Mermaids and Mermen
Happy Mermay!
1. Scientist works at a rehabilitation facility for injured cryptids and creatures. They’re newest addition to the family is a mer, something they’ve never seen at the facility before.
2. The Pirate Captain has always seen mers as pests. If they’re not trying to drown his men, they’re damaging the ship’s hull or throwing them off course. His policy has always been cannon fire or harpoons, but everything changes when he’s is forced overboard by a mutinous crew in the middle of pod of mermaid.
3. Merperson has made a life for themself as a human in the west, far away from the sea that holds the secret of their true form. But when a potion shipment involving sea water prompts them to transform, they must do their best to conceal the truth from the wild west’s many cutthroats and opportunists while searching for a new spell to get their legs back.
4. It’s a royal alliance like any other, a prince and princess arranged in marriage for the peace and good of their kingdoms. Except one is a human and the other a merperson. As the Mer is the heir to the throne, it’s obvious it should be the human who moves to their kingdom. Underwater. The mers assure them that it’s an entirely possible though admittedly painful transformation process.
5. Mer is the property of an underground fighting ring where different sea creatures are pitted against each other for the gambling amusement of the pirates and fisherman that come into port. Mer has become hardened and savage, never hesitating to tear someone or something apart before they get torn apart first. But when a fresh mer is captured, Mer recognizes them, and they’ll do anything to protect them.
6. Mer is the property of an underground fighting ring where different sea creatures are pitted against each other for the gambling amusement of the pirates and fisherman that come into port. Though they’ve become hardened and savage, they have also grown close to one of their competitors. Though they’re forced to fight often, they tend to each others wounds outside the ring and pray their handlers never realize they’re pulling their punches.
7. The villain tries to feed the hero to the captive carnivorous mers swimming beneath their floors. Joke’s on them though, because one of these mers is the hero’s long lost lover and they’ve been looking for them everywhere.
8. When their parents were hunted and killed, a whale type mermaid is adopted by regular mermaids as a baby. Despite the massive—pun intended—accommodations made to shelter them, their adopted family has always been determined to make sure they are loved and taken care of. But that doesn’t stop Mer from having problems with other mers or from wondering about their own kind.
9. A carnivorous mer and a herbivore mer are captured and sold to a collector. Despite their differing instincts and backgrounds, they must rely on each other to find freedom.
10. A mer from the deep sea is washed ashore in a small fishing village. Though their unconventional appearance makes them abhorrent to many of the townspeople, a visiting scholar takes the displaced mer into their home and offers them kindness, as well as a few hundred questions.

Mermaids.
That was the quest the dread pirate Munson decided to take his crew on today. Were the crew scared? Yes. But they knew better than to go against Eddie when he put his mind to it. No matter how badly they wanted to scream “HAVE YOU COMPLETELY LOST IT?! WE’LL BE KILLED!”
But Eddie was their captain. What he says goes. Even if it may be a death sentence.
“All hands! Batten down the hatches!” Eddie was heard calling out from his spot behind the wheel. “Watch out for those waves!”
“It’s the mermaids,” his first mate and right hand man, Steve, had concluded. “They’re protecting the cove.”
“Well, they’ve yet to encounter us. Gonna take more that a few splashes of water to turn us around. Right men?!”
Small shouts of agreement came from the rest of the crew, hurriedly securing everything on the deck so it wasn’t lost to the waves.
“Drop a rowboat!” Eddie next commanded. “We must row the rest of the way in.”
The men followed in suit, running towards the ropes that help up their rowboats.
“Now,” Eddie continued. “Which of you is joining me in the cove?”
Everyone looked around at one another, none volunteering. Eddie looked at each of the men om board, each immediately looking away so as to not make any sort of eye contact.
“I’ll join you,” Steve had sighed after more moments of silence.
“No. No you stay behind to guard the ship. If we go down you’re next in command.” Eddie continued looked around before his eyes landed on one person in particular. “Dustin,” he grinned, an audible whine left the boy’s lips as he noticeably slumped. “And Robin.”
“Why me?” she began to complain.
“I dunno, you’re a girl aren’t ya?”
“So?”
“Maybe the creatures will feel more comfortable around you.”
“I see something!” their lookout, Lucas, had called from the bow of the ship. “In the water, straight ahead!”
Everyone ran to where the boy was standing to look for what he was referring to. Sure enough, there was a head bobbing on top of the waves, long hair billowing out behind it. Half the men were in awe. The other half, scared to death. Eddie didn’t take the bait. He watched the creature with careful eyes as he lowered their row boat slowly down into the water, unbeknownst to her. He knew that if she saw them they’d be dead in an instant. The larger ship would not be as easy a target.
