percy:

becomes a high school teacher

teaches high school marine biology (idk how it is in other schools but when we hit sophomore year we got to choose different bio classes ie: marine bio, ag bio, med bio + regular bio)

also teaches the mythology elective and is the swim team coach

annabeth:

we already know this queen is an architect with obvious inspiration from greek architecture

learns how to make blue food for percy and their kids from sally

has traveled all over the world looking at different architecture

learns the basics of many languages so shes able to communicate with the locals

her and leo team up to build a small school near camp half-blood for year rounders so everyone can learn consistently but dw they get summers off

piper:

love her but shes a nepo baby

she doesnt act like it tho

loves her dad to bits but does not like being seen out in public by the paparazzi

marries shel, they dont have kids tho, neither of them want to bring any into the world especially with america’s downfall and the government erasing women and poc rights

him and calypso dont last, maybe a year and a half in they split bc calypso wants to explore the world and leo is very emotionally unstable and calypso has a hard time understanding

they end on good terms but dont ever talk unless its with a group of friends

starts smoking cigarettes/vaping

his friends dont really approve but they understand he cant quit just yet as hes not in a mental space to do so

goes to therapy with a psychologist whos a demigod that specializes in grieving and war trauma

they all go to therapy but hes the last one to do it

he’s still the ‘happy go lucky’ guy hes always been but as he gets closer w the others they start to see the true sadness in him

piper and him grow a lot closer after jason died and have a big sister little brother relationship

hazel:

my girl stays at camp jupiter

takes nicos place at camp

horse trainer

her and frank also dont work out as a romantic relationship, they felt that the age gap was too much after frank turned 18 and hazel was 15 theyre still friends tho

hazel often visits leo in his shop

as much as leo reminds her of sammy, through therapy she has recognized that theyre separate people and to not push all her past feelings for sammy onto leo

not only does she train horses but she also teaches little kids basic math, science, and history to the younger kids

they all call her ms. hazel

she prefers to teach the really young kids (age 4-7)

wears her hair in different braid styles after BOO

frank:

my friggin HOMIE

i relate to frank a lot personality wise

therefore i think hed be a 4/20 fanatic after BOO

hes not stoned during training or during important camp duties

but otherwise you try talkin to him and you dont really notice until you look and see the far off look and red eyes and he just goes “huh?”

other than that hes a great leader

after he gets his cool new look from mars he takes really good care of his body including consistent exercise and eating really healthily (maybe he has a soft spot for fast food when hes hi)

him joining the military does not make sense to me

he lost his mom to war, and he was in one himself, idk about you but i would not wanna join the military after being the main character in a war

he studies to be a veterinarian for exotic animals

when no one is around he shifts into the animal to find out whats wrong

Last night...

I had a very in-depth mental conversation with myself and eventually a friend about what kind of Latino Percy and Leo are.

We knew from the get that they weren't Hispanic because it says in ink that Leo looks like "a Latino Santa's elf" so we wanted to honor that and by default made the same thing for Percy.

I thought about the lighter skinned Latino communities and realized I have a friend who is Cuban and Colombian who looks white passing. We really REALLY liked the idea of Percy being Cuban for reasons completely unknown (and by osmosis Sally since she's the mortal parent). I ALSO headcanon Posideon as a hunky Samoan man so, take with that what you will.

Leo on the other hand was really hard. Since he's from Texas, we were like "ok maybe he's Mexican. That would add for a lot of struggle in his and his mother's backstory if it were to be like that." But we both felt uncomfortable just slapping that label on him and being done with it. As someone in the black and brown community, I didn't exactly want to write that kind of political media (even though I kinda did it in Ashes to Ashes, unshameful promo). So! I had always had this tugging feeling that Leo was Puerto Rican. I have no clue why but every person I've meet from the P.R. has been playful and so sunny but knows when to put in the work when need be (not that others aren't like that!).

My friend suggested him being Colombian so he could have a big culo, but I declined😂.

