One of the seeds on most excited for this growing season is Astrodaucus! It’s weird and I have never heard of it before the 2024 catalogue came out.
I also want to know what possessed them to name the genus ‘Astrodaucus’. I also want them to know they’re extremely valid for doing so and they’re correct.
how did plants discover that some animals can help during pollination? i refuse to believe it all happened purely by chance. there's so many different methods that evolved completely separate and so many different creatures that might get involved in the process. how did they LEARN
I got a teeny tomato (cherry tomato? IDK the label is vague) from the rescue bin.
It’s about half green and half brown, very wilted, and had a bunch of red spider mites on it. And it has a single small orange tomato growing on it. Looks like it’s been heavily pruned as well?
On recommendation, I misted it (which seems to have gotten rid of the mites but it’s hard to tell for sure) and gave it some liquid tomato-specific fertilizer. At the moment I have it in the sunniest place in the house: about 10-12 hours of sunlight per day, fluctuates 24-28 degrees C.
Video demonstrating how to propagate a prickly pear cactus.
The key is to not plant them too deeply because they will not look good aesthetically and will probably rot.
I’m using two sets of prickly pads here. The rooted ones were started last year.
You start them off by planting them in shallow soil. This minimizes the plant’s contact with the wet soil. Once they’re rooted you transplant them into a pot with more soil, making sure to only leave about an inch above the crown in contact with the soil.
Rinse and repeat ♻️ keep scaling up as long as you wish.
