[c] Puppenspielerin
A witch pack commission for Doot on discord. I can't quite remember what her title was but Puppenspielerin here has a whole lot of symbolism mostly around time running out and not being in control of one's own life. You can commission a grief seed, a witch's kiss, and a witch separately, or commission all three at a slight discount here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/croutonKnight (Also turns out I'll be working off this house for 2-3 years not 2 months. I forgot to announce that earlier.)

Nagisa carries Yuma around aboard the Worm Train to go on adventures together.
Thanks to the Nagisa's shapeshifting, Yuma can also carry Nagisa places once they get there.
Yuma and Nagisa's Excellent Adventure! (Don't tell Mami and Kyouko they've been sneaking out)
Now I want to read a fic about the two of them going on a world trip together or something.

We don't really get much information about the wraiths in the original PMMM series--just a few quick shots, enough to see they are seemingly identical giants wearing Buddhist-like robes with pixelated faces. They don't appear at all in Rebellion, and are only mentioned in passing there. So how did we get from that to this?
Tumblr media
If the trailer hadn't made it explicitly clear these were wraiths--the word appears briefly in English, as well as Japanese and German--I never would have guessed. This looks... well, I don't want to say nothing like we've seen before, but all individuality or sense of separate personhood (such as it is) is has utterly vanished. It's as if all the wraiths that previously hunted in packs have been jammed together into one amorphous, distorted being... almost like a witch.
Tumblr media
Oh, and they have color now! Is that supposed to mean anything?
Indeed, wraiths becoming magical girls and (essentially) witches is a major plot point of the 2015 Wraith Arc spin-off manga, which is technically considered canon even though a lot of people, myself included, prefer to ignore it. It's not clear to me at this point what the relationship is between the manga and Walpurgis no Kaiten, the script for which was written in late 2014-early 2015ish, but it's possible the movie might briefly touch on similar themes--though I doubt the wraiths will be major players in the narrative (kinda like the Nightmares in Rebellion).
So what's going on here? I can think of two possibilities:
1) There was an art shift (maybe Inu Curry wanted to try their hand at designing wraiths or something) and this is just what wraiths look like now, ho hum, nothing to see here 2) The art shift is a visual cue that the wraiths have fundamentally changed from what they were before.
As you can probably imagine, I think 2) is far more likely given how this show treats visual designs, but we'll have to see how it plays out.
My guess is that this scene from the trailer represents Homura's system breaking down, likely due to interference from her doppelganger, although the source of this disorder will likely not be immediately apparent. In order for witches to return--and given that the movie is named for the greatest witch of them all, herself a conglomerate of multiple entities--it seems likely that the wraiths will have to either disappear or transform, and this "mutation" that we see here may well be an indicator of this process.
Furthermore, the wraiths' condition are tied to that of the Law of Cycles, as they are, essentially, a stand-in for the witches erased by the Law of Cycles. So any problems with the wraiths are most likely a symptom of a larger problem rather than the cause, but it's the one that people with boots on the ground (i.e., magical girls) are most likely to notice first.
On a more speculative note, between Walpurgisnacht and whatever is going on with the wraiths (not to mention the Madoka-Homura-Mami hybrid), it seems like joining together in this fashion may be a major theme in Walpurgis no Kaiten. Or, as the Latin expression goes, E pluribus unum--"Out of many, one". Gives a new meaning to the phrase, "With all our powers combined!"

My manga collection (October 2023)
I did a post detailing my manga collection back in 2021, but it's grown a lot since then so I figured I'd make a new post! It was also a good time to do so because we're repainting my room and while there's usually a ton of anime merch in front of the books on my shelves, now it's all been packed up. So there's a clear look at the books without me having to move anything, lol.
Anyway, without further adieu, here we go! My manga collection is largely shoujo (specifically magical girls) and horror manga.

Nah the raptors see her as a weird looking raptor that adopted her into thr pack they family now
I mean that is pretty much canon lmao.
But I really need to ask how many of you have actually seen Puella Magi Madoka Magica because I feel there is a disconnect between ya'll who saw it and know why I'm specifically calling it a pmmm au rather than a magical girl au and those who haven't.

