Twitter demands apology for PnB Rock's girlfriend following news that suspects were already at restaurant

Now that further details surrounding PnB Rock’s death have been revealed, social media users are calling for an apology to his girlfriend who people initially attempted to blame for the events leading up to his death.

As previously reported by REVOLT, PnB was shot and killed on Sept. 12 in Inglewood, California while dining alongside his girlfriend and the mother of his two children Stephanie Sibounheuang at a Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles restaurant. After news broke of the rapper’s death, some people took to social media to criticize Sibounheuang’s decision to post a photo of her food to her Instagram Stories along with a tagged location. New reports indicate that social media may not have even played a role in the incident.

According to reports, the suspect, Freddie Lee Trone, and his 17-year-old son were already in the parking lot of the restaurant prior to the fatal robbery, leading authorities to believe that social media was not a factor in the death of the Philadelphia rapper. Now, people say that those loudly placing blame on Sibounheuang at the time of the tragedy need to be just as loud with their apology.

“Yeah all of you that were speculating that it was PnB Rock’s girlfriend post that [led] to his demise need to get punched in the throat,” wrote one Twitter user. “All y’all fake detective a**es owe PnB Rock’s girlfriend apology,” wrote another. Fellow rapper Cardi B, who initially told people to refrain from placing blame on Sibounheuang, also chimed in following the updated report. “Told y’all… Ya’ll must not know how the hood moves,” Cardi wrote via Twitter. “Ya’ll owe that girl [an] apology for the s**t y’all put her through knowing that she saw her baby dad die in her face. Social media investigators, y’all suck!”

Taehyun clenched his jaw as he looked over at you and Yeonjun. Your hands just inches away from Yeonjun's ringed finger, oblivious to the actions he was presenting you.

If only you knew better.

Taehyun thought, closing his eyes as he rubbed his head softly, trying to get this headache of a situation out of his mind. Only for it to rush back in, this time with such an intensity he wasn't sure he could handle.

He imagined you and Yeonjun holding hands walking down a beach, minding your own business as he watched from above. You'd left him because of his self conscious ways, and made your way into Yeonjun's more confident life style.

If it's such a big deal to you, go and take her right now.

His concious was going to eat him away, just by looking at you, absentmindedly reacting to Yeonjun's advances.

Of all the years he and Y/n had been together, Taehyun had never once wanted to be "clingy" but this was pushing the limits a little too much.

As soon as Yeonjun 'fake' yawned Taehyun knew it was his turn to make a move. He got up quickly, making his way over to you before smiling down at your figure.

Your cheeks burned ember red as you looked deep into his beautiful doe eyes. In a swift manner, Yeonjun removed his arm away from you, pretending to stretch, just so he could get out of this predicament.

"Hey babe, I think it's time to go home. I'm kinda sleepy.." Taehyun lied, glaring right at Yeonjun as he exaggerated the word 'babe'.

You nodded as you collected your things, waving goodbye to Yeonjun, being rushed out of the café by a smoldering Taehyun.

"Hyunnie, you're burning up!" You stated, pressing your hand to his forehead, gasping at the abnormal temperature radiating off his skin.

"It's.. nothing.."

"We're gonna get you home! I'm going to take care of you!" You shouted, grabbing into his wrist pulling him down the street with you, as Taehyun smiled.

"I'm selfish.." He chuckled, stopping abruptly, causing you to turn back and look at him.

"Hmm?" You asked, causing Taehyun to smirk.

"I want you all to myself. You don't need nobody else, because I'm selfish.."

Your eyes widened as you were pulled into his hard chest. He sighed deeply and pressed your head into his chest.

"I'm selfish, yeah.."

Bakugou looked out the car window as he watched trees, buildings, and streetlights disappear from view. The car ride back home from Kirishima’s was a quiet one, perfect for contemplation and revelations. He was so deep in thought that he had failed to notice that this wasn’t the route to his apartment but instead it was on the way to yours.

“Oi, Shitty Hair, where are you taking me? My place is that way,” he pointed his thumb in the opposite direction.

Kirishima glanced over at him before focusing on the road ahead, “well, I just thought that you two needed to sort things out… so I’m taking you to their place.”

“Yeah? Well, what makes you think I wanna talk to that dumbass?” Bakugou grunted.

Except, that wasn’t what he was worried about. He knew that he’d royally fucked up at the party from the week before, and the guilt had been eating away at him since. Bakugou was aware that you had every right to be upset with him and he wouldn’t be too surprised if you didn’t want to speak to him after your fallout. He just hoped that wouldn’t be the case.

“Don’t gotta lie to me, Bakubro. That wouldn’t be very manly of you, besides I’m tired of seeing you look so miserable.”

Your apartment complex came into view as Kirishima turned a corner, entering the parking lot.

“Tch, if this goes wrong then I just want you to remember that it was your idea to take me here.” The blonde scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest.

Bakugou wiped his hands against the material of his pants, drying off the sweat that had collected on his walk to your front door. He went over everything he wanted to say in his head before taking a deep breath and knocking on the wooden door. The voice in his head nagged at him louder than ever to turn around and never look back, he could get away in time if he ran, he thought. With each passing second, the voice grew louder and louder until the idea sounded nearly too tempting to pass up. Of course, before he could walk away and flee the scene, you answered the door.

“What do you want, Bakugou?”

He glanced up to look at you, grimacing at the coldness in your voice and how could he ignore the way you’d called him by his last name? Though his mind was soon filled with other concerns, like how exhausted you looked and sounded.

“Just wanted to talk…” his voice came out uncharacteristically timid as if he was afraid you’d slam the door in his face any second now.

You scoffed bitterly, “oh really? Now you want to talk? Thought you were too busy?”

“Look, I know I fucked up. Trust me, I know. So can we just go inside so we can talk?” Bakugou awkwardly shifted back and forth on his feet, hands shoved into his pockets while his gaze remained on you.

A brief silence filled the air between you two as he waited for your response, nervously chewing on his bottom lip in the meantime. You sighed before silently pushing the door open and stepping aside, warily letting him in once again. Shutting the door behind him, you motioned for him to head towards the couch.

“Just… wait here,” you said before disappearing into your room.

