trying to get the "one shot" achievement on hyper light drifter is making me wanna give soulsbournes a shot

#so far i've made it through west north and east. so. pretty good #hyper light drifter #but ngl i've always been really enamoured with the lore and monster designs of those games. i just #i dunno I guess i feel like i would get lost. everything so dark #also in general i don't play a lot of 3d #games like that. i'm a top-down girlie forever i love pixels too much #even botw which i love is at least bright #anyway if anyone reads this far in the tags and has a dark souls/bloodbourne/elden ring type game they wanna recommend.      The Maintenance Core's primary directive is a particular testing track, so the Logic Core has not often considered going to them for assistance. However Virgil has offered help before when Logic was in the area, so it makes sense he would do so again.      Even so the unprompted offer had confused the Logic Core at first.      ❝Thank you.❞ Flat tone, but there is something bright in those normally dull optics as he watches Virgil. It does not bother him to see parts of himself splayed open for maintenance. The humans once did the same. It is simply appreciated that someone would... care for him, in such a manner these days.      ❝I had assumed your engineering experience to be solely with testing elements. Have you repaired other personality cores?❞ A dual-purpose question; perhaps a core from his team has come to see Virgil between their last encounter and now. And perhaps he will learn more of Virgil's capabilities. Has he taught himself since the humans died or was he programmed with more skills than previously known? All useful data to have.

Lightning Review; Hyper Light Drifter

I don't think there's ever been a game that I've felt more lost with than Hyper Light Drifter.

Truly a feast for the eyes with it's gorgeous pixel art but not only that, it can run at 144fps!

Developer Heart Machine really kicked a goal with their debut game, and I've never been more glad to have no idea what was going on.

The 7 hours I spent wandering through this strange but beautiful world, fighting monsters and finding thing was honestly an experience. The soundtrack also matches up with the visuals; outside of battle you are lulled with 16-bit (I'm probably wrong here) ambiance that ebbs and flows, transitioning smoothly into something a bit more fitting for combat when it happens.

At the time of playing it I think I was a little frustrated at the lack of direct storytelling. You're very much left to your own devices in figuring out what is going on. Were I to revisit this game I think I'd pay a bit more attention to what was being shown.

This game definitely felt like it played better on controller since you do have to do some multi-button actions that are more comfortable on controller, but that is a minor gripe and won't impact your enjoyment of the game.

If you feel like you need an adventure in a retro styled world, with modern gameplay and secrets to find, Hyper Light Drifter might just fit the bill.

BRO? #i need more smooth lines or pre rendered 3d or actual 3d #every time a new game comes out and it still uses pixel art i die inside a little. #i think dead cells kills me the most bc you see it was 3d but they made it pixelated anyway. Why #sometimes i don't mind but other times you can tell that the game would benefit ALOT from looking different #this is just like lego ninjago. Where the style undercuts the awesome action and/or horror scenes
