For now, I'll imagine it as the safest option :> About the gallery thing too, yeaahhh... i would find myself saving pictures for "future use" and then it gets buried </3 Why I think Yuuta is the moon is that he is the quiet one in 2wink (the vibes), but if we think about it... Him and Hinata can interchange between the sun and moon because they function as 2wink, as the sun and moon compliments each other. The following words mightt not be accurate as I do not hold much of a great understanding about them, however I'd still let you know! Hinata is supposedly the one who works in the dark (as the moon) to give shine to Yuuta (as the sun), for Yuu is Hina's sun, the one whom he cares much that even if he becomes insignificant, at least Yuuta can continue to shine. On the other hand, Hina's bright nature makes Yuu thinks he must be the sun, always working hard and excitable about things, when he, Yuuta, seems to feel that he must do something to shine together with Hina and not stay at his zone, selfishly basking in the light of the sun that makes him glow. The 2winkversary is a pleasant read, go insane however you like, you know we would honestly enjoy it either way~

I tend to stray away from unpleasant things in the internet as much as possible, so hearing these stuff that new enstarries have done…. there's much more to uncover, huh? There's so much too in Tiktok, which is common knowledge already. I understand the gatekeeping stuff, it kinda becomes meh when many people like it… like it spreads and gets liked by people who should be out the fandom… This is the reality of things, unfortunately.. The ratio of the unsafe fics to the fluff ones is like,, 8:2. I thought the tag would contain more sfw but OKayy… my expectations crashed so hard after seeing the consecutive unsafe ones. "Help me jesus 0(-(" no words better than this to describe it. ALSO anon lore, because this is significant. Admittedly, I'm one of the new enstarries… I had quite a few immatureness back then due to the magic of misinformation, but I'm now on the track of improving (hopefully). There's this huge eichi cancelling thing which, until now does not stop ? That matter is like a mystery case to me. I got quite immersed in understanding his character, and I guess it's fun to misprove misphrased and poorly researched info that spreads around. I came in the investigation room disliking eichi, I came out of it thinking and felling (this is a reference to that one meme textpost) that I possibly relate to him a bit. That's all, I believe ! This has to be said, because… I ain't here for too long yet. That one post that goes, "liking a media at the right time".. I wish to see that golden era, yanno? But maybe, even if things stands how it is now, there is still hope. You could say, moments are beautiful because they don't last forever, but I personally can't say anything to it yanno;; Speaking of which ! I have plans on bringing a bit of peace on the tag, though I can't say myself if I could actually do so. Omg anon lore, I kinda imagined it 👀 I recognize patterns of speech (I talked about this before actually) and I indeed didn't recognize yours from old anons from enst community. Immaturities are ok, as long as we learn from them and regret them. That being said, welcome! Eichi is permanently canceled, this has been going on since the game first came out tbh, don't worry too much about it. AND PLSSS YOU'RE JUST LIKE ME. I am actually a silly Eichi kin (low-key) I remember I didn't like him much at first and then I was like "he's ok" and then I read checkmate and I was like "h- ..hhh-" and yeah, mecore.

I love Yuu so much because he's such a scaredy cat <333 I love how. He's the type of teen to go "I'm so mature, I'm not a kid anymore, I'm an adult >:(" and then behaves like a child because, he gets so scared, and so excited about the little things of life. AND I ADORE THAT ABOUT HIM, it's the best thing ever seeing him acting as a person his age in such a complete organic way, I just want him to enjoy the phase he's going on without having to worry about being "stronger" or "more mature" because that gets him to feel bad about himself and deprecate sometimes and it's aughhhh :(((( let him enjoy things and have fears, that doesn't make him less valid than the rest.

Ok so the fun fact about scorpions is that. well, you know hoe there are little scorpions? Because there are the big ones and then the little ones, we have a different name for the small ones, alacranes or alacrán in singular. Well, when one of them stings you, you can later on feel when one is around because your, wound..? will start beating, like a presence. 1. How did you get into Dragon Age? | asked by @kaaras-adaar & @dreamerlavellan​

Sort of by accident, actually. It was the summer between my freshman and sophomore years in university (2011) and summertime is generally a time of inactivity and depression because I cannot tolerate the weather here. My dad happened to own Origins and I picked it up because??? Fantasy? RPG?

Starting the game I saw you could play as a dwarf, who have been my favourites in fantasy since a child as The Hobbit is among my favourite books. Then after that I fell in love with the worldbuilding for dwarves and Gorim, my first actual Dragon Age love. I was more or less hooked after that. DA was actually not my first Bioware game, I was obsessed with Jade Empire as a kid so like Origins appealed to me immediately despite being far less fun to play than literally any other Bioware game I’ve ever played. The characters and world more than made up for it.

I beat it relatively quickly and my dad bought Dragon Age II which had come out earlier that day, actually against my suggestion because I’d heard it wasn’t good. And in this instance my dad forgetting something I said turned out for the best because I ended up enjoying DAII more in some respects. While it took me a while to join the fandom as a content producer I was a consumer and certified DA trash from then on.

2. Have you finished all three games? | asked by @kaaras-adaar

Kskjdfs yes. I’ve beaten each at least 4 times, but probably more like 8. The only thing I haven’t played are some of the Origins DLC because as much as I enjoy my replays I am so ready to be out by the end of the game (and I have the worst luck with Awakening bugs) and I also don’t have Sebastians DLC b/c his never goes on sale individually and I refuse to spend more than like $4 on him.