The blonde felt out of place as he stood in your living room, decorated with picture frames on the walls. He hadn’t been in your apartment in a long time, probably not since your housewarming party that you threw shortly after graduating from UA. The place didn’t look that much different from what he remembered, you still had the same rug, though it had a few stains now and the scent of the caramel apple scented candles you loved still lingered in the air.

After a few moments of standing in place awkwardly, he hesitantly walked towards the chimney to further inspect a picture that had caught his attention. It was a photo of you and him back when you still attended UA, the very same photo he’d kept in his wallet all these years. Hesitantly picking up the picture frame, he felt himself relax a bit as he reminisced all the good memories he shared with you.

“Miss those days?”

Your voice spooked him enough to clumsily place the picture frame back to where it belonged. Unsure what to say, Bakugou remained silent though his eyes spoke for him. God, he missed those times dearly.

“Yeah,” you sighed before walking into the living room, “I do too. Everything was a lot less confusing back then.”

Still, at a loss for words, Bakugou followed you like a lost puppy to the couch before tentatively sitting down. He felt like an idiot for not being able to use his words and get this over with, but it was your presence that turned him into a speechless fool.

“Are you going to keep staring at me? Or are you going to finally tell me what the fuck is going on?” You rolled your eyes at him from the opposite end of the sofa.

“Uh, yeah I just- I don’t know what to say.” He admitted bashfully.

“You’re joking, right? You don’t know what to say? Why are you even here?”

“No- that’s not what I meant. Obviously, I came here to get some things off my chest. I’m just not very good at this sort of thing and...” his voice trailed off into nothing but silence.

“Spit it out already, for fucks sake. I’m tired of waiting, Bakugou.” Your harshness stung but he knew he deserved it.

“Listen, I came to say that… I’m sorry. Okay? I know that I’ve been an asshole and probably caused you a few headaches,” he noticed your scoff before continuing, “I was dealing with some personal issues and took it out on you and I’m sorry.”

“What personal issues were you dealing with that could’ve warranted you treating me like shit? What could’ve been so bad that you shoved aside all our years of friendship and pretended like I didn’t even fucking exist, huh?”

Up until this point, you’d done a decent job at keeping your feelings bottled up. Years of doubt, pain, and confusion were all kept under wraps until now.

“Do you have any idea how much sleep I’ve lost staying up wondering what I did wrong and why you didn’t want anything to do with me anymore? Do you have any clue how much it hurt when I realized that my supposed best friend didn’t want to talk to me anymore?”

There was a certain rawness behind your words, a glimpse at your emotions that showed how hurt you truly were. Bakugou could tell that you were upset, and rightfully so. He knew he needed to hurry up and get his point across before it was too late, and yet he remained frozen in place. Mind racing at a million miles per hour, heart seemingly beating accordingly. At one point, your words had stopped registering in his head, all he could hear was the sound of his heartbeat.

“Oh, my god! Are you even listening?” You exclaimed exasperatedly.

Bakugou blinked a few times before replying, “yes! I’m listening, I just- there’s a lot on my mind and it’s- it’s a lot.”

You stared at him expectantly, waiting for a response to the rant you’d just dumped on him. It was hard to look at him for longer than a few seconds, and if you looked for a moment longer, you feared that you’d give in and forgive him. But you needed to stay strong and stand your ground, you couldn’t keep putting up with his shit forever and pretend like it was okay. You deserved better.

“I never meant to hurt you,” he sighed.

“Well, you did.”

His eyes flashed a look of guilt before he averted his gaze to his lap, “I know I did, and I’m sorry. Didn’t mean for things to get this bad, it wasn’t supposed to be like this.”

“Okay… but I still want an explanation as to why you suddenly decided to change your attitude towards me.”

“I know! I’m getting there, damn it. This isn’t easy for me, you know. I’m trying my best so just… be patient with me.” He frowned.

“Can I… can I try something? Do you trust me?” Your expression softened, body turning towards him.

“Tch. I guess so.” Bakugou grumbled.

“Then I want you to come here and rest your head on my lap, like the old days. Remember?” You offered him a slight smile as you patted your thighs.

A confused expression fell upon Bakugou’s face as he stared back at you. It took him a moment before he slowly let his guard down just enough to do as you said, hesitantly resting his head on your lap. You smiled down at him before gently rubbing circles on his temples, something you did back in UA whenever he strained himself too much during training. A noticeable silence filled the room as he felt himself melting into your embrace, something he had missed dearly.

“Now, go ahead and talk to me. I’m listening.”

Bakugou nodded before taking a deep breath, “you’re too kind for your own good, you know. I don’t deserve this, and I sure as hell don’t deserve you, not after everything I’ve done.”

“Ssh, just keep talking.”

“But it’s the truth…” he sighed, “you want to know why I’ve been so distant?”

You hummed.

The blonde shut his eyes as he tried to gather his thoughts, “it’s ‘cause I was doing you a favor— or at least I thought I was. I thought that by leaving you in the past, with my memories of UA, that I’d be able to make things easier on the both of us. Apparently, that wasn’t the case because here we are, three years later back to square one.”

“Why would you think that would be such a good idea?”

“Because… all my life I’ve been this selfish bastard who destroyed everything in his path to get to the top. I’ve done fucked up shit that caused so much pain, so much destruction and if I could take it all back then trust me, I would. Eventually, I got tired of being the bad guy, so I decided that it would be best if I just left you alone.”

Your hands ceased momentarily, “So let me get this straight. You thought that you’d be doing me a favor by ghosting me with no warning? Didn’t you ever stop to consider just how hard it would be for me to lose my best friend?”

“You think it’s been any easier on me?” He scoffed.

“I feel like there’s still more you’re not telling me.”

“Yeah… I guess there’s no more avoiding it now, is there?”

“Nope.”

A sigh slipped past the blonde’s lips, “Figured. Listen here dumbass ‘cause I’m only saying this once. I didn’t exactly plan on falling for my best friend, but I did. It scared the hell out of me at first, just ask Shitty Hair. It still scares me if I’m completely honest.”

“How long? Since you realized that you had feelings for me?” You questioned.

“Far too long.”