While the rest of the men were entranced by the mermaid in the water, more began to pop up. One by one, the ship was surrounded.
“Plug your ears, men!” Steve shouted at the helm. “Don’t let their songs reach them!”
Like clockwork, as soon as the men on board plugged their ears, they started to sing. Will nearly had to catch Mike by the collar of his shirt cause he was a second too late and nearly jumped clear over board and into the sea.
“Shouldn’t we help them?” Dustin whispered from his spot on the rowboat. “What if they attack?”
“Steve’s got it,” Eddie assured. “Our goal is their cove. They always leave the weaker ones behind while attacking.”
“So the rest of the crew is to act as bait then?” Robin realized.
“Distraction,” he corrected. “As long as they stay prepared, the beasts won’t be able to sink them.”
“And if we lose some to their siren song?”
Right as the question left Robin’s lips, the trio heard a war cry screamed from the water near the boat. As they glanced back in fear, they saw the hoard of mermaids leaping to action, hurling themselves towards the ship in formation.
“Go,” Dustin told Eddie with his eyes wide. “Go! Row! Row! Row!”
Eddie didn’t need and more urging to increase the speed at which he was rowing their boat towards the cove.
“Quiet,” Eddie ordered as they pulled the boat ashore. “We don’t know how many they left behind. They should be in the heart of the cove.”
Eddie removed his heavy coat and took his guns from their holsters, trying to limit the amount of noise he generated. Robin and Dustin followed suit, all keeping their swords in their spot on their hip just in case.
The trio was in awe at the sights that waited for them past the beach. There were trees hanging towards the ground, leaves swaying in the wind. Waterfalls and babbling brooks could be heard running over the top of rocks in every direction. The grass seemed greener than everywhere else, the water more blue and yet also clearer. They wouldn’t have been surprised if a unicorn had emerged from the bushes at any moment. It was magical.
While the three were marveling at the sights around them. Eddie heard it. Humming. Coming from a nearby pool in the center of the trees. He motioned to the others and put his finger to hips lips, signaling them to be quiet as he carefully drew out his sword, the others following. As they drew closer, Eddie couldn’t help but feel he knew the tune from somewhere.
His suspicions were confirmed, however, when you began singing.
“I’ll swim and sail on savage seas…” she sung, mostly under your breath and just to yourself. “With n’er a fear of drowning.”
Eddie’s breath caught in his throat. It was the song his mother would sing to him as a child. Well before she passed. One of his few remaining memories of her.
“And gladly ride the waves of life…” you continued, a bit louder but still slow and drawn out. “If you will marry me…”
As you said the last line, Dustin seemed to realized you were a mermaid singing, and the fear of being bewitched made him shoot his hands up to cup his ears, dropping the sword he was holding in turn.
“No!” Eddie whispered in protest, reaching for the droppen weapon, but was just a second too late as it clattered to the ground.
You gasped at the sound, turning towards the group and quickly retreating away after seeing them, disappearing into the shadows.
Eddie’s eyes went wide. He had put too much planning into this voyage to lose it all now. He had to do something and quickly.
“No scorching sun, nor freezing cold,” he sang back. His voice far more raspy and no where near as smooth. “Would stop me on my journey.”
Eddie motioned for Robin and Dustin to stay behind as he took a few cautious steps towards you, continuing to sing. “If you would promise me your heart… And love…”
He stood with his hand outstreatch towards you, urging you to come forward. Everyone stood in silence for a long moment. Waiting to see how you would respond. It was evident that not even you knew the answer. Tensions were high. No one knew what would happen next.
Eddie had nearly lost hope after a few more moments of silence. That was until you took another breath. “And love me for eternity…” you sang. Eddie let out a sigh of relief as you moved from the shadows, slowly and cautiously approaching the man.
“My dearest one, my darling dear. Your mighty words astound me.”
As you got closer to Eddie, he approached the edge of the water, attempting to meet you in the middle. Dustin was watching with fear the whole time, afraid you would snap at any moment. No matter how you seemed on the outside, you was still a mermaid. The same breed of mermaids that were attacking their friends not a thousand feet down the coast.
Your lips turned to a shy smile as you continued singing towards Eddie. “But I’ve no need for mightly deeds when I feel your arms around me.”
Eddie knelt down onto he kness, trying to encourage you to be comfortable enough to approach him more.
“My mother sang that song to me,” he said softly, smiling to himself as the memories came flooding back.