3. How long did it take you to finish the series? | asked by @kaaras-adaar

I honestly don’t know. I think it took me like a week to beat Inquisition without 100%ing it, I’d say my first playthroughs all probably took about that long. I tend not to do everything in my first playthrough. Like shard collecting didn’t happen until round two, etc.

7. Favorite DA:O backstory? | asked by @dreamerlavellan & @fatefaulted

I’ve played through all of them and I enjoy them all except Cousland, but my favourite is Aeducan. I enjoy the politics, the culture, the aesthetic of Orzammar. I love Gorim Saelac and the surprising amount of depth to this character who is designed to be thrown away after the prologue. I love how it ties you to the Darkspawn threat in a bigger way than any of the origins accomplish. I love how it ties you to the Orzammar plot later in the game, and playing Aeducan first is probably one reason why I adore that branch of the game. It’s a good origin that establishes its world really well and has great characters to boot.

22. Favorite DA2 party combo? | asked by @fatefaulted

My main Hawke is a mage Hawke, so this party is horrendously imbalanced, but: Varric, Merrill, Isabela. They all just like each other and I think that’s neat. Although in act one my favourite is probably Carver, Merrill, Isabela / Varric. Unfortunately the game doesn’t want me to have a warrior in my party.

24. Favorite main-story quest from DA:I? | asked by @kaaras-adaar

It’s hard to pick between In Hushed Whispers and In Your Heart Shall Burn. I love seeing the red lyrium’d companions and the dark future of Thedas, and speculating on what happened in the intervening year. I love reflecting on what it must do for the Inquisitor to see that and have it be undone. I think it sets up the rest of the game really well, and in ways Champions of the Just doesn’t do quite as well.

In Your Heart Shall burn is a simpler quest but I think the power and emotions in the quest are so raw. Playing this the first time was riveting and I was on the edge of my seat. The triumph of closing the Breach, the strangeness of your first encounter with Cole (whose appearance at the gates is another reason I prefer IHW tbh, I think it’s more tension building than Dorian’s), Corypheus, crawling through the snow. Capping it off with The Dawn Will Come and the journey to Skyhold idk, it’s just such an emotional high point in the series that every time I replay I get goosebumps.

25. Favorite DA:I place? | asked by @fatefaulted

It’s a tie between the Frostback Basin and the Emerald Graves. I love the lore in both, as elf trash I prefer the lore in the graves especially if I can include the Din’an Hanin into that category. But the Avvar lore and Ameridan is also Very Good, and while I adore the giant trees of the graves the Frostback Basin clearly was able to have more resources poured into its design, and as a result the different sections of the map have so much more character.

A close runner-up is the Hinterlands, as I think the quests there are fun and it feels like home. I enjoy returning to it. Which is good, b/c I’ve played through it... a lot... I think loving it might be a coping mechanism, but also I love the vibe of the early game that’s best captured in the Hinterlands.

32. Favorite DLC mission overall? | asked by @fatefaulted

Trespasser is up there with Shivering Isles as my favourite DLC ever produced. Its hits every emotional beat I think it needed to hit, set up the next game with greater detail and intrigue than the initial epilogue, and I’m honestly dying to get to replay it again on Thora despite what it does to my nerves. The first time I played it I could feel my heart beating faster like wtf me.

37. Blood magic: yes or no? | asked by @hopewrought​

Would I use it myself? No. Morally I think it can be reprehensible but also neutral, much like any other magic in the game. In certain characters I think even if used for good it may encourage unhealthy habits, but I think it can be learned to be engaged with in better ways.

Oghren fucking Kondrat. When I think about the reasons Origins is my least favourite game he is among them. With Oghren there was a really good chance to portray an alcoholic abuse victim, suffering from severe mental health issues, and still mourning his wife, with the respect it deserves. Instead he just... is a gross sexist dwarf and his alcoholism is mostly played for jokes. And then he comes back in Awakening and... continues to be a gross sexist dwarf whose alcoholism is mostly played for jokes.

There could have been some really interesting stuff with Oghren, the Warrior caste of dwarves I think would suffer from issues similar to qunari warriors, where when they can no longer fill the purpose society has dictated they must serve, what then? They can’t do anything but fight. There could be comradery with Sten, or perhaps Zevran or Alistair, or any of the companions who have had the path their lives took dictated to them by societal forces they had no say in (even if they are happy with that direction). There are snippets of good stuff in here, the line “let us show them our hearts, Warden, and then show them theirs” is one of the best of the good-byes the game offers us imo. It’s a shame about what came before.

Like there are other characters, such as Sera, who I think were done dirty by their writers, but Sera at least got some growth in the DLC and there were attempts to address criticism of her character. Oghren in Awakening was just kind of a take two of an already poorly-done arc.

60. Who do you wish had been given more story? | asked by @hopewrought​

I wish Briala had more, like that she had some impact on the story in universes where Gaspard isn’t crowned with her as his puppetmaster. She and the elves reappears in that but not if you reunite her with Celene or exile her, and I think it would’ve been neat. I also wish she’d had a chance to interact with Solas in some small way given how many parallels were drawn by one of his own agents during Masked Empire.

I also wish we had more about dwarves in general in 2 and Inquisition. We get some great lore in Inquisition that was set up in 2, but with our only dwarf companion being Varric, who honestly has a relationship with his race that at times is comparable to Sera’s, it pulls a few of its punches. I really think they have dwarves set up to be important players in the next game, with their architecture featuring heavily in the dev diary, buuut no dwarves to be seen. So who knows. Just give me dwarves in the next game who aren’t Varric Bioware pls. Let me kiss one maybe.