Truthfully, Bakugou couldn’t have given you an accurate response even if he wanted to. He had no idea when these feelings had started to develop, all he knew was that one day you smiled at him and he felt his heart race like never before.

“Why did you wait so long to tell me?”

“Be happy that I even told you because I was already set on taking these feelings with me to the grave.”

“Is it really so bad that you like me?” You frowned.

Part of you knew that Bakugou was never the best at putting things nicely and usually it didn’t bother you. Not after years of growing accustomed to his blunt honesty. But that didn’t mean that his words didn’t sting just a tiny bit. Sure, you were happy that you’d gotten your answer but perhaps you’d be happier if he didn’t seem so bothered by the fact that he had feelings for you.

“You need to stop doing that. Stop talking about yourself like you’re just another damn extra. All my life, I’ve looked down on others. Never thought anyone would ever be as great as me. Yet, here you are and now I realize that I’m the one who isn’t good enough for you.”

Bakugou let out a frustrated sigh before sitting up and distancing himself from you, “So maybe it is bad that I like you as much as I do. ‘Cause, you deserve to be with someone perfect for you and I am far from that… Except, I don’t want to let you go. I’m fuckin’ selfish and I want to keep you all to myself. It’s fucked up, I know, but it’s the truth.”

You didn’t say anything for a moment, too busy processing all the information that had been dumped on you. It was a lot, but not necessarily in a bad way. There’d always been a glimmer of hope in the back of your mind that he felt the same way but you never expected him to ever admit it. Now that everything was out in the open, you couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with joy. Katsuki Bakugou, your best friend whom you’d been secretly harboring feelings for had finally admitted that those feelings were mutual.

“I’m the idiot that fell in love with their best friend...” the blonde mumbled, low enough that you’d nearly missed it.

If he had said anything else before that sentence then you hadn’t heard it, you found it hard to focus on his words when all you could think about was kissing him. Ignoring the nerves racing through your body, you took a leap of faith and gently shoved him down onto the sofa, leaning in for a kiss. Bakugou’s face heated up almost instantly with the blush spread across his face as evidence, his hand instinctively cradling the back of your head.

You smiled against his lips, “Well, then I guess that makes two of us.”

For the past six months, @pixeljazzy​ and I have been working on a playlist we felt could top last year’s, which was so well received! 

We’ve broken it up into sections by individual love interests, multiple love interests, main character, and miscellaneous, which includes side characters, general vibes, etc. Underneath each song are lyrics we believed stood out to us along with explanations as to why we chose it. Like last year, the [p] is for PJ and [j] is for Jade.

The softness and apologetic tone of the song reminds me of Logan through and through. He’s so regretful for what he put MC through, both at the beginning when he was lying to her, and by the end when he thinks he’s ruined her life by simply being a criminal and dating her. And by leaving her he’s leaving the one person who’s loved him unconditionally and stuck with him through it all.

Call Me, Nav [j]

They taught me, "Don't forget where you came from" / I regret what I came from

Do you know how it feel to feel alone? / Bought myself a house, to feel like I ain't home / Driving by myself, ain't got nowhere to go / Are you really here for me, I don't know

I hope you mean everything that you told me / I'll try to come back to you, girl, I'm sorry / If you miss me, just call me

This song honestly reminded me of Logan’s backstory that we don’t know much of, besides the fact that he was thrust into a life of crime as a teen and as an adult he hates it. The other lyrics I added are kind of a glimpse into the future I think – wherever Logan is, whatever he’s doing, if he’s not with MC, the woman he loves, everything he accomplishes is gonna feel hollow. And despite him saying that he was leaving to protect her, I know in his heart he’d want her to find her way back to him.

Cold Case Love, Rihanna [p]

I’m torn apart and you know / What you did to me was a crime

We opened up a cold case love / And it got the best of us / And now prints, pictures, and white outlines / Are all that’s left at the scene of a crime / Of a cold case love

The first line reminded me of how MC probably felt after being betrayed by Logan, the one that was arguably supposed to be the closest to them, and then the second lyric is because at the time, MC left and that was the last Logan knew of them with nothing to stand for what they used to have until they eventually came back to help save the crew.

Compass, The Neighbourhood [j]

If I don't have you with me, I'm alone / You know I never know which way to go / I think I need you with me for all-time / When I need new direction for my mind

This is a quintessential Logan song – reading these lyrics, it’s like Logan spoke them himself to MC, and that’s why I included so much of the song. All of these remind me of him and his hopeless romanticism, but specifically the line about her being the star he looks for every night? Absolutely perfect. This entire song is like a love letter from Logan to MC.

Don’t Leave Me, Blackstreet [p]

I’m searching for the words to make you realize / That I really, really want you to stay

Don’t leave, don’t leave me girl

This song was giving me Logan vibes from the diamond scene where he’s like “I can’t believe I love someone” and MC is like “you don’t get to say that to me” or some shit like that because he’s trying soo so hard to explain himself to her and to make her not hate him.

Imma Dog, Ugly God ft. PnB Rock [j]

You say you love me, shawty, tell me why / 'Cause I'm a dog and I'ma probably be this way until I die / You say you always gon' be by my side / You say you trust me with your heart and I swear, I just wonder why

Okay, hear me out, I forreal have reasons for this to be tied to Logan. The only verse in this song that’s a non chorus one is related to cheating, but I’m choosing to ignore that for the sake of the chorus. I heard the chorus for the first time and it made me think of one specific moment and point in time in Ride or Die. These lyrics remind me of Logan’s attitude when he was being mean and pretending to be annoyed by MC to get her off of him – despite the facade he’s still in awe of the way she trusts him and cares about him even when he’s treating her like garbage.

Life’s a Mess, Juice WRLD ft. Halsey [p]

Uh, sometimes life’s a mess

Lookin’ for somethin’ real, then I found it

I’m too flawed to hold you down, but / Don’t wanna be here alone

Logan knows all too well how much of a mess life really is (first lyric), and the second lyric is basically what I think he feels about MC. He told MC in the beginning that he doesn’t really stay with crews or trust anyone but himself, but MC was that exception before the rest of the crew became that exception too. And then the third lyric is because Logan looks at himself as someone who probably doesn’t deserve MC, Vaughn even said he was morally obligated to tell MC that she’s too good for his cousin (yes it was a joke (was it) but it fits), but he still wants her anyway (“Look at you...then look at me. You’re going to be valedictorian. I never even went to high school...I don’t have anything, and I wasn’t anybody, and I knew that. I always knew that….Some part of me really wants you to mess things up for me.” - Logan, Ch. 3).

