These are my pages showing my development of pleats, tucks and experimentation with decorations such as fibres and lace.
The pages show my process of trying out different folding techniques to find some that I think will work well for my final garment. When creating these samples I felt as if the 2 way pleat and smocking would work well for my bodice part of the dress. As it is a Georgian style garment, it will be a tight corset and I feel that the texture these samples give would work really great on a bodice.
Today was my second workshop and I got the opportunity to do pleats and couching which were two separate techniques yet so amazing outcomes. During the session we were focusing on using straight/ standard foot for both of the techniques. We had an introduction to use the sewing machine, I've used one before but not the model Bernina, it was fairly straight forward.
I really enjoyed creating the pleats where I sewn them in different directions. My samples were indeed successful especially the one where I pleated in the directions of the fence photo and cut away the first layer. I do not see any weaknesses within my samples.
some samples I made:
Leopard print - I focused on just the pleat sizes, I chose the fabric and the colours are very natural as well as the pattern reminding me of gaps for plant to grow through representing determination.
Brown fabric - I used this fabric to create pleats and the pin tuck technique, additionally the colour was very natural.
Lacey fabric - when working with this fabric it pulled to the side abit I couldn't tell if it was the tension or the material, all I had to do was rethread it. when sewing the pleats it turned out admirable, the next step I did was I cut through the first layer of fabric to expose the Lace underneath (representing the beauty of something coming through the ground)
the next sample I decided to experiment with the directions of pleats, I didn't think to much into it so I went with the flow and created a gorgeous unique outcome.
I interpreted a photograph of a branch wrapped around a fence by pleating straight lines into the fabric then express the branch by sewing wiggly lines.
