Alright plant nerds. Saw this weird plant on the road but couldn't get a picture. My partner thought it was a fucked up dandelion. It had a tall dark purple stem and yellow? Seed heads or flowers? That reminded me of wild parsley. The stem was pretty thick looking, the leaves were dark green and spikey with a bit of purple at the base and it looked like thicker dandelion leaves almost. I'm in the Midwest and this plant was along the road in a parking lot.
If I see a picture of this plant I should be able to know it instantly because it was pretty interesting looking.

PLS DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT PLANTS MY PRAYER PLANTS ARE VERY SAD AND ALL THE APPS WANT ME TO PAY PLEASE I DONT WANT THEM TO DIE AND I AM A BROKE COLLEGE STUDENT I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER IF YOU HAVE ANY GENUINE ADVICE FOR ME
My parlor palm, aloe vera, and assorted other succulents have been just fine, but this is my first time owning prayer plants and I am way out of my depth here. Just posting with the hopes some kind soul is able to save my little guys.
Featured below are are my Maranta Prayer Plant (L) and Fishbone Prayer Plant (R) and as you can see they are Not Doing Great. They are alive but the Maranta’s leaves are spotting and Queenie (Fishbone) just looks a little too droopy to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are in a bathroom, with the Maranta (Toast) on the counter and the Fishbone (Queenie) on the back of the toilet. I’d say they’re getting watered approximately once a week with water from the tap since it goes through the filter and we have hard water from the other faucet. They get some medium ish indirect sunlight through the morning and light indirect sunlight to sundown, nothing too horribly intense.
Do they need more sunlight?? I’m hoping they aren’t being overwatered, since I have been on every plant website under the fucking sun and everything so far is telling me they’re receiving adequate water.
Are they okay?? Is it because we’re approaching winter time? Again, first time having prayer plants, I’ve owned tons of succulents and such before so I am running off minimal information from some old houseplant horticulture databases tha helped me out with my plant questions in the past.
For reference, photos of the tops of the plants with Toast on the left again and Queenie on the right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Forgot but important side note, I trimmed these leaves off an hour ago, figured I should document it somewhere in this post in case it helped at all with diagnosing. As you might guess from the leaf patterns, they all came off Toast except the one on the very bottom with the more distinct striping.

HEY PLANTBLR
I NEED HELP
This cactus got damaged maybe four years ago, I dropped it while repotting it and haven't repotted it since.
This past year it had a sudden growth spurt, and I'm thinking it's time to repot it. It practically doubled in size in a year, not sure what I did differently from previous years but it must have been good!
PLEASE REBLOG IF YOU HAVE PLANT KNOWLEDGEABLE FOLLOWERS, I REALLY WANT TO DO WHAT'S BEST FOR MY PLANTS AND MAKE UP FOR THE YEARS I DID THE BARE MINIMUM AND JUST KEPT THEM ALIVE
Is there anything I should think about? Should I do anything about the gash in it? Are the white spots anything to worry about?

fuck. the glass stulp of one of my plants just broke and this plant needs a higher humidity level than i can offer without the stulp.
its already dying and i really dont want to repot it to fit beneath a temporary replacement.
ive tried to patch the hole up with some wet tissues but obviously thats not gonna hold out long.
does anyone with more experience with tropical plants know any solution? or tips in general? ive had it for 1.5 years and its one of my favourites.

Does anyone have tips for keeping plants alive in a room with no windows? I am trying to avoid a sun lamp and have a horrible green thumb.
I tried those plants that are nearly impossible to kill, basically as long as it has water and sun it's fine. Guess who forgot to water it. For three months. It was very not alive.
I have dried flowers too but i was hoping for a plant thats more alive.

Does my cactus have some rare never before seen fatal disease or is Google just such garbage now that "why cactus cutting hollow center" doesn't bring me a single relevant result
(I've searched multiple variations trying to find something that might at least get close to the topic. There's plenty about thoroughly rotted out mushy brown hollow cactus, but mine doesn't have any discoloration, it's just kinda dry. Like, of course root rot was my FIRST concern but i can't find a single similar example to confirm OR rule it out.)
For context I've been going back and forth over whether this cactus might be overwatered or underwatered or somehow both and whether this yellowing around the base was something to grow and wait out or to cut away before spreading any further. Finally decided to just have a go at rooting a cutting. The cactus roots are very dry and brittle and I don't think it's absorbed any water in quite a long time, even when I've watered it. It looks like it's had plenty stored though. I'm wondering if that dried out hollow vascular bundle is too far gone to transport water around the plant ever again, or to put out new roots. It will at the very least be interesting to observe!

People with plant knowledge can someone help 😫. I have a philodendron green dragon and there’s like spot spots on leaves that turn brown/black with a yellow ring. It happened shortly after getting it on just one leaf. I thought it was from overwatering so watered less often and even repotted since it was root bound. Now the same spots showed up on other leaves and I’m worried it’s fungal 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the two it’s on right now.

This is how the first affected lead ended up by the time I cut it off. I’ve never had this happen on any of my plants and don’t know what it is or what to do

plant babes i need help!!!! i got this elephant ear alocasia early september. when i first got it she pushed out a new leaf but since then she’s been dropping leaves one by one. first they start to droop and then slowly they turn brown.
she’s sits about 3/4 feet away from my south facing window and i have a blue/red/white LED plant light that faces her about the same distance away. the house stays around 70°F and i leave the fan running in my room most of the day. i water her whenever the soil is mostly dry, i tend to bottom water because i am constantly battling fungus gnats (🙄).
i read somewhere that sometimes they go dormant in winter? i live on the east coast in the US and it’s still relatively warm here so i’m not sure that’s it. some sites also said it could be overwatering or not enough humidity. i would like the repot her into a chunkier soil mix but i worry that it’d be the last straw.
if you have any tips please let my know!! i really like this plant and would hate to see her go.
