Also I’m obligated to mention that we grew up in the same neighborhood in Miami, went to the same community college and my mom worked with his dad.

The thought occurred to me that I dreamt up the idea of a Scott Pilgrim musical long ago... about eight years, probably. And... it came true, sort of! There's not a lot to go on, but it's in canon now!

watching videos of musical theatre casts on and off stage makes me stop and think
"fuck the wages, that's gonna be me at some point"
because jesus christ i love performing. always have, and probably always will, and if its not gonna be part of my career, then i won't be happy, and that's that.

It's the end of another Broadway touring season for Playhouse Square so I thought I'd post my current collection of all the shows I've seen at Playhouse since 2017 😊
I've been privileged enough to be able to get season tickets for the past two years and it's been amazing. Some day I'd love to be able to afford to see a show in New York but I love going to Playhouse. The tours are always incredible.
Here's to adding more and more! New season start soon!

So... I got some Beetlejuice Playbills! 🪲
Tumblr media
I was originally gonna hold off on sharing these until I got everything in my new Beetlejuice collection altogether, but since I've got a couple of other things on there that I'd like to share in detail, I feel it's best to dedicate a post to the Playbills by themselves.
And boy, do I got an interesting story to share about these.
-
I took an interest in collecting some Playbills after I saw @mastersprogram's post sharing their own signed School of Rock Playbill. It made me realize that I wanted a Playbill that had Alex Brightman's signature as well.
I looked around eBay to see my options, and that's when I decided that I wanted at least one Playbill from the DC run, one Playbill from the Winter Garden (2019) run, and one Playbill from the Marquis Theatre (2022) run.
For the DC and Marquis Theatre Playbills, I got regular ones.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for Winter Garden...?
I found a signed one.
Tumblr media
I knew that I wanted a signed Playbill with the original Broadway cast, but I figured those would be more difficult to find, so I left myself open to getting a Playbill with the reopening cast as my second option.
I genuinely did not expect to find this one... and this is where I wanna share the story about my experience getting this signed Playbill-
-
Purchasing signed Playbills online can be a tricky thing to do because... some of them are forged.
I didn't even stop to consider this until after the fact. When I did, I was extremely nervous...
I started looking a bit into the seller I got the signed Playbill from and... it was a genuinely interesting find.
They had not only been selling the signed Playbill, but also a couple of other souvenirs that they got when they saw the musical back in May 2019.
They actually gave me a streamer they picked up from the show! They mentioned it in the listing, which was what interested me to buy the Playbill.
Tumblr media
There was just something heartwarming to see what was essentially a story unfolding in their Beetlejuice listings. I may not be 100% certain about the signatures, but the fact that the seller went out of their way to show proof that they were there, makes me much more confident that what I got is legit.
That being said... I think I will just stick to regular Playbills from now on.
-
To close this off, I wanna share just a few more pics of the Playbills I got. This picture is from my Winter Garden Playbill, showing the original cast.
Tumblr media
For the Marquis Theatre one, I actually got an extra slip showing some of the temporary cast changes that I imagine occurred for one of the performances.
Tumblr media
This picture I took specifically for @stinkyhorsebitch, who has expressed an interest in this version of the bug man.
Tumblr media
Also, I just realized after the fact that I got exactly three Beetlejuice Playbills-
"Three times in a row", indeed...

New! "Cabaret Made Eddie Redmayne Want to Be an Actor".
The Tony and Olivier winner talks about bringing his Emcee to Broadway in the upcoming revival at the Kit Kat Club, née August Wilson Theatre.
BY LOGAN CULWELL-BLOCK
FEBRUARY 29, 2024
Eddie Redmayne is getting ready to bring his Olivier-winning performance as The Emcee in Cabaret to Broadway. The starry revival begins performances at the Kit Kat Club (née August Wilson Theatre) April 1. Opening night has two parts, with a gala celebration set for April 20, and an official opening (including those all-important reviews) April 21.
And it turns out, Cabaret is the reason Redmayne is an actor at all.
"Cabaret, for me, was the one that made me want to be an actor, and The Emcee is one of the great characters of musical theatre," shares the Tony- and Olivier-winning stage and screen star. "You never know whether this character is grounded in a reality or floating in some puppet master place in the sky." See Redmayne speak more about the show and the role in the video above.

Video: Little Shop of Horrors' Darren Criss on How Howard Ashman Is His 'Roman Empire'
youtube
Following his first week of performances as Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors Off-Broadway, Darren Criss (sporting perfectly thematic lime green nail polish) took the time to chat with Playbill about his endless enthusiasm about the role—plus, his musings on the brilliance of the academic undertones of the show's story being set to a timelessly catchy score.
"I'm just pleased as punch to be part of the legacy that is this show, not just this production, but the legacy that everybody [has] known since the 1980s," Criss shared in his interview with Playbill.
Prior to his breakout role on the musical television series Glee, Criss was known by his fans not only for his part in pioneering the viral theatre company StarKid Productions, but his YouTube covers of Alan Menken-Howard Ashman standards. For nearly two decades, Criss' deep admiration for the Ashman-Menken theatrical canon has been evident. "It's a very special show because of Howard Ashman. His fingerprint is such a huge part of my own relationship to creativity and he's been a north star in my life for as long as I can remember. As the kids say, he's my Roman Empire," Criss says, referring to a viral TikTok trend where users share the historical event they contemplate at least once a day. And now Criss is singing Menken and Ashman's songs eight times a week at the Westside Theatre, opposite longtime friend Evan Rachel Wood as Audrey.
While the Emmy winner, in some ways, admits that this long-awaited opportunity feels surreal, he is also confident in his ability to handle the material. "As a lover and ravenous consumer of the Ashman-Menken legacy, I have put in the hours of absolutely loving and being invigorated by this stuff stuff that it stands to reason that I could be here. It is surreal, but it also makes perfect sense," he shares.
With such a long-established and beloved role, countless performers have had the opportunity to leave their mark on the role of Seymour, and each interpretation offers infinite possibilities within the larger mold of the character. For Criss, his take on the character is rooted in theatre history.
"In the past few years—I don't know if it's a coincidence, and I don't know what it says about me—I seem to have played a lot of guys that are willing to do anything for greatness," muses Criss. "This is an ancient tale. I think people forget that Little Shop, for all its fun and catchiness, is a Faustian tale. All that very academic stuff is baked into this cake and I think that's why Howard Ashman was a genius. He could really toe that line between academia and accessibility...It is very smart, as fun as it is."
To see Criss' full interview with Playbill's Jeffrey Vizcaíno, watch the video above.
Criss joined the hit Off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors at the Westside Theatre January 30. Wood and Criss succeeds Constance Wu and Corbin Bleu, who played their final performances in the long-running revival January 28.
Criss came to global fame on the Ryan Murphy musical television series Glee, and since appeared on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and most recently, American Buffalo. He is an Emmy winner and Golden Globe winner for portraying murderer Andrew Cunanan in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