The first lyric I feel like is pretty self-explanatory as Logan expresses remorse for his actions (him acting weird and tryna tell MC about his dishonesty in the club, him making the effort to apologize or explain in the diamond scene after the reveal) and it especially hits if your MC is romancing Logan because he doesn’t want to lose them. As for the second lyric, I was thinking about how he was probably stuck between doing what’s best for the crew and doing right by MC

While We’re Young, Jhene Aiko [j]

Baby while we're young / I think we should do something crazy / Like say, "Fuck everyone" / And just run away from the daily routine

I'm tellin' everybody you're mine and I like it / And I really hope you don't mind, I can't fight it

This reminds me of Logan and MC’s brand of romance that’s sweet and clumsy and a little bit reckless when it really gets going. They’re both cautious but they fantasize about throwing caution to the wind even more than they already have.

Angel With A Shotgun, The Cab [p]

I don’t care if heaven won’t take me back / I’ll throw away my faith, babe, just to keep you safe

Sometimes to win, you have to sin

And I want to live, not just survive

Lemme explain because I feel like people may think this song is really really out there for Colt but I was listening to this song one day and thought of him, esp the last two lines I chose: I think of how Colt came up with the kidnapping plan and how it was so crazy because it was like wow he really was ready for murder if it came down to it, but Colt was basically like we need to do something big to outsmart them or else we’ll just be doing shit for them forever (‘sometimes to win, you have to sin’).

Born 2 Be Great, Lil Tjay [p]

I was born to be great / And I won’t let nobody tell me I ain’t / And I can’t stop, won’t stop

Growin’ up, I’m gettin’ old, start settin’ goals / Tryna make more money off my business and shows / And everybody gon’ hate, I’m great, I know / Everybody can hate, I’m great, I know

These lyrics just scream COLT to me all the way. He knows and believes he’s destined for greatness no matter what path he chooses because no matter what he does, he’s gonna succeed in the end. “I can’t stop, won’t stop” reminds me of how Kaneko wanted Colt to choose for himself what he wanted to do, and even though Kaneko tried to shield Colt away from the family business, that’s where Colt wanted to be. The second lyric is essentially Colt just knowing he’s gonna make money and that he won’t be liked (hated by other crews, police, etc.), but that won’t matter because he’s great nevertheless.

Chandelier, B.o.B ft. Lauriana Mae [p]

Making something out of absolutely nothing / That’s the definition of a survivor

Colt definitely felt ‘put your soul into everything, never back down / that’s how you leave a legacy behind’ because of how much he focuses on carrying on what his family has built, and taking all the risks necessary to keep that legacy alive and make a name for himself. I put ‘shining like a chandelier’ because that’s how bright Colt shines, as I believe he’s destined for greatness and wouldn’t allow himself to achieve anything but.

Down Bad, Real Recognize Rio [j]

I've been out of my head for a couple minutes, for a couple miles / Made the hair stand up on my neck / On a knife edge, comin' at me for my crimes / Got a mind that can leave you locked inside

This song reminds me of Colt specifically during the gambling scene when he got shot and the last car chase scene, because MC is put in serious danger but it does nothing to shake her love for Colt. She’s scared for her life and her future but she’s still willing to put everything on the line for him and MPC.

Forever Ever, Trippie Redd ft. Young Thug [p]

You gon’ really have to hold me fuckin’ down, babe / ‘Cause I ain’t with the fuckery, that playing ‘round, babe

We Bonnie and Clyde but except the shots

He don’t love you like he should, I can love you better

First and second lyric are because they’re a team, and Colt sees MC as his right hand. In the life he lives, the people on his team gotta be down fr because there’s always a lot at stake. The last lyric is more conditional, as I feel like this could be him if MC was also romancing Logan because in the reveal, Colt’s like you deserved to know and in the car in the chapter afterwards that’s when he’s like bro we could run this whole shit etc. etc.

Impala, O2worldwide [j]

I been watching you from a distance / Sitting back and acknowledging your existence / I made a couple songs but you'll probably never listen / Shooting my shot but i'm always fucking missing / Setting my ego aside / Me and you can go together just like Bonnie and Clyde / I've been tripping over you just like my shoes is untied / And I tried to hit you up its like my confidence died but

I see you everyday but don't past corners of eyes / I'm just gonna act like I didn't see you close to that guy / Not gonna lie you got me head over ears / I'm tryna find love because I don't know just how it feels

Anyone listening to this and reading the lyrics is going to hate me because… is this the perfect “Colt pining for MC because she’s getting close to Logan” Love Triangle song, or what? I listen to this song so casually most of the time that I forget how sad the lyrics actually are. The first couple verses (not the third verse) fit the narrative so well. A lot of my favorite “Colt” songs aren’t ones where they’re outwardly admitting any kind of affection for MC – they’re the ones where it reads as Colt struggling with their feelings for MC and how to express them.

This song always guts me because G Herbo is talking about all the people he’s lost, and for Colt, I imagined this was probably him after losing his father. Reminded of his past when he saw the remains of the shop, reminded of his past every time after that probably when he was rebuilding the shop. As for the million dollars, it’s like he could pull off as many heists as he could but he would never be satisfied until Brotherhood paid, hence the last lyric because honestly I don’t think it’s over until Shaw is dead (ik there’s a line in ROD where he’s like if we were even, he’d be dead, I just know it).

I think this is Colt way farther down the line if MC had the chance to really fall in love with him. He’s the type to value trust and loyalty in a bond more than anything else because he doesn’t do either of those easily at all. And I think that the line about being sun-proof is a cute callback to a lot of the fandom comparisons of Colt and Icarus – the title too and the lyrics just scream Colt to me.

