i have a question about a potters headcannon

where did the potters being poc headcannon come from

im not against it or anything i actually like it especially in marauders fanarts, shows more diversity

I don't know where it came from.

I think there are a lot of different hc where various Marauders characters are POC, though I agree there's a theme of the Potters as Desi.

If I had to guess, the fact that these characters are mostly made up plays into it. There are no movies or tv shows with James (outside of like thirty seconds twice - and even then he's depicted as a 40 year old even though he died at like 20 y/o, which makes the movie depictions inherently wrong from the start). These are tiny side characters in the Potterverse.

(Yes I recognize that Sirius and Remus aren't, but James, Lily, Regulus, Evan, Marlene, Mary, etc etc etc, totally are.)

The Marauders fanbase on Tumblr is one of those super inclusive groups who like to see all kinds of different sexualities and genders in their stories and art. There's also varying levels of physical disabilities, non-neurotypical storylines, etc. Characters of different races and backgrounds really fit that bill.

It lends itself to that more than, say, characters from a tv show like Stranger Things, where they're mostly depicted like the actors. (That shows up on my dash which is why I mentioned it, it isn't a criticism of the show or fanbase.)

Also sorry it took me forever to reply, I didn't necessarily feel qualified to answer, but I figured I'd give it a shot just based on my theory.

Guys James and Reggie are married and yes they are Harry’s dads. But, hear me out. Mary and Lily are also Harry’s mums and he would rather go and ask his mums about how to get Ginny because WHAT DOES JEGULUS KNOW ABT GETTING GIRLS?

Side note: I really like the idea that Harry had to stay with the Dursleys for whatever reason (for the first few years of his life). I think it helps me to keep Harry’s canon defence mechanisms and personality.

Ps. I also really love golden trio meeting on the train. Idk its just so cute. Idl the idea that Harry was childhood friends with Ron cause it kind of takes away from the generosity he showed Ron on the train. Idk

If you're making james indian in your fic, please make him anglo-indian. That's the actual LEAST you can do. Don't just be like “this is james, he's indian, but the same as normal white james“. The desi james hc makes most sense if james is anglo indian. Anglo indians have their own culture and all so research that. But itsg don't just make him brown for the sake of it.

a/n: hi lover! thank you for the request, i’m not bengali and i didn’t want to write something that could possibly offend the bengali community however i did try and incorporate indian culture because i’m tamil (telegu) so i hope you enjoy this! if you don’t let me know 💗

the sun shone down on your brown skin as you made your way through the forbidden forest after one of remus’ transformations. you could feel the fatigue hitting you now and you knew that you needed a nap before even attempting to go to any of your classes.

you knew you would be excused considering minnie and dumbledore both knew of remus’ transformations and that you guys would help, however they were unaware of you all becoming illegal animagi.

as you watched sirius and james make their way to the hospital wing where they laid moony on one of the free beds you took a damp washcloth and softly ran it over remus’ new scars over his face.

he softly winced and for each wince you muttered a small apology.

“if i knew i’d have y/n/n doting on me when i got hurt maybe i’d get hurt more often” sirius teased and you couldn’t help but smile before flicking his forehead.

“if you got hurt, i’d let you bleed out padfoot” you smiled sweetly at him and you could hear james snort to the left of you.

once madam pomfrey had come to help remus you all made your way to the boys dorms where you decided to lay down for a bit.

“y/n, do you want to come lay down with me?” you heard sirius ask before a loud oomph was heard as he fell of his bed or more correctly speaking he was pushed by a certain raven haired boy with glasses.

“i’ll come lay down in a minute, i’m going back to my dorm to do some prayers for rem” you state, getting up before making your way to the door.

you hear hurried footsteps behind you and you turn around to face a sheepish looking james.

“can i come with you?” he mutters before rubbing the back of his neck.