It’s a tie between the journey to Skyhold and the talk with Solas at the end of Trespasser and the resulting disbanding of the Inquisition (if you so choose). I really can’t separate them because I think the reason Trespasser works so well is how it calls back to the very beginning of Inquisition and that moment with Solas in the snow. It’s triumphant and sad, something’s ending, the fellowship is breaking, but you know all of you will continue to work towards a better world apart.

In DA:O I think it’d be saying good-bye before the final battle and in DA2 I think the moment where you can tell the Arishok he was right to take in the elves who killed that guardmen is good. Probably one of the reasons why I think Hawke-Arishok work so well as a protagonist-antagonist combination.

My favourite writers to read are @theshirallen​, obviously. Joly wants to tweakIan’s personal quest but I think the version they have written now is still very good and you can find it here. I love reading Peace’s stuff and find their smut especially spicy in the best possible way, you can find a Merrill/f!Mahariel piece here! Gaia doesn’t write on Tumblr much these days, but she wrote a wonderful Tug/Sketch (the companions from Leliana’s Song) that you can find here.

I’ll chose one as many as I want to apparently from each game again, b/c why not?

DA:O - I have to admit I find this game hard to mod because nothing can really salvage the gameplay or look of the game. I need Better Dwarf Model so I don’t have to look at the odd dwarf proportions in the game (the women have arms for days). Mostly I have armour mods. I like Grey Wardens of Ferelden so I can match Alistair in the final batte and have everyone in uniforms in Awakening. I do like Kirkwall Exports because I can put Zevran in the robes of the notorious pirate tho. I haven’t used this mod yet but I also love this mod I retweeted this morning.

DA2 - Again, I don’t mod 2 very much. You could probably make some kind of chart for correlating my enjoyment of a game versus my urge to mod it, with the more I love a game means I want to mod it more. With 2 I enjoy the combat and overall design of the characters more so I mostly use a couple of tweaks, my favourite is Ishs Scarf for Merrill which just adds a cute blue scarf to Merrill and hides the fact that elves in this game have weirdly long necks. Oh and a mod to fix the weird hand dirt.

DA:I - Equal Opportunity Solas mod, I bought the game again on PC just to use it. Being able to play Solas/Ian for screencaps was everything tbh. Other mods I enjoy are More Banter, which while I have better luck with banter it is nice to be able to count on it. I installed it this latest pt and I have heard location comments that have never triggered before. Black Hair for Everyone has changed my life because finally Thora doesn’t have grey hair. No Dirt Buildup is also amazing, as the dirt can cause some really weird blotting on PCs that’s especially noticeable on dark-skinned Inquisitors.

99. Where would you live (Ferelden, Orlais, Free Marches etc?) | asked by @heysales​​

Probably Ferelden. It is fantasy England and hey if I make it past Inquisition maybe nothing will ever happen there again. Somewhere in the Free Marches might also be chill. Not Kirkwall. Warframe is... getting a bit too cluttered for me to have any interest in. But I won’t be getting into the gameplay because I admit, I was lazy and is unwilling to grind as diligently like I used to. 

But the LORE.

Oh GOD what happened to the lore. 

Now, any of you WF lore enthusiasts can correct me, please. I just don’t understand what is up with the lore choices and am too pissed to care about research anymore. I had a friend of mine recently explain stuff to me, but it’s nOT going to stop me getting quite pissed at some of these lore points that are making no sense and cluttered. I might have missed many things during my hiatus. Maybe key points! But I’m still bitter nonetheless. Please prove to me it’s not as bad as I think.

Let’s start.

1. What have they done to Ballas.  What happened?? Why is this happening?? Ballas had a HUGE presence and had been teased for forever. I thought HE was the final boss.The Baddest Bad. The Charming Psychopath. He’s gonna lead the Sentients and the Army to a battle with the Tenno! He’s gonna manipulate Lotus against us!! 

...and then he’s Erra’s slave and is weak and meek and spineless. 

Gee, thanks for screwing over a character I GENUINELY had major interest in until that point. I LOVED him. I tease him a lot, but I enjoyed how he was portrayed. He looked horrible, but I genuinely and utterly adore him during the Umbra arc. He was just... really cool and calculating! He was very well presented!

And, yeah. Then that whole... half sentient thing happened. Yea.

Which leads me to...

2. Fuck the existence of Erra. Listen, if anyone tried to convince me that ERRA is basically more fitting as the ‘true’ evil and the sociopath that will manipulate Lotus/Natah and lead the sentient army to destroy everything is a good decision... I will flip my shit. 

Really? Really. Ballas was butchered for THIS DUDE who we never seen teased or talked about before. Shut up about him being Natah’s ‘brother’, I don’t care. I’d rather Grandpa Hunhow come back than this dude, who actually had FAILED to impress me a single bit (also because I can’t understand the hell he’s saying due to the gargled weird voice). Not even his design. Battaclysts and Conculysts, hell, even VOMVALYSTS have a more unique design than this dude. Hunhow was also intimidating as all hell and had a fantastic entrance. Erra is way, way lacking compared to them.

(Look, I ain’t saying he is a bad character forever. Obviously, we don’t know how cool he is from the 7 or so minutes we got of him... but come on. His first impression holding Ballas like a slave is already like a spit to my face. I know I’m really bitter about him rn, but for me he’s just really bland. just ‘I am eeevviilll’ and that’s it. Boring. I hope he improves. He BETTER improve if you had to sacrifice Ballas for him.)