THEN I had the beautiful ephiphany of a Domincian Hephaestus and my heart sung! I was like, yes anything to add the spices to the pot! I'm a majority African American with some Native American and a dash of Spanish lol and the small joy of Leo Valdez, Puerto Rican (Black) Dominican teenage boy, was so invigorating!

So in conclusion, I love my two brown boys and if you read this you should check out my AO3 and read Ashes to Ashes to see them in action☺️

Indian! Percy or Indian! Annabeth

Ok, so, the casting for PJO has been opened up to all races, meaning that we may very well get a POC Percy or Annabeth for season 1. I'm Indian, and usually, we barely get any representation on media, or if we do, it's filled with stereotypes, and I just wanted to include some Headcanons for an Indian Percy or Indian Annabeth.

Indian! Percy

Percy's family immigrated to the U.S. from India, and (this follows canon) Sally has to marry Gabe to cover up Percy's demigod stench

Little Percy, running around NYC, having to adapt to a whole new culture and language and then add the powerful demigod issue

It's tiring, to say the least

Just imagine holi with Percy's water powers

Gabe is incredibly disrespectful and racist to Sally and we end up hating him even more for that

Of course, Sally and Percy are more "American" nicknames to their real ones

For example, Percy's name could be Palash, or Prashisht (there are more, Ik, but this is just a general thing) and he gets sick of the mispronunciation, so he just says, "Call me Percy, it's fine,"

Percy having to deal with the Indian Stereotype that all Indians are smart and will go into tech, even though the words swim in weird circles when he tries to read and electronics go nuts around him

In addition to Greek Gods, Percy prays to Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma, Indra, Saraswati, etc.

Percy speaking Hindi as well as Greek, so when he gets really angry, he just mutters to himself in Hindi, knowing Annabeth and Grover can't understand (a habit he picked up from Sally)

Sally spoiling Percy with a lot of Indian sweets because trust me, those are amazing and full of sugar, and Percy would love them

Indian! Annabeth

Annabeth as a kid, running around with her dad, soaking up stories about her culture, and trying to learn as much as she can

When her dad remarries, Annabeth sees them losing a lot of what they used to do, like eating the same food, talking in Hindi, going to temple

Part of that is why she left

In addition to being able to read Greek, Hindi script is easier for her too

Annabeth loves the Mahabharata

When she was still in school, the stereotypes really got to her, and she burst out at her classmates and teachers one time

Her dad wasn't happy with her

When she runs away with Thalia and Luke, she makes a point to stop at at least one temple and pray for her family and her self

The Athena & Saraswati parallels

Annabeth taking Bharatnatyam because she thinks it'll help her agility and "grace" during battles

Oh, and Annabeth's name may have to be changed in order to fit Indian culture as well

All that being said, I would love a Latino, Asian, Black, or literally of any race/ethnicity PJO character, I just really really really want to see some good Indian representation and this series was my childhood so...yeah.

first, heights

Piper is taller than Leo, but she's the same height as Annabeth

both Piper and Annabeth are shorter than their boyfriends, but Jason is just a little taller than Percy

Frank is the tallest and Hazel is the shortest of the seven

speaking of Hazel, she is a thicc queen

Hazel is asexual but is still in a healthy relationship with Frank

Nico taught her all about the modern queer community and that's how she figured out she was ace

before that, Hazel was the first person Nico came out to and she promised she wouldn't tell anyone until he was ready

Percy is poc and bisexual

Piper and Leo are both bi too

Annabeth is straight but even she thought Piper was attractive

Piper and Leo are best friends

they care alot about each other but also argue like siblings and cause chaos

Jason had to get them out of trouble way too many times

they stay up doing sibling things too like seriously debating movie theories and which celebrity is hotter and tastes in music while raiding the fridge for a midnight snack (true story)

they let Jason in on it too although he doesn't understand most of it

Piper and Jason always made time for Leo even when they were a couple

Jason and Piper did actually love each other, despite their relationship being based on fake memories

after Jason died, Piper and Leo became inseparable for a while bc both were scared of losing another friend

