People are fighting for equal rights for all genders now but we Odisha people were celebrating Women. If you consider Padman as ground breaking then what will you consider people who are celebrating Mensuration Days of mother earth from generations. When everywhere else Period is a taboo, in Odisha it is a festival. Raja, the festival of Mother Earth's mensuration. For three days Women are celebrated. Varieties of food, swings plus the extra pampering. Hopefully everyone accepts this as part of life instead of thinking it as taboo. One of the food unique to Raja festival is Poda Pitha. A equal mix of Udad Dal & Rice, soaked and grind it to a smooth paste. Sugar, Dry Fruits, Coconut and 2tbsp of clarified butter is added to the paste. Then traditionally baked in a Earthen Hearth/Fire Place(ଚୁଲି). One of the best cake I have ever tasted. #podapitha #cake #raja #rajafestival #odisha #odiafestival #odiafoodies #odishacuisine #odishagram #traditionalfood #foodlove #foodblogging #foodblogger #indianfoodbloggers #dessert #odishafoodbloggers #festival #foodphotography #foodphotooftheday #foodonplate #oneplusphotography #unfiltered #fooddiaries #kitchensofinstagram #kitchendiaries #bangalorediaries (at My Kitchen) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBao866lh2H/?igshid=1j70q15gf0pho

Burnt cake Pod pitha
Burnt cake Pod pitha or podapitha is a traditional Oriya cake. It is made from rice lime and sugar / sugarcane cakes in a large pan. It is made in every Oriya house during the Raj and various festivals. It is also offered to Thakur during the printing of Jagannath. Manufacturing method-- The water is boiled and the rice is slowly mixed with lime and honey to form a large animal. In it, cashews, raisins and ghee are rolled up and thrown into a large banana leaf. It is again covered with leaves and covered with burning charcoal. The pan is kept in a low-heat oven for half an hour to an hour. The charcoal and leaves are then washed, cut and eaten.
Burning cake on Bahuda trip-- On the day of Bahuda, the Thakurs will ride in chariots to the temple. The chariots rolled after the chariots of Sribalbhadra, the goddess Subhadra and the chariots of Srilagnath were burnt. For this ritual, a cake is made at the house of the aunt's mother. Flour, ghee, sugar, cheddar, clove, Gujarati are added and four pod pies are prepared for the three Thakurs. At first, all these products are combined and the khali is made. The water is then taken in a large bowl and placed in the oven. When the water boils, the bowl is grilled and the leaves are placed on it. A plate is placed on top of the blanket and another blanket is placed. The cake is made with bumps. It is then removed. After cooling, cut it into pieces and strain it into guaghi. Later it is placed in a clay pot and enjoyed.

The Raja Parba of Odisha is one of most popular festivals of the state. Dedicated to Bhuma Devi, the consort of Lord Vishnu, Raja Parba celebrates womanhood. The first day of the festival is called Pahili Raja, the second is Mithuna Sankranti and the third Bhu Daha/Basi Raja. And the fourth day is called Vasumati Snana. The preparation begins one day before Pahili Raja, and it is called Sajabaja. Primarily, it is a time for the unmarried girls to prepare for their matrimony. They follow various customs related to the festival by consuming nutritious food like Podapitha, not walking barefoot, taking a bath on the first day, and merrily swinging on ropes attached to a tree. Each day of the festival has its own name and significance — the first day is called Pahili Rajo, the second day is Mithuna Sankranti, which signifies the beginning of the solar month of Mithuna i.e., the rainy season; the third day is Bhu Daaha or Basi Raja and the fourth day is called Vasumati Snana. Women are expected to follow the ‘rules of menstruation’ during these three days. They are expected to wake up at dawn and take a bath on the first day, after which bathing is not permitted till the end of the festival. In some places women also follow customs like eating uncooked food. They are also encouraged to buy new clothes, play games and are served special delicacies. They are kept away from all household chores. A special aesthetic attraction of the festival are the makeshift, decorated swings that are installed in trees. There are different types to the swings as well like Ram Doli’, ‘Charki Doli’, ‘Pata Doli’, ‘Dandi Doli’ etc. The Raja festival is celebrated all over Odisha as people’s festival. Happy Raja Festival 2021.💐❤️🙏🏻 (at Bhubaneswar, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQFghrtLPgembL6WMKLnCp3ghaXOvoMmyf2-gE0/?utm_medium=tumblr
