Encanto Headcannons because this movie has a chokehold on me
- Antonio has one-sided beef with Isabella. Since her flowers attract annoying bugs, she would grow Venus fly traps, pitcher plants, sundew, etc. I don’t think I need to explain why Antonio doesn’t like this. He uproots any that he finds
- Isabella is aroace imo, in the movie we see her grow hydrangeas before Markiplier Mariano comes for dinner. Columbia has a superstition that if you have hydrangeas in a house with single women, they will never marry. 👀 (of course this is just me projecting a bit, I’m aware that it was actually just cuz she didn’t want to marry Mariano, pls don’t take this too seriously)
- Dolores’s room is not sound proof like other people say. Since her superhuman hearing ability is used to protect the Encanto, I wouldn’t be surprised if she was the only one without a soundproof room. Poor girl 😔.
- Antonio, Dolores, and Bruno gossip with each other, they have so much dirt on EVERYONE
- If you shake Bruno’s head, his eyes respond like a magic 8-ball /hj
- Dolores is normally fine with all the noises she hears all day, but the second dinner time is over, she’s done, straight to her room, don’t talk to her.
- Abuela is NOT-I repeat-NOT homophobic, IDC if it doesn’t make sense for their time period, I will forever stand by my opinion that she truly couldn’t care less if anyone in the family was lgbt+
- Bruno tugs on his rauna when stressed and that’s part of the reason why it has some rips in the fabric
- Bruno is the flavor of autism where he doesn’t know when his eye contact is too much “❇️_❇️”
- Luisa, Dolores, and Pepa love romance novels, they have a book club together
- Mirabel and Alma like to paint with each other, I’d also like to think that Alma made the family tree in the kitchen
- Alma taught Mirabel how to sew when she was younger, so she had something to do when everyone else is busy
- Camilo mimicks people’s mannerisms without realizing, but it’s often mistaken for mocking
Feel free to include your own!!

MORE MAMALORES PLS 🙇‍♀️ I love your content sm 😭
Thank you so much!
I’m not sure what you want to hear specifically, but let’s talk about what the rest of the grandkids are up to.
Luisa (24) is the next Madrigal to be married off. She’s managed to avoid it for a few years because of how busy she is, but with only one great-grandchild after all this time, Alma is getting a little impatient. She’s gotten some time off work recently to spend time with potential suitors. Needless to say, she’s very stressed.
Camilo (20) is the golden boy of the Madrigals, quite literally given his colour. He has basically adopted all the attention and praise Isabela left behind since her marriage to Mariano (and the following disappointment that she hasn’t been able to have a child). He is the example that young Antonio is being held to.
Mirabel (20) has not been enthusiastic about sharing her room with Dolores’ son and is desperately praying that this (Antonio’s fifth birthday) is the end of that. She is hugely shadowed and forgotten in the family. And usually missing at meals or ceremonies, not that anyone has noticed her absence.

im no baby, im a big brave girl! (and big girls dont cry!)
Eyy I’m finally done! This fic is dedicated to our dearest (and my favorite) authors, @wikluk and @adabofblessings!!! Since this is for said authors, I added small easter eggs for each. If u know, then u know ;)
Summary: Following her disastrous gift ceremony, little Mirabel thinks she isn’t allowed to sleep in the nursery anymore because she had her fifth birthday and that’s when the kids leave the nursery. Since there’s no other (her own) room for her, she feels the need to leave Casita, so she packs her things and tries to do so but she’s caught by Julieta/Agustin/both of them. Read to find out ;)

Happy reading! (constructive criticism is welcome!)
...
As soon as her big and pure eyes welled up with shiny tears, Julieta practically snatched Mirabel away, swiftly taking her to the nursery as whispers emitted from the courtyard. Something unexpected had happened; her door had dissipated into nothing, leaving a confused five-year-old looking to her parents for guidance. The event had shocked the whole Encanto at that very moment, and Pepa may or may not have thundered a couple of times, Julieta didn't notice, however, as her focus was locked on her youngest and her youngest only.
People are going to talk and she knew it, all of them did. But Julieta couldn't bring herself to care, all she could bring herself to think about is her Mirabel – her sweet and precious little mariposa that deserved every ounce of happiness.
As soon as she shut the door behind them, the tears that hung in Mirabel's eyes suddenly burst out, her body wracked with sobs as she cried into the fabric of Julieta's clothes. She clenched her mami's dress like a lifeline, her tiny knuckles turning pearly white. Julieta chewed at the inside of her cheek as she held her baby close to her chest, walking over to the bed meant for toddlers.
Mirabel, being a premature baby – although it's still slightly concerning on Julieta's part – had its perks. Fortunately, one of the said perks is being able to cuddle with her mamá on a single bed because of her smaller size.
As Mirabel and Julieta curled up together on the nursery bed, muffled sounds of Alma coaxing everyone to leave could be heard as well as what could possibly be the next hurricane started brewing, the temperature dropping significantly. Soft and barely audible squeaks were heard beyond the door and por dios, who knows what kind of nonsense rumors Dolores was currently hearing. The little voices of Isabela and Luisa bombarding their papá with questions about their hermanita made Julieta's heart constrict by an inch or two.
No one had answers right now.
Not that she minded, chasing Mirabel's sadness away is her mission at the moment.
"Mami?" her raw voice broke the older woman out of her thoughts as she sniffled quietly.
"Yes, mi vida?"
"Why didn't I get a gift? Did I do something wrong? Is Abuela mad at me?"
She ignored the feeling of her lungs ceasing to function. Just the fact that her hija's mind is currently raising with such thoughts gave her an unsettling sensation in the pit of her stomach.
"I have no idea, corazón. Your Abuela could never be mad at you, she's simply just as surprised as the rest of us are." she stroked her curly locks with her fingers, eyes never leaving her glossy ones.
"I thought maybe Abuela's angry with me and that's why I didn't get a gift."
Mirabel and transgression do not mix. How could a toddler be capable of committing a horrible mistake for the miracle to reject her? It's simply implausible, especially when she seems to have a special connection to Casita more than anyone else in the family.
"You did nothing wrong, amor. You did everything you were told. Your papi, Isa, Lulu, and I are so proud of you for being brave out there." she booped Mirabel on the nose, making her tears momentarily halt as she gave a small smile.
Good.
She's still smiling despite the circumstances.
"I was?"
"Sí, mi vida, you were mi valiente bebé!" she gave her daughter a tight hug, driving out some giggles from the toddler.
"I'm no baby, mamá! I was a big brave girl out there!"
"Ay mi vida, bebé or not, you're still our brave little mariposa." she attacked the young girl with smooches to the face, eliciting loud and hearty squeals.
Julieta internally smiled wide as Mirabel stopped crying, her focus was now on her dress, tiny fingers tracing every detail of embroidery on her clothes. She had always been interested in these kinds of things, the healer couldn't help but wonder if her youngest would grow up to be a tailor, just like her papi. Once Mirabel began dumping her mamá with questions about yarn and such, she released a breath she didn't know she held. Her hija was here, she was fine. She was able to chase the sadness away this time.
The failed gift ceremony would awaken something else within the family, she knew. Based on mamá's reaction alone, it had already started. The way her warm expression flashed multiple emotions in such a short duration could make anyone who had witnessed it stutter. Warmth, confusion, horror, stone-cold, professional, it was almost terrifying. She kept her gaze on Mirabel and wished the stars that she wouldn't be faced with any more burdens. She may have dodged the burdens of having a gift, but she knows it won't stop there. This time, she’ll be forced to carry the heavy weights of being giftless.
All alone too.
Because she is the first. The first to be centered in an unimaginable light. She's the only Madrigal who was born into the family only to not receive a blessing from the candle. Had the candle deemed her unworthy? Did they simply have to retry the whole ceremony to get a gift? Or did the candle truly just have other plans for Mirabel?
Too many questions and none to be answered, sadly.
"Mira?"
"Yes, mami?" she looked up to her madre, an innocent glow in her eyes.
"Promise me you'll be my strong amor. Stand tall and be proud of who you are, be brave no matter what happens. Because gift or no gift, you're just as special as anyone else in this family. Do you understand?"
Mirabel smiled brightly, the twinkling of her irises unfading at the newfound strength. "Of course mami, I promise!" she held up her pinky and Julieta followed as their fingers curled against one another. "I pinky promise!"
Her heart swelled with affection and she couldn't hold back the maternal instinct that flooded her entire being at that moment. For the millionth time today, she showered Mirabel with kisses as she squirmed. "Bien. ¡Ay, te amo mi cosa linda!" she exclaimed between the spray of smooches.
The toddler's squirms died down as soon as Julieta hummed her a soothing lullaby. She'd always favored this tune, even when she was an unborn baby living in her womb. She recalled Mirabel was a restless baby, always making her mamá's heart flutter with each movement she made. Whenever she heard the voice of someone she liked, she'd kick and maneuver with double enthusiasm. Once, Agustín had been talking to a very awake Mirabel as Julieta lay resting on the bed, listening to the conversation her esposo started with the baby about how chocolate is created. Out of nowhere, Mirabel unknowingly kicked Julieta's spine and had her bedridden for a good week, but her hija didn't need to know that. She followed her soft singing with gentle strokes on her back, hoping to ease any remaining traces of pain her mariposa was feeling.
As if on cue, the door to the nursery echoed with a soft knock, followed by a creek. Agustín peaked his head in the small crack, followed by Isabela and Luisa. "Hey mis amores, are we interrupting anything?"
Mirabel perked up, eyes wide and clear with excitement. "Papi! Isa! Lu!" she gently released herself from her mother's grasp before speeding to the door, letting all three of them in.
He chuckled as he watched all of his hijas hold each other in tight hugs, their chubby cheeks colliding together from the side. "I'll take that as a no." he ruffled Mirabel's hair as she giggled. "Doing good, Miraboo?"
"Yes, Papá!" She moved to hug his legs and was surrounded by her sisters in a second. She let go and faced them, only to bring them both into another embrace. The sweet display warmed the parent's hearts, possibly faster than some of Pepa's mood swings. Julieta stood up and regarded Agustín, hand automatically reaching in to hold his big and warm one as they looked at the scene before them.
"We were worried about you, Mira." Isabela quietly admitted and with a wave of her hand, she created Mirabel's favorite flower as she tucked it between her brown strands.
"Yeah, I thought something bad happened. I was ready to fight for you!" Luisa said, pulling her little sister off her feet and setting her on her shoulders while securely holding her thighs, making Mirabel shine bright and squeal in surprise.
"I'm okay, hermanas. Mami said I was a big brave girl out there!" she said with as much smugness she could muster. She glanced at her mother with a smile before diverting her attention back to her sisters.
"Mami said I'm brave too, you know." Isabela piped in with a playful roll of her eyes.
"Uh-huh, were you brave when you found an ant living in one of your flowers?"
"Hey! At least I didn't scream as loud as Luisa did when a butterfly landed on her finger!" she retorted.
"I want no part in this conversation." Luisa inquired with raised eyebrows.
"You don't like butterflies, Luisa? You make me sad." she feigned offense.
As the light-hearted conversation turned into some ordinary sibling bickering, Julieta instinctively squeezed Agustín's hand tighter as the latter reciprocated the action. She hoped this bond between their girls wouldn't change despite the events earlier.
At some point in the night, the girls had somehow squeezed themselves into Mirabel's bed without one of them falling off as they drifted into a peaceful slumber together.
Julieta looked on, her tilted head slightly; she couldn't help the toothy grin and contented sigh that slipped out.
Agustín bumped her hip with his. "We raised tres niñas pequeñas properly, didn't we?"