By now, you were intrigued. You wanted to know more about the pirate in front of you. He sat in silence after mentioning his mother. You watched as his smile went from a happy smile reminiscing on the past to a sad, sorrowful one. You knew nothing about him, yet wanted to comfort him. You reached out your hand for him to take. Just a small gesture of comfort, it was all you could think to do. His sad smile became a little happier as he connected your hands. He was taught that mermaids were heartless beasts. That they could not feel and would stab you in the back any chance they got.
That must have been the fear Robin felt as she saw her captain in such a vulnerable spot with you, as she dashed forward to protect him. Becoming afraid again, you turned around, trying to swim off as fast as you could. Before you got the chance to get far enough, Robin acted quickly, driving her sword down into the sand, catching the edge of your tail in the process.
“You got her!” Dustin celebrated as your could no longer swim away. Eddie’s eyes went wide as he watched the blood trailing from your fin and becomming diluted in the water. You turned around to face Robin and all Eddie could see on your face… was fear. Sure it was warranted granted you were completely at the mercy of pirates… but he was taught that mermaid felt no emotion. And as far as he knew, fear was an emotion.
“Let’s get it back to the crew,” Robin said, wasting no time in grabbing your arms to hoist you out of the water. You tried to fight her grasp. Your writhed and screamed to no avail. Robin felt as though she was trying to tame a wild cat with the way you scratched at her hands. “Dustin, come help me!”
Dustin rushed to her aid to help and drag you from the pool of water. Despite your attempts to escape, they succeeded.
Almost immediately after you left the water, your tail shrunk and separated into to legs. You stopped your squirming to escape and instead moved you arms to cover yourself, the lack of clothes making you feel quite vulnerable. It only took a moment of Robin and Dustin continuing to drag you across the ground that Eddie stepped in.
“Enough!” he nearly screamed at the two.
“Captain?” Dustin asked, confused. They were, after all, just doing as he asked.
Saying nothing, Eddie took off his coat and threw it over your shoulders, quickly fastening it in the front in order to give you some sense of dignity. Your eyes widened in shock at his kindness towards you. Considering his companions never called you more than an “it”.
“Can’t you see she’s scared?” Eddie hissed at the two.
“She?” Robin repeated.
“She’s scared?” Dustin gawked. “She’s the one who tried mauling us!”
Eddie scoffed at them as he helped you to your feet. As he watched your form tremble beneath him, he was at a loss as to what to do. On the one hand, this was the purpose of the whole mission. To obtain a mermaid. He had done just that. But on the other hand, you looked to be just an innocent girl like this. Not a malicious bone in your body.
With a small, sympathetic smile, Eddie continued to sing to you under his breath. “Through all life’s sorrows and delights,” he sang softly. “I’ll keep your laugh inside me.” And with that, he grabbed your shoulders and carefully pushed you back into the water, allowing you time to escape as he blocked Robin and Dustin from going after you.
“What are you doing?!” Dustin screetched.
“It’ll get away!”
“I changed my mind,” Eddie responded simply.
You watched from the shadows as the three argued. Eddie firmly standing his ground. When the other two backed off, you resurfaced.
“Swim and sail the savage seas,” you smiled towards Eddie. When he turned to face you, you propelled out of the water, wrapping an arm around his neck to pull him to your level. Robin and Dustin both called out in fear, however, when his head reached the water you stopped. You landed a soft, gentle kiss on the pirates lips as a symbol of gratitude and watched as he pulled away with a drunken smile on his lips.
“With n’er a fear of drowning.”
And with that, you disappeared back under the waves.

Hi again, my love!
Can I request something with mermaids?
offers ice cream as well <33
Hi thelazywitchphotographer! Of course! Thanks for requesting this, here you go!
Whumper pushed open the door to their quarters. They were greeted by the quiet cries of Whumpee.
“My darling,” Whumper said, approaching them, “what’s wrong? I would think you would be acclimated to your new life by now…”
Whumpee turned to look at Whumper with tear-filled eyes. Whumper’s own eyes widened at what they saw. Their darling mermaid’s body was littered with deep cuts and angry, purple bruises. Blood trickled down from a nasty gash in their tail, staining the water of their tub with crimson. When Whumper spoke, it was with a fragile, practiced calm.
“Who did this to you?” they asked.
Whumpee sniffled.
“I-I don’t know their name,” they said.
“Describe them to me,” Whumper said gently, “you’re not in any trouble, little fish.”
Whumpee took a deep, shuddering breath, and described their assailant as best they could.
