So apparently I never shared the shortcut to happiness that is making a lacy parasol. Let me rectify that:

I found this plastic parasol in a thrift shop, I think it was a prop for a restaurant or something. Pretty, but not actually functional as a parasol (it got to 40c when i made this, i had ample opportunity to test it out).

I had lacy parasols on the brain and before I could convince myself to try and tat one, I realised I had lace too sturdy for dresses, and also this doily:

This worked so well. I zigzagged over the lace and then cut the back (an old tablecloth with a permanent stain) away carefully. I cleaned the parasol of the old glue and glued the new fabric on with fabric glue, handstitching down the edge.

It had to dry overnight, but it was done in time for me to parade around with. Instant happiness.

Radius Project: day 2 of week 3, 03/10/2023

I started by doing some crochet for myself, having no inspiration in the morning. After a while, I thought I could maybe make some crochet flowers!

When I started to do that, I talked to our tutor Giordana Giache, and she showed me some things like Irish crochet-lace, and how I could make flowers by melting plastic with wool in between.

I wanted to do something with that crochet-lace, but then I saw this sort of net fabric which looked really cool and could be used instead of the crochet and I made a dress with it after, and stitched the flowers to it.

I really enjoyed doing this, it was fun to do something simple like this but make really something.

this boot company feels sketchy as hell and I would not send them my money and like these are also actually quite ugly BUT the thing about me is when i see a boot with straps i am like... tempted. Every time. Like. This is a lace up boot! There is no need for a harness strap! And yet!

here's my knitting machine life hack: if you are using a die cutting machine to make your punch cards (eg. a cricut) don't bother with those plastic binder dividers from the dollar tree. what you wanna do is get a roll of cake acetate online. just get one wide enough for your machine (measure how wide your punch card reader is, get a roll at LEAST that wide) and bam. now you can cut a punch card as long as your little heart desires with NO need to tape multiple binder sheets together. just trim the acetate to the length you need.

the cake acetate is a little thicker than the binder dividers, so the finished cards are a little sturdier too. but it also means you may have to trial and error your cut settings to get them to cut all the way through. i have no advice for you here, every machine and acetate brand is a little different.

took my friend to the rink today and forgot just how trash the rental skates are omg. the way they are so unsharpened…i feel like everyone would improve significantly without using rentals. no wonder people cannot balance at all even the cheapest pair of skates you can get are better than those! the lack of ankle support too 😩

can’t believe we used to hockey stop in these things during high school ice skating lessons every friday…? i sometimes hated bringing my skates from home because they weren’t the most comfortable things to bring on the school bus when it was so packed in the mornings. teenagers truly had no fear for their safety 😂

Very strange outfit that is sort of like.. a mix of my current style (pattern mixing, pom poms, fun sandals) combined with how I dressed when I was like 10 years old. The stereotypical skelanimals hoodie vest and the skull t-shirt lol..

#this was all done in situ because the control cavity had such a weird shape #for some reason most luthiers hate this stuff! #also my first crack at traditional style loom lacing instead of heat shrink and zipties #its nice because it doesn't use anything plastic #however the wiring is that nasty TEFZEL stuff #only way i could fit that much in a reasonable gauge of wire into there #loothposting
