thinking about the elections tonight... bad, cellbit, baghera, and forever are four candidates who are devoted to the island- more specifically, to the residents of the island. They care for the eggs, and they care for each other, and the way they exhibit that care through their primary presidential strategies is fucking fascinating.
Bad is who I watch the most, so I know him best. He's a classic mother hen. He doesn't like to take risks with the eggs, and he likes to prepare. If there's any sort of variable that could hurt an egg then he wants to control it. They have a stable relationship with the federation right now- it's not great, but they know the parameters. Don't trust cucurucho. don't follow cucurucho. send the eggs to NINHO every time there's a threat. the time of day changing means you need to run. Other than that they're p okay and roughly safe. But adding a president could potentially change everything. What if the president makes a rule that makes it easier to kill the eggs? And what about the way a president could cause tensions between the players to rise even higher? The dynamics of the island could change drastically. It's safer to neutralize that threat before it ever becomes a threat. It's easier to stop a war before it can start.
Baghera's primary concern is the way the election is designed to pit the residents against each other. All of them know that the Federation is a threat and she, like Bad, is focused on not letting them hurt more people. But, unlike Bad, she's less resistant to change. If the power is spread to multiple players rather than just one, it will be harder for the Federation to corrupt any one of them. Each time before the Federation has gotten to someone it's done so by isolating them. Felps, Cellbit, Jaiden- they've all spent a lot of alone time with Cucurucho. A council isn't just to consolidate the ideals of the island; a council would protect the players themselves. Sure, there might be disagreements and arguments, but they've had those before (and they're having them now!) and there's no reason to think they wouldn't be able to get through them again.
I hit a bit of a wall with Forever and Cellbit's pov here. Everything I know about their plans are from the debates and paraphrased discussions that have been translated here on tumblr, I'm going to talk less about their explicit plan and more about what the result will entail- a single president who takes responsibility for the island. It seems to me like they've recognized the presidential seat as the powerful opportunity that it is, and they want to take advantage of it. Here's some extra personal speculation but, adding rules, adding or removing mods, proposing public works, enforcing laws- those are just the abilities that are listed. Those are incredible opportunities to make the Federation take action, which is more than they've had before. We've seen before that the Federation isn't perfect; the Federation makes mistakes.
By working with the Federation, by making them take action (in a semi-controlled, semi-predictable way) you open them up to more opportunities for them to fuck up (while benefiting you). And, maybe, one of those fuck ups will be the key to taking them down. Maybe they could reopen ender chests. Maybe they could open the nether. Maybe they could learn why the Federation is holding an election in the first place. It's possible to do all these things with Baghera's plan, sure, but that's not a guarantee and, if someone like Bad is on the council, there's absolutely no way to be sure it would get done. And, if there's a council, then that opens up everyone on the council to the Federation's wiles. If there's just one president, then that's where the Federation's focus will be. By using a single person to build a relationship with the Federation, they only risk that single person. By electing ministers instead of a council, they can ensure that the island residents' needs are being heard while placing the federation's focus on that one person. A point can be made that they've done that before- with varying results. like kidnapping. selling your soul. etc. But! overall, I think they've gained more than they've lost by singling out one person. Because of them, we know that Cucurucho can't be trusted. We know that the Federation has a series of tunnels underneath the island. We know that the Federation not only has some sort of cryo technology, but had some unknown reason to use it. We know that there was another person working with Cellbit to take care of Felps (theorized to be ElQuackity), so we know there's at least one more Fed that isn't Cucurucho + blank-faced workers. There's been risk, but there's absolutely been rewards. This is just a very long meandering way to say that their plan to sacrifice Forever to the presidential seat reminds me very much of Cellbit's plan to sacrifice himself to the federation. They're saving their friends by potentially damning themselves and I, for one, think that is cool as hell.
they all care about each other so much. bad's plan means taking on no more risk. baghera's plan means spreading that risk evenly to stand strong together. and cellbit and forever's plan means taking the risk onto themselves so they can reap the rewards for others. am i reading too much into things? no this is tumblr and this smp is about LOVE and i really genuinely think that their election plans are a fantastic example of just how much they love each other

Second day with @ndostairlyrium's Kerry (right back at you, AH!).
Double because it's actually a redo with an addition of one of these memes which I really really liked.
What can I say she just has the time of her life in the Hawkeverse and getting adopted by all the Hawkes.