And then, this.

3. Please reuse existing NPCs in a more interesting way. Fuck’s sake, they’RE A GOLD MINE. The moments I see Kela being the big baddy during the beach event. The times Alad show up to talk about Ropalolyst or whatever it’s called. We have NEF ANYO, MY FAVORITE BASTARD! We have Baro, we have Darvo. They had really interesting stories and moments, all of them! 

USE THEM!

Why make Erra when you can just use these people to make VERY interesting dynamics? Hell, how did the news of the Lotus turning her back against the Tenno not reach them? If it does, why do they do legit NOTHING? Really? Nobody’s gonna try side with the Tenno? Or maybe take advantage and go AGAINST them? Nobody’s gonna also spy on this Sentient progress at all? Anyone? 

Like... these characters already have a huge following. Artist renditions and community memes have made them really, REALLY strong assets. I REALLY hope they had this in mind and just waiting to release the content. If not, and INSTEAD, they make more new characters like fuckin ERRA, I’m boutta lose my shit.

And my last and maybe something that irked me the most...

4. The game’s focus has shifted from Warframes to Operators, and THEN treat Operators quite poorly.  Okay, this is biased. This is probably just me. And this one’s gonna be the longest. But I prefer silent protagonists who show off how awesome and cool they are INSTEAD of having whiny baby tweenagers who has cheesy edgy dialogues. I honestly liked them more when they were Warframes. They don’t talk much and get shit done. The Villains that talk more also shines through during those past cutscenes, giving them more of a presence. I even really, REALLY liked that prt where the enemies kept pointing out how Warframes are eyeless and voiceless. It’s just so cool. Now with the Operators talking back at times... it just ruined the scene for me. Please let villains shine more and shit talk me. Kicking their ass after felt way better. 

And don’t get me started on how much they keep showing up in recent cutscenes... it made me miss those old cutscenes where they don’t talk back and just stood and act awesome, in cool silence. Yes, I know kids and tweenagers are supposed to be ‘immature’, but I don’t think Warframe is the type of game where that sort of personality fit very well. I want them to have the same presence they have when they are in Warframes. I just think cutscenes these days don’t hit me the same way anymore. 

Please, please use assets like Umbra. Please stop showcasing the Operators more than Warframes. Please, I love my Warframes more. When is that Umbra mod coming up?? WHEN ARE MY BABIES GOING TO BE SENTIENT??

I think Operators are not a bad idea... but I think they need to be treated better than what they are treated like now. They’re so annoying for a main character. Can I go back to Warframes? 

tl;dr. my favorite villain I was highly interested in was butchered, some rando replaced him acting all important. Please just reuse old, interesting NPCs and please make my operators cooler and maybe give them better dialogues while not forgetting about Warframes being cool. Suffice to say I’m done seeing the lore churn down this direction. Thanks.

I am going to go through all the things mentioned in the call out and give my defenses, apologies or other statements on the regards to these. I am sorry if my wording is very poor here, as I started this at 1 am and worked on it across a few days with review from friends. I had asked for someone to also get me a list of my offenses from someone I know is a part of the callout but they didn’t get back to me with it so I may have missed things.

"Aging up a Minor for NSFW Content" and "Transphobia"

I can understand how me making NSFW content of a character build off of/inspired by a minor would make people extremely uncomfortable. When this was brought to my attention, I deleted the art in question on my main. I have no interest or intent on making further lewd art using Oe/Oeya, or any lewd art at all for that matter. (Should merevent return, I will likely create a new event muse entirely). After having it brought further to my attention, I feel nothing but regret for making it at all. I had thought that establishing him as much more different than his inspiration and making his age clear would keep this from being a problem but it appears that I was mistaken.

The transphobia I can also understand how people could see it, as I was toying with their shape shift ability in one of my first attempts at NSFW art. I deeply apologize if this experimentation made anyone reading this uncomfortable: know that it will never happen again. I am not transphobic.

To whoever in the ring of callout anons is distributing one or both of the deleted pieces of art, please stop.

"Homestuck Crimes"

I acknowledge that Homestuck has problematic elements. I understand that to some or even many that the negative outweighs the positive aspect. Homestuck also has a lot of creative elements that I like exploring. I properly tag Homestuck and those of the Homestuck AU I used for Bethesjo with "-character name- (HS)", to try and make it easy to avoid. If I mistag, I am open to people telling me so I may add the desired tags.

To repeat: I do not support many of the views expressed in Homestuck, but find some of the positive core aspects enjoyable, inspiring, or simply fun to mess with. It is something I enjoy, even with its problematic points and I apologize for making continual use of it for inspiration and ideas.

"Racism in making bestial / feral event versions of a PoC muse"

I, again, am very sorry for this. I tend to go wild with ideas for these events and create things without thinking of major implications.

