voltron season 2 thoughts

this post is going to be scattered as fuck and full of spoilers obviously so beware

i’m gonna bullet point this shit because i think better in bullet points

things i really liked

keith’s plotine! y’all know keith is my home fry so i really enjoyed the development he was getting

allura, while i don’t think she had enough focus, still had a stellar plot and development

we got to see lots of the dynamic between allura & coran, hunk & lance, hunk & keith, and shiro & keith, which i really liked

THE SPACE MALL EPISODE WAS EVERYTHINNNG

the animation and worldbuilding?? top notch, made me bust five hundred nuts like idk how but the animation was even better this season

i liked how the galra resistance was set up as this fuckin illuminati ass cryptic ass order that hadn’t gotten very far because they never took any chances, it wasn’t what i was expecting at all

pidge had amazing dialogue in this season and bex did such a good job at voicing her!! really loved how dynamic pidge was!!

THE NEW ALIENS AND PLANETS WERE FUCKIN LIT AS SHIT MY DUDES

keith and lance working well together?? brilliant, amazing, deserving of a nobel prize

allura and keith friendship? SIGN ME THE FUCK UP

allura being a fuckign badass space witch?? FUCKING VORE ME

idk there’s probably more?? but i just binged it and probably missed a lot, i’ll be rewatching it over the next week and might add to this

things i didn’t rlly like

where was lance????? like the exploration of lance’s insecurities was neat but it felt too rushed and really shallow, and he was just sort of shoved to the side for the most part, I WANT MORE LANCE DEVELOPMENT GODDAMNIT

also ahem hunk is more than just food and fat jokes what the fuck?? he’s literally the second-smartest paladin after pidge, and i feel like that was ignored a lot in favour of making jokes

imma be real the lack of klance interaction was :(

in general the lack of interaction and relationship development between all the members of team voltron was disappointing, they still treat allura as if she’s on a bit of a piedestal, and i just want them all to see each other as equals

it felt really crammed, but the first season was also crammed and the fact that they were originally only signed to do two seasons probably explains why it feels rushed, i’m assuming the later seasons will move at a slower pace now that they know they’ve got more mctime

my last and probably biggest peeve is that while i digested the plot fine, we never got to see how the characters reacted to the things happening!! we only ever really saw shiro, hunk, and allura reacting to keith being part galra, we never got to see them digest the events around them and that made it all feel stiff

what i want in season 3

give me klance or give me death ok dreamworks me and jess already have plans to egg you we aren’t fuckin playing

more filler episodes where the relationships between the team are developed!!

EVEN MORE WORLDBUILDING I NEED THAT GOOD NUT MATERIAL

ok so

in (quint)essence

i’ve seen some people say they’e disappointed in how rushed and crammed this season feels, and i am a lil disappointed too but i was also expecting it because they were originally only signed on for two seasons so this season was originally planned to be the end

obviously since the show has grown popular their contract has been extended, so i’m pretty confident that the pace will slow down in the seasons to come

i’m really pleased with season 2, the things that bothered me will most likely be better in later seasons now that they’re not in such a time crunch, and i’m excited to see what happens next