She hummed in response, her eyes never leaving the relaxed expressions of their daughters. He's right; Isabela, despite sealing herself off ever since her gift ceremony, is still the same bebé they had held in their arms after her birth, always so thoughtful and sweet. And Luisa, oh their adorable niña. She'd had unfortunately taken her overworking habit after her madre, though that didn't stop her from being equally loving and caring to everyone. Lastly, Mirabel. Ay, this child, such a young soul, and yet she's already gone through too much for her age. But even after being rejected by the candle, she kept a brave face. The way Mirabel's eyes welled up with tears as she looked longingly at her parents. The way none of those tears spilled until she was alone and in her mother's arms is a sight Julieta wouldn't forget anytime soon. The image will be permanently drilled into Julieta's skull, as well as Agustín's, despite his absence during the first half of their little get-away circle in the nursery.
It was getting rather late, however, Agustín didn't want to have to leave their side, especially not so soon after what had happened. It seemed like Julieta read his mind, for she felt the same, the idea of leaving her niñas right now could fall down a well, for all she cared. Suddenly, an idea popped up in her head and she glanced around the room.
"Casita?" the wooden floor flipped in response.
"Could you fetch me a double mattress, pillows, and a blanket por favor?” Julieta asked, “We would like to sleep here for the evening."
And just like that, with another flip of the wooden floorboards, a mattress came into frame, along with the pillows and blankets she'd asked for. Considering everything had come from under the floorboards, Julieta was utterly surprised when she noticed that none of the items were dusty or molded. Their magical casa truly works wonders, as her mamá said.
She smiled and patted the wall, hoping to convey the message that she was grateful. "Gracias, Casita." The house repeated its earlier actions, but this time, it bounced a roll of blue yarn up and down in response to Julieta.
They both settled down, pulling one another close as they pondered today's happenings. Today had been hectic indeed, from making sure the food and decorations were well-prepared, to fretting over Mirabel, the parents were expecting a perfect day, but today was far from perfect. Instead, they got themselves a bittersweet day.
They weren't blind to the misery of the Madrigals, no. They could see it in themselves, but also others. The way Pepa would walk around with a looming cloud threatening to spill water, almost like her own tears. The way Félix would follow his esposo around to bring comfort and whisper sweet nothings to her ear. The way Dolores winces when someone claps or shouts, hell, she even approached Julieta to ask for something that'd make her sensory overload fade. Camilo is still in the early stages of being a Madrigal, eventually, he will have a crisis too, despite their dismay about it. The way Bruno would shy away from basically anyone in fear of being called ‘Bad Luck Bruno’ like the town claims him to be. The way Isabela looks to her Abuela for approval, when, in fact, she doesn't need it. And finally, the way Luisa could never just say no. Behind closed doors, the miracle is both a blessing and a curse. It's tied to every Madrigal, unfortunately.
"I'm scared for her, Agustín. I'm afraid of what she might experience just because she's different."
"Lo sé, me too. All we can do is be there for her, amor." he ran his long fingers through her thick and curly hair as she stifled a yawn. This, however, did not go unnoticed by Agustín. "Sleep now, corazón, you need energy for tomorrow, we'll take it one day at a time."
Right, one day at a time.
~~~~
As Mirabel opened her eyes, she noticed one figure cuddled up next to her, Isabela. She knew based on the flower scent and the soft snoring alone, though as she looked to her left, she frowned once she noticed Luisa was gone.
Ay Lulu, Mirabel figured she was probably already in town overworking herself and as she slowly sat up, she climbed off the bed, careful not to accidentally hit Isabela and wake her up. She took her green glasses and gingerly put them on, watching as the world around her sharpened. Only then had she realized that next to the bed was a huge mattress where her papi slept alone, snoring softly against the pillows. Her mamá was nowhere to be seen, probably already in the kitchen cooking breakfast for the family. Her insides jumped with glee at the idea of getting to spend the morning with her mami, despite it practically being a personal ritual for the pair. Everyday since she could walk, Mirabel would wander into the kitchen and babble to Julieta nonstop until the food was fully prepared. Today was no different as she quietly exited the nursery and silently walked down the stairs, intending to surprise her madre as soon as she entered the kitchen.
However, instead of the soothing sounds of chopping and light sizzling, the voices of Abuela and her mamá were heard and none of them sounded happy.
Mirabel knew eavesdropping isn't good, in fact, she was about to turn around and give them some privacy when she heard her name in the conversation. Why are they talking about her? Is it because of her ceremony? But as people say, curiosity killed the cat, she couldn't help but listen in.
"Mija, have you perhaps talked to Mirabel about redoing the ceremony? She was originally supposed to get her gift, however, it failed." Abuela said, her voice laced with worry.
"What are you implying, mamá? That Mirabel isn't perfect without a gift? She'll do completely fine without one." Woah, she wasn't expecting her Mamá to have such a thick and aggressive tone in contrast to her usual voice, which was the exact opposite; soft and comforting. If her mama sounds upset, it must be bad.
"That's not what I meant, Julieta. I asked because the nursery is meant for Madrigals before their ceremony, not afterward. Shouldn't she have her own room instead of the nursery?" Abuela tried again, though Julieta was having none of it.
"Nothing's wrong with mi hija staying in the nursery, we can decorate it according to her desires" she said sharply as sounds of something being swiftly chopped made itself audible to her ears.
"Julieta, I know our magic is strong. It wouldn't just reject Mirabel so easily."
Julieta sighed, she seemed to want to bite back with something else, but held her tongue instead, almost as if she sensed another presence listening in on their conversation.
"Mamá..."
"We have to redo the ceremony, mija. I've asked Bruno for a vision. He still hasn't come up with something, so it's better to act now, just in case."
"No Mamá, I will not have my Mirabel do it again."
"What if it works this time?"
The healer said nothing. Yes, normally she'd let things slide when it comes to her madre, however today, she had hit a sore spot that made Julieta jump into action with zero hesitation. Mirabel wondered what could've been so sore about redoing the whole ceremony. Abuela was right, there's a chance it would work the second time! But since she'd eavesdropped, she could only wait for one of the adults to approach her with the idea to avoid being outed for listening in on someone else's conversation.
Then, it dawned on her: big girls don't sleep in nurseries after their ceremony, that's when they sleep in their new room.
But since she hadn't gotten her new room, where would she stay? Her mami and papi's room seemed the most appealing, although she couldn't bring herself to burden her parents. Besides, she's a big brave girl that can take on anything, as her mamá had said! Being brave meant keeping your burdens to yourself, and so, she did. She'd find a way around the issue eventually, for her familia.
What broke her out of her little daydream were heavy footsteps approaching the main area of the casa. She scurried away from the kitchen, ducking behind a giant vase that towers over her. She peeked around the corner just in time to see Abuela muttering a prayer of some sort while walking up the stairs, shutting the door behind her. Once she knew the coast was clear, she hurried to her mamá and greeted her with a warm smile.
"Buenos días, mamá!" she hugged her legs from behind, earning a soft chuckle from the older woman.
"Buenos días, mi amor. Did you rest well?" she watched as the five-year-old carefully climbed on the stool provided next to her.
"Sí, papi and Isa were snoring," Mirabel said with a fake pout, Julieta couldn't help the sudden urge to pinch her chubby cheeks. As expected, Mirabel grimaced and attempted to wrestle out of her mother's grasp to no avail.
"Don't let Isa catch you saying that."
"I'm not scared of a few cacti and a flower punch to the face, mami!"
At that, the healer momentarily paused before resuming her task of cutting vegetables and laughing lightly. "Ay Mira, do you think more gray hairs would do your mamá any good?"
Mirabel vigorously shook her head and gave an innocent smile as she watched Julieta continue with her work with a contemplative look on her face.
"Why don't you wake the rest of the familia up? Breakfast is almost ready."
With a quick sí mamá and a peck on the cheek, Mirabel rushed out of the room to fulfill her newfound task. She slowly trotted up the stairs and scanned her surroundings. Taking in the exchange between Abuela and her mami from earlier, it did make sense to her. If not the nursery, then where would she sleep tonight? She pondered her options: mami and papi's room is the most appealing idea, but she's a brave girl! And brave girls don't sleep in their parent's room. Isabela's room? No, it smelled of too many flower scents, it was almost nauseating and Mirabel wouldn't be able to handle it for long. Luisa's? Maybe. Based on the four times she had been in her hermana's room, she knows there's a huge pile of stuffed animals that resides in one of the corners. She could use that as a bed, although her room is known to be cold during the evening and slightly damp in the wee hours of the morning, and her mamá would fret over her if she catches something as small as a cold, so maybe not. Camilo's room? Too many mirrors, it's enough to give anybody a headache. She wonders how her primo manages to stay in his room without his head spinning. Dolores' room? Too soundproof. Besides, Dolores' room is her safe haven where no noise could be heard, so having a sleepover with her prima would be a nuisance. Tia Pepa and Tio Félix? If Mirabel has been observing them correctly, there hasn't been a day where her Tia Pepa hasn't drizzled at least once. The idea of wet clothing at some point in the night made Mirabel quickly throw the thought away. Anyways, she wouldn't want to be a witness to something possibly gross, especially when Tia and Tio seem to always be making those goo-goo eyes at each other. She grimaced and moved on to the other options. Tio Bruno's room is full of sand and stone, her little feet wouldn't be able to take walking up and down for meals and chores. Abuela's room is naturally off-limits, so scratch that.
Huh.
She frowned once she noticed the options weren't in her favor. If not inside their Casita, then...
She'd sleep outside! Where? Maybe in Señora Guzman's place. Wait no, if she went to anybody from town and asked to have a little sleepover with them, someone in the family would know about her top-secret plan and she couldn't risk her cover being blown, so she quickly erased the woman from the picture.
In the forest? Yes! She remembered the countless camping stories from her papá that the outside world of the Encanto was beautiful, full of plant and animal life, not to mention the number of butterflies and animal species that have yet to be discovered! The comfortable grass and giant banana leaves would do as bedding, she'd just have to bring a blanket and a lamp to scare off any predators. She could be resourceful with what she had!
Forest it is, then.
With her mind set on her big girl plans, she spent the rest of the day contemplating the best way to execute her plan flawlessly. From picking out the bag she'd use, to the amount of food she'd have to steal as midnight snacks (she internally apologized to her mamá for the sin she was about to commit), to how many stuffed toys she'd bring with her. It's just one night though, she'd come back in the morning with gifts for her familia!
Evening rolled around and greeted them with a cold breeze through the dimly-lit casa. Mirabel snuck out of dinner as soon as she devoured all her food and stayed in her room, the next step to her plan calls!
The whole day, she'd held her tongue, knowing if she did as much as mutter it, Dolores would hear her and tell everyone. Big brave girls don’t let their top secrets be known to others! In her mind, the plan was perfect. However, if anyone else from the Madrigal family found out – excluding Julieta, she'll probably go into a frenzy – they would shoot her worried glances and whisper to one another because, in the eyes of others, this plan is less than ideal. Worried glances and brave girls don't mix, in Mirabel's vocabulary.
~~~~
Mother's intuition, they say.
Julieta attempted to shake off the growing uncomfortable feeling in her stomach as she rinsed the dishes clean, her sleeves rolled up and several hair strands escaping her loose bun.
Something seems off about Mirabel.
The way Mirabel had acted today was incredibly suspicious; very unlike her. As she was preparing breakfast, the way her brows scrunched together in deep thought for a good 10 minutes caused her to frown slightly. Usually, her little mariposa would be talking about nothing in particular, each passing minute with no brakes. Every moment with her is never silent, especially for more than five minutes. Even the way she walked up the stairs seemed unusual. Her steps were slow and faint, very brow-raising for her normally bright and loud self, typically running up the stairs in fits of giggles – cackles even.
