Danny talks to his clone before Maddie and Jack arrive to kill him.

-----
Danny shot up into his room, almost hitting the ceiling before correcting and bringing himself down to the floor. Clone 26 was sitting up on his bed, holding and massaging his head. He jumped when he saw Danny, his eyes wide.
"What the hell are you?" the clone demanded.
"You need to leave," said Danny. "Now."
The clone creased his brow. "What? Why? What are you—"
Danny held up his gloved hands to stop the clone. The room was dark except for his ghostly glow, which provided just enough light for Danny to see the clone's confused expression. "I have very little time to explain. Mom and Dad are going to be here any minute, and you need to get far away from here."
"I—hold on—are you Amorpho?" The clone's eyes looked him up and down. "Or some other ghost?"
"No." Danny glanced at the door before returning his attention to the clone. "This is gonna be hard to hear—it's hard for me to say—but you're not who you think you are."
The clone raised a brow. "What are you—"
"You're a clone," said Danny, almost desperately. "Remember Vlad's cloning technology? He created you. And you can't stay here or you're going to be killed." Danny paused, shuddering. "Or worse."
"I—I don't—I don't under—no, I'm not a clone." The clone got off the bed and stood. "I don't know what kind of weird trick this is, but—"
The clone clenched his fists by his sides, and a ring of light materialized around his middle. Danny rushed over and grabbed at the clone's right shirt sleeve, pulling it up and exposing his bare upper arm. The ring of light vanished as the clone stared down at the black number 26 tattooed on his skin.
The clone's mouth hung open for several seconds. Danny could see the bafflement in the clone's eyes as he continued to hold up the shirt sleeve.
"When—" The clone's eyelids fluttered. "How—"
"You have to leave, you have to hide," said Danny. "And you can never come back. Do you understand me?" Danny dropped his voice to a whisper as his throat tightened. "If you come back, they'll kill you."
"Who?"
"Mom and Dad."
The clone pulled his arm away, his sleeve slipping out of Danny's hold. "What? No—"
"They're behind it all." Danny's voice was raspy now. "They always have been. I thought it was crazy at first too, but it makes so much sense now. Doesn't it?"
"No, none of this makes sense," spat the clone. "What the hell is going on? Who are you?"
Danny sighed and lowered his eyes to the floor. "Right now, I wish I was you."
The clone blinked several times, looking utterly perplexed.
Heavy footsteps thudded up the stairs and down the hall, coming closer. Danny rushed to his bedroom door and locked it just as Maddie tried opening it. She jiggled the doorknob once, then again and again, getting more violent each time.
"Danny?" She banged on the door. "Danny, open this door now."
The clone stared at the door, his jaw completely slacked.
"We have to take care of that clone, Danny," yelled Maddie. "Let us in right now. Jack, can you get this open?"
"What, you want me to blast through the door?" asked Jack.
"No, obviously not. Where's the key pin?"
"We keep it on top of the doorframe. Here, it's right here."
The doorknob started jiggling again, then it began to turn. Danny grabbed it and put all his weight against the door.
"You have to leave," hissed Danny. "They're here to kill you."
"But I—" The clone shook his head as he backed up against the wall. "But I don't understand."
Jack and Maddie managed to get the door open a crack, but Danny shoved back as hard as he could. He pushed the heels of his boots into the floor.
"Go," cried Danny. "Go!"
The clone pressed his palms to the wall, never taking his eyes off the door. "But—"
"Get as far away from here as you can." Danny grunted, gritting his teeth. "Maybe the Ghost Zone. Just make sure it's somewhere they'll never find you."
The clone's eyes were wide, his face drained of color. He did not move, frozen in place, but his entire body was shivering.
"You're the lucky one here," said Danny, his eyes filling with tears. "Trust me."
He and the clone stared at each other with heaving chests.
