I think what always keeps me coming back to HashiMada is their dynamic of being both brought together and divided by a shared ideal. Their dream to achieve peace and create a place where the people they loved would be safe made them undefeated because they understood each other more deeply than anyone else ever could, and that understanding was built on respect and admiration for the other person’s dedication and motivations. In that sense, imo they had one of the most stable mutual understanding and communication out of all the Ashura/Indra reincarnations, but that also meant that once they disagreed on the best path towards achieving their dream, conflict became inevitable. Both Hashirama and Madara formed their bond out of an understanding that their dream of peace would always come first, even before each other. They would both give everything in their power to achieve it, even if it meant turning against each other with clear eyes. Neither of them wants to leave the other behind, but if it means achieving or protecting the path towards that dream, then they’ll do whatever it takes and trust that the other would understand. That’s why I feel that from the village’s founding until the end of the 4th war, no matter how much they fought or how much pain they caused each other, Hashirama and Madara never hated each other personally. They can hate and mourn the other’s actions, but they will always understand that the other came from the place of wanting to achieve their ideal. Their appeal as a ship for me always comes back to that tension between their love for each other and the knowledge that there’s something greater and more important than acting on that love. There’s just not a lot of dynamics where two people can fight each other to the ends of the earth while still sincerely loving and understanding where the other person is coming from ✨ if other ppl have different takes/thoughts on why they love this ship pls lmk lol