Once dinner had rolled around, instead of dishing up right after the prayer, she focused her attention on her youngest, who sat directly across the table with Camilo to her right, and Luisa to her left. As the rest of the family took their fair share of the meal (except Camilo, since 7 arepas had already been stacked on his plate), Mirabel's eyes locked with hers. Her eyes held fear for a split before being replaced with the brightest of smiles. Julieta returned a warm grin, taking a personal note to check in with her hija later in the evening. In all her years of living, she could tell the difference between a genuine smile and a masked smile. Hell, her eldest and middle child have been wearing it ever since their ceremonies. Mirabel's was uncharacteristically incomplete, lacking the glimmering effect in her eyes that's present each time she shows her baby teeth.
She did find it somewhat comforting to watch Mirabel gobble up all of her food, like a hungry wolf that hadn't eaten in days, ever so slightly muttering a gracias mama.
At least her appetite is favorable. It's only been a day since the failed gift ceremony, and that, without a doubt, drained Mirabel out. Maybe she's just imagining things, she'd have more time to observe other changes in the days to follow.
Healing the pain on the inside is her ideal wish, even if it sounds like such a pipe dream. If only her gift worked in her favor, allowing her to heal literally anything then she wouldn't have to worry much, wouldn't have a bunch of gray hairs at the unripe age of forty.
Actually, that's a lie, Agustín would probably force all her hair to go white before she even hits sixty, with all his accident-proneness.
She completed the dishes and wiped her hands on her apron, more than ready to head upstairs and give out smooches to her bebés. As if summoned, slender arms snaked around her waist, locking her in place as the scent of someone familiar entered her nostrils.
"Good evening, mi amor." he placed a gentle kiss on her cheek, nuzzling her hair and inhaling the unmistakable smell of herbs.
"Hello, to you too, mi vida." she chuckled and cupped the side of his face.
He hummed as they remained still for a while, sulking in the comfortable silence that befell them. Taking in the state of his wife; her hair is messier than usual, forehead lines are more defined, and her eyes look distant as if her head is far, far away. Somehow, an unspoken language was heard on his end.
"You're concerned," he concluded, "What about?"
She released a shaky sigh. "It's Mirabel. Something seems... off about her since this morning, I'm confused as to what it is." Agustín hummed, he seems to have the same thought, at least she knows it isn't all in her head. "If she had caught infection, it would've been healed since breakfast and lunch, but she still seems quiet. I can't wrap my finger around it, Tíno."
"You're right about that, Juli.""Have you checked on her?"
"Not yet, I thought I should get my wrist healed before doing so." With that, Julieta whipped her head around only to be greeted with her husband's beat-up sight. His hair was ruffled, his head bruised in some areas and just like his description, his wrist was broken and swelling red, she'd been so caught up in her thinking that she hadn't even noticed the limp hand dangling around her waist! "Mirabel wouldn't want to see her papá in such a state."
"Ay, Agustín." Exasperated, she snatched a hidden supply of arepas from her apron and shoved it into his mouth, patting him on the cheek like she always does. With a gracias corazón, she spoke again. "What happened to you?"
He gave her a sheepish grin. "I slammed face-first into a wall."
"How did that break your wrist?" she sputtered at the absurdity.
"Your guess is as good as mine."
She raised her hands in the air and turned, walking to the kitchen door. Agustín internally cursed at the loss of contact from his esposo. "I'm going to check on her."
She took a step, two–
"I'm coming with y – ACK!" he tripped over – literally nothing in particular, just the air – and landed with a hard thud on the concrete floor.
She turned and sighed, hands on her hips. It's not even 10 in the evening yet he's gotten into 6 accidents tonight. Walking over to his frame, she assisted him in standing upright, not even bothering to see his injuries over. She handed him another snack before taking him by the hand, anything to ensure this silly man doesn't get himself hurt again, and shutting the kitchen lights off.
Ay.
Unexpectedly, the tiles under their feet began to shuffle as Casita ushered them out of the kitchen faster. The casa seemed determined to complete its mission, so she didn't protest. Instead, she made sure her esposo wouldn't fall flat on his face again as they glided across the floor.
"Casita?"
~~~~
In the five years Mirabel has been living in Casita, wrestling with the house isn't one of the things she ever thought of doing over a packing session. At least her prima had already turned in for the night, so she didn't have to worry about being heard as she caused a ruckus in the nursery.
"Casita, I'm about to go on a trip tonight. Help me out!" she huffed when the house bounced her back on her bed, hiding the items she'd been secretly planning to take with her.
Her bedro–the nursery is currently in such a messy state, clothes strewn everywhere rooting from her–the dresser, tiny shoes scattered and missing pairs, her blankets hanging atop some of the tall furniture to keep her from leaving.
"Casita, this is for the best! I'll return tomorrow morning and the days to come will be filled with surprises for mi familia! That way, everyone will be happy with me again.
"The house responded by moving the windowsill disapprovingly.
Mirabel bit her lip as she thought of ways to convince the casa to set her free.
Camilo!
Even before his ceremony, he's got one of the best convincing skills out of everyone in the whole Encanto! She remembered the way he'd showcase his adorable puppy eyes at Tia Pepa, scrunching his brows and pouting, resulting in him getting his way, or when he'd use his words to manipulate her mamá into giving him another serving of his favorite food.
Tia Julieta, would you want your sobrino to go hungry? I'm a growing boy with growing needs!
To which her mamá would respond with a just one, don't tell your mamá then she'd ruffle his hair and send him off as if nothing had ever happened. Maybe, just maybe, it'd work with their live casa too.
"You wouldn't want me breaking the rules, would you? The nursery is for babies, and I'm no baby! I'm a big girl who can handle herself, especially after my gift ceremony.
"Another low shuffle, but this time, of the floorboards.
"Abuela said I can't sleep here anymore. Shouldn't we follow her orders?" She tried her best to impersonate Camilo's cutesy eyes at the house, internally crossing her fingers that it'd be enough to convince the house.A beat of silence.
Before she knew it, her bags were being pushed out from the walls and set neatly at her feet with everything she had packed inside. She smiled wide and kissed the wall. "Gracias Casita!"
It actually worked.
She made a mental note to use this method whenever she wanted to play with Isabela or Luisa, or if she wanted her papá to continue with another song on the piano, if she wanted her Tia Pepa to make another rainbow or if–She shook the distracting thoughts off. Focus is what she needs! Focus!
The house, although incredibly reluctant, responded with another shift of the wooden floor as Mirabel carried on with her packing. She wouldn't need much, just the necessities for one night. Blankets, socks, a small pillow, extra clothes, and of course, her butterfly stuffed animal. All she needed now were healing snacks. Of course, finding them wouldn't be a problem. The only issue is that her mamá is known for staying in the kitchen to clean up and prepare for the next day, even late in the evening. Dodging her will be a challenge, knowing her mami would freak out if she ever got caught and found something suspicious in her mannerisms.
Her eyes gleamed when a small hatch in the wall opened, revealing a little box neatly packed with arepas and jugged milk. "Gracias!" she squealed, before shoving said box into her bag.
Now, all she had to do was ensure nobody was outside, and slip outside the front doors. Easy.
Is this considered running away? Well, maybe. But it’s different because she’s coming back! Besides, she's doing it for a good reason! Abuela had a point; Madrigal children aren't supposed to stay in the nursery after their ceremony. Sadly, getting a darn gift was the only way to make her Abuela proud, and yet it had failed, she had failed in making her familia proud. Yes, she's a little terrified of leaving at night, especially when her mamá repeated to her time and time again not to, since that's when mosquitoes are most active and she might get bitten by a bug carrying some sort of disease. But this little camping trip could be another way to make them happy after the public humiliation they had faced during her ceremony, to fulfill her promise to her mami of being a strong and brave girl! She inhaled deeply.
For la familia Madrigal.
With that, she ever so gently creaked the door open and peaked left, then right.
Clear.
No sounds were heard, except the loud echoing of crickets around the house. Shutting the door behind her, she camouflaged herself with the teal and lavender flowers Isabela had grown a while back, looking down into the courtyard for any figure to avoid. It was dark, only being lit by a handful of candles in the corner along with the welcoming moonlight. It was on moments like these when she'd thank her mami for giving birth to her early because that resulted in her small size. If not through vision, the only way to spot Mirabel is through sound, easy enough. Casita moved some tiles as if to tell her to be careful.
"I'll be okay, Casita. I'm a big girl now," she whispered as she quietly slipped down the stairs, mindful as to not make a peep despite the coast being clear. She's super close, she can't mess up now! Not after her huge mistake the previous night.
Finally, finally, she reached the front door. Her ears ringing with bells, she thought about what the next morning would bring. This is it, when she comes back the next morning, her family will be here to greet her and cheer for her bravery. Tomorrow, she'd be given a tight hug from everyone with proud faces instead of concerned and anxious ones. She can already feel the sweet taste of victory coursing through her veins, giving her a giant sense of control. She wasn't able to control herself during her ceremony, but now, with this big decision, she's able to! With her slowly widening smile, she reached for the golden doorknob and felt a rush of déjà vu, like when she touched her doorknob. The single action that could've given her a gift, if done right.
"What do you think you're doing, young lady?"
~~~~
Gripping her now healed husband's hand with great determination to prevent him from tripping, they exited the kitchen as the tiles underneath suddenly came to a halt at the side of the courtyard.
It's either her eyes were playing tricks on her or she's just incredibly exhausted, either way, she's pretty certain that a ball of curly brown hair appeared in her peripheral vision to her left for a short moment.
She craned her head in the direction of where she thought the weird encounter was and froze, squeezing – maybe even breaking – his hand as she clutched him tight. Agustín thankfully didn't react and seemed to sense her instant rigidness.
"Amor?" he softly called out to her, his facial features writing concerned and matching her vibe as he turned to what she had her gaze on.
Then, he saw it.
Their five-year-old hija carrying a bag half her size and reaching for the door. On any day, this wouldn't seem irregular, mainly because their little Mirabel loved playing outside and chasing mariposas with some snacks from Julieta. The sight would never stop melting their hearts. Still, it doesn't change the fact that everyone in the family has a curfew. Nobody is allowed to leave their casa after dinner, to avoid wild animals and diseases being transmitted. But seeing Mirabel slowly turn the knob – with no lamp to scare off possible predators – snapped them out of their little awe-struck moment, Julieta was the first one to recover.
Putting her hands on her hips, she channeled her rarely-used inner strict voice and spoke. "What do you think you're doing, young lady?"
Mirabel jumped, turning in their direction in an instant and accidentally dropping her bag. The piece of fabric hit the tiles with a soft thud as the well-packed food escaped the folds, exposing the other items within her sack. Their eyes traveled over Mirabel, then to the scattered things on the floor, then back at her. Piecing together what could be their worst nightmare.
Mirabel? Running away?
Agustín almost choked up at the mere thought and without even looking over, he could tell Julieta was willing herself not to cry.
They understood now that she had been trying to get away, to somehow correct the non-existent mistakes she made during her ceremony, the regret creeping in like snakes slowly slithering behind their prey. It further confirmed their suspicions when a box with Julieta's specially baked food slipped out, revealing the additional goods stuffed inside the sack Mirabel was carrying. The items that she’d bring to her dangerous voyage outside and at night.
As they stood frozen in silence, Julieta was the first to break it, transitioning from a strict mami to a comforting mami. She ran over to Mirabel and enveloped her in a tight embrace as Agustín joined them in a millisecond. "Ay, mi vida, you don't have to leave just because you're different."
That seemed to hit a sensitive spot, as Mirabel collapsed into their warm arms, her sobs muffled by Julieta's thick apron. "I'm s-sorry m-mamá, papá. I thought I w-was making you p-proud." she heaved and shook, clutching onto both of their clothes.
