1k Competition!! (draw this in your style)

so my survey ended up with some... mixed results (also @ the person who just clicked no to everyting: why r u like this) so!!! i have done some Figuring Out

though more ppl said they’d participate in an event, competition seemed more popular (based off he last question) so here we go!!! a Competition!!!

your challenge: draw my art (somewhere down below on this post i didnt plan this out before i started writing) in your style!! the competition will run until august 22 bc thats gcse results day and it seems convenient

i didn’t wanna do a sprite bc then its rlly just asking u to draw a character, which most ppl do anyway,, so instead i reminded myself of exactly why i dont draw things with lighting or in my traditional style with pixels but lets not go there

here it is!!: (with or without the northern lights bc im still unsure how i feel about them)

to enter the competition, re-draw this image (either of them lol) in ur own style and post it with the tag “#pixeltalia1k” because that seems like a sensible tag !!

prizes: (bc that feels important,, the number of prize winners will depend on how many ppl actually enter)

1st: an icon/profile pic, a short animated gif and a larger pixel illustation (in the sprite/chibi-ish style!! bc i feel too self-concious about my other style to give it as a prize) (maybe i could try one of those pixel box things??? anyway itll have a background)

Pixeltalia 1k Competition Winners!

so! i’d like to start this off by thanking everyone who entered! all ur entries were amazing to look at, honestly the whole thing felt surreal. i definitely didn’t expect so many amazing artists to enter!

finding three winners was... difficult to say the least, but (with the help of gil) i’ve finally managed to narrow it down! we’ve added a “runner up” position bc there were just so many we liked wow. im not good at explaining bc i think art gcse stole all my art-related words from me but im gonna try my best to give a description of why each one was chosen :))

so, without further ado bc theres already been too much waffling on this post:

SPECIAL MENTION

we rated the entries on a list of criteria and while this entry didn’t reach top scores on all of those, i absolutely love just like,,, the whole style of it. it’s smooth and vibrant and maybe im just a bit of a weeb and rlly like the anime influences.

THIRD PLACE

both gil and i agreed that the perspective on this one is Impressive. it looks rlly dynamic! the art style is cute and consistent and the colours set a certain tone that i cannot put into words.

SECOND PLACE

the style of this entry is so soft and sweet. the use of coloured lighting makes the scene look consistent without being overpowering and the northern lights themselves look both polished yet convincing. :))

FIRST PLACE

the level of detail in this entry is astounding; gil’s example was the white eyelashes but honestly it’s everywhere - the reflection of the lights on the ice/water, the shading that contrasts the snow and the rock, making them both look solid and yet textured very differently... the use of different tones to create shadow gives the whole image a feeling of depth and the more limited colour palette ties the whole thing together. the style is consistent and unique and definitely stood out among the other entries! im gonna shut up now bc this is more analysis than i did at school but i could go on for a While about this one