When I made CnC Okuyasu an orc, I simply felt that it clicked. I always enjoyed Orcs aesthetically! The uncontrolled magic played into a favorite fantasy trope of mine, so I decided to use that too. When I created Oe, I, in all honesty, was just trying very hard to avoid drawing fish in any capacity or arms and had recently watched Moana. (Once again, I will likely create a new muse should merevent return for round 3) Magical Girl event Okuyasu was inspired by the combination of Tokyo Mew Mew and part of Magical Girl Apocalypse (that too having problematic things but I could not overlook them in their quantity, causing me to drop interest in the manga itself but not its concept). The Okuyasu embedded with the flesh bud (Okuyasu (Dio) in my tagging) was spawned by an art meme, but I grew to enjoy the idea. His minimal time shown due to lack of asks for him also paint him in a low point that does not reflect their state most of the time. When I created Nijimi, I wanted to play off the idea of deities being shaped by the human idea of them, using Okuyasu's money imagery to create a deity of charity turned into a beast of greed. (Should the deity event return, I will try and create a new muse for it: not only in light of this, but because I am unsure what else I can do with them and Nicho.) WoF Okuyasu was born from my interest in Mr. Nijimura's condition in context of undeath, wanting to do something similar with WoF Okuyasu while also playing with other tropes. The former Stand Infection event Okuyasu, now dubbed Ghost in the Machine, was meant to be a play in the unpredictable nature not only of glitches but someone hyped on caffeine. He also was the result of working with dio-theshitpost-brando and I was pulling too from their concepts. The new Stand Infection Okuyasu being identified with a number as shown in a few art memes was inspired by the SCP Foundation, not the holocaust or anything of the like. I know no one mentioned this in any call out material but I know that it would likely be used out of context too should I avoid acknowledging it.

As I hopefully go further into the future, I will try and think more of the implications of this, under all of the AUs, is a PoC minor. Again, I am sorry for causing any offense.

"The Cow Incident"

I will say that I should have been more firm but I will say that I view the general idea of adding horns, ears, and tail does not inherently make something negative, mostly the context or the content being made with this concept. The blogs, from my understanding, made multiple references to the act of milking, which then makes it awkward and uncomfortable. Making a direct comparison between PoC and cattle is also bad. Doing it simply for a cute design or without ill intent, in my eyes, is okay. I'm sorry if my stance still remains unclear or poorly worded or if you disagree.

"Comment Deletion and ignoring asks"

For those commenting on my YouTube channel, I did not do so because I was afraid or being overly defensive. I had stated my stances, apologies and regrets in other replies and felt like I was not being listened to and hounded. I deleted these comments and asks for the sake of my mental health, as I had fallen into a depressive episode at the large wave of angry anons.

Comments and asks deleted in the beginning of the cow incident were deleted to keep the discourse off The Hand blog and to minimize further asks on the matter, as it was 2 am at the time and I was getting very stressed over it.

“Headcanoning a Minor as Ace”

The funny thing is, I don’t headcanon Okuyasu as ace. As for saying that having headcanons of this nature is sexualizing minors I will say this: it depends on the age. Headcanon, say, a 6 year old as bi or gay or what have you seems a bit off but the teenage years are often when one discovers the labels for themselves and grows to be comfortable with them. Understanding your orientation is not inherently about someone having sex, but understanding what you as an individual find attractive in one way shape or form. I, myself, am ace. I used Okuyasu as my icon on my main for a long while now. I put Okuyasu with the ace flag for my main blog’s profile pic because I am proud to be ace and Okuyasu is who I associate with. Not to turn the gun, but the suggestion that headcanoning a character as ace is seen as worse than any other orientational headcanon is rather aphobic.

I am trying to improve myself every day. I want my blogs to be nice places, not just for me, but for the visitors. I had no ill intent when doing anything, but I also was unaware of the severity of the implications of my work. I am open to criticism and reminders to tag or rework things, but please be mindful that I’m only human and prone to human error and lapses in judgement. I also can try my damndest to fix what wrongs I have done.

I am going to let this circulate for a few days and then hopefully I can turn on anon once again without large waves of anger. I am sorry and I hope WE won’t have to do this again. - Z

How are Dragon Age:Inquisition and Mass Effect:Andromeda so far off from each other?

After playing for roughly 12 hours on ME:A, and easily 72+ on DA:I, I can hardly believe they’re made by the same company and it's extremely frustrating on multiple levels, both on the personal level and the consumer level and I really want to break it down and talk about it a bit because if people have some answers and explanations I’d be very grateful.

So I got into both franchises pretty late in the game (no pun intended), Mass Effect 3 for the WiiU was my first Mass Effect game, and Dragon Age: Inquisition is my first (hopefully not last, they totally have to be making more, right???) game from that series. And while the two games couldn’t be much more different if they tried, after doing a playthrough just before getting ME:A, I was extremely disappointed in Andromeda, and feel it was extremely over-hyped. I wanted to like it, I wanted to love it, I LOVED Mass Effect 3 and honestly I couldn’t be more upset with my purchase for a variety of reasons that I personally feel are pretty valid, and I’m sure some may disagree.

GRAPHICS:

I Honestly had very very high hopes for the graphics in Mass Effect Andromeda, After completing Horizon:Zero Dawn almost a week before, I was absolutely enamoured with where video game graphics are going for 2017 and with how pleased I was with Dragon Age: Inquisition, a game made by the same company (I know nothing of the individual teams that work on each franchise so there's a hole in my judgement there) I was actually floored at how positively dated the animation was. Its an only slight improvement over Mass Effect 3,  a bit smoother, a bit cleaner, but ultimately, not TOO much different. Its worth mentioning that with all the memes that got posted about Sarah Ryder’s infamous gun-grab empty gaze, something I had initially attributed to a poor choice of footage, was omnipresent in Mass Effect Andromeda, the facial expressions really are as bad and poorly engineered as the trailer would have you think, eyes blink at weird intervals, micro expressions are barely existent. Its almost awkward to watch the humans interact with each other most of the time. 

