[#BookReview] A Bright and Blinding Sun - An amazing true story of a 14 year-old soldier who fought on Bataan in WW2 and became a POW after it fell. His life story of ups and downs is nothing short of incredible. Like in his other wonderful books, I love how @marcusbrotherton draws out the gritty realities of the human condition and reveals the power of hope and redemption that is available even in the darkest depths. Today marks 20 years since my dad went home to the Lord. Featured here are pictures of my dad doing what he loves in his younger days. I think it can quite clearly be seen where this aviation and military enthusiast got some of his inspiration from 😆. However, I am utterly awful with musical instruments 😬 unlike my dad who relished playing the harmonica and ukulele. Apparently, he was really good with the bass harmonica.😮 Grateful for all the memories we have of him and how his legacy lives on in us in unique ways. Glad he contributed his growing up stories to the National Archives (@nationalarchivessg) in an Oral History project back in 1993. Now in digital format, we are able to retrieve his recollections and keep for posterity a good part of my family history. They are available for access to anyone who has an interest in learning more about what life was like in Singapore during the 1930s to 1980s. Another moose (C17) I caught with a tagline at the nose - “Go for Broke”. A great motivational tagline to adopt for the new year. 👍👍💪💪 This C17 from the Hawaii Air National Guard is one of a number of C17s with commemorative nose taglines. “Go for broke” was the motto for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in WW2 which was composed of almost entirely 2nd generation American soldiers of Japanese ancestry. Most of these Japanese-American soldiers were from Hawaii. They served with distinction in WW2 becoming the most decorated combat unit in US military history. Considering the discrimination their family members faced being interned in concentration camps in the US during that time, these soldiers went all out to prove their loyalty, bravery and fighting qualities. No kidding, I see 2 C2s. 😅😬😆 Caught these two C-2A(R) Greyhounds from VRC-30 Detachment 5 flying in on a hazy evening. The Greyhounds are on their last legs of service life. They have been fulfilling Carrier Onboard Delivery (COD) missions since the late 1980s and are expected to be retired from service by 2024. They are in the midst of being replaced by the tiltrotor CMV-22B Osprey multi mission aircraft.