And then Danny's strength gave out as Jack and Maddie kicked open the door and barged into the room, goggles on, ecto-guns in their hands. Danny fell to the floor on his knees, gasping and panting. Maddie trained her gun on the clone, aiming right at his head. The barrel of the gun lit up, whirring with ghostly energy.
The clone's eyes bulged, but still he did not move. He pressed himself into the wall as much as he could.
Danny choked on a sob as he jumped up from the floor and threw his shoulder against the barrel of Maddie's gun, bumping it to aim upward instead. The gun went off, blowing a smoking hole through the ceiling.
The clone was at last jarred into action, transforming and phasing through the wall behind him. Maddie dashed to the window and threw off the blinds, almost tearing them down as she got behind them and slid the window open. She leaned out, scanning the neighborhood and the sky above. She moved her goggles on top of her hood to get a better look.
"We have to find him," she muttered in a panic. "We can't let him—where's my scanner—"
The blinds clattered and nearly broke as Maddie shoved them away from her and rushed toward the door. Danny grabbed her wrist, forcing her to stop. She attempted to pulled away, but Danny only tightened his grip.
"You are not going to leave," said Danny. "You are going to stay right here."
"Danny." Maddie held up her free hand holding the gun. "Danny, please, don't make me—"
Danny's other hand shot out and grabbed the gun, twisting her arm and wrenching the gun out of her grasp. He tossed it across the room, where it spluttered a couple times and then quieted.
"You are not going to go after him," grunted Danny. "Not now, not ever."
Danny forced both of Maddie's arms behind her back and was able to hold her in place despite her squirming and jerking. He was now bigger and stronger than her, and his ghost form only enhanced his strength as he used one hand to hold her arms and the other to wrap around her front, pressing her back into his chest.
"You are never to go after him," Danny continued. "You are never to look for him. If you harm that clone in any way, I will find out."
Danny's mouth was close to Maddie's ear now.
"And you will have to answer to me," he hissed.
"Danny, I don't expect you to understand." Maddie arched her back, still struggling to free herself. Her voice was strained as she spoke. "But I promise I will explain later if you just let me—"
"No. You've had plenty of time to 'explain' the truth to me and you said nothing while you continued with this sick experiment, so you don't get to try to 'explain' anything to me now." Danny tightened his hold. "Nothing you say could ever convince me that killing my clone is the right thing to do."
Maddie panted and jerked some more. She looked at Jack with wide eyes.
"Jack, help me, please," she begged, breathing heavy.
Still wearing his goggles and holding his gun, Jack stared at Danny and Maddie, not moving. Danny tensed as he stared back, wary because yes he had grown over the past couple years and now surpassed his mother in size and strength, but his father was still much bigger, bulked up in size, height, and muscle that Danny could not match without his ghost powers.
And did he have it in him to actually use his powers against his own father?
Or his own mother?
How far was he willing to go to ensure they did not harm the clone?
Jack locked stares with him a moment longer. Then he lowered his gun and took his goggles off. "What do you want me to do, Maddie? Should I shoot him?"
Danny could feel Maddie freezing in his hold.
"You want me to shoot our son? Is that what you're asking me to do?" asked Jack.
Maddie said nothing. Jack switched off his gun and set it on Danny's desk before stepping away.
"I'm done," said Jack. "I'm done with all of this."
Maddie shook her head. "Jack—"
"That clone should've never existed in the first place," said Jack. "It's out of our control now, Maddie."
He looked straight into Danny's eyes.
"This entire experiment is no longer in our control," he said in a low voice.
Danny was almost spellbound as he continued staring at Jack. He loosened his hold on Maddie, and she was quick to jerk away from him.
"That clone's existence puts all of us at risk," said Maddie, emphasizing with a point of her index finger toward the floor. "The Guys in White could capture him, and then they'll find out who he really is, what you really are—" She gestured to Danny. "—what we've done. We'd all be taken away."
Danny again remembered the tattooed number 26 on the upper arm of an alternate version of his ultimate enemy.