“Crewmate,” Whumper cursed.
Whumper’s hand settled on the handle of their cutlass, they turned to leave when Whumpee’s sniffles brought their attention back.
“Oh,” they said, “forgive me, little Whumpee. Let me treat your wounds first.”
Whumper lifted Whumpee out of the tub in a bridal carry. They deposited them on their bed, then went to a nearby cabinet, fetching medicine and bandages from it. Whumper poured the medicine onto a cloth.
“This might sting, but it’ll help, I promise.”
With that, Whumper dabbed the cloth into the gash in Whumpee’s tail. Their screams made Whumper flinch, but they continued to work anyway. When everything was medicated, Whumper dressed the wounds in soft, white bandages. Whumpee’s screams had died down to pitiful, intermittent sobs by then. Whumper held their mermaid close and ran a hand through their hair.
“Shh, shhh,” they soothed, “you did so wonderful, my little fish. I promise, I won’t let this happen again.”
Whumper grabbed a bottle filled with a strange liquid. They lifted Whumpee’s chin and held the bottle to their lips.
“Drink,” they said, “you need rest. This will help.”
Whumpee knew better than to disobey, so they drank. Whumper smiled softly and helped them into a laying position, covering them with a blanket.
Whumpee slept for many hours. When they did wake, it was to the sound of the door opening once again.
“Whumpee,” Whumper said, “come on deck. I need you for something.”
Whumper picked Whumpee up and carried them out on deck. Whumpee shielded their eyes from the bright sun with a bandaged hand. Whumper sat Whumpee down in another tub that had been prepared for them.
“First Mate,” Whumper called.
“Aye, captain?” First Mate asked.
“Bring forward the scum that thought they could touch what’s mine.”
“Very good, captain.”
First Mate dragged Crewmate forward.
“On your knees, filth,” First Mate growled.
Crewmate shakily obliged.
“Whumpee,” Whumper said, “is this the person who hurt you?”
“I-”
“Tell the truth,” Whumper warned, “I will know if you lie.”
“…Yes,” Whumpee said quietly, “it was them.”
Whumper kissed Whumpee on the crown of their head.
“Thank you,” they said, “because you were honest, I’m going to let you choose their punishment.”
Whumpee stared at Crewmate. Even though the pirate had hurt them, they didn’t want anyone else to suffer.
“Um, maybe, put them in the brig?” WHumpee asked uncertainly.
Whumper smiled and nodded.
“A fitting punishment,” they said, “First Mate, throw Crewmate in the brig.”
Whumpee breathed a sigh of relief.
“-After their twenty lashes. Two for each wound I had to treat.”
Whumpee blinked. Not that!
“No! Captain, please!” Crewmate begged.
“Spare me your mewling before I decide to cut your tongue out,” Whumper said coldly.
“Whumper-” Whumpee started.
“They deserve it, my darling,” Whumper interjected, “you’ll understand one day.”
Whumper picked up Whumpee once again.
“I leave them in your capable hands, First Mate,” Whumper said, “my treasure doesn’t need to watch this.”
Whumper turned and carried their darling back to their quarters, just when Crewmate began to scream.

a siren’s song, stolen
“There are better ways to get my attention, you know.”
The mermaid paused in struggling to free herself from the fishnet to shoot a glare at the pirate captain.
The pirate captain only chuckled quietly before crouching in front of the mermaid. The mermaid winced as the pirate captain unsheathed her knife, but she stilled as the pirate only cut away the fishnet ensnaring her beautiful ocean-blue tail.
The pirate sat back on her heels, twirling the knife in her hands, and taking a moment to study the mermaid.
“Do you have anything to say to me?” The pirate captain asked, her voice lowered so to avoid being overheard by the band of no-good misfits she called a crew. “No siren’s song to pull me back into your good graces?”
The mermaid colored. The pirate captain tried to suppress a flinch back as the mermaid opened her mouth to sing, but the mermaid seemed to choke on her voice. She could not seem to produce her hypnotic melody.
The pirate captain frowned. “No siren song, huh?”
The mermaid shook her head, clenching her jaw. She stayed silent.
Something heavy sank in the pirate captain’s stomach. “No voice… at all?”
The mermaid confirmed with only a nod and the pirate blanched.
A mermaid without a siren song was one thing. Not all mermaids were blessed – or cursed – with the deadly song to begin with. A mermaid without a voice, however, was a completely different matter.
The pirate captain’s own voice grew dangerous. “Who did this to you?”