The more I listen to this song the more I think this song is about Colt and MC. Colt’s not a clingy type in the slightest, but there’s no doubt in my mind that deeper into the relationship, both Colt and MC would have some doubts – the reason I say this is because I’m viewing the lyrics through the lens of Colt and MC doing long distance while MC is in college on the East Coast. This whole song is long distance relationship anxiety summed up perfectly and it’s so Colt.

Second lyric resonated with me esp because of that line in the book where he’s like “But the two of us? We put our brains together, you and me could run this whole town” so he knows he could achieve an empire with MC by his side. Last lyric is because Colt definitely doesn’t trust those around him and for those that he does trust, that trust doesn’t come easy. So MC, who managed to get past that, is loved, but would automatically lose a lot if she deceived him (now imagine….snitch MC? This line would hit a lot more because she ends up deceiving him so like he had a right to be wary of her holding his heart (like if we’re looking at the pov of him saying this lyric)).

So I finally did a Mona route and GOD yes this song is about cheating (Mona and Hieron can’t relate) but we gon ignore that and just focus on these lyrics specifically because wow they really hit me like Mona for one was in denial of her feelings for MC from the jump and at some point she’s like god this is so ridiculous I can’t believe I’m feeling this way again so ofc she doesn’t want people to know she’s in love (like that time Toby is like man she is NOT happy about liking you! in the club scene) hence the beginning of the first lyric but at the same time….. she’s in love… so “this is my favorite mistake.” As for the second and third, the lies are that “I don’t like you” ra ra ra she’s only fooling herself and then it’s like yeah she knows her feelings are dumb but she can’t help but fall for MC anyway <3

For the first lyric, I was thinking of the time MC says “Being with you makes a difference to me. It feels safer” and Mona replies that “It’s just an illusion. A blanket. And I’ve told you before not to count on me.” Yeah she said that wit her chest but ik she knows it’s more than that for the both of them. The second and third lyric both have to do with her being in jail by the end of the book (making it literally hard to keep in touch), and even though she tells MC not to wait up, a part of me thinks the vulnerable part of Mona would’ve hoped at least a smidge that MC would, and the last bit ‘thinking ‘bout what you’re gon’ do / I hope that you see it through’ reminds me of the advice in the diamond scene of driving Mona to the hospital that she gave MC which was that to move on, you just gotta keep your foot on the gas and look forward and that eventually, she’ll be somewhere better than she’s ever been.

I’ll never ever get over how this song fell into my lap and is absolutely perfect for Mona. This is for an MC who acknowledges that Mona’s a badass and that she loves her because of her strong personality and unwavering confidence because she knows she’s good at her job. The first verse is the best approach an MC could take – leaving her fear at the door because she knows someone like Mona could sniff it out. The line “No, you don’t have to save me / From my pretty little weapon” kills me, because it’s accurate – on Mona’s route, despite any betrayal, the MC is still in love with her and knows that Mona would never actually hurt her.

The first time I heard this song it was a toss up between whether or not it was a Colt and Mona song (or both) but I settled on Mona pretty quickly after a re-listen. Not only is the internal conflict in the lyrics a perfect description of Mona’s own battle, but it could be easily viewed from MC’s perspective as well. The idea of knowing it’s “wrong”, and mistrusting them but pursuing it anyways is quintessential early Mona route.

I think the first lyric is definitely MC to Mona because Mona was afraid to allow herself to be in love, and then evidently their relationship couldn’t blossom because Mona ends up arrested (“we could have been, we should have been”). This song called out to me because Mona always comments on how MC’s heart got them into the Brotherhood mess, how MC always think the crew is something they’re not, so MC’s heart is the marble heart and the last lyric (“it’s bullshit and we know it”) is essentially Mona being like girl you know we are not what you think we are. The second lyric is because in a scene after the reveal, Mona drives MC to Riya’s house and MC goes I wish we could run off together and Mona is like just say the word and MC is like I can’t :/// and then Mona is like the only one stopping you is you, and then “I’m better off without you” is Mona being don’t call don’t write don’t text

Essentially, Mona’s ex and her were thick as thieves, and when they got arrested, Mona didn’t say anything and her ex did, so Mona was always ten toes down but her ex never had her (Mona) like she (Mona) thought she (her ex) had her (Mona)

I think that this song and these lyrics fit into the title of the book and how “ride or die” each of the love interests are for MC and vice versa. I think the softer parts of this song are MC for sure, and Logan at times, and the second bullet point is Colt and Mona. For them, it’s more of a promise of loyalty rather than love like the earlier lyric is (which is why I think that’s a bit more hopeless romantic like Logan).

I love this song because it makes me think of the possibility of MC and the LI having a “song” – one where any time they hear it they think of each other. And that when they hear it it makes them happy but at the same time they’re forced do think about the distance between them and how much they miss each other.

So I think it fits for all three because the relationship is taboo since they’re criminals and she’s a valedictorian getting ready for college. Their relationship is sloppy and dangerous and comes to an inevitable end, and they both know that, so this song for sure encapsulates how little both the LI and MC care about that. They don’t that it’s a trainwreck, because colliding is all that matters :)

I love the idea of this song being viewed as MC’s perspective of her LI, because I’m sure the other LI’s haven’t been appreciated in the way that she appreciates them. For example, the line about the laugh melting in her hands makes me think about how they’d react to her saying that to them. None of the LI’s probably have never been told their laugh is cute, and I’m sure they’d be confused about it at first, so this whole song gives me a cute late night summer drive vibe. Like the MC is in the passenger seat of Mona or Logan’s car or draped around Colt and she’s just appreciating the things she loves about them.

I originally added this song because it’s canon that Colt loves old West Coast Rap, so that makes me think he’s a huge Tupac fan. I can see him listening to this in his car driving down a California highway at like 2 a.m. On the other hand, though, the beginning of the song reminds me of the first meeting with Logan at the party, or the second meeting when they go to the car show – young love jitters and all that.

I think this fits with all the LI’s and MC and how they cope after the LI’s had to leave. Read it from both perspectives and it honestly fits so well for both of them – like the first couple months of restlessness staring at their ceiling while reflecting on how much they miss each other.