This is something I actually, considering it was released 2 years prior to ME:A, that DA:I did very well. expressions weren’t perfect obviously, but in contrast to Andromeda, they were believable, engaging, and matched the tone of a conversation and conveyed emotion relatively well. Its beyond me how the older game has a more polished look with significantly better facial content but It really is strikingly different.

Hair rendering is honestly kind of garbage in ME:A,  although DA:I didn’t do much better, but it was better, in my experience anyways. 

Eyelashes are... distracting.. they look fake, like glue-ons done improperly, like sometimes when characters close their eyes, the eyelashes like..fold over the eyelids, its honestly just so painful looking...

OPEN WORLD:

The open world in Mass Effect: Andromeda is obviously a growing trend that has its roots in the success of Skyrim, and space exploration is certainly a dauntingly large task! I support and acknowledge the choice by BioWare to make many planets and star systems for us to explore, but its almost.. distractingly large. Its messy, that's the only way I can explain it, and while the planets themselves are beautifully imagined, and actually the environments are gorgeously rendered and coloured, there's about 700 quests all the time that are pointless, and totally derail the story if you choose to follow them. I get that, it is a choice to follow and accept sidequests and some people really enjoy that, but unlike Dragon Age: Inquisition, Andromeda’s sidequests seem to be only vaguely tied to Ryder’s position and influence. Side quests weren’t as numerous and felt much more purposeful in Dragon Age, and the role of Inquisitor made completing these tasks like part of the inquisitor’s job, to secure trust in the inquisition. While Ryder seeks to earn trust in the Andromeda Initiative, it still feels...wrong, unnecessary to go help an engineer fix some broken panels when I’m sure theres a pletora of other suitable people this particular NPC could go to, and I find I feel this way a lot during the NPC interactions. It just seems baseless. 

Case in point: there's too much, its a game trend done in a weird, time-consuming manner that feels exhausting and unnecessary that I feel Dragon Age: Inquisition did a lot better, for an older game by the same company. 

SAME-SEX ROMANCE:

My final point on my rant before some finishing notes, inevitably comes back to the heart of me as a player, I’m a gay man, and I absolutely loved Dragon Age: Inquisition’s fleshed out, developed, and believable MLM romances. Dorian’s romance was extremely well-written, a smidge cliche, emotionally engaging and empathise (to myself at least). However, back in Andromeda my Ryder is currently romancing Gil, and while gil is actually one of the more expressive people on the ship, and people who have written articles on the matter claim he has the most developed and story-based romance (out of the 2 available, the other being a fling with little to offer), seems to be moving at a pace that is next to alarming and unnatural in comparison to Kaiden’s Romance in ME:3 and even more so than Dorian or Bull’s in Dragon Age: Inquisition (which for the record, I found appropriately paced and grew what felt like more naturally than it could have). The content is very minuscule for Gil in ME:A and I feel myself yearning for something more developed, more tangible, and as a couple, I was absolutely dumbfounded how quickly they went from being casual shipmates to holding hands on Eos. I was actually even caught off guard by the first flirt option, it seemed to do a totally uncalled for 180, just a bit too intimate for “meeting the crew” y’know? When we look at Dorian, we really see something blossom in a lovable, vulnerable way that just feels right. But with Gil, it leaves a lot to be desired and feels almost comical, and it's obvious it didn’t get much attention from the people who worked on it, which says a lot about how BioWare cares about gay men (not much apparently, at least in the Mass Effect Series so far). Which leaves me jilted towards the company and I’m unsure I will be so zealous to jump on the hype of future games. 

FINALLY...

While I’m certainly, and unapologetically talking some shit about BioWare and Mass Effect Andromeda, I have a lot of love for them and while I feel almost bored with Andromeda, I am enjoying it nonetheless. Its not a horrible game, just certainly not what it was played up to be. I certainly would not have preordered the deluxe edition for almost $100CAD had I know it was going to be like this. If you haven’t gotten it yet, I suggest you wait until you can get it on super-sale, Black Friday, or once it hits bargain-bins even. 

I’m sure I’ve said some things that some of you feel is unfair, and I invite you to challenge or correct me on it, I think a dialogue is healthy, and I realize comparing Dragon Age to Mass Effect is pretty apples to oranges, but it really does beg the question how the company can make Dragon Age as enriched and polished as it was, and then two years later, release a game that seems like it actually predates its chronological predecessor?

Appearing before the Dramacourt: Man to Man Ep 02

Analysis:

Jubiemon J: Man x Man’s episode two was interesting and fun despite a few negative parts! I enjoyed the comedic scenes like the ones that poked fun at celebrities’ lives and an overused running scene with the two leads in Korean rom coms. I laughed pretty hard when I saw Woon Gwang doing all he could to get his chicken. Honestly, I think people who are on diets can understand his pain. (You also sympathise with the celebrities we see who have to diet to get that ideal body. Pretty sure managers do control and limit their snacks or what not like in this drama.) I also really liked how we are getting to know Woon Gwang as a character through Sulwoo’s observations as a spy. Sulwoo is an expert at reading characters, so it’s easy for us to believe his description of Woon Gwang.