Why, in my opinion, Black!Percy is ok but Black!Nico is not so much. First of all, i'm not here to fight with poc, just trying to show a point of view from a different and hugely unrapresented group. Second of all, i'm from Italy and not a foreign languages student, so my english might be... i don't know, wacky? Lol, i really hope i can make myself clear. Let's start with the idea that percy might be portrayed as a black boy. It's not canon in the book, so i'm not a fan of this idea BUT no harm would come from doing it. Percy's ethnicity is never relevant to the story and his 'whiteness' is the kind of 'typical american white boy from english descent whiteness' (i'm sure i used the english language awfully here, pretend you didn't see it, please xD). His group is vastly rapresented, as you all know, so making him black wouldn't take a lot away from that group of people and would be great for people of color's rapresentation. That's why i think a black percy jackson is not problematic. Now, for the controversial part of my speech: Nico. Nico is canonically from Venice, which is in northern Italy. I come from Venice too, so i speak here as a venetian person. We are SUPER not represented in American media. There is this huge Italian stereotype in America, which is close to what people in SOUTHERN Italy look like and act like, mediterranean and all. Most of northern italians are not like that. We had centuries of french and austrohungaric domination, we look AND act like people from central Europe, usually. The diversity of culture and looks and behaviors we have in Italy is beautiful and amazing and i'm proud of it all and it's a shame that is not commonly known outside our country. So now we can talk about... stuff i read about Nico. People say Riordan 'whitewashed' Nico, since he was darker in the titans curse. Well, i think that Rick realized that he was using that stereotype and decided to change a little. Making him paler is making him more similar to what people really look like in Venice. Most of us, in Veneto (Venice's region), are very pale with dark hair, exactly like our dear ghost king. Making Nico paler was also consistent with the plot, but i'm not gonna go down that road since a lot of people alredy talked about this. What i'm saying here is: Northern italians and venetian people have no representation AT ALL. Nico is literally the only one that comes to my mind right now. So i feel that wishing for a black Nico is robbing another group of their very deserved and rare bit of representation. I'm not saying you peeps should not headcanon him as black, headcanons are free, i'm just saying, try not to force your headcanon on people who actually care about their only little bit of representation. I really don't want to offend anybody, i love all the races and i would become a beast when seeing people portraying Piper, Leo or Hazel whiter than they are, but i really thought you needed to read a different perspective on why Nico's whiteness is not like Percy's or Jason's or Annabeth's. I really hope you can read my intentions in the right way and not be super offended. Please, i just wanted to give visibility to a different (very much unknown) group. I love you all. What do you think about people from the latin america saying that the latino percy headcanon is racist because it is based in negativa racial stereotypes? I’ve seen this going around in tumblr and would like to know your opinion pls

i haven’t seen whatever argument is floating around, but i know that a lot of latino percy headcanons on tumblr stem from my post about percy being from a poor latino neighborhood so i’m guessing it’s in response to that? i will say that my headcanon started mainly with me recognizing my own experiences and family in percy’s story, though. percy’s life echoes the lives of so many poc from the usa, especially in the lightning thief – he lives in a community that is only 7% white where his mom is one of many working her heart out to pull them out of poverty, he feels uncomfortable around his white peers, his teachers assume he is a troublemaker based off of his looks alone, & the media is all too ready to label him, a 12 year old, as a criminal. combined with his black, untamable hair, tan skin, and the fact that he looks at a biracial kid (sadie) and imagines she is what his and annabeth’s kid would look like, i honestly think it’s harder to make an argument for percy being white than him being a poc. his mom is even famous for her salsa lmao. obviously there are latinos in the us whose lives aren’t like this, but i think there’s a difference between recognizing the patterns between percy’s life and the lives of real nyc latinos, and basing a character’s race in stereotypes. leo, for example, feels very stereotypical to me – he’s overly flirty, short, has a loud mouth, and is walking comic relief. given the choice, i prefer having percy as my latino rep :)

Piper being ”unconventional“ as in hating make-up and being dressed up is in itself more than fine but the execution was lacking and her coming off as pretentious and annoying was the result

Why do you dislike latino!Percy headcanons so much? No hate, just curious!