The mermaid’s gaze grew wistful, and she nodded in the direction of the sunset – towards land.
“A human?”
The mermaid nodded quickly before the pirate could say more, reaching a cool hand to touch the pirate’s chest – her heart. Despite the coolness of the touch, heat flooded the pirate’s body. All of the memories she’d pushed away, hidden at the back of her mind seemed to flood to the surface - the mermaid’s hands on the pirate’s hips, lips brushing between verses of a song in a language only known to the merfolk. The pirate shook herself, ignoring her aching heart.
“Love,” the pirate managed, hoping she was on the right track and not simply projecting an old memory. “You fell in love with a human?”
The mermaid nodded.
Wouldn’t be the first time, the pirate thought bitterly. Still, the pirate had to wonder if just anyone could have succeeded in this pantomime game, or if the mermaid had come to the pirate for that exact reason. Because they knew each other.
The mermaid brushed a hand along the pirate’s forehead just above the eyebrows.
The pirate cocked her head, assessing. “Royalty? The prince?”
The mermaid nodded again.
“You fell in love with the prince and lost your voice?”
This time, the mermaid grabbed at her own throat, desperately clawing as if to rip it out. As if it were not her own hand at her throat but someone else’s. She looked at the pirate, desperate for her to understand.
“Hey,” the pirate said softly. She acted before she could think, taking the mermaid’s hand to cradle it in her own. Anything for the mermaid to stop hurting herself. To stop feeling this hurt.
“He stole it?” the pirate asked quietly.
The pirate knew mermaids could not cry. Not for the first time, she wished they could. The look the pirate got in response was nothing short of heartbreaking.
“Anything stolen can be stolen back,” the pirate mused after a moment. “Right?”
The mermaid’s eyes widened, not daring to believe.
“Right,” the pirate confirmed, more for herself than for the mermaid. “That’s why you came? You needed a criminal?” she teased.
The pirate had to laugh at the reproaching look the mermaid shot at her.
Still, the pirate nodded once again. “Well, little mermaid, it looks like we have a castle to raid.”

“Hero~” Villain sang, flicking her tail softly in the water. “Won’t you join me? It’s so sunny today, and the water is nice and refreshing. Cool off in the water. You won’t regret it~”
Hero smiled, resting her chin on the railing of her ship. “Nah. ‘M good up here.”
Villain frowned. Hero was the only one of those boorish pirates on that wretched ship to have elegance, beauty, and wisdom; it made her the perfect kill, but she was also the only one to resist Villain’s voice. She lashed her tail side to side, pondering. What would lure Hero to her watery grave? “Oh, but you don’t want to bake in the sun. Your crew will get sweaty, too. It’ll smell disgusting. But it smells great here.”
“It smells like fish.” Hero replied, amused. She loaded her harpoon gun. Villain tried so hard. It was endearing. But she wasn’t about to let a siren drag her to her death only because she had a pretty face. So she leveled her gun and hooked her finger around the trigger. “Unless you want a harpoon in your face, I’d strongly suggest you swim away and go back to your siren friends that keep killing my crew.”
Villain’s tail glinted in the sun, and her lips were tucked into a scowl. “You don’t mean that, Hero~” Her voice was velvety and lush, a perfectly seductive drawl that should’ve convinced any pirate to jump into the water and allow themselves to drown at Villain’s hands. “Come into the water,”
“I’m thinking about fish for dinner. Your thoughts on a siren filet?” Hero asked, her head tilted as if to examine cuts of meat at the butcher.
Villain narrowed her eyes, lingering, then dove under the water with one last angry flick of her tail.

In honor of the end of mermay and the start of pride month, here's a sapphic merm!
what do you mean it's already the 10th
Also, here's the original. I spend about i don't know, 8 hours on this, and kind of hated it.
Then i spent about 45 minutes tweaking the colors and adding rain and now i kind of like it again (or maybe i'm just half asleep lol.) I think i need to just start using more muted colors.

Of Fins and Hearts
~ This won't really make sense now without the actual main story being published, but this is a short sweet Part of my EvaJacks mermaid/Pirate Au~
The setting sun shone down on the cobalt blue water, small rocks and shells gleamed beneath the waves. Various birds flew overhead, flying to the beaches during low tide.
Along the rocky pool sat a man. He was no ordinary man. If the jewels and hops that covered his ears could speak, it would've told the shimmering mermaid below the waves to stay away from him.
But in truth the golden scaled mermaid had never truly feared the pirate. He was too similar to her, and how could she be afraid of someone who was just like her?