as a writer how do you stop thinking about like getting kudos/comments? I've just started writing fanfic, and when I start a writing something -- it goes well and then eventually I get to point where I'm like "ahh but what the readers don't like that? or what if I don't get as many kudos or comments" and it makes it difficult to continue because then it becomes stressful -- I guess how do you deal with "wanting to write stuff for yourself" and "wanting validation" thanks!
You're going to hate this answer, because I hated it too, but TIME. When you first start writing and you get kudos and comments and people love what you're doing, it's a huge validation of your effort and talent, and it's natural that you want MORE of it. When I first started putting up fics I already had been writing for 15+ years, knew I was good at it, and still for a good few years found myself really glued to the hit counter, and the kudos, and wondering how I'd be able to get people to comment the same way they did on things like Seven Suitors.
But the thing is that commenting comes and goes in waves, and unless a fandom has a big comment culture, or is large enough that you're guaranteed a good glut of them every time you post...you're going to hit a point where you write exactly what everyone wants and get crickets. And at that point you'll get ANNOYED, because LOOK, I MADE THIS, i made it for YOU GUYS, and now y'all don't have anything to say? It'll get to you. It'll make you doubt that you know what anyone wants at all. It'll happen and it'll suck the whole time.
Lots of advice will say "write for yourself," which is an excellent sentiment. You should always write what YOU want. Put into your fic what you want to see, write the nitpicky poetic metaphors and craft the most screwball twists your heart desires. Pour yourself into the most niche AUs and most tin-hat canon theories. At the end of the day, you want the IDEAS you put down to be for you, because comments and kudos are nice, but if they don't come...you have to be proud of what you put out, even when it feels like an echo chamber.
But also...we don't POST things for ourselves. We post things to share. Fic are a conversation with canon and it is perfectly natural to want to create something that creates conversation among other fans. So you're never going to fully get the need for validation out of your head, you're not. You can hide hit counts and ignore your inbox all you like, but the want to have someone interact with your work, to inspire someone to reach out to you will ALWAYS be there. You just have to create a healthier relationship with it.
Be confident in what you write. Think less about whether people will like it, and more about how you WANT them to react. The reader is the most important character in any novel, but it's the one most authors forget to manage. When you come to a point where you go "oh man, I hope this is good for them!" stop and go, "what do I *want* them to be feeling here?" Focus on where you're putting their attention and whether you WANT it there. There's so much you can do when you visualize your relationship with the reader as PART of the work, and it takes off a lot of the pressure of "is this good? is it disappointing? will this get me validation?" and brings it back into the realm of storytelling. You are taking your reader on a journey, and when you do it well people will think less about "did I like that?" and more about "what comes next?"

i feel like a lot of the "can you BELIEVE gen z doesn't know this, thinks (insert ridiculous thing)" is a little misguided, you're not mad at the entire generation, you're mad at teenagers--teenagers overwhelmingly suckered by advertisers into becoming addicted to disinformation machines like TikTok--for thinking and doing teenager things. the generation bashing (both ways!) is pointless tribalistic nonsense. if you wanna bash something focus on the executives and advertisers for these stupid sites that actively prey on the impressionability of young people and purposely create breeding grounds for unbelievably stupid discourse

Hiii! Can I have some thoughts on aki caring for a sick reader? I've got a fever since yesterday but I still have do get a lot of work done in the computer, so my head hurts and I feel like crap... I want aki hugs...
yes of course!!! I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well :(
aki is the first to notice you're sick out of anyone. even if you try to claim you're fine, he's ushering you to bed and telling you to get some rest. he'll place his hand on your forehead and take your temperature, telling you see, you have a fever, I knew it.
you absolutely won't be allowed to work as long as he's there, he'll make sure you're getting all the proper rest you need. you find it hard to deny him though when he's placing a cold washcloth on your head and handing you a warm bowl of soup, promising to come and check on you every hour.

"Everyone wants mean lesbians until they actually get one 🙄" Now this might confuse and surprise you, but there are such concepts like "'mean lesbian' does not mean 'lesbian who is an asshole to everyone'" and "people dislike it when you are a self centered asshole"

Go ahead and complain about Nightheart because he's a garbage rat of a character and you hate his guts. But first, take a long hard look at yourself.
I think we all have a bit of Nightheart in us.
A part of yourself that wants to prove that you're not what you think people think of you. One that's self-centred and lashes out at others out of insecurity; one that desires authenticity but doesn't know what that is, only what it's not. The part of yourself that causes the very problems that plague you.
Nightheart's a great character, if not a great guy, and I think the Erins stumbled onto something profound with him. If reading about him doesn't stir even a little bit of self-recognition within yourself, you're probably more like him than you think.

@beatingheart-bride
"I'm fine, Emily, really," Dorian assured her, putting on a wry smile as soon as they were out of earshot, Beau bringing the pair into the parlor (where Dorian and Randall used to spend many a day playing as a boy, ironically enough) and sitting them down before excusing himself to fetch all the necessary tools to clean and bandage the young man's hand, while Dorian himself sighed, saying, "I just...lost my temper, was all."
He just couldn't stand for such disparagement of his best friend and his family: Randall was the hardest-working person he knew; if anything, Dorian was the bad influence, sneaking him away from his hard work in the garden to share treats and play games with him, but even so, if Mrs. Pace called for him to come back, Randall came running, he never needed to be asked twice, and to imply that he did...it bothered Dorian.
And then came the matter of Mr. Pace, whom Dorian never had the pleasure of meeting, but heard about from Mrs. Pace: Having been out in the garden with her while she was deadheading the roses, Dorian had innocently asked about her husband, whom she spoke fondly of, telling him that he was a kind, excitable, and hard-working man who she loved and missed every day. To mock his death, a tragedy that had had such a ripple effect on Randall and his mother...it was needlessly cruel.
It was then that Beau returned with the small first aid kit, patiently cleaning and bandaging the Gracey heir's hand; fortunately, the cuts were not as deep as were feared, requiring no stitching, just a little cleaning and binding-it'd be sore for a while, that was for sure, but all in all, he'd be alright, which the head butler was very, very relieved to know.

I kind of want to do a temperature blanket, but I don't care about the temperature, so I'm trying to think of something along the same format that's not as boring as temperature. I'm thinking maybe moon phases? I considered sunrise and sunset time, but it would require a lot of yarn and I'm not sure exactly how I would format it. Any ideas?