"Mira, we're already proud of you. You have nothing to prove." Julieta held her in a death grip, hoping she wouldn’t accidentally crush her mariposa.
"But Abuela said that I shouldn't sleep in the nursery anymore because I'm a big girl and I already had my ceremony and that I should sleep somewhere else and you said I was brave so I thought I could sleep outside to be your big brave girl!" she practically rapped and sobbed, dropping the forgotten bag on the floor.
Ah, so she had heard.
"Mi amor, listen to me." Julieta pulled back and stared straight into Mirabel's puffy red eyes as Agustín remained unmoving, still clutching her despite the shift in motion. "Being brave – which you already are –" she emphasized her point by lightly tapping her nose, earning the smallest of smiles. "doesn't mean running away and endangering yourself. We don't do those two things, okay?" a nod. "Not everything your Abuela says is right, she's human too, she has moments where she's wrong. Venturing into the wilderness to search for your own room isn't a good idea, corazón. Since you didn't receive your own room, the nursery is all yours. Do you understand?"
Mirabel looked up at her from under her eyelashes as her lower lip wobbled again, water gathering at her eyes once more. "Lo s-siento." she dove back into both her parent's loving embrace and let all the emotions pour out, all the stress, all the pent-up emotions in just one day.
She's got a long road ahead.
"Está bien, mi bebé. Don't cry."
~~~~
As they tucked in for the night, Julieta glanced over to her right, where Mirabel had been asleep on the nursery bed for a good duration, snoring ever so slightly. Ay, the snoring from all her babies is definitely something they took after her esposo, without a doubt. But she wouldn’t change that for the world; she adores all of them equally. She thought about today's events and smiled once her hijas question echoed in her head again.
Can you sleep with me again, mamá y papá?
To which they agreed without a second thought. Another sleepover with one of their hijas? They wouldn't miss it for anything.
"What's your mamá going to think once she finds out you gave Miraboo full ownership of the nursery?"
"What is she going to do? Kick Mirabel out? She isn't that heartless, mi vida."
He let out a laugh. "You did it, Juli. You didn't even need my help when talking to our mariposa back there." Agustín held her hand from under the sheets, meeting her eyes with a soft smile before gently meeting her lips.
She smirked. "It was mother's intuition."
"Hey! What about father's intuition? I was the one that forced you to leave the kitchen just in time to catch Mirabel."
"Did you trip on purpose just to guide me out of the kitchen?" she looked appalled, her brows raised.
He gave a light-hearted chuckle. "Well, yes. It's what I've been doing since we got married. Besides, Casita indirectly helped me out too!"
"You're banned from setting foot in my kitchen, including my bedroom.”
Which is ironic. Julieta's room is basically a personal kitchen with extra comfortable furniture.
One, two, three-
"Amor, your room doesn't count!"
Ay Agustín.
“I don’t think there would be a single boring day if I were to live here,” you exclaimed with a light giggle, one of Antonio’s birds nuzzling its beak against your head before flying away (presumably back into Antonio’s room). “Well, that’s the amazing Madrigals for ya,” Mirabel shrugged with a laugh of agreement, clasping her hands behind her back as you both wandered down the halls filled with glowing, golden doors.
“However, sometimes it isn’t as fun considering I have to deal with Tia Pepa’s irregular moods or the amount of flowers blooming from Senorita Perfecta Isabela’s gift,” she added, shuddering to emphasize her words.
Finally entering her room, you sat down on her bed, bouncing on the mattress with an enthusiastic smile. “I like your room the most though, Antonio’s may look like something out of heaven itself but yours seems so minimalistic and artistic,” you felt a small tap under your feet, looking down to see the tiles moving as if they were agreeing with you. “Thanks, it was Antonio’s room too, you know. Right before he got his gift, I mean,” she chuckled, placing her hands on her hips as she examined her own room.
“This is just proof that you have magnificent taste in room decor,” you grinned, giving her an enthusiastic jazz of both of your hands. “I guess so,” she shrugged with a giddy smile stretched across her face, clearly thrilled to have a friend around her age to talk to for once. She was just about to say something when a distant call of her name pierced both of your ears.
"That's Isabela," she shook her head with a small sigh, visibly deflating as her older sister let out another call of her name from God knows where. "Wait here, I'll be quick," she gave you a small smile, waving slightly before frowning abruptly and exiting the room, jogging down the halls while responding with an equally loud "coming!"
Chuckling, you scoot around the bed to get into a more comfortable position. Looking back up to the opened doorway, you spotted Dolores, Mirabel's oldest cousin, standing silently with a plate filled with food. "Dolores, it's good to see you again!" You exclaimed, waving enthusiastically at the woman before getting up to your feet to walk towards her.
"How have you been? Hearing any gossip lately?" ou been, one of mi favorite Madrigals? Heard any good gossip lately with those sharp ears of yours?” you grinned, nudging her arm with your elbow. The older girl’s eyes darted from her plate of food before giving you a nervous smile, shrugging without uttering a word. “Hmm?” you hummed, tilting your head to the side in slight confusion. Usually Dolores wouldn’t miss an opportunity to spill any juicy gossip around town to you, after all, you two have been pretty good friends ever since Mirabel introduced you to the whole family.
“Oh Dios, Camilo! Stop pretending to be me to talk to Y/n. Wait, did you take extra food from the table too? I’m telling Abuela!” Dolores exclaimed from her own room, her head poking out of the doorway with brows furrowed in frustration before letting out a small ‘humph’ afterwards. You watched the older girl snuck her head back in her own room, the sound of her wooden door being closed shut could be heard from a mile away as you slowly turned to the person you were talking to.
“Turning into your sister just to talk to me again, Camilo?” you shook your head with a laugh of disbelief, putting your hands on your hips as you turned to the boy who was still shaped as his older sister. Camilo then proceeded to shapeshift back to his usual self with a slightly bashful, yet cheeky expression, shrugging softly at you as he shoved an arepa into his mouth to keep himself from answering you. He let out incomprehensible answers through the arepa in between his lips, hands moving around to emphasize on whatever he was trying to say.
“Tio Felix would not approve of you for being such a scaredy cat, primo Camilo,” Mirabel’s voice appeared right behind the boy, who made even louder incoherent noises through a mouthful of food. The freckled, brown haired boy paused when he realised you were still watching him argue back against his cousin with a look of silent adoration, slightly catching him off guard. “You know, you could just talk to me like a normal person,” you raised your eyebrow at the boy, a loopy smile hanging off of your lips.
Gulping down the remnants of his food, the boy simply gave you a smile that mirrored your own, however, it had some glint of soft bashfulness to it that was simply adorable. Camilo then let out a small grunt when the door moved to make contact against his back, indicating that the casita was silently hyping him up so that he could finally gather the courage to just straight up make a conversation with you without any nervous skedaddling.
He scrunched his face together cutely as he glared at the door, receiving an amused tap from the tiles of the floor in response. Looking back at you, he raised a hand up to scratch the back of his neck with an awkward laugh. “Well, if I did, that wouldn’t be very fun now would it?” he asked with a wiggle of his own eyebrows as his hand grabbed an arepa from his plate, grabbing your wrist with his pinky and ring finger to raise your hand up towards him before placing the treat on your opened palm.
“That’s the only talking I’m going to do today, adios,” he grinned, shapeshifting into an exact copy of you as he gave you a finger gun salute before transforming back to himself and running away without another word in case their Abuela was around to see him with a second serving of food on his plate. Mirabel shook her head in second hand embarrassment, walking up to stand beside you as you watched the boy disappear right around the corner with the same loopy smile hanging off of your lips.
“I still don’t understand what you see in that boy, he’s too cowardly to even talk to you, let alone confess,” she sighed, half lidded eyes bored through the lens of her glasses as she gave you a pointed look. Glancing down at the arepa he had given you a few minutes prior, you simply shrugged with a small chuckle. “At least he’s somewhat trying, I find this equally as amusing as you do, amiga,” you exclaimed with a giddy smile, your shoulders raising as you took a bite from the arepa.
Ah yes, Camilo Madrigal. The older brother of the youngest Madrigal, one who bears the gift of being able to shapeshift into anyone you know. One who often pulled harmless pranks on you but never made the effort to make a decent conversation with you due to his slight bashfulness, his liking towards you was never subtle in the slightest considering he would silently shapeshift into whatever Madrigal you were most comfortable with (usually Dolores or Mirabel) just to give you a small bit of whatever he had stolen from the pantry. You would usually ask a couple hours later if they actually gave you the snack, only to receive ‘no’s for an answer.
A sweet gesture, nonetheless.
“Wished he could just stop posing as other people to try to talk to me though, would be nice to talk to Camilo face to face and admire him straight away,” you shrugged, chewing idly as Mirabel gave you a perplexed, concerned expression. “What? It would be nice to receive food from the boy you like without him shaping into your friend or his older sister to do so, you kno-”
“Camilo! Stop being a coward and talk to your girlfriend face to face like a man,” Isabela’s loud, high pitched voice could be heard from the second floor. Attracting both of your attention as you looked down from the railing of the stairs to see the pastel dressed girl with a snarky grin on her face, arms crossed as loud choking noises could be heard from the distance.
You giggled at the image of Camilo in the middle of eating his food when Isabela suddenly said that, imagining how he would’ve shapeshifted into you out of reflex before punching his own chest to get himself to stop choking.
“Shut up, Isabela, she’s literally upstairs!”
“Exactly my point!”
Everything seemed to be going normal during dinner, you were smiling and laughing with the Madrigals. That was until you noticed Camilo’s fingers tapping and his eyes seemed to drift towards you before looking back at his food. Your attention was pulled away from him when Mirabel had asked you about your day. You decided not to worry about Camilo until after dinner.
You thanked everyone for the dinner before following Camilo to his room. “Hey, is something wrong, Camilo?” You asked as you two were heading towards his room. Camilo didn’t answer, instead he opened his door and urged you inside. When you two were inside you sat down on his bed, watching as Camilo walked over to you. You were about to ask if he was okay again but Camilo’s lips were on yours before you could say anything. Your eyes widened slightly but gladly returned the kiss. He climbed up on your lap and gently pushed you down onto the bed. “I missed this so much, mi amor,” he said, his lips gracing over yours. His hips began to roll into yours, making you let out a small groan. You couldn’t really say you didn’t miss this, with all of the work he’s had to do for everyone you two never really got to do this very often. Your hand gripped on his poncho(?) and he quickly removed it following with his shirt. He also removed yours and began placing kisses along your chest making you squirm. “F-Fuck..Camilo, you’re so good..” Your head leaned back onto the pillow as you covered your face with your arm. Camilo’s hand started to wonder down to your pants where he could see your growing, hard-
“Camilo, tia Pepa needs your help in the ki- WOAH-“
Your soul nearly left your body when you heard Mirabel’s voice followed by the door opening. Camilo screamed and jumped up off of you and frantically put his shirt back on. Mirabel was about to say something but decided to leave quietly. Camilo and you stared at each other trying to think of how you’re supposed to explain this. “Erm, you get dressed, I’ll go talk to them,” he let out an awkward laugh and quickly left the room.
You left Camilo’s room to go look for him, and you could see him frantically try to explain what was happening to Mirabel and Dolores, who was currently contemplating her existence who had already told Pepa about what she heard. You quickly rushed down to try and help explain but before you could Pepa rushed towards Camilo and gave him a hug. “My Camilo’s finally in love! I always knew you two were really close but I never expected..that close! Now you two were being safe right because you should always use prote-“ Camilo and you quickly talked over Pepa to try and make her stop talking. Well, this isn’t exactly how you two wanted to tell the family about you two but at least they seem to accept you both :}
Pls it sucks srry 😭
The big day has finally come. Dolores and Mariano’s got married in the Encanto’s church, among their family and friends. When the groom was allowed to kiss the bride, everyone went crazy. Cheering, whistling and laughing could be heard from everyone. Even Camilo and Bruno forgot about the prophecy for a minute to enjoy the beautiful union of the youngs. Poor Dolores had to cover her ears, because of all this sound.