Prompt: Homura forcing Kyouko to buy new clothes (PMMM, assuming you're still in the fandom)
I finished this a while ago but uhhh I didn't get around to posting it because of reasons. Hope you enjoy!
Title: Shopping Together
Words: ~1100
Summary: Kyouko Sakura's wardrobe isn't something she's put much thought into. Apparently, though, that's something of a problem.
Also on Ao3
******************************
“Kyouko Sakura.”
Homura’s voice had a weird power to it. She wasn’t very loud, but even in the noisy arcade, the flat, sharp words she spoke seemed to cut through the noise as if she’d shouted them into a megaphone.
Kyouko glanced over her shoulder to see the girl in question lurking behind her, looking as serious as always.
“Hey babe,” she said, grinning. A few weeks ago, that would have earned her a cold stare and a scathing remark cutting enough to draw blood. Now though, Homura gave her a faint smile, and Kyouko could swear that she saw a hint of blush on her cheeks. Actually, maybe that was just the red light from the machine near her. Well, either way. “What’s up?”
“I need you to come with me,” Homura said.
Kyouko raised an eyebrow. “Like on a date?” she said. “This is kinda short notice, isn’t it?”
Homura was silent for a moment.
“It’s not exactly a date.” She looked a little evasive. For someone who was usually so expressionless, Homura was weirdly bad at being dishonest. It was kind of a charm point, though, so that was fine. Still…
“Okay, if it’s not a date, what is it?”
“...Shopping.”
Kyouko frowned. Her song came to an end and she turned to face Homura completely, leaning forward on the railing as the machine behind her burst into celebration. “Shopping? Whaddya need me to go shopping with you for? What are you getting?”
Homura sighed. “Clothes.”
“Oh, you like, want my opinion? I don’t really know that much about fashion-”
“Clothes for you,” Homura said.
Kyouko frowned. “I have clothes,” she said.
“You have one outfit,” Homura said flatly. “It was one thing when you were living on the streets and wanted to pack light, but now it’s just absurd.”
“It’s not like I need more clothes,” Kyouko protested. “I keep ‘em plenty clean and repaired with magic. Why do I gotta get more?”
“If you really can’t imagine any reasons, then do it because I’m asking you,” Homura said. “As your girlfriend. Please.”
And what the heck was Kyouko supposed to say to that?
******************************
Getting clothes, it turned out, was going to be a highly curated process. Just like when she’d been a kid and her mother had picked her clothes out for her, Homura dragged her from aisle to aisle, throwing piles of clothes into her hands and then shooing her into the changing room to try them on. And when Kyouko suggested that maybe Homura could come into the changing room too, and wiggled her eyebrows a little to suggest what they could maybe do from there, Homura gave her a glare so cold that Kyouko felt like she had to try on a sweater before anything else.
Kyouko had always assumed that Homura would have a good fashion sense. Sure, she never actually seemed to see her in anything other than her school uniform and her magical girl outfit, but that was just because Homura was all serious and stuff. She was exactly the kinda person who’d actually listen to teachers telling their students that they were always representing their school even on their days off.
Now, though, she was starting to wonder if maybe she was wrong. Because Homura had given her about fifty outfits at this point, and they all sucked. Okay, maybe some of them would look okay on Mami or Madoka or whatever, but did Homura seriously think she was going to wear a pink fluffy dress? Come on.
“Hey babe?” Kyouko said, poking head head out of the changing room.
“What?” Homura said, glancing up from her phone. “Did you find one you like?”
“No,” Kyouko said. “Cause they all suck.”
Homura frowned. “I picked perfectly respectable clothing,” she said. “And Mami said they’d suit you perfectly.”
Kyouko groaned. Of course Mami was behind this.
“Mami would dress me up like a doll with ribbons and a bonnet if she had her way,” she said. “C’mon, I’m gonna go pick out some clothes myself.”
Homura gave her a stern look.
“What?”
“Pick something nice,” she said.
Kyouko looked at her incredulously.
“What?” Homura said.
“Never thought I’d hear you say somethin’ like that, is all.”
Homura made a sour face, and Kyouko put her hands behind her head and strolled back towards the shop. “Whatever. I’m gonna grab some stuff to try on. You wait here.”
“Fine,” Homura said.
******************************
When Kyouko came back, Homura eyed the clothes in her arms skeptically before Kyouko quickly turned away.
“No peeking,” she said. “You can judge ‘em when you see the full outfit.”
Homura gave her a suspicious look for a moment, and then looked back down at her phone. Kyouko slipped into the changing room.
******************************
“So? Whaddya think?”
Homura stared at Kyouko for a long moment, taking in her outfit.
Honestly, for a place that carried so many Mami-style things, Kyouko had been surprised at how cool some of their stuff had been. A leather jacket, with some nice black jeans, and a blouse that surely had to look respectable enough for Homura. It was basically like an officer worker shirt, right? More or less.
“You look like a delinquent,” Homura said flatly.
“What?” Kyouko said.
Homura stood up and stepped towards Kyouko, suddenly grabbing her by the shoulders and pushing her back into the changing room.
“Eh? What? What is it?” Kyouko said, bewildered.
“I told you to get something nice,” Homura said, stepping into the changing room and pulling the curtain shut behind her. “Something presentable. And you picked something that makes you look like you’re in a gang.”
Before Kyouko could respond, suddenly Homura was kissing her. And y’know, really, Kyouko was more on board with that than picking clothes, so she decided to focus on kissing instead of figuring out what was going on.
After a couple of very pleasant minutes, Homura pulled away.
“What the heck got into you all of a sudden?” Kyouko said. Now that she was no longer distracted by kisses, she was back to being confused.
Homura ignored her, opening the curtain and stepping outside again.
“I hope some of the other clothes you got are a little more normal,” she said.
“What the heck? If you don’t like these clothes, why’d you kiss me out of nowhere?!”
Homura paused, not turning back to Kyouko. “I didn’t say I didn’t like them,” she said finally.
Kyouko stared, and she was pretty sure that she could see the tips of Homura’s ears reddening. Just a little bit.
“...Besides, who doesn’t like it when their girlfriend looks cool?”

