Calico out for a few nice weather pics. Wanted some of Prickly Pear too but he had other plans. They’re around 30” and feeding on lg hoppers, gotta grow these kids slow!

If people try to tell you individuals of the same snake species don’t have distinct personalities / temperaments they either don’t know what they’re talking about or are kidding themselves.

You can certainly build trust with the vast majority of snakes, but some are definitely easier to work with than others, even in the same species.

Finally offered them f/t mouse hoppers today! I’m always nervous moving these guys up a size (they’re sensitive little dudes!) but they are eagerly like it was no big deal so they’re most likely fine. Will just have to keep an eye on them the next couple days!

I’m continuing to make positive progress with Prickly Pear! He rattled a tiny bit when I picked him up but quickly settled into my hand. He’s still very tense but is workable and that’s really all I ask.

Y’all haven’t seen Prickly Pear in a while! He has always had a horrible disposition so I’ve been working with him very slowly and have been trying to get him to associate people with neutral to positive experiences, thankfully Pituophis are smart enough to make that possible. It seems to be starting to pay off! Yesterday I had him out to clean his cage and he only rattled a little and didn’t attempt to bite at all! BIG improvement, this is the first time I’ve handled him that he hasn’t made me bleed haha. Hopefully we can continue to make progress; I’d prefer him to at least be workable as a 6-7’ adult.
