The ascians are NOT the ancients and their beliefs and actions cannot be considered one and the same. The Ancients had no issues with the past nor the future, and nothing in the game indicates anything of the sort.

Everything the Ascians did was because they were TEMPERED. Zodiark guided their thoughts and actions in murdering millions and causing the calamities. They literally had their minds and beliefs altered and swayed over 10000 years. What Emet Selch "can and can't understand" is wholly irrelevant - and he understands it all clearly, he just doesn't fucking care.

The Ancients WERE just, factually, superior to the current citizens of the shards in many ways - they literally had the powers of creation at their fingertips. Whether or not their society was BETTER is a different question entirely. To argue the ethics of what they did is a good point - to accuse them all of being fascists is not.

Emet is an amazing villain because we can all understand how easy it is to sympathize with him and even imagine ourselves becoming him - what lengths would we go to to save everyone we knew and loved? It's a fair question to pose to the Warrior of Light, one Elidibus also backs up when he claims we're no more than a weapon of the light.

The OP makes a ton of assumptions about Ancient culture and lifestyle that we simply don't have. How do we know they all had their basic needs met? Could you claim that Hermes did? There's too much we don't know about their world and their lives to make baseless accusations like that.

(Okay, so I'm almost halfway through Translation State and I just... why do these three make me feel so much?! I need someone to talk to about this but no one in my life is reading it (yet), so, welp, here we go)

There is just something about the way Reet just lives his life feeling like there is something so deeply wrong with him & like he never fits in with anyone & how he admires Enae for hir social skills (we love a neurodivergent king)

While Enae (my child adult) - for whom it was a necessity to grow these antennae to feel out everyone's moods before they even enter the room and to act accordingly - is maybe just a little too good at keeping hir cards close to hir chest and fitting in and acting in precisely the way others expect of hir... (although sie's learning and growing and all that, but that's a whole different post)

But Enae doesn't seem to mind Reet's mannerisms and actually appreciates him being unable to do anything but speak his mind

and we don't get much of Reet's reaction here but just- my heart 😭😵‍💫😖💞 (screaming, crying, throwing up, etc)