The attitude of this song reminds me of both Mona and Colt’s feelings about relationships – they both know they’re intense people and that they don’t trust or love easily, and that whoever’s interested in them needs to know that. They’re not going to apologize for it, but they appreciate anyone who sticks around and loves them despite that.

I think of all three LI’s when I listen to this, because it fits into the idea of them struggling to maintain both of their lifestyles and have them mesh together. And it plays into the distance when MPC has to scatter.

This reminds me of the prom scene from the LI’s perspective. And even more so than that, it reminds me of post prom/car chase where they have to say goodbye to each other the last time. It’s like a bittersweet tribute to MC about how much they mean to them and how much they’ll think about them when they’re apart.

I think of Colt mostly with this song, but it definitely fits with all of the li’s in my opinion! Logan, Colt, and Mona would all approach their relationship with MC this way – constantly affirming that they’re there for MC no matter what, even if things go South with them, they’re always one call away. And especially the last line “they just wanna use you, but I’m tryna help you” that’s for sure an overprotective LI about the Jason Shaw situation and generally people taking advantage of MC’s kindness.

I feel like this lyric specifically is saying that if you’re gonna stand for something, you better give it your all, and it reminded me of how MC came up with the plan to defeat the Brotherhood in the last few chapters of ROD, and to get out of it, they really had to go all out (AKA MC telling the police everything, meaning the gang had to go on the run). Also, MC just nose-dived into this life and I feel like this lyric is like ‘well sis if you gon be a criminal you might as well do your best’ (and she did when she bodied her first heist I know that’s right, my driver forever <3).

I just feel like this is a good song for MC to listen to in the car on her way to Langston yk crying but the windows are down and the wind is wiping your tears so you just keep it pushing because you’ll live and you’re stronger than your lows.

I don’t think I need to go super in depth as to why this reminded me of MC, but I do see this as MC’s defeated approach to it in the months/years after meeting the MPC.

It’s a short song so I just put the whole lyrics in here LMFAO but I feel like this could be MC during her first few nights at Langston. For Hieron at least, I know she went through a range of emotions processing this new chapter without the people she holds dear, angry at the way this is how things had to play out, but all that’s left for her to do is get over it, move on, and get used to not having that support anymore (i.e. like if MC is used to cuddling with [insert LI], they deadass gotta sleep alone now f in the chat).

OKAY so I’m absolutely obsessed with this song and the first lyric was definitely giving me Logan x MC because I feel like this is something he could’ve said during his goodbye, like saying something that vulnerable and heartwrenchingly sweet is def on-brand for him, but the second lyric I feel like fits all the LIs. Like because they were part of the crew, they spent so much time with MC, and now that they’re gone, MC has all those pictures and memories that they  want to hold on to them so badly even though they can never be together again (‘now you’re someone that I used to know’)

So I think this song covers a lot of topics for MC. I think the vibe of the lyrics suit MC when she’s dealing with her relationship with her father, being pressured by Jason Shaw, and grappling with whether or not she’s making the right decision despite it all – homegirl was falling in love throughout all of it, too. Reading the lyrics with that lens made me think of each of the lines as a different conversation. The first part sounds like a tidbit of a conversation she could’ve had with her dad or about her dad. The next one is like a realization that despite how careful she is with her choices, nothing matters anyways, if the MC takes a nihilistic approach to it. And the last lyric is her conclusion with the LI that despite everything, she’s happy that she’s with her LI and she’s grateful for their loyalty.

This song reminds me of rebellious MC before the gravity of the situation really hits her – the short span of time where she’s not worrying about being Valedictorian or college or her dad’s approval. She’s just living and falling in love for the first time. This could probably work for all LI’s but the specific “troublemaker” line makes me think of an MC who is trying to reassure Logan that she can make her own decisions.

The lyrics kind of remind me of the lifestyle that they live – whether or not they fell for the MC in the process, they all kind of have the motive of money and being successful in their own way. Even though the li’s and MC have their own shortcomings and wants and needs outside of MPC, I like to think of this song as an ego booster and probably representative of their attitudes when they joined MPC at the beginning. Reminds me of Logan especially since he joined the life so early and probably romanticized it for the longest time before it really went to shit. And to add to that, the last lyric is Colt all the way.

The first lyric and this song overall just give me club vibes, like the underground one they went to where MC wears that neon fit. The part in the second line that always gets me is ‘this is the life that we chose’ because being a part of this crew was a choice for most, and they knew what comes with this lifestyle.

So the entire song is pretty much the idea  “I wish life were better and I’m daydreaming about how good things could be for me”. And to be honest, I think that the vibes of that fit Logan when he was young and broke, but at the same time, I could see Colt bumping this song in a convertible.

JJ hated when you were seeing other guys. It cut into his time with you and in his personal opinion, none of them deserved you, your time, or your affection. He’d watched you go through hell with boys in his frat and in others. He’d seen you crying over them, raging over them, and embarrassed by them (though you shouldn’t have been, they weren’t worth it).

What JJ didn’t know was that you were never really happy with any of them. They were placeholders for the day you managed to work up the courage to ask JJ out. Every guy had something in common with him. The same build, same hair color, same blue eyes, etc. You didn’t even notice it until your roommate set you down and pointed it out.

One afternoon, you were in JJ’s room getting ready for a date. JJ was laid on his bed, hands behind his head, watching you focusing on not getting mascara in your eyeshadow. He laughed at your facial expression, “You look dumb as fuck,” he joked.

“Maybe so, but I look better than you ever could, so I’d hush it if I were you.”

JJ sat up, “He’s not even coming to the door?”

“Don’t think so, they rarely do.”

He looked really bothered and stood up, “I think I’ll go have a talk with him.”

“JJ,” you warned.

Waving away your concerns, he walked toward the door, “Just want to meet him. If you start dating him, he’s going to be around anyway, may as well get to know him.”

There wasn’t really much you could do to stop him, you weren’t even dressed yet, so you resigned yourself, “Yeah, just don’t scare him away before we even go out once.”

JJ walked out the door into the crisp air, hands shoved deep in his pockets, and he regretted not bringing a jacket. He came to a stop at the car parked right in front of the house and knocked on the window until the boy rolled it down, looking confused.

“What’s up, bro, I’m JJ.”