“of course you can jamie”

you both walk hand in hand to your dorm where you take off your shoes outside and kneel in front of your shiva statue.

you light your lamp and relight some agarbatti that had finished through the night.

you feel james kneel next to you and you look at him with a smile. he looks confused in a sort of cute puppy way.

you show him the correct motions and pray with him before putting ash on his forehead.

you sit in silence for a few moments before you peek open an eye to look at him.

he looks so serene, happy and at peace in front you of you that you can’t help but smile.

he cracks open one of his eyes to shoot you a smile before motioning his head forward telling you to pay attention

you muffle a laugh before you finish off your prayer and make your way back to the dorm before cleaning up.

as you both lay down in james’ bed after sirius had gotten bored of teasing you two, you draw circles on his chest and you can feel him smile down at you.

“hey y/n/n? what do you thinks gonna happen to us in the future?” he asks albeit curious to what your answer would be.

“my parents are looking for potential suitors i guess, it’s odd for me to be of age and not be

betrothed to someone already, i guess hogwarts could only buy me so much time”

“betrothed? you mean engaged?”

you hum and you can feel him tense under you, you weren’t particularly happy about the circumstances either but there was only little you could do against your parents.

“w-what if we got married?” james fleamont potter never stuttered. especially when talking to girls.

“james you know that can’t happen, what about lily? you’ve been chasing her for years..”

you feel him shift so he’s sitting up and he lifts your face to face his.

“lily was always a distraction for me y/n, i never thought you would like me - i still don’t think you do- but i won’t be able to live with myself if i let you get married to someone else without knowing how i feel about you”

your eyes well with tears and you can feel your heart thudding against your rib cage.

“you like me?”

he smiles almost amused by your lack of composure before his eyes fill with love and affection.

“like? i’ve been in love with you since the day we met y/n”

you can’t contain yourself for some reason and as tears escape your eyes you slowly lift your hand to james’ face and place your lips on his.

“i have been waiting for you to say that since 5th year james.”

“oh-“ he flushes in embarrassment.

“okay okay we get it, you two love each other BUT FOR THE LOVE OF MERLIN PLEASE GO TO SLEEP ITS 6AM”

you and james snicker to yourselves as you go back to cuddling as sirius’ sleepy snored fill the room once again.

I wanna write a trans Reggie fic. But I'm afraid, that, I, as a cis female, will not do it justice. I don't know what it's like to be trans, and although I know many people who are trans, I still don't feel right writing about it. Especially if we think about how much trauma Regulus has, and how hard it must've been for him. That's not to say that it's not hard for all trans people, cause I know it is, but like ☹ I don't know. This is why I cant write it 😭 my friend who's trans keeps telling me to do it cause I have good headcanons in his opinion, but I just don't feel like I have, the right? I guess. To write about it. That's also why I don't really go into detail when I write poc characters, which I feel horrible about, cause I'm a white person and will never know the struggles being poc comes with. I have............ opinions on the new Harry Potter show, specifically the diversifying of the cast

Maybe this is me being overprotective as a poc myself but I really don't want to see white hp character become poc. Mainly because their whiteness is such an integral part of their characterisation.

I don't want to see a Black Hermione because her performative activism is very white savior. She canonically disregards the people she is protesting for and she just is privileged and acts like it. Like in 'Falcon and the Winter Soldier' Sam is a lot more careful around the law than Bucky, because well Black people tend to face harsher sentences. Hermione is canonically reckless now it would be different if this was just a flaw she grew out of but no this is a part of her personality. And one time commenting on how she'd rather be killed then expelled does not change the statement. Also Hermione has never canonically discrimination, besides some cheap remarks, she has not faced any real discrimination I mean she is regarded as one of the brightest witch of her time and heck she was lended the f*cking Time Turner for classes.

Also another discussion I have seen on the internet is a Arabic Harry and honestly I have no problems with he is great I love him. My problem is with his parents Lily is a green-eyed ginger she is undoubtedly white which leaves James f*cking Potter. Let me start this of by saying I hate James, his entire character is just of a rich, privileged, white boy who got away with all the harm he did, I barely even like Snape but James Potter just disgusts me. He canonically just approached another student, disarmed him and humiliated them in front of a mob by stripping him. He is nothing more then a bully. His privilege is what kept him safe, he should have been suspended but no if you as administrator are going to protect one student over the, protect the privileged perpetrator
