Maturing is realizing that Luke Castellan was never the villain. The gods and Kronos were. He was just an angry kid who felt forgotten and ignored by his father and the other gods. He was used and manipulated by Kronos the same way the gods used him and other demigods before. And Percy Jackson and the Olympians is about the cycle of abuse and neglect. From Kronos, to the gods, to the demigods; from Kronos who ate his children, to the gods who ignored theirs. Then along comes Percy Jackson, Percy who recognized the cycle and said no more, Percy who used his one gift from the gods to make sure they never let what happened to Luke happen again. No more forgotten and angry children left to fend for themselves, left to grow resentful of gods so much so they end up being used and manipulated by Kronos who was just as bad as the gods and worse. No more Luke Castellans. Maybe Luke didn’t break the cycle but Percy did because of him and that’s so important.

About Luke.
as we all know (if you’ve read the books) his mom (May Castellan) tried to become the new oracle, to fit that into her own body. what she, and the rest of the camp, wasn’t aware of was that Hades had cursed the oracle. so there she was, my sweet may trying to take the spirit into her body, thinking she could help everyone but instead she went insane, plagued with fits and having shattered glimpses of her son's future. she saw what Luke could (would) become and she refused to believe that it was a prophecy, that this was his fate. so she clung onto the hope it wasn’t true. she was desperately fighting against the cruel truth, praying it wasn't his inexorable fate. and to this day May is still waiting for her son, her sweet son, to come home. even amidst her descent into madness, her love for Luke remained unwavering and her love persisted even in the darkest corners of her insanity. though it choked him to the point he had to leave.
and have you ever considered for a moment that in order to partake in a quest the campers are required to talk to the oracle? have you ever for one second thought about Luke doing that? and do you think he got flashbacks? do you think he remembered his mother, in her familiar maddened state, holding and clutching onto him, expressing gratitude for his lack of golden eyes, spewing out that ominous green mist? do you think this worsened his hate - after he failed? the quest was always meant to be failed but it was also a reminder to him he wasn’t but a mere second thought to his father. the inability of his father to assign something unique or original to him, a quest that wasn't a mere duplicate, must have compounded Luke's feelings of inadequacy and marginalization. there he was, having to watch and listen to a mummy who reminded him of the cemetery he called home, but his father couldn't muster enough care or concern to bring life back to his existence, leaving Luke to grapple with his own emotional graveyard.
and in this essay I will be —

How Hermes talks about Luke to others: (the most adoring, protective, forgiving father you've ever met, full of praise and admiration, refuses to give up on him no matter what crimes he commits, defends him to the heroes and begs them to show him mercy, utterly crushed by regret for his own failures)
How Hermes talks to Luke:

My thoughts on the trailer?
1. AAAAAHHHHHHH MY BOY! MY BOY WAS IN IT AND HE HAS HIS SCAR AND HE LOOKS SO GOOD! 😭😭😭❤️
2. All of the actors look to have done an amazing job and I cannot wait!
3. With Hermes being in the casino it actually opens up the opportunity for them to add in something really cool that we don’t get to see in the books until much later in the series. What is that? To see how Hermes and Annabeth react to each other or the mentioning of Luke.
Think about it. Annabeth had met Hermes first when Luke and Hermes had their big fight that one night at May’s house. I would love to see Annabeth coming face to face with Hermes and saying like, "oh, your Hermes. Luke’s father." And see just how Hermes reacts to that.
See if he reacts at all. Just seeing how those two interact with each other would be very interesting to see.

pjo trailer dropped.
There is no Luke and the poster confuses me on so many levels, so all I have to say is that the last silver of hope I’ve been holding out of respect to the franchise has proved to be in vain.

Can't sleep random idea I have for Lukercy:
Tumblr media
I've been listening to better place by nsync on repeat. And I keep imaging Luke and Percy dancing to it. Either in the kitchen of their tiny apartment being soft and cute, making blue pancakes while it plays on their radio. Or (and this one is insane) having to put on this show to all of olympus gods and all the demigods both Roman and Greek. Luke dressed in gold and white with his fathers symbol on his back. And Percy in a flowing ocean blue Greek type outfit. And they dance pretty well together. And it gets everyone so excited that everyone gets up to dance too(except Annabeth, gets angry and leaves in a huff). Luke and Percy look so happy. Sorry this is random. But I wanted to write the idea down before I lost it. Plus I don't even know if it's in character for Luke and Percy to be able to dance. But whatever. I don't care. And all this idea came from a trolls movie song! Lol 😆 There's just something about the song. Also lol 😆 I imagine Luke and Percy singing too as they dance.