"I understand the risks with letting the clone go," said Danny with a couple slow nods of his head. "I'm not changing my mind."
Maddie snarled and turned on her heel to leave, but Danny blocked her way out the door.
"You two aren't leaving my sight tonight," he said sharply.
Maddie huffed and crossed her arms, jutting out one hip. "What, you're just going to make us stay here?"
"Yes." Danny pointed to his bed. "You two are going to sit on my bed, and I'm going to make sure you don't go out hunting for that clone."
Maddie and Jack both stared at him, Maddie with hot anger and Jack with bewilderment. Danny swallowed and panted, trying to hide the shakiness in his muscles because this was so strange, this change in roles, giving his own parents orders, essentially grounding them in his own bedroom.
He didn't like it. This wasn't how it was supposed to be, not how he was raised.
But he had no choice. His parents could no longer be trusted.
No, actually, his parents could never be trusted. He was only just realizing it now.
Maddie narrowed her eyes. "You can't just keep us here forever, Danny."
Danny sighed and looked toward his window. The blinds were bent in several places, letting in soft moonlight that cast strange shadows on the walls.
"I know," he said quietly. "But I'm going to give that clone the best head start he can get."
The room was silent for several long moments. Only the sound of heavy breathing.
Jack was the first to move, taking a seat on the bed, his heavy frame causing the mattress to sink low. Maddie stubbornly glared at Danny a little longer, her cheeks glowing hot, but then she also stomped to the bed and sat on it, crossing her legs, her higher foot bouncing with irritable energy.
Danny attempted to catch his breath. He was still shaking, his nerves stirring, his ectoplasm spiking with adrenaline, his skin shimmering with ebbing spectral light.
Outside his bedroom door, he could see Jazz's silhouette, unmoving, only listening. Danny slowly stepped to his door and shut it.

Of Course Not(tm)
Kind of continued from this post I made a bit ago.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
The bats are on a manhunt looking for whoever took their youngest. (Damian would not just enter an unmarked vehicle)
Nightwing, Red hood, Signal, Batgirl and Orphan all taking the streets while Batman, Red Robin and Oracle all look over the last known footage of Damian, walking stiffly with glowing red eyes. (Obvious mind-control, but why couldn’t he break out of it?)
“Uh, Batman?”
Suddenly, they get a FaceTime call invite on the Bat computer. (Batman has Bat-call, not FaceTime?!?)
“Answer, I’ll trace it.” Oracle says tersely. Red Robin hesitantly pushes the accept button.
“Ancients, you sure took your sweet time with that.” A blue-eyed clone of Damian snarks out the minute they enter the call.
“Where is Damian?” Batman growls out.
“He’s… fine. Well, fine as he can be at the moment.” The clone says, then mutters something under his breath.
“Anyways, could you come and get him? I’d drop him off, but I’m kind of busy at the moment.” He says as he’s furiously typing away at the computer.
“The signals heavily encrypted, I can’t get a read past somewhere in Illinois.” Oracle reports.
“What is the League planning.” Batman demands.
That makes the clone pause. “The League isn’t involved.”
“Then who else cloned him?” Red Robin asks.
The clone now stops what he’s doing and frowns at the camera. “Clone? No, I’m his brother.” Not seeing the reaction he wanted. “Danny? His twin? Other half of the demon twins?”
Watching their growing confused reactions he puts his head in his hands and groans.
“He didn’t mention me at all, did he? Of course not.”

For those begging for dbhc mumbo angst, unfortunately (?) this is just about as bad as it gets for him (as far as I have planned, anyway). All I can think of when it comes to dbhc mumbo is how silly goofy pathetic he is so for now he gets spared from serious angst <3
(doc, on the other hand, gets closer and closer to combusting the more he gets to know everyone)
also, a bonus below the cut bc scar is no better :]

Happy Valentine's, all. <3
Eddie doesn't want to be making this call. Literally the last thing he wants to be doing is making this specific phone call, but he'll be damned if he lets his asshole of a roommate get away with this.