Soon, everyone was led to Casita, where the second part of the wedding would take place. There were tables of food, musicians were already playing lively music and the party began. Only when Camilo sat down near his sister and her husband, did he recall the prophecy of his uncle. Camilo’s heart rate picked up, as he tugged on the collar of his shirt, suddenly feeling very hot.
❝ So, now we are waiting for the tragedy to happen ? ❞ Asked Bruno, while sliding in the free sit besides Camilo. The said boy jumped, straddled and gave his uncle a short glare, before sighing, his face relaxing and shoulders sagging.
❝ I mean yeah…Your prophecies are always coming true, so I’m pretty sure all we can do is to wait. ❞
❝ …at least Pepa has a good mood. ❞
Camilo nodded, agreeing with his uncle. Since the incident yesterday, she and Dolores were two bundles of nerves. At some point Pepa had to lock herself in her room, because she was causing a literal storm inside Casita. And Camilo was feeling awful, because he had lied to his mother and it was his fault that her mood went bad. The same was with Dolores.
❝ It’s time for the bride to throw the bouquet! Ladies gather up! ❞ Both men tensed up after hearing the announcement and looked before them, to see young girls gathering in front of standing Dolores. You just happened to be one of them, waiting eagerly to catch the bouquet. Camilo smiled softly, already knowing that you’ll catch it.
❝ Are you ready? ❞ Asked exited Dolores, glancing at the group of girls gathered behind her.
❝ Yes! ❞ The girls screamed, getting ready to try to catch it. Dolores winced but turned around nevertheless, and took a deep breath.
❝ Then here I go! ❞
And just like that, the bouquet of flowers flew in the air, as all of the girls raised their hands to catch it. And just like in the prophecy…the bouquet landed in your arms. You squealed in happiness and started jumping excitedly. At that moment, you looked so beautiful with a big smile on your face and the evening sun shining from behind you, creating a halo of light. Your eyes were shining like the stars and he could stare at them for hours.
❝ Scratch that! ❞ Camilo thought, and abruptly got up from his seat. He ran up to you and lifted you by your waist, twirling you around. You gasped and then laughed loudly, forgetting that everyone was staring at you. All that mattered was you and him.
When Camilo put you down, he hugged you tightly and kissed your cheek lovingly. You smiled up at him shyly, blushing softly. And then, you heard soft gasp and both of you turned to look at Dolores. She was staring at you two, with her wide eyes before a smile slowly appeared on her face.
❝ Camilo and (name) are dating! ❞ She suddenly yelled, as everyone around began to cheer for you two. Pepa had a rainbow above her head, Isabela, Mirabel and Louisa run up to you and hugged you both, Antonio and Felix high fived, Julietta and Augustin smiled at each other and Alma nodded her head in approval.
And Bruno? Bruno was just chilling there, with his rat friend resting on his shoulder, happy that he didn’t have to disappear for another year.
| 𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘 ✧・゚: — during a fiesta, camilo let’s the green-eye monster in him come out to play despite his better judgement.
SFW ✧・゚—
• camilo is a very jealous person. is it because of his identity issues or low self-worth in himself as he is? who knows!
• he often hates feeling jealous since he hates such a gross feeling. truth be told he doesn’t even realize his own jealousy until after the matter.
• you can never tell when he’s jealous since he constantly keeps his nice jokester demeanor even when he is jealous.
• will never pin the jealousy on you. never.
• will often insult, make fun of, embarrass, or downright expose whoever is making him jealous and protective over you but will disguise it as teasing jokes.
• uses his charm and glittering reputation to get away with such.
• often rubs it in the face of whoever is causing the jealousy when you eventually and blindly pick him (not even realizing there was something to even pick).
• and the most toxic of all—camilo is not above shapeshifting into others to mess up their relationship with you.
• you’d never believe camilo could be capable of doing something like that so it always works out for camilo in the end.
Camilo’s thick brows thread together, his lips twitching while formed into a firm frown. Soft honey brown eyes, usually wide and light, are narrowed, like a serpent waiting to strike its prey. Shifting on the seat, he clutches the glass of juice tightly in his grip. All around the atmosphere is lively, music playing in a rhythmic and fun manner as everyone dances along and enjoys the party atmosphere for the triplets' fifty-first birthday. Usually Camilo would be enjoying the fun with you, dancing and being his usual bright party entertainer self but that’s not the case right now.
No, right now Camilo is more or less trying to contain himself and keep his composure while watching you talk to the farmer's son. Oscar. Inhaling deeply, his leg bounces beneath the table. A cool breeze sweeps over his hot freckle dusted face, cooling his skin but not his blood. Why are you taking so long to talk to him? Sure you both more or less technically work alongside one another and you said it was a work chat—but still.
Jealousy spills into Camilo’s stomach like heavy wet concrete, slowly solidifying and tensing up his insides. When you laugh softly and look down to the floor with your glass of juice in hand, Camilo slams down his drink and stands up with a scoff. Only for a soft hand to push him back down. Looking to his left with wide and incredulous eyes, he looks to a pair of golden hazel ones. Dolores sighs out softly.
“I could hear your heart from the kitchen.” Dolores says in her usual soft-spoken manner, Camilo having to strain a bit to hear his hermana through the dance music. Blinking back at the older of the two, he huffs out as Dolores takes the seat in front of him with her glass of wine in hand. “Cami, why can’t you tell her you like her already? At least then your jealousy can be rational.”
Camilo frowns softer, eyes flickering to where you nod along to whatever the fair-skinned man is saying. Turning back to Dolores staring at him with a “you know I’m right” expression, he rolls his eyes gently. “She came here with me. Not that boring cabrón. Can’t he talk to her about work tomorrow?” He rhetorically questions, with a small pout on his lips.
Pushing her ear out a bit, Dolores sips on her wine. “They are just talking about the next delivery of wheat to the bakery, Camilo.” The gifted woman says while placing down her glass of wine with a pointed expression. His pout pushes out more, arms firmly crossing over his chest and eyes turning away from his reasonable older sister. With a light chuckle, Dolores stands up and gently pats his shoulder. “Just don’t be a jackass, Camilo. If you need me to eavesdrop again just ask.”
He’s unable to not give Dolores a soft smile, relaxing a bit as she walks away with a thumbs up and knowing wink. Sighing out, Camilo brushes back his brunette curls and shakes his head with a soft snort. She’s right! Being jealous is gross and it’s irrational. You don’t belong to anyone and you surely don’t belong to him. Soft honey eyes look your way and he smiles lightly. All you’re doing is talking—
Why is that idiots hand on your shoulder?
In what feels like one huff of frustration and anger, Camilo throws an arm around your shoulder. “Y/n!” He exclaims with a big smile, looking into your eyes before wrinkling his bulbous nose at you playfully. “I was practically about to have my fifty-first birthday over there.” The soft smile that melts across your lips makes his heart spread out with warmth. And the scowl from Oscar just beside him makes his entire body tingle with satisfaction.
“Ah I’m sorry, Camilo.” You say so sincerely and sweetly with apologetic eyes. “I got caught up I guess.”
He hugs you by your shoulder with a big smile. “Don’t worry about it, tonta.” Elbowing him gently with a playful glare at the nickname, he chuckles while dropping his arm. Turning to Oscar with a tilting of his head, Camilo squints his eyes a bit with his usual easy-going smile on his lips. Although it’s fake, not reaching his honey eyes. Pointing to his own cheeks before gesturing towards Oscar, he hums out. “Are you feeling okay, Oscar? You look really red.” Camilo feigns innocence in the question, holding mocking undertones.
Oscar blinks back softly, his already red cheeks growing redder. “Wh—I’m fine, Camilo.” The taller boy responds in a slightly defensive manner, embarrassment flushing his cheeks. “It’s a little warm out here…” He mutters out, rubbing the nape of his neck while glaring discreetly at the shorter of the two.
The shapeshifter tingles with satisfaction before he breathes out softly and looks to you, smiling big. “So what were you two talking about?” He questions, standing close to you.
Your brows raise in realization. “Oh! Oscar you were going to ask something right?” Camilo’s smile falters as you smile at Oscar kindly, warmly like you smile at everyone. His honey eyes flicker to Oscar who grins softly and nods, his own oceanic eyes pulling from Camilo to look at you. “Was it about the milk delivery? Because my papa said it’s okay if it’s a little late we still have a lot.” You obliviously reassure with a soft chuckle and dismissive wave.
Camilo pulls you back by your blouse when someone suddenly bumps into Oscar from behind, his drink falling from his hand and onto the floor. With wide, honey eyes Camilo looks up to see Dolores gasping softly. “Oh goodness, I’m so sorry!” Dolores begins to apologize profusely while turning the bulky teen towards her. Catching a side-eye from Dolores, Camilo takes a mental note to thank her later as he tugs you away by your shoulders.
Gasping out softly, your eyes flicker back to Oscar trying to reassure an “apologetic” Dolores. Frowning with worry and placing a hand over your heart, your eyes flicker to a joyous Camilo. His honey eyes gaze into yours and your open mouth shuts slowly. Smiling at him, you seem to wipe away whatever you were going to say and you bump his hip with yours. Butterflies sprout and bloom in his stomach. “I’m surprised I haven’t seen you dance yet.”
A laugh more musical than anything that’s ever been created or will ever be created leaves your lips when Camilo twirls you into his arms and begins to move rhythmically to the music. “You know I save the first for you!”
“We are definitely failing this quiz,” You throw an eraser at Camilo, “Don’t say that! We are going to - at least - pass this quiz. We won’t get anything done if all we do is complain.” You turn to your notebook, which was filled with nonsense conversations you and Camilo have during class.
“Ay Dios mío, we are going to fail.”
Camilo looks over your shoulder and frowns. “Is that my handwriting?” You nod. “Damn.” He flips through his notebook as well. “I’ve got... a few notes. But I don’t know which topics.” You ask for his notebook and flip through both of your notes, trying to piece the little tidbits of information scattered. “Do you think Mirabel has notes?” Camilo shrugs. “Probably a few. I’ll ask her tomorrow.”
“What do you mean tomorrow? We’re taking the quiz tomorrow, hello? Te volviste estúpido?” (Did you become stupid?) Camilo holds your hand. “Don’t worry, I know you’ll do well.” He looks around for a pen and some paper.
We could just cheat in the exam, amor ;)
“¡¿Has perdido la cabeza?!” (Have you lost your mind?!) Of course, you considered that as well, but only as a last resort. The teacher of the subject you and Camilo are studying for is a particularly strict person; the “no nonsense” kind. The class was obedient under their presence. “Crees demasiado bajo de mí, mi amor.,” (You think too low of me, my love.) Camilo chuckles, “I suggested it as a joke. Don’t worry.” He grabs a book from under his table. “I borrowed it from Mirabel.”
Camilo quickly shapeshifts into Mirabel and mimics her voice, “Remember, Cami. Don’t damage the book,” ‘Mirabel’ scoffs, “Stop laughing! I’m serious!”
A thud on the door. “I can hear you! I hope you fail tomorrow’s quiz!” Mirabel enters the room with a smile, “Not you, though, Y/N. Goodluck! I’m sure you’ll get a great score.” She walks towards you two and flips through the pages of her book. “I’ve highlighted what parts are going to appear on the quiz. If you need any help, Y/N,” Mirabel glares at Camilo, “I’ll be in the kitchen!”