I already explained it here but I realize that I’ve been more aggressive about that recently, so I'll do it again because once is not enough.

Basically, I hate this concept because of its origins and the reasons people use to argue about Percy being Latino. I am Latina myself. I am Colombian, with Colombian parents and family and have lived here my whole life. This headcanon comes from the fact that Percy is poor and lives in a poor neighbourhood with a high concentration of black and Latinx population, and comes from an abusive household(with Gabe as his stepfather) so to me it feels as if people came to the conclusion that poor+poor neighbourhood+abusive household=Latino! This obviously rubs me the wrong way because none of these three things are synonyms of being Latino, and maybe to people from Caucasian or other ethnicities it doesn’t seem this way but as someone from that specific group, it certainly does. Wouldn’t you or anyone be mad if your nationality was stereotyped in that way? It is like amid this coronavirus epidemic people encountered a character who has poor hygiene and automatically labeled it as Chinese, it would totally be offensive and unfair and that is how Latino!Percy feels to me.

Another thing that has been bothering more is the fanart. So let's pretend that Percy is Latino, and I have no problem with the reasons listed above, that doesn’t automatically mean he is brown. Latin America goes from Mexico all the way down to Argentina, and due to colonization and the mix of many races such as Native American, Spanish, Africans and all the others that came from them we have a hugely diverse population. Some Latinx are brown, some are black, some are even white and some are somewhere in between. Automatically drawing Percy as brown erases all of these and goes into the stereotype that Latino=brown. Sofia Vergara, who is Colombian like me, is naturally blond and fair-skinned, and she has said that in order to fit in the Latino stereotype for Americans she had to dye her hair and tan her skin. I am somewhat fair-skinned myself and in my Taylor Swift side-blog people have told me that I shouldn’t participate in the poc selfie night since I don’t look like a poc, which to me in completely unfair since that is part of my identity and my heritage. Moreover, the other 2 characters who have been canonically descrived as Latinx, Reyna and Leo, are described as brown, so I see no point in adding another Latinx character with these characteristics, considering that there is a chance of portraying the cultural vastness of Latin America.

Lastly, we already have Latino representation with Reyna and Leo. I see it as pointless to add another Latix character who doesn’t even represent the Latinx culture at all since nowhere in the books we see a glance into his family’s traditions or anything like that. I don’t believe that representation for the sake of representation is okay, it is just like when people say that J.K. Rowling making Dumbledore gay is not queer representation. Labeling a character as an ethnicity without including the things that surround that specific group is not only wrong but also useless. We also don’t get nearly enough representation of white poor kids in literature, Percy could be this type of representation for them instead of representing a group that has already been included in the books.

I just want to say that if you picture him as Latino that is your choice and you are free to imagine him how you like and I obviously don’t have the right to tell you not to do it. I hope this was helpful to you! Sorry if it is too long.

first of all, i recognize that canon Percy and Marguerite are textbook dumb heteros who just need to talk to each other and fuck knows why i like them so much, but i also used to think queer people were just better at that sort of thing (bc you know I thought that the self-knowledge and courage and ability to see through dumb cisheteronormative expectations that came with the territory would give one an edge) and honestly it's been a bit of a trip to constantly discover the extent to which we're all complete disasters

anyway all this to say, Percy and Marguerite are a matched set of distinguished-disaster bisexuals and peak mlm/wlw solidarity. they both went to boarding school and Mrgt was in theatre so like. they Know what they're about.