Reasons why Put You In Your Place from The Lightning Theif is an amazing song:
1.) "Prepare to be pulverized, newbie!" I can't remember if this is an actual quote from the book, but I feel like Clarisse definitely said this. also, what a great way to introduce a song and character ahhhhhh
2.) "You're gonna drown. You ain't gonna float." I saw someone point out how Sarah, the actress portraying Clarisse, sings a higher note on 'drown and a lower note on 'float', like how in Hamilton, King George III sing a lower note on 'rise' and a higher note on 'fall'. I just thought this concept was interesting and worth sharing. Plus, Sarah's singing voice is so amazing!!!! also, how funny is it that she told Percy that he'd drown lol
3.) "Don't worry. Athena always has a plan." ANNABETH 😫😫
4.) "Every demi has a special skill (special skill). Speed of brains, or the strength of will (strength of will)." I know it's literally just Chris singing back up vocals for Kristen, but it literally sounds like Percy hyping Annabeth up and it makes so much sense. Plus, the 'speed of brains or the strength of will' is not-so-subtly talking about percy's and annabeth's individual strength's and we love that lol
5.) "She could capture your heart. I'm gonna ca-ca-ca-ca-capture the flag!" I like how they have Clarisse be the first person to mention Percabeth's potential since it was Clarisse that interrupted Percabeth's kiss after the war. She totally ships it hahaha
6.) "Go to the boy's bathroom." "And?" "Stay there. It's your first day. We don't want you messing this up." Yeah...annabeth wasn't the nicest person to him at first, and I'm glad they acknowledge that. I also love how they combined capture the flag with the bathroom scene. real smart on their part.
7.) "Your goose is cooked. I'm here to cook it." how are you gonna re-cook and already cooked- you know what? nevermind, clarisse lol
8.) "You face a monster on your very first day? You lucky punk! Now, newbie, you're gonna pay!" here
9.) "I'll put you in your place!" and then percy becomes one with plumbing and puts clarisse in her place. love that.
I absolutely adore rock music, and a rock song just makes sense for capture the flag and for clarisse as a character. also, an annabeth cameo!!

@captainderyn: #wait dot Tyr has a bladesmithing hobby tell more?
I... forgor I have probably only directly said this to Joel and maybe only hinted at it in tags sometimes, lol. But uhh! Yea! For a while, my Selected Streaming was whatever seasons of Forged in Fire were available on said streaming service - which to save the unfamiliar a quick google search is, in short, a bladesmithing competition show where four competitors compete in three rounds of bladesmithing, typically with an elimination in each round - ultimately with two competitors recreating an assigned historical weapon with a winner determined through various weapons tests. It's not a hobby I could ever say I'd pick up myself, but it's very interesting to see the craftsmanship and the process and so, as one does when one has blorbo brain... I decided that was a fun thing to pick up and run with.
There's been idle jokes of Alliance Jenga nights and the like because I imagine Tyr's... hands on, typically. He likes to do things, keep his hands occupied - a softer transference of his training primarily as an operative. And I figure as weapon maintenance is already important to him and his work as a Cipher... given the opportunity, it's a process he'd enjoy learning about.
So, in short, knifemaking is a hobby he explores in what downtime he finds as Alliance Commander - primarily through the blacksmiths and other such trades that come to partner with the Alliance over time. Tyr generally keeps relatively quiet about it. Forging is several hours he can get to himself and just kind of tune the world out, physically working on something that can require some problem solving that... occasionally helps him sort through the shit in his head, too.
Anyway! That's how Tyr picks up bladesmithing as a sort of... soft retirement hobby. He gets interested chatting up a couple Alliance personnel, ends up asking them some questions, and learning from some of them. While I imagine he typically makes blades with the intention to see them used, him and Izvoye (@hyrohkaah) have gotten lost in some historical records at times trying to parse together historical techniques. (And as a lil bonus, part of his proposal to her in their lil 'verse together is forging a ceremonial blade for her that leans a bit more heavier into artistic and craftsmanship techniques and skills than the kind of blades he tends to use as an agent.)

Lee Fletcher and Luke Castellan go to their execution, dance in an embrace and sing "7 days"...
[explanation, — in this AU Lee was the second traitor and spy in Camp Half-blood, as well as Luke's lover. Luke either does not die After the departure of Kronos to Tartarus, or he is specially resurrected for public execution on Olympus.]
