"I don't know if you're the last person I wanted to see, or the first." The words were honest as they could be as Aria sipped from her coffee, eyes staying on the figure that had paused beside her table. She had only been back in town for an hour or two, and couldn't stand to go home first. So the next best thing was where she was - the coffee shop that they had spent so much of her high school years at. "It's only been four years, I haven't changed that much."
y’all have an old special interest that haunts you like its bad and you don’t like it but you have a deep connection to it but also it makes you so frustrated you want to scream but also you love some of the characters but also you have all this cursed knowledge but you have affection for it but you could never rewatch/read/etc it because it physically pains you… anyways mine is pretty little liars
Oh, there are so many, don't get me started. I only finish them because I feel obligated to, not because I enjoy the 'plot' anymore. Yet Netflix keeps cancelling the good ones.

additional + background info!
the name of their show is ‘affluenza’. it’s a slasher/drama/mystery/thriller. think gossip girl meets scream mtv series and pll: the perfectionists!
jeno started acting in minor roles when he was 9. his breakout role was playing the son of the seasoned actor, arthur kim, in the movie “written in the stars” when he was 12
percy grew up exposed to show business kasi marami syang kamag-anak sa industriya (the most prominent ones being her parents — her mother is a singer and actress while her dad is the famous actor-turned-director, arthur kim), pero she didn’t start acting until she was 13, after getting casted in the series “something great” kung saan niya nakilala si haechan
jeno and percy are known for being box office royalties. madalang gumawa ng series projects si jeno and is mostly known as a movie actor, while percy does both
percy and haechan are not a loveteam, pero dahil tatlong beses na sila nagkaproject together (two movies, one teleserye) maraming nagshiship sa kanila
most of them are artists under the same company (sm ent din pangalan kasi i’m unoriginal and could not be bothered to think of a new name 💀)
pinsan ni jeno si wonwoo at half-brother ni haechan si mingyu… this is kinda irrelevant info gusto ko lang ilagay HAHAHAHAHA
jeno has an older sister named arden while percy is an only child
i'll never forgive pretty little liars for 2 big things
romanticizing and making endgame the teacher/student romance cause what the FUCK was that. anyone who enjoyed the series now a days looks back on it like "huh. yeah that. that was weird."

Next day Alison tells the lairs that she killed Alison and she is actually Courtney Spencer aria Emily and Alex and Hanna and Stella forgive Courtney and keep her secret
But what if, in a show like PLL, at least one of the main characters was trans and she had some sort of short coming out arc where the « lie » is that she is pretending to be a cis dude and has to accept who she really is before somebody (in this case « A ») uses it to hurt her? Sort of like how Emily came to terms with her sexuality and that has greatly helped her since « A » didn’t have any power over her anymore? If there was a trans female character on the show (I’m not counting Charlotte because literally nothing about her made sense and I’m not acknowledging seasons 3 to 7), I believe it would have been interesting to see how she would have evolved from that while also having to deal with other aspects of her life (like, actual bad stuff that she is hiding and that have zero things to do with her being trans)
Hmmm so I see what you're getting at, like I can definitely appreciate the intention of a taking-back-power-from-attempted-shaming type of story, but honestly I'm still super wary of framing anything with a coming out story as lying.
I understand that there are as many ways to be trans as there are trans people, but given the current state of anti trans public discourse, I just don't trust mainstream television to handle a nuanced conversation like this.
To celebrate the season finale of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin I will finish watching Pretty Little Liars (again! 😂) since I fell asleep around episode 5x25. Which is like one of my fave episode tbh.
I still remember getting so excited to see Aria’s darker side during season 7. Her playing on A.D’s side or possibly being A.D. herself was so juicy and had so much potential. Realizing that the motivation behind that was once again all about Ezra was one of the biggest disappointments on PLL for me. It still is, during every single rewatch.
hey! i've been rewatching s6-7 of pll and your posts on my dash got me thinking. what are your thoughts on the inclusion of liam's character and aria's police report in the time skip, if you have any? interesting choice for a show that up until that point refused to acknowledge age gaps, even within the context of ezra and aria
i haven't reached that point in my rewatch yet, and i only have some vague memories, but i loved that aria made that report. she frames it as a form of revenge that she immediately regretted, but i think at least a part of her knows she's been seriously hurt by ezra, and that she was indeed a victim in that situation. it makes sense that she would take it back too, because she's very protective of ezra and of the idea that their relationship was a good thing for her -- natural responses from someone who's been groomed as she was.
unfortunately, the show dropped the whole thing against ezra, and i don't really like any of the decisions made in the last season... that was a mess, and almost unrecognizable as pll. the campiness was there, but the writing was awful, they just seemed to not care about the characters anymore.
liam's character was kind of a wasted opportunity imo. he and aria should've bonded more over their respective affairs with teachers. though tbh liam was kind of annoying, so maybe that's why he disappeared. still, there were a number of male characters/possible love interests that orbited aria and never really got anywhere. i think that makes some kind of sense -- she was enthralled with ezra, and other men (or, especially, boys her own age) stood no chance at all. the false promises of aria's age appropriate love interests did convey that she had become emotionally dependent of ezra, psychologically chained to him in a really unhealthy way, because he fostered that dependency on her. but on the other hand, a lot of it does feel like wasted potential. the worst example of wasted potential imo was malcolm, ezra's fake kid. the plot was a perfect way to make aria see the gap between her life as a teenager and ezra's life as an adult man, and she did see that -- i don't have a problem with the fact that she eventually got back with him anyway, because that does feel right for her character arc at that point in time, but the way the subplot was resolved was so hilariously bad. i wish the reveal had never happened, and malcolm and maggie just continued to exist in the background. it wouldn't have to change anything if they moved to another town because ezra being an absent father would be 100% in character.
but getting back to the police report, i actually don't think that was entirely new. the show never really shied away from acknowledging the fact that aria and ezra's relationship was illegal, and that's actually one of the major tensions early on. the show even explores how aria feels burdened by the secret, and guilty over possibly ruining ezra's life. she feels entirely responsible for his decision to date his teenage student, and that causes her a lot of hurt. so it didn't exactly surprise me that the show would venture into that territory again, i just wish they'd wrapped it up better and stopped trying to appeal to ezria shippers.
like, rewatching the show i really think aria/ezra is initially a well written relationship, and that the show does explore the ways in which it's very unhealthy for aria, it just doesn't commit to it in later seasons. there are many great moments where it's clear that the writers understand the issues there, but those are always followed by cowardice and bad writing.