Jubiemon J: Now the bad parts to this drama . . . The political scenes were again dry, but luckily they weren’t terribly long like in Whisper or the Defendant. I understand that they are necessary to get the plot going, but I feel like the comedic scenes are far more memorable than the dark back drop. I actually think if they had gone with some evil mastermind or the leader of some group like in the movie Spy, that’d be better. Somehow this political part just . . . feels overdone now that so many Kdramas are taking a stab at it. (I get that there have been some political issues in Korea, so that’s probably why the Kdramas are sticking to showcasing corruption. However, when so many of them are doing this . . . the message gets lost, I think . . . especially when you start mixing genres together like comedy.)

Jubiemon J: That political section doesn’t bother me THAT much because this drama does try to minimize the scenes. What bothers me the most is the character, Cha Do Ha. Her existence is a huge setback to this drama. There’s no need for romance here or her whiny attitude when Sulwoo is just focused on the mission. Yes, I get that in spy films, the male spies generally have some femme fatale, but honestly . . . this drama could have put a better comedic spin to this. They made her into a hormone-filled cringey fan girl who keeps raging at Sulwoo or trying to act all cutsey around Woong Gwang who clearly sees her as a good employee/fan girl. Not to mention, they gave her the worst haircut that’s uneven. I can’t even call it asymmetrical because it wasn’t supposed to be like that type of haircut. Her haircut is like the meme with the cat with the green pomelo hat. I just can’t take it. (Look at the poorly cut ends. Man. Cringe.)

RedRosette J: I was raving about the first episode because it had all the spy stuff going for it and in this episode the spy stuff took a back seat while the characters figured out how they fit into the plot with each other. Like Jubiemon said, the running on the highway montage in the PJs was absolutely hilarious, as was the Chicken Run. This drama seems to do really well with the comedic aspects of spy-action. Like Jubiemon, I too am tired of the politics in kdramas lately. It’s over done and seems unnecessary. I tended to zone out and skip the politics scenes.

That being said, Park Haejin is doing a stellar job with Sulwoo. The character comes off as a closed person who doesn’t really show his cards and is an enigma to everyone else in the drama, but with his handler, he is a totally different, vivacious, boyish guy who loves to do normal things like play video games. Park Haejin really portrays the duality of a spy’s life really well. And just as much as he is a great actor, Kim Min Jung, unfortunately falls short. Like Jubiemon said, the acting is over the top, cringey and just annoying. It was fine (for me at least) in the first episode where she didn’t have much screen time, but when she was cooing and squealing every few minutes it got very old, very fast. I feel like she’s over doing the ‘carefree’ aspect of the character to show how different Do Ha’s character is from Sulwoo so their personalities stand out in stark contrast when on screen, but come on. Does she have to be so cringey?

My one criticism of this episode is the ending speeding car chase. I find it hard to believe that someone with Sulwoo’s super spy skills failed to realize beforehand that the stunt car was tampered with! Not to mention, he saw the guy tamper with the car and leave, yet he did nothing to stop Woon Gwang from getting in the car! Yes he was being held back by Do Ha, but we’ve established that she’s barely a real obstacle so….Yes, Yes, its because they wanted to include a fancy shmancy car chase scene but I found it really hard to believe given the info we were fed about his super skills up until that point!

Issue 1: Whether job interviews should include horoscope compatibility questions

RedRosette J: So I get that this was supposed to be for comedic effect, but I think that her annoying demeanor totally turned me off. If it was supposed to be a funny interview, I just wasn’t sold on it. That being said, being asked horoscope compatibility questions at a job interview, while it would be totally funny, it would not be productive to either parties. I really didn’t understand the point of this scene, except that she was trying to grill him and make him feel uncomfortable, but what really ended up happening was me skipping the scene because I got annoyed. Although I will say that it would be kind of nice to be asked a funny question at the end of a formal interview!

RedRosette J Aside: The weirdest interview question I’ve ever been asked is: ‘if you could be a phone, what phone would you be?

Jubiemon J: I too understand this was supposed to be for fun, but I was really annoyed at how she was doing that for the sake of getting rid of him. I still don’t really get how he offended her. She was the one that first rudely went up and assumed he was paparazzi and deleted his photos. Sure, she is supposed to be the one that points out that Sulwoo is suspicious, but her character just is set up in a way that makes it seem like she’s interfering with his mission in a totally unfunny manner.

Jubiemon J Aside: The weirdest interview question I”ve been asked would be: “Who is a figure that you hate and why?” To answer RedRosette’s interview question, I would have been a total troll and said your phone.

RedRosette J: I am not a morning person and I have such trouble waking up, but yea I think someone hanging a homemade IED in front of my face would wake me up so fast, it would probably be a world record! This scene was one of my favourites from this episode. Sulwoo has some serious swag man….casually building IEDs in the bathroom and what not.

Jubiemon J: Personally, I never understood the issues with getting up because I’ve never been the sort to sleep in. That being said, I also dislike mornings. Regardless, I do know of people who struggle to get up in the mornings, so this IED Sulwoo made would definitely be effective!

Issue 3: Whether the subway scene with the random Black guy was okay

RedRosette J: At first this scene was funny. Then they introduced the random Black guy and it became not funny real fast. I didn’t appreciate how they made this guy into a sketchy person and had Woon Gwang freak out when he saw him. Just because he’s Black doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy. People really need to stop these archaic associations of blackness with evil. Honestly. It’s really not funny. Please stop. #notimpressed

Jubiemon J: I also didn’t like how this drama inserted this scene as well. However, I have to say that based on my experiences in some bigger cities in Asia like Taipei or Tokyo, people do sometimes get surprised or shocked when they see a Black person. A lot of times it’s because these areas are very homogeneous for their population, so they’ve never seen a Black person. I can understand with the surprise that comes to that or genuine curiosity about another culture; however, I still don’t like how in this drama, everyone’s response seemed to be more out of the fearful type of surprise like they were freaked that the Black guy might hurt Woon Gwang.