After a moment the ringing stops, and a voice says "Hello?"
"Uh, hi, is this Steve?"
"It is, who is this?"
"It's Eddie, Jake's roommate? I got your number from him." Well, from his phone when he'd left it unattended one day, but Steve doesn't need to know the details. "I really, really hate to be making this call, especially the day before Valentine's, but uh. Jake is cheating on you."
The line is silent for a moment before he hears a weak "What?"
Eddie's eyes squeeze shut at the heartbreak he can hear in that single word. He hates that he's doing this, but knows it needs to be done, for Steve's sake.
"I got home from work not too long ago, and heard him with some girl in his room. I took a video, if you want proof, but I just- I thought you deserved to know."
There's a bit of shuffling on Steve's end, along with a soft sniffle. "I, uh. I don't need the video. I believe you. I'm not all that surprised, if I'm honest."
He huffs a laugh, the sound so self-deprecating that it makes Eddie's stomach twist in empathy. "Guess that makes me three-for-three on my long-term partners cheating. I'm starting to wonder what the fuck is wrong with me."
That last part is softer, like Steve was speaking to himself, but Eddie hears it and frowns, because- because Steve is lovely. He can tell that Steve is beautiful inside and out, always kind with just enough sass to make him so fun to be around.
He's always makes sure to talk to Eddie every time he comes over, even if it's just a simple greeting or goodbye, and whenever he cooks at their apartment - because he's a great cook - he always makes enough for Eddie to have some as well.
It feels wrong to hear Steve talk like this, like there's something about him that needs to be fixed. Like his previous partners were right to abuse his love and trust, instead of treating them like the treasures Eddie knows they are.
Before Eddie can speak out to reassure him, the man continues. "Thank you for telling me Eddie. Spending Valentine's alone is gonna suck, but I guess that's better than spending it with someone who doesn't care about me."
"Spend it with me."
Eddie isn't sure where the request comes from, but as soon as it leaves his mouth, it's all he wants.
Steve gives a soft "Huh?" and Eddie repeats it, "Spend it with me. A boy as pretty as you shouldn't be cooped up inside on a day like Valentine's. Let me take you out, try to salvage it for you at least a little."
Steve goes quiet, and for a solid ten seconds, Eddie is sure that he's about to be rejected.
And then Steve says "Jake was supposed to pick me up at 6:30 tomorrow. I'll come by yours at six instead, so I can break up with him before we leave. Is that okay?"
A sigh of relief, and Eddie slumps into the wall behind him. "Sounds perfect, Stevie. Wear something nice, but casual, okay?"
"I can do that. I'll see you tomorrow, Eddie. And thanks again."
Tumblr media
Jake comes across Eddie the next evening as he's packing the last of the food into a bag. He's spent the last hour or so getting it ready, making sure it's all perfect even though it's nothing too complicated.
A meat and cheese plate with some fancy crackers, a jar of the pickled asparagus he's recently become addicted to, a bowl of diced fruit and a box of fancy chocolates he'd splurged on.
He'd even dropped money on a bouquet of roses, and he already has a few comfy blankets and pillows packed into the back of the van. Everything perfect and ready to go. When Jake sees his preparations, he lets out a low whistle.
"Wow, Eddie. Trying to impress someone?"
Eddie shrugs, trying to be as nonchalant as possible. "Yep. It's our first date, so I want it to be special. Didn't wanna go the usual, boring, fancy restaurant route."
He's sure that's what Jake had planned for himself and Steve, and it's confirmed by the way his nose wrinkles. "There's nothing wrong with spending money on your date, Eddie. If you have the money to spend, that is."
Jesus Christ, Eddie can't wait to move out of this fucking place, and away from this fucking asswipe.
"Anyway, I've gotta go pick up Steve soon, and I'm planning on bringing him back here tonight, so maybe see if you can crash with your date, yeah?"