The mermaid swam closer, her arms close enough to drag him into the depths if she desired. If Luc was around he would've certainly pulled him down into the light less depths. But Luc wasn't here, and Evangeline had no desire to go find him.
As of lately she had been enchanted by the pirate, just as the pirate was with the mermaid.
He was beautiful for a human. His golden locks curled down to the nape of his neck, curling from the salty air. His ears adorned small hops and bright blue and blood red jewels; Something a land dwelling human wouldn't wear. His paleness had turned into a fair gold, giving him in Evangeline's opinion some much needed color. And his eyes, they were the color of water as it slammed into the sandy shore. They seemed to sparkle, something human eyes almost never did.
As Evangeline swam closer to the edge the pirate took notice of her. She watched as he pulled his black boots off and began rolling up the legs of his trousers.
He dipped his feet into the water, as Evangeline golden fins brushed past him. Her fingers grabbed for the stony ledge besides him, and carefully she pulled herself next to the pirate.
Her golden tail was no longer there, and instead was a pair of legs she was still learning to use. Jacks could laugh all he wanted to, he still had a hard time swimming with a tail.
A rare half smile spread over his face, as his sacred and calloused hand ran over her cheek. The mermaid was used to his rough but tender touches by now.
"Hello Jacks," her voice was sweet like it always seemed to be around him. Water dripped from her pink and gold hair onto the rocks.
Her presence always seemed to make him happier.
"Hello my Evangeline. How fairs my love on this fine evening?"
Her heart swelled at his words like it always did.
"She couldn't be happier now that you're here."
The heart shaped necklace that hung from her neck glowed, recognizing the magic both of them held. Jacks had given it to her when he'd finally declared his love. Claiming it was enchanted to give the wearer legs or a tail to be with whoever wore the other half.
And the necklace had worked, letting her be with her love on the land, but also letting him stay with her in the cobalt seas.
Jacks smiled and his hands found their way into her hair. It was much more lively on the sea than on the dry lands. Carefully his worn hands separated her hair into strands and began weaving them together. She would forever be amazed on how easily he could pick up skills. His braiding even put Lala best braids not shame, not that Evangeline would ever tell her friend that.
"The cottage is not far, if you would like to spend the night with me," his voice was teasing like always. But Jacks knew she would follow him almost anywhere, land or sea.
"I think that would be lovely," his hands caressed her sides and she leaned further into his lean body. She began tracing patterns into his firm legs, knowing how much he preened under her touch.
"Is there any special occasion I should know about?" Her tone was teasing but a small sense of panic flashed into her heart that he might've forgotten.
He laughed, a rumbled sounded in his chest, one Evangeline loved more than anything.
He carefully tied off the long braid and moved his hands to her waist, the sole ring on his finger gleaming in the sunset.
"Oh my love, how could I possibly forget?" His warm breath ran across the back of her neck, sending chills and causing warmth to pool in her stomach.
His hands ran across her exposed middle, his thumbs tracing a line along the underside of the shells that adorned her chest. His touch had always had this effect on her, and the scoundrel loved to tease her to no end.
She turned her head to look at the wonderful man who held her, both in his lap and so closely to his heart. The sun gleamed off his earrings but she could only focus on the way it made his eyes glow, the true jewels he owned.
He ran his hand across her cheek and smiled, the most precious and truest smile she'd ever seen.
"How could I possibly forget the day I married my wife, in this very cove during the same golden sunset?"
He finished his question and his lips dove for hers. The same lips that she's seen bark orders at his crew and mermaids alike. But those lips had always been kinder to her than anybody else.
His lips were the smoothest part of his body, for they had not been scarred from violence or hardened by long hours. Even in his earlier cruelties he'd never once used them against her, his lips were the kindest thing about him.
They sang promises to Evangeline's heart more powerful than any Sirens song against a sailor. They kissed away every drop of pain she's ever felt. Healed every inch of the broken hearts they both shared.
And with every sweet word his whispered, with every kiss he placed on her body, scales and all. She never once questioned him or his love, never once thought he'd break any promise.
He promised on their wedding day that, they would always be together in body, soul and mind. And to prove his love he had the Sea Witch make the magical shells that kept their lives bound.
And so here they stayed, along the sea coves. Close to the land and close to the seas, for even when they shed their true natures they'd always be close to home. To each other.
He pulled away from the breathless mermaid and rested his head against hers.
"Jacks," she hummed.
"Yes my love?" His voice was happy but quiet.
She curled her hands into his golden locks, careful to mind the jewels on his ears.
"Take me to the cottage."