“Um, hey, I’m Danny.”

“You’re here for my girl?”

Danny furrowed his eyebrows and asked, “Your girl?”

“Yeah, you’re taking her out tonight.”

“Oh, um, yeah, guess so. Didn’t know she was seeing someone, sorry.”

“No, we’re not…we aren’t together, she’s my best friend.”

Danny gave him a weird look and crossed his arms, “She’s never mentioned you.”

JJ tensed defensively, “Doesn’t matter if she has or not. Just know, that if you hurt her, in any way, you’ll be answering to me.”

“Bro, chill, it’s not that serious.”

“Bro,” JJ mocked, “it is that serious. You fuck with her and you’re fucking with me, so I’m telling you, don’t.”

Danny rolled his eyes, “Whatever dude, jealousy isn’t a good look.”

“It’s not jealousy, it’s loyalty, and if you can’t spot the difference now, you’re in trouble.”

Before Danny could answer, you came speed walking out the door. JJ whirled around and smiled at you, “Lookin good, bud.”

“Always do,” you joked back.

He walked you around to the passenger’s side of the car and opened the door, shutting it behind you softly while Danny watched, weird look on his face.

“Have fun,” JJ told you, in an almost mocking tone, and you just missed him point two fingers at his eyes and then at Danny. You did notice Danny tense and followed his gaze to JJ who was standing innocently, hands back in his pockets.

“You alright, Danny?”

“Yeah, I’m good. You ready?”

“As I’ll ever be,” you told him with a grin.

Tyler

Tyler normally didn’t pay attention to petty shit at parties, but there was something about the way the group of boys was talking, glancing at you and your roommate cleaning house at beer pong, every so often. He slid over closer so he could hear.

All he heard was “hot piece of ass” and “bet she gets around” and “Maybank has a claim on her, but I heard he’s not doing much about it.”

Tyler stiffened and asked, “Who are you talking about?”

The boy closest to him jumped, “Oh, no one.”

“I know you’re lying, so I’ll ask again. Who are you talking about?”

The boy stuttered, “Um, it’s not really important. It’s just like, locker room talk, you know?”

Tyler sighed, “Yeah, well we don’t talk about women that way here, so you’d better knock it off or I’ll knock you out.”

“Just as bad as Maybank,” one of the boys on the outskirts of the group mumbled but Tyler heard him.

“Say that again.”

The boy looked uncomfortable, but he squared his shoulders, “I said, just as bad as Maybank.”

Before Tyler could say anything, you and your roommate let out a loud yell, and you said “Get the fuck out of here, how many times do I have to beat y’all before you realize you suck!”

Your roommate pulled you away from the table, sufficiently tipsy and well on your way to drunk, and passed you off to Tyler with a, “Bro she’s getting messy and my boyfriend is picking me up in a few minutes.”

You leaned into him, reaching for his beer. He handed it to you with a chuckle and you drained it, setting the bottle on the table near him.

Tyler wrapped an arm around you, “You good, babe?”

“All good, could use another drink though. You gonna be my partner now?”

“No. But I will keep you company.”

“Fuck yeah,” you cheered, “my best friend.”

You were too focused on Tyler to hear the boy, but Tyler heard the mumbled, “So they pass her around then. How do I get in on that little friend-cest action?”

“Show some fucking respect,” Tyler spat at him, finally having heard enough.

Your eyes widened at his hostile tone, “What’s wrong?”

He shook his head, dismissing it, but one of the boys spoke over him, “What’s it gonna take to- “

Another guy clapped a hand over his mouth and said, “Nope, we’re not doing this, he’s drunk and he’ll regret getting his ass kicked in the morning.”

You blinked up at Tyler, “Is he being a dick?”

“He is.”

“Ah, men.”

“Yeah, unfortunately, but don’t worry, I won’t let them say shit about you.”

You wrapped an arm around his waist and smiled, “My hero. I know you’ve got my back.”

“I do.”

“Now, hero, you down to go get more drinks?”

“Lead the way, I want nothing more than to be your bartender for the night.”

When you showed up at the house, in tears, the last person you wanted to see was JJ. The girl he’d been seeing had been sending you shit on Instagram, for no goddamn reason other than that she was just fucking mean.

Cody was leaving when you arrived, and he stopped as soon as he caught a glimpse of your face. He put both of his hands on your shoulders, “Bro, what’s wrong.”

“Fucking Brooke is what’s wrong.”

His eyebrows furrowed as he tried to think, “Who? Oh, the Phi Mu that JJ’s seeing?”

“That’s the one,” you confirmed.

Cody squeezed your shoulder, “What happened?”

“She’s been harassing me on Instagram and shit. I don’t know, it’s been a long fucking morning and I go on Instagram to see a DM saying none of your friends actually like you, you piece of shit and it was just too much.”

“The fuck?” Cody asked, holding his hand out for your phone.

You handed it to him, and he unlocked it with his thumb, scrolling immediately to your Instagram. As he read, his grip tightened around your phone, and when he tried to hand it back, you pushed it away tiredly, “Keep it honestly, I’m so tired.”

Cody slid it in his pocket and nodded, “No class for me, we’re going to get lunch.”

“No, don’t skip class for me.”

“Attendance isn’t mandatory, trust me, it’ll be fine.”

You sighed and followed him to his truck. Throwing your bag into his back seat, you buckled up, holding your hand out for his phone to plug into the aux. Glancing at him, you asked, “What are you feeling?”

“Not picky.”

“Sad playlist time,” you muttered, scrolling through Cody’s Spotify to find where he’d followed your playlist.

Hitting shuffle, Cigarette Daydreams started playing and you threw your head back as Cody started backing out of the driveway, headed to your favorite burrito place. When he parked, Cody looked over at you, “Honestly, you’re fucking awesome, don’t let these girls get you down, yeah?”

You teared up a little and got out of the car, wiping your eyes. He threw and arm over your shoulder and the two of you walked toward the door. Unfortunately, stepping inside, your eyes immediately found JJ and Brooke sitting in your usual booth.

Cody tensed, “Gonna tell them to fucking move.”

“No,” you told him, “let’s just get it to-go and we’ll go somewhere else. She’s ruining the vibes here now.”