"Sure thing-" Eddie replies, though he's interrupted by the sound of a knock ringing through the apartment. He grins wide, knowing exactly who it is. "That must be my date. Can you grab that while I finish up here?"
Jake rolls his eyes but complies, and Eddie freezes in place, not daring to make a sound so he can hear whatever interaction is about to happen.
The door opens, and he hears Jake's confused "Steve? What are you doing here? I'm supposed to be-"
"Yeah, we're not doing anything anymore. Ever again, actually."
God, Steve sounds so bitchy, and Eddie fucking loves it. He grabs the bag of food and the bouquet of roses from the counter, glad that he got dressed beforehand, and makes his way to the entry.
"What are you saying, Steve?"
"I'm saying that we're over, Jake. Maybe you can call the girl you fucked last night and take her to dinner instead."
Eddie turns the corner in time to see Jake's stunned expression, clearly not expecting Steve to throw that at him. He takes a moment to bask in the fire burning behind hazel eyes, until they slide to him and that fire vanishes, replaced with something sparkling and delighted.
"Hi, Eddie," Steve says, his demeanor changing like the flip of a switch, and Eddie beams. He steps closer and offers the bouquet of roses, along with a "Happy Valentine's, Stevie."
The money Eddie spent on the flowers was worth it to see the blush that floods Steve's face as he reaches out to take them.
"Oh, thank you. That's really sweet of you."
"What the fuck is happening right now?"
Eddie and Steve both turn to look at a very petulant and confused Jake, and Steve just smiles. "Well, you just got dumped, and my Valentine is about to take me on a date."
It takes a moment, but something must finally click, because Jake's face goes red with rage. Eddie just grabs Steve's arm, guiding him out of the apartment before the man can actually do something.
"So what's the plan?" Steve asks as he takes Eddie's hand, lacing their fingers together as Eddie leads him to his van.
"Well, uh. The next town over still has a drive in theater, and they're showing some old romance movies tonight. The drive to get there is pretty nice, and we'll actually have some time to talk, and then- I have some blankets and pillows in the back of the van, and I brought food so we can do a picnic during the movies. I mean, if- if that sounds good to you."
Steve's eyes are sparkling again as Eddie rambles, and he squeezes their hands in delight. "That sounds perfect, Eds."
Tumblr media
By the time Eddie gets home late that night, he's learned two things:
The first is that Steve had already been debating on breaking up with Jake before this whole fiasco, but the thing stopping him was that he actually likes being around Eddie, and he thought wanting to hang out with his ex-boyfriend's roommate would be too weird.
The second thing Eddie's learned is that Steve's smile tastes like dark chocolate and sunshine, and kissing him might just be Eddie's new favorite hobby.
(Eddie does eventually show the video to Steve, just to reassure him that he didn't break them up so Eddie could date him instead. The only comment Steve makes is "She's definitely faking, his dick game isn't that good.")

-----
It couldn't be true—
It couldn't be true—
It couldn't it couldn't it couldn't be—
Danny denied it over and over like a mantra, a broken record stuck in a painful loop as he flew home as fast as he could.
Because he didn't want to believe any of it. Vlad had to be lying. His parents wouldn't do that to him. His mom wouldn't do that to him.
But all the clues, the scattered bits and pieces that were at first perplexing and nonsensical were now falling into place.
Don't you know what they've done to us? To you?
His ultimate enemy's words had no meaning for him before but now they all rushed back into his head making such terrifying sense.
And then a second ultimate enemy, a number tattooed on his upper arm just like all the dead clones in that graveyard.
I was created to be used and then destroyed. To live a short time before she killed me.
She. She.
He did not want to believe that she could be his mother.
It had to be a lie. He would go home and down into the lab and there would be no clone there. He was sure of it.
He wanted to be sure of it.
