He's said too much. Usually adverse reactions to his frequent mouth-running don't phase him, but Jesper's obvious discomfort does. There goes the little pang in his heart, the sweat on the back of his neck that tells him that he cannot take back the words he's said. There's only so much playing off and acting innocent he can do, either. His words do have more than one meaning.

Sturmhond busies himself with picking invisible lint off of one cuff of his frock coat, pretending as though he hasn't noticed Jesper draw away. Then he busies himself with sipping his brandy. Acting natural and all that.

"Would you consider your element of surprise to be one of your best traits?" Sturmhond's eyebrows raise, his muddy-green eyes looking up at the sharpshooter through a mop of red hair. "I myself have too many good traits to possibly count, but I'd rank it highly. I've surprised one or two fiends in my life." He runs a gloved finger around the rim of his glass absentmindedly. "I don't disagree. I have a bad habit of proving people wrong. Or is it that people have a bad habit of underestimating me?" He throws an easy wink Jesper's way. "Nonetheless, it is incredibly satisfying when the whole truth is revealed."

steadying breath is drawn in through his nose and exhaled past barely parted lips. there are few things that really managed to get under his skin and itch like a few poor chemical combinations he’s made in the past; somehow, kaz brekker’s habit of showing up to their home with a new proposal for a job to get jesper involved in is one of them. it’s never about the money, not really, not now that they have more than he knows what to do with sometimes. it’s about the thrill of it all, the risk taking. and he gets the appeal, he does, he just wishes 99% of these jobs weren’t highly illegal.

not that that deterred him before, but he was also fueled by different motives before ( spite, mainly, and survival ). now, he’d prefer that they not get mixed up in too much more of it, partially for the sake of keeping this business afloat when its already been tough to keep it steady under new management, but also because he worries about jesper. firsthand experience has taught him how dangerous these jobs can be and how much risk kaz is willing to put people in in order to achieve his goal; doesn’t help that they don’t always know the full plan going in, either. he just wants jesper coming home in one piece, preferably not wanted by the law, is that too much to ask?

“okay, hear me out— it might sound like an appealing, lucrative job…but is it? like, is this one actually worth it?”

❛ i don't think this is a very good idea, ❜ lucy's pressed in close to jesper's back - out of necessity, though it does funny things to her heart - with her hand curled gently into the fabric at his waist as they watch. and wait. and lucy knows that kaz is meant to be some...master of tactical strategy, or something similar, but this feels unnecessarily risky. ❛ i just want that noted, please. when it all goes wrong. ❜

"if anyone ever tells you to get your hair cut," jesper begins, in a warning, husky tone, "they're a villain, and not to be trusted."

in an effort to steer this away from sounding like he's even thinking about giving wylan a compliment (he did have a fondness for those curls, but there was zero stinking chance of him admitting that), jesper adds: "you know how the barrel is. someone offers you a haircut, and next thing you know, you wake up in an alley completely bald and with your wallet gone. happened to ol' tim, i saw it myself."

Wylan reached for his hair, gentle motions smoothing down some of the difficult strands that liked to pop up. At first, he'd been certain Jesper was about to tease him or something as equally annoying but was pleased to find that wasn't the case.

"I wasn't planning to," He replied with a hint of a smile. Was this a compliment? It sounded like a compliment. "But if that bed back at the boarding house becomes infested with mites, I might have no choice..."

He was teasing. Yes, Wylan knew how to tease, despite what Jesper might believe. Before the gunslinger could react, he grinned. "Don't give me that look. I'm moving out of that place in two days, so my hair should be safe... Unless the Slat is also prone to bug infestations...?"

Nah, Kaz would never allow that.

meta + pets!!

well i mean aside from the fact amelia naturally attracts animals so it’s not uncommon for one of her mother’s cats or her brother or father’s dogs to also be with her along with her companions. it’s also not uncommon for other nobles pets to find their way to her if they are brought to court.

to start she has her two irish wolfhounds named laurel and indigo. she raised and trained them herself since they were pups and are faithfully loyal and incredibly well behaved. rarely do you see them far from their princess, either glued to her side or at the very least within their sight.

then there’s her shire horse, clover. he was not in the lineup of horses her father had picked as potential matches for her. he was unruly, refused to be stabled and seemed to dislike most people. but amelia had spotted him first and for whatever reason set her heart on him. to everyone’s surprise clover actually listen and followed her out of the field when she went to go collect him. he’s still unruly, and skeptical of a lot of people but the worst he will do is give you a hard side eye. at amelia’s request he isn’t stabled in the barn unless absolutely necessary and there’s no denying that she has absolutely softened him.

Nico tends to think of fashion and clothing in a very utilitarian manner. His one requirement for his clothing is that it needs to be black/dark colored, and ideally comfortable, but he will sacrifice some comfort for the color. Other than that, he doesn’t tend to think about clothing. I do headcanon that when he grows out of his bomber jacket, he gets a long dark duster coat and he thinks that makes him look very cool.

He hasn’t ever received clothing as a gift-- although now I can’t help but imagine a montage where Jesper gets him some clothing now--but I feel like he would be little underwhelmed with clothing given to him as a present. Then again though, I feel like he would enjoy receiving accessories like pins or other bits of jewelry? Things that he could fidget with like his skull ring, he would probably enjoy getting.

2. NOTP(s) for your muse? Darkolai. I have very strong opinions about just how much d.arkolai doesn't work and how very wrong it is. I'm fully convinced that, in order to write dark.olai, either the Da.rkling or Nikolai need to be written completely OOC. For example, writing Nikolai in that ship would completely negate the trauma that the Darkl.ing inflicted on him and, in some cases, make him complacent in the abuse done by the Dar.kling onto his friends and family. Add to the fact that if darklina is completely abhorrent and the Dark.ling was around Nikolai when he was a child and Nikolai isn't that much older than Alina... how is da.rklina grooming while dark.olai isn't?

10. A ship in your fandom you love (that does not include your muse)? WESPER! I enjoy Jesper and Wylan's dynamic and I think separately they're very interesting, complex characters with backstories that I find completely intriguing... but then you put them together and!!! CHEF'S KISS! Add to the fact that Nikolai loves them both and is *chin hands* at them. They deserve all the nice things tbh.