And with her words the dreaded Captain Jacks carried his beloved Evangeline back to their home. The smell of the sea following them all the way there and never once leaving them.
All I can say is Jacks with piercings is probably my new favorite thing.

Short Prompt #19
“It’s sweltering today,” the mermaid/man said, fins creating a little wake in the water as they swished back and forth along the side of the ship. “The sun must really beat down up there. Especially when you’re at the helm steering all day.”
The pirate propped one boot heavily atop the bulkhead, leaning one elbow on their knee to peer over the edge and into the siren’s sea foam eyes. “You know if you want me to go swimming with you, you really need to confirm whether or not you plan to drown me.”

Melody had always felt like she didn't fit in Auradon Prep. She didn't share the same tendencies as the other kids. But despite feeling like an outsider, Melody never lost her optimistic spirit.
One day, while wandering around, Melody stumbled upon a group of pirates led by Uma, the daughter of Ursula. Melody was immediately drawn to their charisma and charm, but she still kept her distance, afraid of being rejected once again.
As she watched the pirates, a young man caught her eye. He was tall and lean, with long, wavy hair that fell over his shoulders. His clothes were tattered and adorned with various trinkets and symbols of his pirate lifestyle. Melody couldn't help but notice his striking blue eyes and the mischievous grin that played on his lips.
It was Harry Hook, Uma's first mate and notorious bad boy from the Isle. Melody had heard stories about him, how he was dangerous and unpredictable, but she couldn't help the flutter in her heart when he looked her way.
Harry noticed the shy girl watching him from afar, and he couldn't help but be intrigued by her. He sauntered over, his Scottish accent lacing his words.
"Well, well, what do we have here?" Harry asked, leaning in close to Melody.
Melody's heart raced as she tried to form a coherent response. "I, um, I was just passing by." she stammered.
"Is that so?" Harry smirked. "Well, if you're looking for a good time, you've come to the right place."
Melody blushed at his suggestive tone but couldn't help the thrill that ran through her body. For the first time in a long while, she felt like she belonged somewhere.

Melody couldn't stop thinking about Harry after their encounter. She found herself going back to the same spot every day, hoping to run into him again. And sure enough, Harry started showing up more frequently, sometimes with Uma and sometimes by himself.
They had conversations that were filled with playful banter and teasing, and Melody found herself falling for Harry's charm. She tried to keep her guard up, knowing that he was a pirate and could be dangerous, but her heart had other ideas.
One day, Harry surprised Melody by showing up at her door. She was nervous but excited as she let him in, not quite sure what to expect.
"Hey there, lass." Harry said with a grin. "Thought I'd pay you a visit."
Melody blushed at his attention, feeling a mix of emotions she couldn't quite decipher. "Oh, um, okay. Do you want to come in?" she asked.
Harry walked in and looked around, taking in the small but cozy space. "Nice place you got here." he said, admiring the various seashell decorations and colorful murals on the walls.
Melody felt self-conscious but also proud of her home. "Thanks, I like it. It's not much, but it's home." she replied with a small smile.
They spent the afternoon talking and laughing, sharing stories and getting to know each other better. Harry told her about his life on the Isle, about his father, Captain Hook, and how he had always felt like he had to prove himself. Melody listened intently, feeling a sense of empathy for the boy who had grown up with such legacy.
As the sun began to set, Harry stood up, a mischievous gleam in his eyes. "Well, as much as I'd love to stay and chat, I think it's time for some real fun." he said, holding out his hand.
Melody felt her heart race as she took his hand, not quite sure where he was taking her. "Ready for a not-so-ordinary day, lass?" he whispered, his breath hot against her skin.

As they made their way to the Isle, Harry pointed out the different landmarks and shared stories of his adventures as a pirate. Melody found herself listening to him with rapt attention, hanging on to every word that he said.
When they arrived at the Isle, Melody felt a shiver run down her spine. The place was dark, foreboding, and unlike anything she had ever seen before. Harry noticed her hesitation and put his arm around her shoulder, guiding her through the dark alleyways and across the rickety bridges.
As they walked, Harry flirted shamelessly with Melody, teasing her about her shy and isolated behavior. Melody blushed furiously, feeling both embarrassed and exhilarated by Harry's attention.
Finally, they arrived at a deserted part of the Isle, where the only sound was the gentle lapping of the waves against the rocks. Harry turned to Melody and brushed a strand of hair away from her face.
"Ye look beautiful." he said, his blue eyes twinkling.