The only thing that they did right later was when Sulwoo was explaining to Do Ha how he never let Woon Gwang into some danger zone during that scene were she was bitching at him at a restaurant. Sulwoo didn’t mention the Black guy as a threat at all and talked about getting rid of the drunk, Korean guy who was coming at Woon Gwang. I’d like to think that in this case, the Black Guy’s presence was also to show the difference between Woon Gwang and Sulwoo. Sulwoo doesn’t identify someone as being a threat based on their race; he’s not racist at all. Woon Gwang, on the other hand, seems to have lived in a bubble and based on his action, he either hasn’t interacted much with other cultures or may be racist. Either way . . . I think this drama would have been better without this Black Guy scene.

Issue 4: Whether the fight for chicken was reasonable

RedRosette J: This scene had me laughing so much. By far the best scene in the episode. They actually made Woon Gwang’s Chicken Run into a spy-action sequence. Absolutely hilarious and totally believable. People will go to extreme lengths to eat fatty, greasy foods when on “diets”! The best part about it was the whole “romance in the alley” type scene with Woon Gwang and Sulwoo fighting for the drumstick. If this was any other kdrama, it would have been a perfect set up for a accidental kiss while fighting for a drumstick! LOL!

Jubiemon J: This Chicken Run was the best! Okay that hand-holding part was hilarious too. I loved both equally. I do think this shows very well the feelings that people get when they’re going through a diet! You definitely have cravings of junk food and there are times when you absolutely must eat that something. I totally pity the celebrities who have to go through great lengths to get whatever body they’re achieving. Mad props to them. I really enjoyed the bromance the two shared while bonding over this Chicken Run. I’m absolutely sure Sulwoo would have given Woon Gwang that drumstick had Do Ha hadn’t barged in. Ha!

Issue 5: Whether Cha Do Ha is even necessary for this drama

RedRosette J: TBH, I really liked the parts of the drama where Cha Do Ha wasn’t in and when she wasn’t talking. The character really doesn’t seem to do much to advance the plot except be “cute” except that she’s not cute because it’s (as we said before) extremely cringey and ridiculous to see a grown ass woman behaving like this. Unless the character gets a major overhaul and stops being cringey, I am unlikely to become her fan anytime soon. I would be perfectly happy with Park Hae Jin and Park Sung Woong’s bromance thank you very much.

Jubiemon J: No, she’s not necessary for this drama. I too enjoyed the scenes where she doesn’t interfere with Sulwoo’s mission. People should start a game where they drink whatever whenever they hear her say something like “I want to talk to you Sulwoo”. I swear within this episode, we’ve heard that line repeated at least four times? We’ve mentioned numerous times about why she has been cringey, so I’m not going to be repetitive here. I also don’t think a full-on love plot would serve this drama well. Sulwoo’s character honestly doesn’t feel like the type that’d fall for her. Perhaps the goal was for him to fall for someone so not within his usual type that it’d be funny. Unfortunately, I’m having trouble seeing an obsessive, borderline sassaeng with a cool spy.

Issue 6: Whether Mo Seung-Jae and Song Mi-Eun are in an unhealthy marriage

RedRosette J: As I said before, I don’t really care for these two characters. I’m totally over this whole rich chaebol married couples who play political mind games with each other like some twisted foreplay scenario that most dramas seem to have lately. Honestly. I really don’t care for these two. He seems like a psycho and she seems to be just as evil. Whatever. Ugh.

Jubiemon J: Though I don’t care that much about these characters like RedRosette, I still think it’s important to point out that they are in a very unhealthy relationship. I do like how it is realistic for this drama to portray that the seemingly perfect marriage to the outside world is really not so perfect. Often we only see the perfect side of some relationship because people only share the best sides on social media. We think all those people are in perfect, glowy relationships, but that might not always be true.

Song Mi Eun seems to have sacrificed love to marry for the rich, at least so far it’s portrayed that way. It might be darker than that like Mo Seung Jae blackmailing to hurt Woon Gwang if she continued to be with him. We already saw that Seung Jae hired someone to mess with Woon Gwang’s car just because his son was saying how Woon Gwang as a superhero was the best and that he’d watch that movie a lot with his mom. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the one behind Woon Gwang’s previous stunt accident in a car as well.

Seung Jae really is dangerous and way too controlling. Mi Eun can’t even act like herself in front of him, it seems. She always has to seem like the perfect woman and be careful with how she phrases words. It’s clear she still has some lingering feelings for Woon Gwang because she tries to make sure Woon Gwang’s career is successful and tries to convince her husband to invest in his movie. Obviously her husband isn’t stupid and sees through her seemingly innocent business venture. That’s why he says he’s fine with giving pity money, but not with the . . . son fanboying over Woon Gwang as a super hero. This relationship would have been healthier if Seung Jae just communicated to her his jealousy. He just needed Woon Gwang to be gone instead. Ugh. No.

Conclusion: Appeal Allowed.

Rating: 3 = MM. Okay. Fine. (Mostly because we don’t like Kim Min Jung’s character and the draggy political plot. Jubiemon J remark: I don’t hate that political part that, that much since the drama did try to minimize the scenes. They should employ that with Kim Min Jung’s character too. Cut her character out.)