Danny phased through the walls of Fenton Works and maintained his ghost form as he searched for his parents. He found them upstairs in their room with the door shut, their voices muffled as they spoke about something. Danny stood outside a moment before floating away, past Jazz's door and down the stairs, down to the basement. Taking the long way instead of just phasing through the floor because he was stalling, afraid of what he might find once he reached the lab.
The lab was dark. Danny switched on a light and went down the stairs, one step at a time, slowly, slowly, holding his breath.
God, he didn't want to keep going. He wanted to go back up to his room and hide under his covers.
But he gripped the stair rail and continued his descent, down into whatever hell was waiting for him.
He froze when he saw what was belted to the main examination table.
No, not what. Who was on the table.
Unmoving. Sleeping. Or perhaps unconscious.
Danny approached the table to get a better look, but even from a distance, he recognized that thick dark hair, the point of that nose, the curve of that neck, the jut of those eyebrows.
He had seen them in photographs. In mirrors. Every day for over sixteen years.
"Oh, my God," he breathed out, not even realizing he had been holding his breath.
He braced himself against the table, leaning and hanging his head, on the edge of hyperventilating. Gathering courage, he looked up again and studied the clone. On his back with his arms down by his sides, dressed in a hospital gown, wrists and ankles strapped to the table with anti-ghost belts pulled tight. No cuts or incisions, no signs of trauma. It appeared the experimentation had not yet begun for this clone.
A flash of memory. The second incarnation of his ultimate enemy pulled down his sleeve, revealing a tattoo of the number 26.
Danny shakily lifted the right sleeve of the clone's hospital gown. The number 26 was tattooed in black on the clone's upper arm.
One day you will see me again. I won't look like this, but you'll know it's me when you see this number. And then you'll understand.
Yes. Danny understood now. The past version of his second dark enemy looked very different indeed.
A small metal side table stood nearby, holding tools and a clipboard. Danny picked up the clipboard and leafed through the sheets of paper clipped to it. Notes written in his mother's handwriting, details and instructions for what was to be done with Clone 26.
Flay the skin away from the arm in one piece if possible so it can be restitched on, will see how quickly and how well it is able to reattach and heal—
Danny dropped the clipboard, which clattered back onto the metal side table. He covered his mouth and turned back to look at the sleeping clone, so peaceful and unaware of the horrors planned for him. No white hair, no ghostly complexion. His skin was warm and pink with blood, his lashes dark on his closed eyes.
His mother was planning on destroying him knowing full well he was her son.
She wasn't even going to pretend he was just a ghost.
Danny stood there. Motionless. Staring. Hell stared back at him.
An involuntary shudder jarred the return of his senses. His parents were probably going to come down soon.
He made a decision in just a split second and knew he had to act quickly. No time to think or consider his options.
He loosened each belt holding the clone to the table and lifted him, one arm supporting his back, the other beneath his knees. The clone did not wake as Danny jumped into the air and phased through the ceiling, up and up to his bedroom. He laid the clone on his bed and pulled a pair of jeans and a T-shirt out of his dresser drawers. He removed the hospital gown and redressed the clone in his own clothes, stepping back when he was done, watching as the clone continued sleeping supine on his bed, on top of the covers.
God, the clone really did look exactly like him.
He heard shuffling noises from his parents' bedroom down the hall. Still holding the clone's hospital gown in his hands, he dropped through the floor, all the way back down into the basement lab. He changed into his human form and quickly stripped out of his clothes, phasing all of them off and tossing them out of sight. He then slipped on the hospital gown, shivering in the frigid, sterile lab air.
He imagined all of the clones that had been here. That had died here.
Such a frightening place to wake up in.
He climbed onto the lab table and placed the four belt restraints around his wrists and ankles, loose enough that he could easily slip out of them. He then lay back on the cold metal surface and closed his eyes, breathing deeply, trying to control the erratic tremors seizing his whole body.
Then he waited. And listened.
His heart began racing when he heard the basement door open.