“How are you going to study though?” Mirabel flaunts her bag, “I’ve got my notes here! I’ll be fine! Plus, I studied yesterday so I think I’m good. Worry about your boyfriend.” You look at Camilo, then Mirabel. “We’ll be fine! Thanks, Mirabel!”
The door closes and Camilo turns to you. “We could skip classes tomorrow. I do it all the time.”
“Camilo. You are on to something. We’ll study first.” You rewrite some of Mirabel’s notes onto a piece of paper.
“I could go ask people from other classes how the test was, and if a lot of them say it’s hard then we could just say we’re sick-”
Without looking up from the book, you reply, “The teacher knows you’re a Madrigal, he’ll just tell you to eat one of your Tia’s arepas that’s in the room. Isn’t Dolores hearing this?” You turn to Camilo and hand him the book. “We should quiz each other after reading.” Camilo yarns. “Boring!”
“For every correct answer, you get a kiss..?.”
Camilo shifts on the spot: you, then the teacher, then himself once again.
“Stop disturbing me! I need to study!”
“I wasn’t saying anything…” You laugh before going back to your notes.
— — — — —
“Alright… I think I’m done reading, amor!” You squint your eyes at him, “That was quick. I guess I’ll have to test you now.” Camilo stretches his arms. “This’ll be easy. It’s like hiding Mirabel’s glasses.”
“You what?”
Camilo winks at you. “Nothing! Ask away!”
You shrug and look through your notes. With that, you could ask Camilo around twenty questions. “Are you ready?” Camilo grins. “Bring it on.”
You ask Camilo the first question, he gets it correct.
“Where’s my kiss?”
“You’re dead to me.” You say as you plant a kiss on the back of his hand. “Next questio-”
“I want to ask you a question!” You aren’t sure where the sudden energy came from, but you reply. “Alright.”
“Okay, I have two questions: one, why not on the lips?” You try to answer, but are shushed by Camilo, the second question he gives you is a math equation.
“You may answer.”
You purse your lips. “Well, I wanted to save the kiss on the lips for the hardest question? And… we aren’t even studying math?”
Camilo pulls you to his side and the two of you are laying down on the bed. “Correct! Now we must take a well-deserved break!”
“But I haven’t even quizzed you? Plus, you looked quite excited for the ‘one correct answer, one kiss’ thing.” Camilo shrugs. “I am. But I feel like you deserve a break. Just close your eyes.” He kisses your cheek. You sigh at him, “Fine. You better remind me that we’re quizzing each other when we wake up.”
Camilo smiles without replying.
“I’m serious! I don’t want to fail this!”
Camilo chuckles at you before giving you a short kiss on your lips. “I’ll remember that, mi amor. For now, sleep to your heart’s delight.” You merely hum in response, wrapping your arms around Camilo. “Goodnight.”
“Y/N, it’s 4PM.”
“Goodnight.”
We Should Just Kiss
dolores madrigal x gn reader you try to tell dolores what you feel but there's a certain distraction
this is my first work,, pls be nice:]
For the past few weeks, you've been working hard to drop hints to your crush that you like them. From gifts like chocolates and flowers, to poetry and compliments, even straight-up flirting and dates. Could you even call them hints? You were practically spelling it out
It was plain to see you liked her, everyone knew, everyone except her.
You've liked Dolores since you were kids. It was the way she squeaked and laughed, the way she sang and just existed, you fell in love with everything about her.
Maybe you sucked at this whole giving hints thing, or maybe Dolores was just dense. Maybe she was doing this on purpose, you genuinely had no idea, but that isn't the point.
The point is you gotta make a solid move already.
You nodded to yourself, determined to finally tell the love of your life how you feel.
I can do this, right?
---
Wrong, I can't do this
You're walking by the stream, something you do with Dolores often, giving her a chance to take a break from all her responsibilities in town.
It was your special spot, a haven. A place where you and Dolores could be away from everyone, everything, every sound. Just the two of you
I can't do this I really can't
You glance at her, playing by the water skipping on some stones. The light from the sun hugs her figure perfectly. Unconsciously, a smile forms on your face, one you've smiled a million times before. The smile just for her.
Just like that, you find yourself falling for her all over again. Her eyes, her nose, her lips
Her lips. They look so pretty-
You shake your head to snap out of it. As though her beauty was a trance, though it was one you wouldn't mind falling in forever.
A deep breath
I can do this
A sigh
I'm gonna do this
"So uh- Dolores", you whisper. A part of you hopes she didn't hear anything, but you're sure she heard you, super hearing and all that.
"Hm?", she looks up at you and your eyes meet
How does one sound so cute with just a hum?
Her eyes are round, clear with expectation, patiently waiting for you to continue. Her lips are in a pout you're familiar with.
Her lips..
"I uh-", you croak out. What was I gonna say again?
"We should uh", a breath. Why did her lips have to be so pretty? So plump and soft, they looked so cute.
I wonder what it tast-
"We should just kiss"
w h a t ?
"What-", Dolores tried to talk but you cut her off
"I mean uh-", your breath caught in your throat
You messed up. This wasn't supposed to happen. The one moment you finally decide to be straightforward with your feelings and you mess it up. Now she's gonna think you're weird and she'll never want to see you again.
Way to go me! yey!
"I'm sorry I-", you look up to meet a pair of eyes looking straight at you.
When did she get here?
Somehow, while you were panicking over your oh-so-smooth and sudden confession, Dolores had walked right in front of you.
Now she was close.
Really close, too close?
Your noses were almost touching, you could feel and hear each other's breath, even without the super hearing.
Too close
A step back, "I'm really sorr-"
You're cut off by something soft on yours. It takes a second before you realize
IS SHE KISSING ME??
When you finally realize you're supposed to kiss back, Dolores smiles and deepens the kiss. It's soft and better than everything you dreamed about. Her arms wrap around your neck, softly playing with your hair while your hands rest on her waist, gently caressing.
It's absolutely perfect.
Dolores is the first to pull apart, and she immediately laughs seeing your face.
You blink rapidly, mouth hanging open, trying to process what just happened
DID WE JUST KISS??
Dolores waits for you patiently, clearly amused
"I- uh- eh?", smooth
Again, Dolores laughs at you, now you can't help but smile in return.
"You're right mi amor", she says catching her breath, "we should just kiss"
She showers your, now red face, in kisses. She pecks your forehead, your cheeks, your nose, and finally your lips. Once, twice, thrice, then another deep kiss.
Of course, you're quick to kiss back with a smile.
---
"Finally", u sigh, contented
By now the sun is about to set, as you spent the day busy in a liplock with the girl of your dreams. You're seated on the grass, resting on the trunk of a huge tree. The forest is silent, nothing but the distant songs of birds and the stream quietly running.
Dolores is seated between your legs. She rests her head on your chest, listening to your breaths and heartbeats sync
"Finally", she echoes with a smile
---
"You know it's about time", Dolores teases you
"You knew???", you whisper with a raised tone and wide eyes, still careful not to hurt Dolores's ears
Dolores laughs at you.
She seems to do that a lot, not that you mind. Her laugh was like your favorite song, a sound you'd never get tired of.
"I have super hearing you know", she says after catching her breath
Your mouth makes an 'O' shape.
"Huh, I thought I was good at hiding it", you frown to yourself
"Oh no, you did great dear", she says. You turn to her confused.
If you did a good job hiding it then how..?
Dolores snickers again, "You know my family isn't as great at hiding secrets as you are"
You groaned in response. When you had ran out of ideas, you asked the Madrigals for help. An act in a moment of desperation. It made sense though, they were Dolores's family after all, surely they could be of help?
Felix and Agustin gave you tips on "how to woo and impress a girl". Julieta taught you how to cook for the many dates you had, and Isabela provided pointers on flowers, plants, and their meanings.
Antonio, Bruno, Mirabel, Luisa, and Camilo had helped in planning, practicing, buying gifts, pick up lines, and picking outfits. I bet it was one of them that slipped it out
Pepa and Alma, on the other hand, gave their blessing. When you didn't have to go home soaking wet from one of Pepa's clouds you had jumped up and down out of joy.
It was a lot of hard work too, meeting in secret whenever Dolores was on the other side of town, communicating through pen and paper only.
"So if you knew.. why didn't you say anything?", you ask confused
"Well..", Dolores pauses as though she was building suspense, "where would the fun in that be?", she teases
You frown, pretending to be upset. Dolores loses it, laughing at you again.
You take this opportunity though, cupping her cheeks and pecking her lips, making Dolores shut up, eyes wide and face bright red.
You sigh, "You were right", another peck
"Mi amor", your left hand drops, resting on her waist, while your right brushes the hair out of her face. You look into her eyes, then her lips. You smile, caress her cheek, and tug her closer.
"We should just kiss"
Camilo bit his hand trying to hold in his cries so Dolores wouldn't catch him. "Cami?" You asked knocking lightly on his door. Camilo swallowed switching off his light so you wouldn't be able to his face. You pushed his door open, noticing his figure hunched over on his bed. "Cami, I could hear you. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah," Camilo repeated wiping a hand across his face.
"Do you want to talk about it?" You asked, ignoring Camilo's obvious lie. Camilo nodded switching his light back on. You sat next to Camilo, immediately taking his hand in yours. "What happened Milo?"
"Isla got pissed off with me," Camilo said softly his eyes staring holes through the floor. "I wouldn't shapeshift for her, she got mad and then- well she spent the night with Hugo." Camilo broke down in tears again, and you pulled him towards you, letting him cry into your shoulder.
"I'm sorry Camilo, really sorry," You whispered into Camilo's hair. "I’m here for you through every breakup you go through, through all the lows and highs." You promised, holding Camilo tight. "But you haven’t ever considered me as anything other than a friend." You whispered the last part to yourself, hoping to god Camilo didn't hear it, he just got dumped he didn't need to hear you say something so insensitive.
When Camilo didn't answer, you figured he hadn't heard you. "Can you stay, just for a while at least?" Camilo asked pulling out of the hug. You nodded and you both laid down in Camilo's bed. Camilo let you hold him, pressed against your stomach, playing with his hair to help soothe him.
PLS WRITE CARLOS ANGST I WANT TO CRY
Carlos Madrigal x Reader
A/N: pain!
Pronouns: They/Them
Warning/s: none
Summary: You know how Carlos was the bad guy?
(I edited this bc the first version was just really complex)
Tumblr media
→ Forbid
Carlos had a bad reputation after he attempted destroying the magic in the past.
Carlos was still doing his task, helping the townspeople with their problems but only a few of them. Some of them still didn't trust him and that included your parents.
Your parents forbid you from going near him and of course, you obeyed them.
But here he is, attempting to get your attention.
-
"Uh-hey! Y/N isn't it? I brought you some snacks my tia made!"
Possibly a trick.
"No, thank you!"
-
"Hey Y/N, Antonio wants me to take you to Casita!"
This could be a trick, again.
"I don't know uh... Maybe later."
And Carlos was so done with your shenanigans.
|• • •
"I heard her parents told them to stay away a month ago"
Dolores stated as she washed the dishes. "And you never told me?!" Carlos was mad, "Y/N's parents knew they could hear and asked me to keep quiet.", " Then why are you telling me this now?!", "I was just waiting for you to ask."
A few minutes have passed and Carlos was trying to figure out how to talk to you without you being intimidated.
And he got an idea. Why not pretend to be someone else! But who though? Hmm...
|• • •
Mirabel was finished teaching you embroidery and you were on your way home to show your work, "Y/N!", Oh no.
"Carlos please! What now-" you looked back to see someone different. He had curly brown hair like Carlos, but his hair wasn't covering his eye. One more thing is that both of his eyes are hazel, Unlike Carlos who had the other eye green.