If you remember the Earth-65 Madoka Magica art you did a while back, is there any specific meaning behind the hand gestures above Matt? I remember clearly that detail really grabbing my attention when I first saw it, though the art piece is so packed with detail I feel like I discover something new everything time I see it!
I sure do remember it!
THIS is the artwork in question if anyone hasn't seen it yet.
I assume you are talking about the red comic tone hands flanking Gwen on the floor of the boxing ring/stage? So, stylistically, I was trying to mimic the collage-like nature of the witches' labyrinths in PMMM which is one of the things that really sets the visuals of that anime apart. When I was conceptualizing the composition, I was imagining the hands dancing around like the candy familiars we see in Charlotte's labryinth. The position of the fingers themselves doesn't really mean anything intentional because I was a little limited by what I could find to work with, and I also imagine that they'd be moving around anyway. (Although if I had anime studio money, they'd probably spell things out in sign language or something.)
Tumblr media
I guess they'd look something like these guys! Immediately, I knew I wanted to lift some "old timey theater signage" hands (the kind that were all the rage in the hipster renaissance of the 2010's haha) and I suppose the meaning of that is layered. Of course, they are in red because of the Hand ninja clan, but I thought the theater detail was also a good nod to Margaret Murdock's career as an actress (both she and Jack are represented in the staging) as well as Murderdock's penchant for the theatrical. The hands are like his little backup dancers, haha. It is kind of fun to imagine Gwen navigating this labyrinth and the hands pointing her in one direction or another, though!
As for the red silhouette Matt's hands (just in case I misunderstood you) they are just meant to be puppeteering the marionette Matt, since I picture him as the villain in a play of his own devising. There's not really any significance to the way they're posed, though.
Thank you so much for sending me an ask about this drawing! It's one of my favorites but I feel like some of the references are a little esoteric unless the viewer happens to be into the exact same things as me for the exact same reasons, haha. XD

I think I will be making more ship shadowboxes. The Sesskagu one I started collecting for was just for the one I currently had (they come in packs of three). But I've come up with some ideas since then, like Reigisa (makoharu was the first one I made, I'm not adding to it because it took me so long to get those keychains facing the right way), Madohomu (PMMM), TouYuki (CCS). I also considered making a single character one for Yuki Sohma (Fruits Basket) as there isn't really any merch for Machi and honestly I just love Yuki. The only reason I'm not making a SyaoSaku one is because they are the theme of my ita jacket.

SLIPPERY SLOPE prompts [accepting] [x]
@fangedmuses said:  “ i believe in you. even if they don’t. “ (from Sayaka // PMMM verse!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“My wish had never come true.” Robin had said.
And yet, the wolf magi desperately feels herself wanting to run away from the younger girl. For so long, the scars of abandonment stung on her heart. Those wounds were what she had made her wish for.
(I want to find my pack. Kyubey, please, let me find a family like a wolf would have!)
She remembered screaming her wish over the howl of the wind, the storm tearing her curls and making the Incubator seem like some god upon the parapet, awaiting the sacrifice of a lowly girl who had lost her everything.
The other girls couldn’t understand why Robin refused to stay beside them unless called to aid in battle. Yet it seemed Sayaka did understand.
“I lost everything, Sayaka. Everything. Forgive me, but it’s hard to believe you and the others will stay... That you’ll fulfill my wish.”
