What is up with Nintendo and IntSys having really cool ideas for FEH banner themes and only doing them once or twice

Seriously, there are a lot of really cool themes for the banners in FEH, but for some reason, Nintendo and IntSys only do them for one or two times and never again 😭

The pirate banner? They did it twice. One in 2020 and another one in 2021.

The ballroom banner? They did it twice too. One in 2019 and another in 2020.

The thief banner? They only did it last year, 2022, and never did it again.

The picnic banner? They only did it in 2019, and never again.

For FEH: have you done sena yet? (Limstella, L!Yuri, F!Dimitri, Soren)

I haven't, but that one's a really good pick! I really liked Limstella's art when they were added, and despite my gripes with Yuri, his art is good too.

So yeah, Sena has drawn all of the above. They have some fantastic artwork: their coloring skills are gorgeous, the anatomy is good, the posework is all dynamic, and most of the time they tend to have some neat effects going on in the critical portraits. It seems like they're on the newer end of the artists in FEH (I consider "newer" to be anything from Book 5ish onward) with their first entry being Dimitri, and only continuing to get more characters from there.

One thing I wanna note is that they DO have great expression work, as seen with Dimitri, both in his crit portrait and his damage artwork:

But sadly most of the time they've gotten pretty blank faced or non-expressive characters, like Yuri and Limstella and Soren.

I will say that Limstella had some AMAZING effort done for their artwork, especially how unnatural and creepy their eyes look:

I think Yoneko's an amazing artist and I think Sonia was drawn well, but her eyes simply don't have that same inhuman effect.

Oh, and before I forget, here's some neat effects in their Soren crit artwork:

I like the addition of the magic circle at the bottom.

Now I DO have one criticism of their artwork, and it's that it seems like they haven't drawn a huge range of characters in terms of age and gender. I think they could definitely easily pull off female characters, since Limstella kind of leans into some female physique choices despite being androgynous. But at the same time, I don't know how they'd handle drawing bigger male characters too.

That aside, Sena's art is easily a 9/10. I think IS needs to stop giving them stone-faced twinks though and let them have fun with some more expressive characters. Though I will contradict that sentence by saying I would absolutely love it if they were Zelkov's artist. They'd enhance his gorgeous eyes.

Seeing how so many Tellius character end up in the orienta- I mean, desert banner, I wouldn't want to imagine a PoR or RD remake. At this rate, the only game that somehow managed to escape fanservice were the Jugrals

Judgral's lack of seasonal presence is very much a mixed blessing. On the one hand there's a sort of pride in it being the one FE setting that IS seems to treat with some degree of dignity, at least in the sense that we've never had any Jugdral characters in bunny outfits or Halloween costumes or whatever. On the other, restricting them almost completely to the most conservative seasonal themes (formal dancing, teatime) or to banners tailor-made for Jugdral (the Crusader festival) both restricts the number of alts the characters get as well as keeps them from all the fun, goofy designs seen elsewhere. Pirate Brigid and Lifis are about as silly as Jugdral has ever been allowed to be. I'd really like to see either game feature on the child banner, one of which is coming up in a few weeks. There's plenty of material to work with - the Gen 1 Lord trio at the academy, the Tirnanog kids, Leif and friends on the run pre-FE5 - and that banner theme is relatively serious as far as seasonals go.

As for Tellius remakes, IS may get around to them eventually, though it may be 5-10+ years from now. Who knows what the state of FEH will be by then, or if it'll have a successor gacha so IS can take everyone's money a second time?

my confession that isnt begging people to pirate IntSys games is as follows:

alear is my favourite fire emblem lord/avatar.

alear has such personality. in all her supports she isnt just a blank backboard, she genuinely interacts with her teammates.

you can tell she loves life even though she knows jack all. she loves her friends with her whole heart.

she has genuine trauma around her mothers death, she has genuine deep seated doubts about herself!

she wants to be what everyone needs her to be and forgets to be herself. she wants to save everyone because thats all she knows how to do.

she would die for any of her teammates in a second, regardless of royalty or not. ivy to etie to louis to timerra she wants them all to live so hard.

she wants peace not just because lumera wanted peace, but because she knows peace is the thing all true warriors strive for.

engage is a simple story on the surface, but really, its all about love.

and how the bonds of love can always defeat anything else.

even sombron loved. he let it corrupt him, he let it make him do terrible things to the people he should have loved (all his kids).

in a weird way, even ms mage dragon (forgot her name) loved the four hounds. but sombron had shaped her in his likeness.

the four hounds loved, too.

everyone was propelled by love. alear and veile are simply (heh) emblematic of this core theme.

the only actual downside of engage is no paired endings TELL ME HOW BEING BESTIES WITH EVERYONE WOULD CHANGE THEIR STORIES INTSYS!!!!!!!

Since the FEH New Year banner has thoroughly disappointed but not surprised me, here's some predictions for other banners that have a better shot of featuring my Engage favourites in 2024...

Day of Devotion: Perfect for the flower crown royals of Firene.

Easter: Actually, the only time I ever liked this was when it featured Alfonse and Sharena. The bunny outfits generally weird me out. Please don't dress my blorbos up like that.

Fallen: This NEEDS to be a dragon banner. Red Alear! Evil Veyle! Great Fell Dragon Rafal! Maybe a Corrupted Lumera too? ...Granted, Fallen characters are supposed to be in a state of murderous rage, and Red Alear's mindset is 'please let me stop murdering people I hate it', but the Heroes team aren't always bothered with nuance.

Summer: Since we know what qualifies a character to be on this banner, let's go with swimsuit Nel. Throw in Veyle as well in a cute sundress, let them do some fun sisterly bonding on a beach holiday. It's what they deserve.

Picnic: What's the most awful sandwich filling Chloe can dream of?

Bridal: I have no strong feelings on this theme. Pick some ladies – this means adults, thank you – and put them in fancy white gowns.

Ninja: Zelkov and Kagetsu? Also, please give us Ivy Trio appearances in their canon outfits soon, preferably on the same banner so I only have one target to throw orbs at.

Halloween: Surrender all of your candy to Rafal, or face the Consequences.

Pirates: Bring back the pirate banners! You can dress anybody in an outfit like that and it'll be great.

Besides that, I can only pray male Alear doesn't get thrown into the same never-getting-a-legendary pit as male Corrin. Don't even talk to me about Camilla.