(side note back in the day i wanted Scarlet Pimpernel but Lesbians nd it was gonna be Pimpernels and Violets w/ Gwendolyn Christie for Percy and Gugu Mbatha-Raw for Mrgt.)

but honestly while we're here with my old headcanons I rly want POC Mrgt and Armand especially knowing what I know now about Alex Dumas and how many multi-racial folks from Haiti were knocking around Parisian society being wealthy and fabulous

this adds some whole other considerations that I would need to research mostly because of England being weird and whether Percy and Mrgt could have gotten married in the first place. but like if you were black, France basically was the only promise for freedom. you didn't have other places to go. how much more weight does that lend to Mrgt's decision to condemn de St. Cyr? being willing to make that call because the idea of royalist invasion and having that first lick of freedom snatched away is intolerable? having to struggle with watching those real possibilities get corrupted and torn away but really truly knowing what it was worth to begin with and never quite knowing when to break away from it?

and Armand, who's all in for the same reason, Armand who's smart and passionate and idealistic who gets to help shape the new government only to realize it's becoming a monster and swallowing him up while he's stuck on the inside

due to Percy's charisma stats he became the center of the Eton queer penguin huddle, starting with Andrew Foulkes when he realized he wasn't terribly interested in women except that he just thinks they're neat (thought maybe he was gay before realizing men weren't really his thing either, aromantic, now platonically devoted to Percy and the league and Marguerite)

Tony Dewhurst had an entire blazing crush on Percy that eventually settled into a platonic devotion, (okay but have you seen 80s Tony Dewhurst and the way he looks at Percy? it’s like he was taking lessons in Gay Babey from Aziraphale) now in a close relationship with his 'valet' (actually a bf from France who they rescued nd is now in England disguised as Dewhurst's valet so they can be close w/o raising eyebrows)

Armand is... straight. it happens. however instead of being the token dumb hetero, Armand is not only a good bro and ally but he's actually pretty emotionally astute, he's just not a schemes-and-layers thinker like literally all the others, and he's reasonably in touch wth his feelings and acts on them which just gets him in a lot of trouble with 'rational' society and furthermore he's the one who reminds people to actually talk instead of playing mind games and that friends is why Armand has the brain cell

What is "Latin America"?

Latin America is a term that is referred to the the countries of the american continent in witch the people talks languages derived from latin (spanish, french and portuguese).

How we called people who lives in Latin America?

We called them LATINOS.

What is a Latino?

Latino is a person who were BORN and RAISED in LATIN AMERICA.

Knowing that, here are some points:

Some people people think that Percy is Latino because he has tan skin; latino is not a skin color!! Latinos can be white too, they're not all poc. Stop that, please.

Also, some people AFFIRM that Sally is latina because she know how to cook well?? And because she know how to do sauces?? Um, she can know that and not be latina. Latino is NOT only speak some words in spanish and know how to cook mexican food!!

Another argument: "Percy lives in Spanish Harlem". ... Yes, so? He can live there, interect with Latino Culture and NOT BE latino, because Percy weren't borned in Latin America guys!!!!!!

Chapter 12 - The Mirror of Erised

Harry Potter and the Sacred Text word of the day: (White) Privilege

When I learned that this was the word that the hosts would use for chapter 12, I was.... intrigued to say the least about how they would connect the concept. But once again, I was amazed on what they found! Basically the invisibility cloak was a symbol for both having privilege and not having privilege. The original word(s) of the day is “white privilege” but the idea can also work for privilege in general, which is why I have white in parentheses. Just to put it out there, I’m an asexual black woman which right off the bat puts me at a disadvantage for the top categories of privilege lol, so this topic is something very close to home and I will not sugar coat anything. istg if I get any defensive replies or asks

The invisibility cloak having a double meaning around privilege is so fascinating to me. It reveals how invisibility can be good or bad depending if a person is privileged or not. For example, if you’re white, you will largely be ignored on the things you do; you can get away with almost anything. This is the positive side of the invisibility cloak, as Harry can roam around the castle without being noticed, particularly at night, and not be caught. On the flip side, a white person will be seen as an individual, their actions defining themselves and not an entire group. Alternatively, this is the complete opposite of any minority. Any black person walking down the street will be noticed because they are black, my people literally can’t do anything without the cops being called on them. And a black person’s actions ends up being a collective definition of the entire race. Like... a white shooter will always be talked about as an individual and the event being an isolated case. If the shooter is black or Arab or whatever? The media will spin it like the entire minority is evil. But if a black person is successful, their efforts are ignored. Can you name any black inventors? Because technology wouldn’t have been the same without them, yet you never learn about them in history books.