"Who are you?" You asked him, he hesitates for a moment, "I'm Camilo."
|• • •
Weeks have passed and you and Camilo we're such a great duo! Chaotic even.
You two would play pranks on people, get some of Julieta's extra food, and more!
Except you haven't seen Carlos when you started hanging out with him.
"Hey, Camilo, Do you think Carlos is alright?"
"Of course!"
"How are you so sure?" He thought twice. "Well...he has his family with him so he should be alright!"
And if you do see Carlos he wouldn't have that mischievous grin but a genuine smile. Maybe Camilo is right.
|• • •
"Just tell Y/N that you're Carlos," Dolores asked, Carlos was scared about the idea, "What if they stay away from me! They would be mad that I lied to them and-", "Dolores is right, Carlos. Just tell them the truth. Even if you don't the truth would still come out!" Said, Felix.
|• • •
You were invited by Camilo his house, You told your parents and they approved of this. Camilo told you that he has a surprise and you were excited!
Camilo knocked on your door, "Hola Y/N!" He greeted you, "Hola Camilo"
You two were chatting while walking to his house, and when you two got there his house was...Casita?
You saw the entire family looking at the both of you.
"Uhm, Camilo?" He stood in front of you, you could tell he was nervous.
"Y/N, please don't freak out." He shapeshifted into Carlos.
"Wait what?!-" oh boy, "Wait! I-I can explain!-", " Then explain!", He was shaking so much,
"It's just that I want to get to know you but you avoid me all the time and it was because of my bad reputation so I pretended to be someone else so that we could spend time together!"
Tagging: @justanothercamilofan @usernameunavailable @camilolovesroxiie @carlosmybeloved @itsmesmileyface @tigreost (Thought I should tag you-) @patient-steadfast-steady (you too-) @try-cry-why-try @luv4camilo
Your heart just broke, "Carlos..." You cupped his cheeks, He was crying. "Please, Even if I was willing to spend time with you I can't." Carlos clutched on your sleeves, "Please stay ... I love you."
Some angsty with happy ending if possible 👉👈
valentines special !
hate to love you
pairings : carlos x fem!reader
request : yes / no
summary : you always thought carlos madrigal had hated you but it was quite the opposite really
warnings : swear words, terribly written angst, this was rushed, crying, enemies to lovers?, i think thats it !
prompt/s :  3 - “you. . . love me ?”, 22 - “i think i’m in love”
a / n : i dont think this is very angsty but i tried and i am so sorry but it was too long and i couldnt add prompt 25 :(
You got along well with everyone especially the Madrigals, well except for one. Carlos. It’s not that you disliked him it’s more of him disliking you, Whenever you would come over to la casa Madrigal to hand out with Mirabel or help with setting up a party Carlos seemed to avoid you as a whole. You tried talking to the boy many times but he never seemed interested.
One day you were walking to Casita to find Mirabel when you hear commotion behind you, “MIRABEL!” you heard kids shouting and Mirabel... singing? What was going on? “well-” Mirabel was cut off by abuela shouting her name, “what are you doing? the matriarch asked with a raised brow.
“they were asking about the family and-” Mirabel was cut off by a young girl, “she was about to tell us about her super awesome gift!” she squealed excitedly. You felt embarrassed for Mirabel already knowing what was about to come, “Mirabel didn’t get one, hm!” and Dolores scurried off.
You watched as Osvaldo tried to be kind to Mirabel by giving her the ‘special not so special’ but he only made her cringe. Sighing you walk up to her but before you can speak someone in a red ruana rushed between Mirabel and Osvaldo, “hey quite trying to make her feel left out, she doesn’t need that shit. Now move along” Carlos spoke making the older man rush away.
“Carlos! There are kids!” Mirabel said gesturing to the six kids around them, some covering their ears some their mouths and one was even covering his eyes. “calm down they’ll be using this language some day” the boy said stalking off, he briefly glanced at you then scowled. Some people never change do they?
Mirabel shooed the small children away before turning to you, “sorry about him” she said gesturing to the direction Carlos had taken off in. “it’s fine, I’m used to it now anyway.” you shrugged, a frown evident on your face. “hey turn that frown upside down! It’s Antonio’s gift ceremony and you have to help me” the girl with glasses smiled nudging you.
-
Dolores rolled her eyes at her younger hermano, he was complaining about (y/n) again. If only he realised she heard the way his heartbeat quickened whenever he was near the girl. “and she just had to be there, ¿por qué no puede ella simplemente no estar donde estoy todo el maldito tiempo?” the boy ranted to his hermana.
“you know Carlos I think you like (y/n)” Dolores whispered, a smirk on her red lips. Carlos’s face twisted into... embarrassment? ‘No way’ the hearing Madrigal thought to herself, “what are you on about? I feel the exact opposite about her!” the shape shifter said, his cheeks turning red from nerves and embarrassment.
“well you can lie all you want but I can hear your heartbeat pick up whenever she’s near” the girl said getting up and leaving the kitchen and Carlos was left all alone with his thoughts.
-
“hola hermano” Camilo’s sickeningly sweet voice filled Carlos’s ears, ugh. “what now golden boy” the boy with the red ruana hissed, “whoa cálmate Carlos” Camilo said waltzing into his room and ruffling his brothers hair. “Camilo tu perra, it took ages to get it to look like this!” Carlos said standing up, “fine, fine lo siento, I just wanted to say a little birdie told me you have a crush” the one in the yellow ruana said grinning menacingly.
Carlos went pale, oh no. Why did he even go to Dolores, he should have suffered in silence. “what are you on about idiota?” the boy said fixing his hair in one of his hundreds of mirrors, “oh you know...” Camilo said swaying back and forth on his feet.
“you have a crush on-” before the younger twin could finish a hairbrush was launched at him, “¡cállate estúpido!” the older twin shouted gettingup from his seat, getting ready to beat the shit out of Camilo. “wait, ¡esperar! I can help!” Camilo shouted, voice slightly high pitched. Carlos raised an eyebrow glaring at his younger brother, “go on” he said flatly.
-
“you know the plan right?” “si, si now go away” the red ruana boy said shooing Camilo away, they had discussed a ‘plan’ for you to fall for Carlos during the party after Tonitos gift ceremony. If only it was that easy, Carlos was sure you hated him but he had to at least try... right?
There you were, you were talking with his papa, the two of you laughing then Félix waved goodbye and you walked over to your familia. He knew he only had one chance.
And he sure hopes he doesn’t blow it.
-
Music was vibrating through your body, you could smell perfume, alcohol and pollen all mixing together and it made you feel faint. You decided the best option was to go down to the kitchen to get a glass of water, after all you were very thirsty after all that dancing.
“primo go get her” Mirabel bumped Carlos’s shoulder making him roll his eyes, “I will, cielos” Carlos groaned and followed you to the kitchen. You were wearing a red dress, almost matching colours with his ruana, how cute Carlos thought to himself. “no no stop.” Carlos mumbled to himself as he descended the stairs.
Oh dios the way you walked and politely spoke to everyone had him swooning, and he was Carlos Madrigal so you must be worth it. “I think I’m in love” the boy said a bit too loudly as her entered the kitchen, “what?” you asked turning just to be met by Carlos with a smile on his face?!
Was he sick or something?
“um excuse me, ¿estás bien?” you asked worriedly, the boy realised his slip up and tried to cover it up. “obviously! Are you delusional or something? Why would I not be okay?” he spat making you wince internally at the harsh treatment, “I was just asking, lo siento” you mumble turning back to get yourself some water.
“I was just asking” the boy in the red ruana mocked in a high pitched voice, “get a grip and mind your own business” he said, mentally slapping himself for talking to you like that. You felt tears in your eyes, why did he hate you so much? Have you ever done anything?
Before you could stop yourself you spoke again, “what have I ever done to you?” you say, voice cracking. The shape shifter froze, dios mio, he was about to make you cry. Oh no no no no, you can’t cry it will break his heart, not to mention the amount of trouble he’ll get into.
“no I uh I don’t hate you” he said, looking everywhere but you. “so why are you so mean to me?” you shouted making the Madrigal’s temper raise, why didn’t you get it? he was in love with you! “because I love you!” Carlos shouted, before he had even registered what was happening or what he had just confessed he saw a tear go down your beautiful face.
“you... love me ?” you whispered, voice shaky. Carlos could only nod, excepting his first ever defeat.
You gasped at the look on the boys face, realising it wasn’t a sick joke. You didn’t even think you just hugged him, the action made the red ruana by stumble back from the shock but slowly hugged back.
Carlos Madrigal didn’t hate you, oh no no no, it was quite the opposite really.
Carlos Madrigal loved you.
tickle hcs for Camilo and Luisa pls
You got it anon!! :D
Requests are still open!
Camilo
• it was only a matter of time before I did hcs on this little maniac
• tklish? Him??? Never-…👀
• there is no way in Hell’s Kitchen he’s gonna admit to being tklish- NO shot-
• however-
• he is - arguably - the most ticklish Madrigal
• similar to Mirabel, he’s not a super huge fan of being tkled in front of a lot of people because it’s embarrassing for him, and he’s sorta self conscious of his laugh :(
• his laugh doesn’t really match him, that’s certainly true, but it’s lovely nonetheless!!
• very sporadic and varies in pitch - is also prone to hiccups
• kinda like “ehahEHEAHAhah-hic-EHeHA!!”
• worst spots without a doubt: back, ribs, knees, collarbone
• Most of the Madrigals know he’s pretty tklish, but the repeat offenders are Mirabel, Bruno, and -hear me out here- Mariano
• NOW LET ME EXPLAIN LET ME S P E A K
• I mean, the guy is marrying his sister, so of course they’ve gotta interact somehow-
• I love to think that Camilo and Mariano get along well, but Camilo always has an edge to him like “yo this guy is gonna be marrying my sister- lemme make sure he passes the vibe check-“
• Mariano probably senses this and tickles the mess out of him acting all offended that he would dare to even CONSIDER that he’d harm Dolores
• “You wound me, Camilo- I can’t believe you’d ever *poke* even *poke* THINK *squeeze* that I would hurt your sister! Unbelievable!”
• now ler Camilo? 🧍🧍🧍 that’s a different story-
• “My primo Camilo won’t stop until he makes you smile today” … and I live by that.
• SUPER teasy all the time-
• is a huge fan of sneaking up on people, poking them, then shifting into someone else and blending in with the crowd/ literally his favorite game 🤚
• will poke fun at the lee’s laughter/movements, no doubt in my mind
• A HIGE FAN OF CHEER-UP TKLES!!!
• if he so much as SMELLS one of his siblings or cousins in a bad mood, he’s already on his way
• for cheer up tkles, he’s very patient and sweet and polite about it. He waits until he knows for sure the person is okay being touched, and stops as soon as he’s told
•tickle hugs 🧎‍♂️
•he WILL run up behind Luisa and give her the biggest bear hug his scrawny little arms can deliver, and then out of nowhere just start scribbling on her stomach which has her on the ground in no time -
Luisa
• I personally like to believe that she didn’t even really know she was tklish until after the events of the movie, bc she never really let herself experience things like that, y’know?
•that being said, she is EXTREMELY tklish- like one of the most tklish Madrigals-
• and she doesn’t mind it at all! She actually thinks it’s fun!!
• the main Madrigals who like to jump her are Isa, Mira, and Camilo, and most often, it’s Mirabel!
• she is fully aware of how large and strong she is, so she tries to keep as still as possible as to not hurt the ler(s)
• THEY FIND IT ADORABLE-
“Awww Luisa you’re not even resisting!! Are you enjoying yourself??”
