I had Snap out for a few minutes this morning. He’s getting a good bit of color with each shed! None of my janis have ever struck at me but they definitely get annoyed and show it, Snapdragon may give an occasional little tail rattle but is easily the most friendly of the group.
Dahlia is a little more responsive than Snapdragon but still has never offered to bite. She’s very bold and confident and a tiny bit assertive. Pine snakes are seriously so smart and have so much to offer hobbyists of most any “experience level”. Mexican pituophis have a little more specific husbandry and feeding requirements but not difficult by any means. If you’ve never looked into them before I really recommend it!
It’s finally cool enough to take the janis outdoors! Marigold is such a good snake. She still tail rattles and tells it like it is but she’s just talkative.
Snapdragon (Pituophis deppei jani) is still not 100% healed but is looking much better after a shed. He’s still got some stuck around his neck and face that I’ll have to work on later. I’m lucky he’s so tolerant and sweet.