Melody felt her cheeks grow hot as she tried to find the right words to say. But before she could respond, Harry leaned in and kissed her cheek, his lips warm against her skin.
"Sorry, love. Couldn't resist." he said, his voice low and husky.

Melody was in disbelief about what had happened. Harry Hook, first mate of Uma's crew, had just kissed her on the cheek. She couldn't help but blush furiously as he walked her back to her house.
The next day, Melody couldn't stop thinking about Harry. She went about her day as usual, attending classes and hanging out with Mal and the other VKs. But every time she saw Harry, her heart would skip a beat.
It wasn't long before Harry noticed Melody's shy and timid behavior around him. He found it amusing and endearing at the same time. He decided to make it his mission to make her feel more comfortable around him.
During lunch, Harry made his way over to where Melody was sitting with the other VKs. He pulled up a chair next to her and flashed her a charming smile.
"Good afternoon, Melody." he said, his accent more pronounced than usual.
"Hi, Harry." she replied softly, feeling her cheeks flush.
Harry noticed her reaction and leaned in closer. "You know, lass, you don't have to be so shy around me. I don't bite... unless you want me to." he teased, winking at her.
Melody couldn't help but giggle at his playful comment. She started to feel more at ease around him, and they spent the rest of their lunch chatting and laughing together.
Despite her initial reservations, Melody found herself falling for Harry Hook. She knew he was a bad boy with a reputation for causing trouble, but she couldn't help but be drawn to him.
Little did she know that their newfound romance would be put to the test sooner than she thought.

It was a warm summer evening, and Harry had invited Melody to go for a walk with him along the beach. As they walked along the shore, the sun slowly setting behind them, they talked about their hopes and dreams for the future.
Suddenly, they heard a commotion coming from behind them. They turned around to see a group of angry pirates from the Isle of the Lost, formerly led by Uma, now feeling like they've been left behind.
"What are you doing here, Hook?" Yzla, the daughter of Yzma, demanded, her eyes flashing with anger. She used to hang out with Uma and her crew when they were trapped in the Isle. She and several other people from the crew refused to step in Auradon as they felt betrayed by their caption and have planned to take revenge.
Harry stepped forward, positioning himself between Yzla and Melody. "I'm here with Melody." he said, his voice firm.
Yzla sneered. "Oh, the little princess. How cute. You really think you can protect her from us?"
Melody shrank back, feeling intimidated by the intimidating pirates. She had heard stories about Uma and her crew and knew they weren't to be trifled with.
Harry didn't back down. "I'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe." he said, his voice low.
The pirates advanced towards them, their intentions clear. Harry took Melody's hand and pulled her behind him, ready to defend her.
Suddenly, a figure appeared out of nowhere, blocking Yzla's path. It was Mal, the queen, and she had a fierce look in her eyes.
"Back off, Yzla." Mal warned, her voice steady. "We won't let you hurt anyone here."
She hesitated for a moment before retreating with her crew, grumbling under her breath.
Harry turned to Melody, a worried look on his face. "Are you alright?" he asked, his hand still gripping hers tightly.
Melody nodded, grateful for Harry's protection. She knew that their relationship had just been tested, and it had come out stronger than ever before.
They continued their walk along the beach after the incident, the sun finally setting behind them, Melody knew that she had found something special with Harry Hook.

The next day, Melody found herself sitting in the park, watching as Harry, Jay and the other VKs played a game of Frisbee. She smiled as she watched Harry's carefree expression, his Scottish accent making her heart flutter.
Suddenly, the Frisbee flew towards her, and she instinctively caught it. Harry jogged over to her, a smirk on his face.
"Nice catch, princess." he said, his voice teasing.
Melody blushed, feeling her heart race. She knew that she was falling for Harry, hard and fast.
Later that day, they walked along the beach, explored the town. It seemed like they were always laughing and teasing each other, their bond growing stronger with each passing moment.
At night, they were on the beach, watching the stars twinkle above them, Harry turned to Melody, his blue eyes intense.
"Melody, I know I can come off as a bit of a bad boy, but I want you to know that I care about you." he said.
Melody felt a rush of emotions flood over her. She had never felt this way about anyone before.
"I care about you too, Harry." she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Harry leaned in, his lips brushing against hers. Melody closed her eyes, savoring the sensation of his lips on hers. It was like nothing she had ever experienced before, and she knew that this was the start of something incredible.
As they pulled away, Harry smiled down at her, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Come on, princess. Let's go see what other adventures await us."
Melody grinned, feeling excited about the future. She knew that with Harry by her side, anything was possible.