• oh she can’t stand teasing- not at all- she goes red in the face and covers her face up
• she usually can feel herself about to flush red and covers her face preemptively, but her ears go pink too, which gives her away-
• HER LAUGH-
• she has a very low voice, and a very high laugh/ ironic isn’t it-
• well her belly laugh is pretty low, but her giggles and surprised laughter is high snd breathy, and very squeaky!!
• her laugh goes silent if you hit a death spot like her hips or her neck - other spots include her knees, her back, and her stomach!!
• Ler Luisa <3
• SO gentle and SO patient???
• she again, doesn’t want to accidentally hurt anyone, so her tkles are featherlight- unless she’s directed otherwise-
• very reassuring- she will absolutely hype you up while she’s destroying you
“You’re holding up so well!!”
• she will absolutely do the ruin counting game
• OH OH HERES ONE OF MY FAVORITE HCS
• so I like to think Camilo says he’s getting super strong by like,, working out and exercising and whatever 15 year old boys say when they want to be buff a but ofc he’s a skinny little twig-
I like to think Luisa does like, check ups to “see if he’s gained any muscle”
Like she’ll squeeze and poke at his arms and his torso like “oh! You’ve got a little more muscle here than before l! Good job kid!!” AND HIS STOMACH?? CHECKING FOR NONEXISTENT ABS??
I know that drives him insane-
• my last point for ler Luisa is that she gives big hugs after the fact- such a big gentle teddy bear
SORRY THAT TOOK SO LONG my draft deleted itself and i had to start all over again TIFKENFNSCJ
AAANYWAY ENJOY!!
Comments and Questions about Encanto - Part 2
Triangles as the shapes in Bruno's cave, literally everywhere,
oH, THE SIDES OF THE HOURGLASS
Things crack more when things start to get placed together… why???
ABUELAAA AHHHH
Why does abuela always get angry at Mirabel. Im sorry miss girl here doesn't have a gift
"WE DONT TALK ABOUT BRUNOOOO BUT-" - love that s how the sing starts
"Im sorry mi vida go onnnn"- supportive HUSBAND <3
"I associate him with the sound of falling sand" is that because of the sand in his room or does she associate everyone with sound?
How does Camilo know more about Bruno when him and Mirabel are the same age. I really do believe in the idea that he saw Bruno in the kitchen getting a snack as a kids and freaked out
Casita helping Mirabel hide the vision when Agustin walks in makes my heart squeeze
Agustin freaking outttt and puts the prophecy into his pocket even though we all know something WILL happen
The little "hmm" thing that Dolores does. Makes me wonder how she picked that up and OH- maybe she does that to signal she was listening, or maybe she does that when she hears something that makes her uncomfortabe in some way????
The eye contact between Dolores and Mirabel added tension but it was also kinda funny in an uncomfortable way. y'know?
Camilo's gift being affected because of his mood- we see this several times. Pepa does this too. It doesn't have to be a negative emotion though (will mention later)
"Camilo fix your face" Felix said that so casually and i dont know if thats because hes trying to protect that families image with guests over or if its becasue it happens all the time
Pepa petting her hair for "clear skys" kinda like this because shes not just emotionally trying to clear things, but also with her gift (definitely want to talk about her emotions and gift later)
Mariano was going to do a song for Isabela and thats literally so sweet
Mariano is definitely a mama's boy
THOSE ANIMALS ARE SO MISCHIEVOUS AND ARE SEEN STEALING THINGS EARLIER FROM AGUSTIN IN THE MOVIE
Dolores covering her ears while yelling
Sensitive ears???
Agustin looking after his daughter <3 (I love him and felix, who im convinced are best bros)
Mirabels glasses are green like Bruno's eyes being green, AND PROPHECY- WAIT
COLOR THING AGAIN??? (dude, im obsessed with colors representing things)
parkour my dude. - love that there is a hole their thats he constantly jumping over and never fixed
Probably why Bruno is so fit- or that Ju
Camilo helping his mom- mama boy- which im obsessed with cause hes seen as a sarcastic jokester but he really has a sweet side AH
Literally triangles everywhere on Bruno
Bruno things include the folowing:
Knocking on wood
Salt
Sugar
Not stepping on cracks
BRUNO LEFT FOR MIRABELS SAKE- oh gosh that hurts like a butt cheek on a stick
Antonio just meeting his uncle and being like "yeah, use my room. Rats told me about it lols"
Back to the familia-
"I was thinking OF MY DAUGHTER" one of my favorite lines
we must protect our family- oh gosh, Abuela, pls look at what is happening. Mirabel is a PART of the family.
Sand- time- future? (sorry if this already made sense but i didn't get it until now)
Am I fighting or hugging??? ISABELA???
Bruno being afraid of his own mother hurts ( but me too Bruno, I'd be terrified of abuela)
"The family was happy, abuela was happy." NEVER did we here a "i was happy" from isabela
Isa <3
What else can she do? Without having to be prefect she wants something true not perfect
The amount of faith Mirabel has in Isabela and her control of the plants amazes me- CAUSE THEYRE LITERALLY ZOOMING THROUGH THE SKY ON A VINE AT ONE POINT
Best sister hyper upper goes to mirabel
ABUELA NOT LISTENING TO MIRABEL MAKES ME GO GRRRR
the cracks started with you (mirabel)
Bruno left cause of you (mirabel)
Youre (mirabel) hurting the family
I will never be good enough for you? Will I? No matter how hard I try… no matter how hard any of us tries. WE ALL LOVE THIS FAMILY. THE MIRACLE IS DYING BECAUSE OF YOU (not exact quote but you get the picture)
Mirabel not having a power to rely on BUT STILL GETS THE CANDLEEE
Casita helping her to the end
Bruno not being shoved out by Casita unlike the rest of them??? Hmm??? why? WHY???
CASITA <3
Casita waving GOODBYE- im sorry but that hurts...
Dolores helping abuela is so bittersweet
Everyone trying to find Mirabel and even the towns people knowing about this
Abuela never being able to process her trauma HURTS ME TOO
Two Ourguitas
THE LOVE PEDRO HAD FOR HIS WHOLE FAMILY
OH GOSH *slams keyboard* pls dont finish reading this one if death and imagining horrible deaths make you uncomfortable- ---------------------HE WAS NOT SHOT BUT PROBABLY HAD HIS HEAd CHOPPED OFF BY THE MACHETE
im sobbing rn
I can finally see--- open your eyes
COLOR OMG
MIRACLE IS GOLDEN
SO IS BUTTERFLY
aND THE CANDLE
The admitting of brokenness makes me feel broken
Mirabel loving her family no matter what she went through is so UGHH- pain
Bruno GOING BACK FOR MIRABEL TO STAND UP FOR HERRRR GO TÍO BRUNOOOO
ABULEA STILL HAD HER WEDDING RING ON- I just realised that
I realized that stars is mentioned several times in this movie. Like during Waiting on a miracle mirabel says something like "shine like all of you shine" and she mentions something like this again in the last song of this movie.
abuela singing in this song <3
BRUNO AND HIS SISTERS REUNION
The town helping and giving back <3
Isabela and Luisa incorporating a part of their songs into the last song makes me happyyyy
Marianos "I see you" really shook my heart BECAUSE THINGS LIKE THIS IS MENTIONED A LOT AND IT MAKES ME THINK THAT HE REALLY DOES SEEM TO LIKE HER FOR HER AND NIT CAUSE SHE IS A MADRIGAL AND YEAH
...sorry for all caps... but-
THEM HAVING A DOORKNOB TO GIVE TO MIRABEL AND ANTONIO WALKING HER TO THE DOOR JUST LIKE SHE DID FOR HIM AHHH
"I see… me. All of me." She sees her worth guys SHE SEES IT
CasITA WAVING "hola Casita" *heart melts*
Isabela have an indigo indigo dress with colors instead of purple. She is showing her true colors- wait- COLORS AGAIN BRO
Luisa getting the break the queen DESERVES
The family photo not being perfect just WARMS MY HEART- They have so much love, and aren't just being focused on their gifts.
I love things about family so much that my heart aches because of it- *sobs joyfully*
AH, END OF THE MOVIE AND IM STILL OBSESSED
Note
howdy, i was hoping to request an encanto matchup? preferably romantic.
i'm fifteen, genderfluid and im unlabeled sexualitywise. i go by val and pixie online but use kris and [REDACTED] irl
good things about me: i will listen to anyone's problems and offer advice if i can, i don't take anyone's shit and will throw hands if needed be and i give good hugs.
neutral: im quiet most of the time which is a good and bad thing, im really superstitious and i mumble and ramble under my breath a lot when nervous.
bad things about me: a hell of a lot of self doubt about everything i do, i can get so nervous to the point i throw up 💀, i have scoliosis and when my back gets too sore i have to use a wheelchair, extremely clumsy, massive mommy issues and a ball of anxiety.
likes: reading, painting, dancing, singing, baking, skateboarding, gardening, thriller movies, horror novels, theatre (especially broadway), swimming, photography and poetry.
dislikes: confrontation, discrimination, being made fun of, when being told what to do, failure, not knowing who i am and the way i look.
physical:
im really pale and im rather short (5'3 - 5'4). im covered in freckles (i like to think of them as stars and connect them like they're constellations) and have a birthmark across my neck and chest that looks like coffee stains (i get teased about it a lot so i wear a lot of turtlenecks and scarves). im pretty chubby, but im losing weight !! i have short hair (just above my earlobe and an undercut) which has been bleached to a light orange with red streaks. im thinking of growing my hair out and dying it back to my natural color (brown, almost black). i have narrow, dark brown eyes too.
fun facts:
- i have a spa day once a week to try and keep my skin smooth and just treat myself(don't tell my friends, i'd never hear the end of it)
- i babysit younger family members, dad's friend's kids and friend's siblings from time to time
- i used to volunteer at my local zoo!! the red pandas and reptiles were my favorites to look after.
- i either want to pursue psychology, continue to work with animals or pursue dance!! (the last two would be difficult due to my scoliosis)
- i have a massive collection of crystals. my room is very shiny. my favorites are a peach aventurine in the shape of a mushroom and a bloodstone in the shape of a skull
sorry if that was too much. don't forget to drink plenty of water !!
pls be my best friend
i aged down the characters to fit your age, so it wouldn't be inappropriate 😅
i match you with...
Bruno Madrigal
He loves to share his superstitions with you, and he might even tear up a little if you believe in his superstitions too, having never met someone with similar beliefs as him
You always stand up for him whenever the townspeople or his mother begin to criticize him, a trait both he and his sister's adore
Your shared love for music and theatre results in incredible plays being put on, his rats featuring in all of them, of course
And speaking of his rats, he loves how you aren't afraid to handle them or take care of them, barely flinching when one nibbles on the tip of your finger
He loves to see you interact with children, and he thinks you'd be a great parent, if given the opportunity
Honestly, this man would join you in these spa days - if you let him of course - and would almost always end up falling asleep in his chair while watching your routine
His sister's adore you, and everyone genuinely loves your relationship and how well you compliment each other
Dolores Madrigal
Gurl, she's in love with you from the start
Poetry? Photography? Singing?
She was infatuated before she had even met you
She always tries to build your confidence, trying to help you appreciate everything about yourself - even your insecurities and 'bad' traits
She loves your birthmark, always begging for you to take off your scarf so she can admire it - though she doesn't push you if you feel uncomfortable by it
When she first found out about your scoliosis, she didn't really know what is was or what it meant
So, naturally, she spent hours and hours reading every book she could find about it, wanting to support you in any way possible
Slow dances in dimly lit rooms are one of her favourite pastimes with you. She likes the intimacy of it and the serenity that accompanies slower dances
She is always there to help you if you feel overwhelmed or overstimulated
You both have a sort of secret language you use based on hand signals. That way, you can tell the other person how they are feeling or if the situation is too much without having to say anything
I hope that was ok!
