likely to release during the Eid 2025 weekend. Karan Johar on his birthday wish to Salman Khan on Instagram confirmed their collaboration by saying, "Also, 25 years later, we will finally have a story to tell again… not saying any more than that happy happy birthday.” Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

A lot of the celebrity news articles I get pushed my way are Indian, which if you know me personally probably makes sense. It's usually the Times of India or Pinkvilla but there are others. They all sort of charm me because the Indian Press is just lovely in how old fashioned it is with it's coverage. It's things like, "Kiara Advani says her fans are great!" or it will be the story of two celebrities who are dating now but it won't say that instead it is like, "So and So and So and So were seen Canoodling at a Film Festival... Is Love in the Air?" This isn't because the Indian Press is painfully naive but because it has the same relationship with it's stars that our press did in the 30's and 40's. It is all fluff and it functions as much a PR department as news and the deal is that way the press gets coverage. Nothing embarrassing, keep that quiet. Anyway, this weekend I go all these headlines about Zendaya and Tom Holland being on a boat and they were all Indian and I was like, "Are they in India? Cause this isn't new that they are dating and this is a weird thing to keep sending me". They were in India. Mumbai to be specific for the opening of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre which is a really cool looking building if you haven't seen it. I get why it's a major event, it's huge, it's a massive arts complex, it seems cool. The cool thing for me is plenty of people were there and I am here to tell you they all looked great. Just great. I am going with Priyanka Chopra today because I think I liked her stuff best but don't be stunned if more people show up later. It was a good event for this sort of thing. Today I want to fuck Priyanka Chopra.