Harry notes that the cloak doesn’t stop him from being solid, which made me think about how being invisible and ignored in a negative way doesn’t make a person any less of a human, no matter how they may be treated as such. Just food for thought I guess.

Something Sacred Text host, Vanessa, said really struck me. She talked about how she was literally side stepped by someone so they could tap her black friend on the shoulder and compliment her outfit. And Vanessa, connecting it with invisibility and visibility, commented how the person probably (unintentionally) gave the compliment because her friend looked nice, for being black. And... I’ve never thought about that stuff quite in this way. I just assumed (white) people just tried to go out of their way to be nice to a black person, but to be honest I never gave much thought about it or its meaning in the first place. I get compliments from complete strangers everywhere for articles of clothing to my hair. Like just yesterday this white man walked up to me at a restaurant to say he loved my hair, which was in an afro. I’ve always thought it was weird to compliment random strangers like that, not in the way that you’re standing in line or something and compliment a girl’s purse who’s right in front of you, but literally walking up to someone who’s just minding their own business to do it. And cause this happened after listening to the podcast, I kept thinking is he trying to be encouraging to people with natural hair? does he really think his opinion is going to boost my self esteem like that? (normally I’d just brush it off and think that person’s weird) I know that wasn’t his intentions, but this is what those actions imply when it comes from a white person who’s a stranger.

Dumbledore says something that really holds true about privilege: “Strange how nearsighted being invisible can make you.” When you have it, you aren’t always aware of what your privilege gives you or what others without it experience. Like for me, I admittedly don’t think about ADA regulations all the time because I have an abled body, so it’s not something that I personally have to worry about unless I get an injury. But someone in a wheelchair, someone with a cane, someone with an invisible disability has to think about these things, because that’s their life. They need an accessible doorway for example just to get in a building. As a female, I can’t go out alone at night or even the bathroom at a bar without worrying I might be assaulted, but this isn’t something that men have to think about. So next time you’re defensive about something that someone of a minority group says about your privilege, think about this quote. Think about how your privilege makes you nearsighted. And then fucking listen.

I kinda wonder if Hermione wasn’t in Harry’s friend group, if he and Ron would be as motivated to find out who Nicolas Flamel was. Obviously the constant searching in the library was her idea lol, because that’s her thing. When she doesn’t know something, she consults books AKA goes to the library. Though I think because Harry knew he read the name somewhere, he would have been searching in books as his curiosity had hit an all time high, but it would’ve probably been limited to his school books. Ron probably would’ve only joined occasionally to help Harry out, or done the same and look through his own books. I find it funny that the trio only looked through books about modern or recently famous wizards, which makes sense because you don’t exactly expect someone to live over 600 years lol.

Christmas morning of Harry’s first year always gives me so much joy to read (and watch). He gets so excited that he has presents!! Even the 50 pence that the Dursley’s sent he responds with that’s friendly lmao. I will also never get over the fact that Mrs. Weasley, after learning from Ron that Harry didn’t expect to get presents, made him a goddamn sweater and some fudge 😭 I also love how the Weasleys basically adopt Harry, and it’s not just Mrs. Weasley, it’s Fred and George too. Fred pulls wizard crackers with Harry during Christmas dinner.... they played in the snow until they were cold and wet.... not to mention the twins look after him in Quidditch.

The contrast between Christmas morning and Christmas evening is so interesting to me. Harry wakes up to presents from many people, eats all he wants for dinner, spends the day having fun with the Weasleys, and then after an adventure with his invisibility cloak, finds the Mirror of Erised. And this scene is so heartbreaking. I can just feel the empty silence as Harry longingly looks at his family, I can feel his ache for the people he never got to know. The hosts brought up how white/western culture is very individualistic, but at the expense of feeling disconnect with one’s own heritage. I also want to add how the same disconnect happens with a diaspora. This topic is a little interesting when considering that there’s a widespread headcanon that Harry is half Indian or just poc, so the feeling of disconnect might be even more powerful.