With a laugh, Cody nodded, “Sure, we’ll just ignore them.”

It didn’t work because JJ saw you both and caught your attention as you tried to exit, “Guys, come sit?”

“No,” you told him, pulling Cody behind you.

JJ looked hurt and the girl smirked at you, “Let her go, JJ, it’s fine.”

“Hey,” Cody cut in, “don’t you dare speak to her.”

Eyes widening, JJ looked between the three of you in confusion, “What’s going on?”

“Ask Brooke,” you spat at him and started walking toward the door again.

Cody pointed at her, “I’m telling you, knock that shit off. We’re in college and you’re acting like a high school bully.”

“Need people to fight your battles now?” Brooke called after you.

You didn’t even bother to answer her, just kept walking, not really in the mood to deal with any more of her shit. Faintly, you heard Cody tell JJ, “Your little girlfriend is talking shit. Tell her to knock it off.”

With a slight smile, you pushed the door open, Cody at your heels. Grabbing his hand, you squeezed, “Thanks for the backup.”

It was supposed to be a fun night out with their friends, finally emerging from their new relationship bubble of happiness to fall back into their regular routine. Drinks with Hot Pie and Lommy at the pub while they watched the football game felt almost exactly the same as it always did, except for the arm Gendry had snugly wrapped around her waist. Arya couldn't stop smiling; they'd been having such a fun time.

Then, Joffrey had to ruin it. "Look at this," he jeered when she made her way to the bar for another round, precariously perched on his stool with how liquored up he was. "Little Arya Stark has got herself a boyfriend. Is he blind or just stupid?"

"Shut up, Joffrey." Flagging down the bartender, she was determined to ignore him, made difficult by the chorus of guffaws around him. Still, she waited as patiently as she could - until a pretzel landed in her hair. "Back off," she warned, throwing it back at him. The thwack against his forehead was almost worth the trouble of seeing him.

Almost.

Turning nearly purple with rage, Joffrey leapt down to his feet and took a menacing step toward her. His friends, however, moved away from them, already looking uncomfortable. Arya recognized a couple from some of Sansa's parties, and she made a mental note to get their names. Surely, she and Margaery would be up for some social payback. 

Joffrey, however, seemed to be looking for a more immediate confrontation. Considering how he treated her sister, Arya was more than ready to handle him. "What, Baratheon? You can dish it out, but you can't take it?"

"You little-"

She felt him before she heard him, strong and warm at her back. He must have been intimidating, too, from the way the color drained from Joffrey's face. "Need help with the drinks, Arya?" Gendry asked, his voice a tad stony. 

“Nope,” she answered with a pop of her lips. “Just got distracted by some local scum.”

Scoffing, Joffrey balled his fists at his side. “I’m the scum?” he asked, incredulous. His eyes dragged over Gendry “You’re the one with a habit of bringing home strays.”

Arya took a livid step toward him, only to feel Gendry’s arm drop over her shoulder. When she looked up at him, though, he was looking at the shrinking crowd of support behind Joffrey with a bored grin. “Sounds like you’re jealous to me, mate.”

“Please, I’ve had the hotter sister wrapped around my finger for years,” he spat, his whole face red with offense. 

“Don’t talk about Sansa,” Arya bit out, ready to throw a punch if he continued to test her temper. After the shit he pulled with her sister, like hell did he get to brag about it. 

Joffrey sneered and moved to close the gap between them. “Or what?”

Edging himself to stand more at Arya’s side, Gendry crossed his arms, making his biceps bulge with a threatening presence. “You tell us,” he replied coolly. “Personally, I think you should go find your friends and leave us be.”

Glancing behind him, Joffrey seemed to realize all of his buddies had melted into the crowd. He pursed his lips, finger raising to wag under her nose. “I won’t forget this, Stark.”

“Me, neither,” she promised, her tone level despite the undercurrent of rage. As Joffrey stomped off, Gendry relaxed beside her, but it only made her angrier. “Excuse you, I don’t need you to protect me. I had it handled.”

Pulling back from her, he crossed his arms again, a sight she decided would not distract her. Much. “I know you did,” he defended with a scowl. “Doesn’t mean I have to sit back and listen to him insult my girlfriend. If he crosses you, he crosses me.”

“Okay, caveman.”

Gendry shook his head. “It’s not a possessive thing,” he tried to explain, not that she seemed all that open to listening. Gods, he loved her anyway. “I just- If someone comes after you, I know you can more than take care of yourself. But I’ll still be there to make sure they hurt twice as much for even trying. I would do that anyway, even if we weren’t together.”

“I know,” she yelled, not quite ready to let go of her anger but conceding his point. It’s not like they hadn’t gotten in their fair share of scraps when they were just best friends. Looking up, his lower lip had pouted a bit in his annoyance, and she found herself stifling a bashful smile. “I know,” she repeated more softly, moving toward him until her hands landed comfortably on his waist and sliding them underneath his arms to rest on his chest. “It might take me some getting used to, though.”

Fighting a grin of his own, he loosened his arms to wrap them around her. He leaned down, too, to rest his forehead against hers. “I don’t mind you getting used to it,” he flirted. “Sort of counting on it, actually.”

“Yeah?” Arya tilted her chin up for a kiss, smiling when he tried to make it last. “Sounds like you’re planning on sticking around, then.”

His hand had lifted to her cheek, his hold so gentle for someone so big. Rather than answering her with words, however, he contented himself with breathing the same air for a long moment before slowly - so slowly - brushing her lips with his. Clutching his shirt, she was more than happy to fall into this kiss and looked forward to many similar occurrences in the future.

That is, until someone made a retching noise right beside them. “Ugh,” Lommy groaned with a look of grave disgust. “Is this how it’s going to be from now on? You left for drinks ages ago.”

Stubbornly, Arya wrapped Gendry’s arms around her as she leaned into him with a sickly sweet smile. “If you’ve got a problem with my boyfriend, Lom, then you’ve got a problem with me.”

“Pretty sure my problem is with both of you,” he muttered, moving past them to the bar - not that they noticed. They were too busy grinning at each other to care much about anything happening around them. So much for emerging from that bubble of theirs.