For what Ron sees, I’ve said previously that Ron’s insecurity is being the odd one out in his family, the one who doesn’t have a special thing because all his older brothers have already done it. So in the Mirror, he sees himself being the best of all of them combined. And he’s alone. He wants to stand out. So far I’ve seen a lot of signs that Ron takes his family for granted, which I get since he’s 11 and one of the youngest in a large and loving family: he’s embarrassed about their class status, he pushes away his mother when she tries to clean dirt off his face, he tells Harry he can see family any old time. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing since Ron’s still fairly young though (he also didn’t resist being told to wear his Weasley sweater like Percy), but again and again we’ll see moments like this where it’s apparent that Ron and Harry’s desires are the complete opposite of each other. Ron is also less obsessive than Harry, which is why I think he had a bad feeling about the mirror  while Harry didn’t despite the two fighting over it while in the empty classroom. And he gets so worried about Harry! He tries to get him to eat, or play games, or even visit Hagrid, anything to get Harry out of his depressive state.

I wonder why the Mirror was moved to the empty classroom for anyone to stumble upon though. Maybe Dumbledore needed space to tamper with it? And the best time would be the holidays when most of the students were away? Why not do it in the Room of Requirement where is was probably kept before this? And was Dumbledore invisible every night while modifying the mirror? Or just to keep an eye on it? I can’t stop thinking about his comment on not needing a cloak to be invisible.

As a white person in the Percy Jackson and Harry Potter fandoms with a reasonably large following, I’d like to take it upon myself to pick up the sometimes rather vocal white trash in these fandoms.

To the other white people: I understand “dedication to canon,” but if you’re arguing with a marginalized group of people against them even headcanoning a fictional character as their race, sexuality, religion, gender, etc. then you need to check your prejudice and your privilege. People of minority and marginalized groups rarely get representation, and when we do, it’s often trope-filled, stereotypical, presented as “tragic,” or the butt of a joke (and, as someone who’s bi, straight people please recognize that the total number of bisexual female characters on TV since 1983, over the course of 33 years, represents 0.5% of heterosexual characters in one year, and only 10% of those characters had what qualifies as a “happy ending,” so when I say some marginalized groups rarely get representation, I mean it, and you have no idea how many shows I’ve watched just because they’ve got representation--I’m starved of it, and headcanons/OCs are my life-line).

One whole point of fiction is seeing yourselves in characters and situations, seeing your feelings and experiences reflected back at you. POC have enough problems with canon representation to be completely rejected from seeing themselves in non-canon too. Let. them. headcanon. You’ve already got canon. Let them at least have their section of fanon.

To the POC who follow me: I want you to know that I want this to be a safe space. You can rant about your favorite headcanons to me all you want, my anon is free for you to use any time. Obviously I’m white, so I may sometimes be ignorant of things, but I’m going to try to listen, research, and allow you to see yourself in these characters regardless of whether it’s confirmed in canon. If anyone in this space attempts to fight against your poc headcanons (esp if it’s just because “it doesn’t work in canon!!!” or “that character is white!!!”), they’re not welcome on my blog.

This applies to other marginalized minorities as well--autistic headcanons, LGBTQIA+ headcanons, religious minority headcanons (muslim, jewish, etc.), headcanons of disabilities or mental illness, etc. etc. etc. use my inbox any time you want, you deserve representation too.

I’ve experienced having my own self-projecting headcanons rejected far too many times, and I want you guys to know this is a space where I won’t criticize or mock these headcanons, whether or not I share them. You like to see Percy Jackson as your own race, even though a large part of the fandom sees him as white? That’s valid as heck and if anyone tries to argue they’ll be subjected to my fury.
